Anti-Ellie (w/Amber Abundance) I Episode 274 22 Sep 202501:15:23

This week on Bad Queers, Kris teaches us “H&H” (high and horny) while Shana breaks down “homo fomo.” Then we’re joined by storyteller, filmmaker, and writer Amber J. Phillips known as Amber Abundance — aka your fave fat Black queer femme auntie from the Midwest.

We catch up with Amber on everything from launching her Substack Toxic Femininity (yes, it’s giving Black femme scripture) to building Ample World. We get into Black queer femmes choosing desire instead of waiting to be chosen, why “straight-passing” is a trash term, and what it takes to silence the fed in your head.

Plus: breakup dates are not closure, successful u-haulers are the exception not the rule, studs deserve a little more shade, and Amber has one very real Bad Queer Opinion about Ellie blocking our view of the tall WNBA girlies.

As always, we close with shoutouts — including Tracee Ellis Ross’ new travel show, the Youth Trans Emergency Project, and love to everyone at Black Star Film Fest.

Shoutouts:

Kris: Solo Traveling with Tracee Ellis Ross - Tracee’s new travel show on Roku Channel. She invites audiences to join her solo trips to Morocco, Mexico, and Spain. Just renewed for a second season, go check out season 1 on the roku channel Follow Tracee on IG: @traceeellisross

Shana: Youth Trans Emergency Project: They help families of trans youth through the maze of accessing healthcare after a clinic closure. They can find care providers, provide grants, and have a network of care. Check out their website: www.transyouthemergencyproject.org

Amber: Everyone who went to Black Star Film Fest. Friend Kia Lou who won a pitch competition around Black queer lesbians in standup comedy. Shoutout to Black Storytellers

Sapphicated | Episode 19108 Jan 202401:13:32

We're back from holiday break to discuss the wild start to the year. Shana shares a glowing review of The Color Purple. In the most predictable story of the year, sometimesy-Christian, Boosie, throws a tantrum over a lesbian scene in The Color Purple and gets packed up by TS Madison. Dave Chappelle continues to destroy his own legacy in his latest "comedy" special. Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper NYE hosting only makes us miss Don Lemon.  In politics, Iowa’s “Don’t Say Gay” Law has been blocked by a federal judge in another big LGBTQ+ rights win. USA Boxing introduces new strict guidelines for trans boxers.

In Bad Queer opinions, Shana swears off themed parties and Kris gives an apology to the DVD community.

This week Kris breaks down fictosexuality (yes, being attracted to fictional characters is a whole identity), while Shana takes us back to the 80s with the iconic lesbian gesture known as vulva hands - because we continue to try and find a signal to show we are queer.
