Michaela Pavlatova was born in Czech Republic, graduated from the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in Prague. As an animation film director, her films have received numerous awards at international film festivals. For a few years from 1998, Pavlatova has divided her time between Prague and San Francisco, where she worked as the art director for Wildbrain inc.
After 2002 she directed the live action film "Faithless Games". In 2006 she finished, together with her partner Vratislav Hlavaty, the animated film adaptation of Camille Saint Saens' "The Carnival of Animals". Two years later, she directed another live action feature film "Children of Night".
Her short animation film "Tram" had a premiere at Cannes Film Festival and won the Cristal for a short film at Annecy Festival.
Besides her work as a director, she made animations for theatre performances and is the supervisor of the Animation department at FAMU.
"My Sunny Maad" is her first animated feature film. She adapted Petra Prochazkova's book "Freshta" to create a moving and subtle film about a Czec woman, Herra, who left her country to follow her futur-husband Nazir in Afghanistan.

The Dutch director Michael Dudok De Wit accepted our invitation to discuss with Pavlatova about "My Sunny Maad", and to share their filmmakers' points of views. Referring to his own feature film "The Red turtle" they compare their experience, issues and excitements as directors.

The French Association for Animated Cinema has launched in 2021 a new label, in partnership with L’Agence du court métrage, Ciclic (Centre Val de Loire), les Cinémas Indépendants de Nouvelle Aquitaine (CINA), Les Cinémas Indépendants parisiens(Ile-de-France), De la suite dans les images (Hauts-de-France), Écrans VO (Val d’Oise), Enfances au cinéma (Paris), L’Équipée (Valence), le Forum des Images (Paris). It highlights quality animated feature films, airing in French cinemas and targeting adult audience. "My Sunny Maad" is the third film that got the label. This episode offers an exclusive way to listen to the two awarded directors' insights on filmmaking, as well as some of "My Sunny Maad"'s behind-the-scenes stories.

Spela Cadez is a Slovenian independent director who created the production company Finta film. Her eclectic films depict fragile characters in an unbalanced world. She shows the trueness of life through deep stories, always coloured with a touch of humour. Her last film "Steakhouse" was selected in international competition at Clermont international animation film festival.

Martin Smatana is a stop-motion filmmaker based in Czech Republic. He likes working manually, using different materials and telling stories for children. He studied Animation in Bratislava and then at FAMU in Prague. His graduation film "The Kite" was premiered at Berlinale 2019, and won over 60 international awards.

Phuong Mai Nguyen étudie l'animation aux Gobelins, d'où elle sort diplômée en 2009 puis la réalisation à La Poudrière. Son premier court métrage "Chez Moi" est présélectionné pour les Césars et shortlisté pour les Oscars en 2016. Elle travaille ensuite comme autrice graphique sur le court-métrage "Celui qui a deux âmes" (de Fabrice Luang-Vija), qui reçoit la récompense du Meilleur Court-Métrage aux César 2017.
Aux côtés de Charlotte Cambon, intervenue dans le podcast en octobre de l'année dernière, Mai réalise la série "Culottées". Produit par Silex Films, cette adaptation des bandes-dessinées de Pénélope Bagieu a été un véritable défi visuel et de mise en scène pour elles.
Toujours avec Silex films, elle développe actuellement le projet de long-métrage In Waves, adapté du roman graphique d’Aj Dungo.
Nous avons passé plusieurs moments ensemble au printemps dernier : d'abord pour le Festival national du film d'animation, où je l'avais invitée en tant que membre du jury, puis pour la Bourse Art Brutal, où nous avons pu échanger sur des projets prometteurs.

Réka Bucsi is a Hungarian illustrator and filmmaker. After graduating from MOME in Budapest, her film "Symphony no. 42" received worldwide acclaim, and was shortlisted for numerous awards, including for an Oscar.
In 2017, after a production made in record time in Viborg (Denmark), she revealed the experimental masterpiece "Solar Walk". Originally conceived for a 47-minute live concert by the Aarhus jazz orchestra, it was later adapted into a 20-minute film that won, among other prizes, the Audi Short Film Award at the Berlinale. It takes us on a journey through time and space alongside dreamlike characters.
Her surreal style often draws upon nature and animals to deliver complex messages through distinct and delightful imagery.

