Enjoying a drink can be relaxing and fun. But doing it "incorrectly" may disrupt your hormones, sabotage your sleep, drain your energy, and contribute to weight gain. So, today I'll share simple, healthy tips on how to make the most of your drink - if you decide to drink alcohol. If not, props to you! Booze-free is a great way to go; even healthier in many ways.

 

Some people are floored when they see me enjoy an "adult" beverage. Like, "Wait, wait, wait... I thought you were Miss Perfect?!". This always makes me laugh a bit. Just because I am an Integrative Health Practitioner doesn't mean I'm "perfect" or that any of us needs to be. I think it is possible to have a healthy relationship with alcohol and enjoy it sparingly as part of what may bring you pleasure.

 

But as get further into my 40s - I am almost 43 years old now - I see many of my peers indulging to a point that it is disrupting their hormones, impeding deep sleep, contributing to anxiety and depression, and sabotaging their weight goals. This compels me to share a holistic view of how it could look, ideally, to enjoy alcohol, here and there.

Good health does not have to be black and white, as in: you are a success if you never pop and pill; and failure if you do. I see many patients and practitioners alike get caught in this divisive way of thinking.

In fact, I tell all my clients to hide or donate their scales. Seriously. What the scale says has ZERO bearing on who you are or how you FEEL in your body. I Yo-yo dieted for years, trying everything: Slimfast, Richard Simmons' Deal-a-Meal, veggie, vegan, Atkins, Paleo, Keto, etc... 

 

But nothing really clicked until I found Ayurveda and got more in-tune with nature, learned my dosha and how my digestion worked it all balanced out naturally, automatically. My body reached and maintains its ideal weight easily. 

 

Now, I'm going to share with you how I made it easy for myself and how I help my Beautifully Balanced clients do the same… We’ll talk about excess weight, from an Ayurvedic and holistic standpoint. It is also a HUGE indicator of how well your digestion is working. In Ayurveda gut, digestion, metabolism, appetite, etc.. are all connected. So we have to dig deeply to understand the causes, when it is not functioning properly. Some doshas are more likely to have a naturally slightly slower metabolism (Kaphas). BUT any dosha can gain weight, due to poor digestion, accumulated habits, etc…

Stop making this common mistake and instantaneously reduce digestive symptoms like:

According to the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic gut health smoothies are NOT the healthy superfoods they're touted to be! Not only are they COLD and raw, two gut-displeasing qualities that make them notoriously hard-to-digest. But most trendy superfood-smoothie recipes contain too many different ingredients. I call these "everything-but-the-kitchen-sink" smoothies" (ex: 4 different kinds of frozen fruit, nut butter, chia seeds, flax, spirulina, almond milk, vegan protein powder, and on and on and on).

Finally, they almost all smoothies commit the "cardinal sin" of Ayurvedic food combining: mixing fresh fruit with other foods high in fat and protein.
