John published his first book and audiobook of the Hank the Cowdog character in 1983 and has been going strong ever since. J.D. talks with him about the series' origins, his work on a cattle ranch, the part that the oral storytelling tradition played in his approach to writing, how the Hank the Cowdog audio drama podcast came about, and much more. Tom Swift returns in Tom Swift and His Motorboat from the Colonial Radio Theatre. Family Time Audio Theatre released their first audio drama in October 2016, Jimmy and the Star Angel, a fun, endearing Christmas story that you're sure to enjoy. Although released several years ago, Focus on the Family Radio Theatre's adaptation of Ben-Hur is still one of our favorites and one of the best audio dramas ever produced. Since this story is at the forefront of people's minds right now we figured it was the perfect time to discuss it. We also address some feedback from Michael D., Rachel, Sarah Grace and Elisabeth H. We review The Colonial Radio Theatre's production called The Plimoth Adventure: Voyage of Mayflower in today's episode. We're joined by composer Jared DePasquale in this episode. Jared has worked in the field of commercial music for over 25 years in various capacities and has contributed music to hundreds of different projects including several audio drama projects for Focus on the Family. Most notable are the scores for Radio Theatre’s The Hiding Place, The Secret Garden and Les Miserables just to name a few. In this conversation with Jared, we talk about composing for audio drama, writing character themes, which instruments he plays, and much more. He also shares why he lost 20 pounds during the composing of the score for Les Mis, how emotionally draining working on The Hiding Place was, and why a question about making coffee forever changed the way he looked at his team.