Davy Durand est un illustrateur, animateur et réalisateur français. Diplômé de l'école Pivaut en 2007, il équilibre depuis son activité professionnelle entre travail en studio, réalisation de films d'animation plus personnels et création d'histoires dans des livres illustrés.
Il commence son parcours comme stagiaire à Folimage pour "Mia et le Migou". Il travaille ensuite en tant qu'animateur, storyboardeur, designer, pour plusieurs longs métrages qui ont marqué l'animation française tels que "Ernest et Célestine", "Avril et le monde truqué" et "Le Grand méchant renard". Il créé en 2017 l'identité graphique de l'initiative européenne des Émile Awards. Plus récemment, il a réalisé pour Folivari la série "Chien pourri", dont un programme spécial est sorti en salles de cinéma.

Birute Sodeikaite is a stop-motion film director, animator and puppet maker from Lithuania. She started working with her father, making scenographies and puppets for live performances, plays and puppet theatres. In 2010, she moved to the UK to study Animation Production in Bournemouth and later to Volda University in Norway, where she found in love with stop-motion animation. Her first short film "Last stop is the moon" has been selected in a lot of festivals.

Guillaume Lorin est un réalisateur français. Il est né et grandit en Guadeloupe. Il part à Paris pour étudier l’animation puis au Luxembourg où il travaillera pour divers studios. L'envie de réaliser ses propres films le mènera plus tard à l’école de la Poudrière. S'en suivent plusieurs expériences chez Folimage à Valence et Cartoon Saloon, à Kilkenny en Irlande, à différents postes, avant de passer à la réalisation de son premier film, "Vanille". Ce conte moderne fortement inspiré du folklore de son île natale nous plonge avec malice dans ces paysages insulaires et gagnera le Cristal du meilleur Unitaire TV au festival d'Annecy 2021.

Jérémie Cousin est réalisateur français de films d'animation. Il étudie le design graphique en Bretagne et le Motion Design à Paris. En 2019, il termine sa formation à l'école de la Poudrière durant laquelle il réalise le film « LELE & LALA » ainsi que son film de fin d'étude « À L’Ouest » sélectionné dans de nombreux festivals. En 2020, il est sélectionné pour la collection diffusée sur France Télévisions "En sortant de l'école" et réalise le film « Conquistador » basé sur un poème de Paul Verlaine. En parallèle du développement de ses projets personnels, il travaille comme animateur sur différentes productions, et comme intervenant pour sensibiliser les enfants à l’animation par le biais de la stop-motion aux côtés de Marta Gennari.

Alexandra Ramires alias Xá is a portuguese director. She discovered animation in 2009 in the production company Sardinha em Lata. In 2010, she graduated in painting at the Fine Arts Academy in Lisbon. Then, she started working in the animation studio of the production company Bando à Parte in Porto. Her first film "Água Mole", co-directed with Laura Gonçalves, traveled through festivals such as Cannes and Toronto. She founded the BAP - Animation Studio Cooperative where she currently develops collective and individual work, including her last stunning short "Elo" better known as "Ties".

Réalisatrice et illustratrice suisse, Marjolaine Perreten a étudié le design et le multimédia à l'ERACOM de Lausanne, puis a appris l'animation à travers des stages. Elle travaille a plusieurs postes pour Nadasdy Film en Suisse, L'Enclume en Belgique, et Vivement Lundi! En France, puis intègre La Poudrière en 2013 pour soutenir ses envies de réalisation. Elle a depuis fait plusieurs films, dont le très beau "Dernier jour d'Automne", et a récemment co-réalisé la série didactique DansLaToile diffusé sur France 3.
En parallèle, c'est en 2017, qu'elle a fondé le Festival du film d’animation de Savigny, dans le canton de Vaud.
