Beloved Ones, hello + blessed solstice. I am writing to you after a stunning Solstice morning, preparing my ritual for Rauhnächt and spending time in visioning space with the Ancestors. I feel their proximity closer than ever before, the long night ahead full of memory + celebration.

Yesterday, on the Anniversary of my paternal grandmother’s death, we had a traditional Irish Funeral to lay my maternal grandmother’s body to rest. Usually I associate this time of year with Capricorn’s grandfatherly presence, but somehow, I feel my grandmothers are making their mark on this threshold as an opening of sorts. I cannot deny their presence amidst the proximity of the Ancestral Realm, and the ways they have carved their name into the tree of Life + Death as One.

My experience of Winter Solstice is changing. As mother night spreads her wingspan to its fullest extent, the embrace of darkness seems like a homecoming. I feel quite moved by this moment, as if the doors between the worlds have been cast wide open, and the presence of so many beloveds in spirit are able to come pouring in. What a gift. Working with the Ancestors truly changes the experience of Death in such deep, profound, and mysterious ways. May you feel that eternal presence as a soul friend.

This week, the Spirit of Capricorn is certainly here to meet us at the entrance of the Solstice. Mars makes determined movements through Capricorn, as the Sun + Moon cross that threshold together with Venus soon to follow. It is certtainly a vibe shift, but perhaps a welcome one at that. I always find Capricorn’s steadfast spirit to be so refreshing, a careful guide for our footsteps as we enter Winter’s visioning cave.

If you have been here for previous years of the Altar of Stars Capricorn Szn readings, you’ve likely heard me use my favorite phrase that my ancestors shared with me many cycles ago; ‘what does it take to build a world?’ — this is what Capricorn wants us to sit with. And yet, counter to what our hyper-materialist Capitalist society might say, the tangible action in response to this question is only half (if not less than) the true work of worldbuilding.

As the bringer of Winter, Capricorn initiates us into Deep Time; legacies that extend across generations + lifetimes. To truly build a world, we must be so deeply in touch with this expansive vision, that we can hear the guidance of our Ancestors speaking through the fire. The work of Capricorn, in my opinion, is True Listening. It is an attunement to the cycles of creation that requires our receptivity; only from there can our actions be informed, resolved + determinant. To lean back into the support of the Elder Powers that truly know how to build a world, we must learn how to really listen.

And so, I feel this particular end-of-year threshold is equal parts receptivity + intentional, decisive action. The listening comes first ~ the choices follow.

Friends! Wow, here we are, at the threshold of the Solstice. The still point of the year. I feel the warmth of some ancient kind of hopefuless surrounding my hearth. Hoping that you feel the same burgeoning within you.

I love, LOVE that we have a New Moon in Sagittarius ushering across this threshold. It feels so full of possibility, and the reminder to dare to DREAM.

I have been confronted by how much the stress + overwhelm of this past year has cut me off from possibility. In such a contracted state of scarcity, it is hard to imagine much beyond meeting basic needs. And, without the possibility of dreaming, we don’t allow ourselves to envision all that could be.

This is the vision of Sagittarius. Arrows pointed skyward, we are invited to remember the technology of our imagination as essential for the world we wish to live into. This New Moon is ALL ABOUT it. Dreaming as an essential worldbuilding skill.

I’m going to share a ritual this week that a friend reminded me of via Danica Boyce. I have practiced it within its more traditional Ancestral roots of Alpine + Germanic origin, the ritual of Rauhnächte, or 13 nights of wishes. My loves, I can’t believe we are already approaching the threshold of Scorpio season this week. We have another New Moon occuring at the crossroads, the day before the Sun enters a new sign territory. This happened in September with the Virgo New Moon / partial eclipse occuring the day before the Equinox!

This time, Sun + Moon meet at 28* of Libra, the day before Scorpio season begins. However the tone has changed, the story unfurls a new layer…

Persephone has spent the past month learning the terrain of the Underworld, landing after a process of descent. Now, somewhat familiar with the territory, she is presented with a choice. Hades offers her a pomegranate to satisfy her hunger, an extension of kindness in a moment of isolation. If Persephone accepts, knowingly becomes Queen of the Great Below.

In doing so, she must embrace her dual nature. She must turn towards herself fully, holding her grief as equally vital to her joy. For she knows, they belong to each other.

This, I feel, is the energy of the New Moon in Libra. On Tuesday Oct 21, at 8:25am EST, the luminaries conjoin in the very last degrees of Libra, in the 3rd decan. This territory corresponds to the 4 of Swords in the tarot. An image of rest, yes, but also one of intentional respite.

“Let yourself get still. Turn to face yourself fully.”

This is the message I’ve been hearing from my guides. Let the dust settle, so you may see yourself truly and honestly. Let the mind soften, so that you can drop into the waters of the heart. There is Truth, waiting for you, there. <3

The Third Decan of Libra reminds us that rest + stillness are VITAL parts of the decision making process. That if we only busy ourselves with constant action and doership, we do not actually allow for the truth of our Heart to be heard, and thus to guide us true. There are dreams, visions, and insights waiting for us in that inner sanctuary, but we must get still enough to listen.

It is challenging right now, to spend time in the heart. Overwhelming, to say the least. And, if we are only ever coasting on the surface, we have split ourselves into half-truth. We are fragmented, disembodied, cut off from the reality of BEING. The origin of truth lives in the heart. We must turn to face ourselves fully to see it. Persephone must accept the pomegranate to know herself as whole. Maiden of Light, Mother of Night.

Hold fast, my friends. The dark times were made for stories, song, and kinship.

This week brings a heavy dose of slowness, along with a reality check that we can't always move at the pace we're accustomed to. Or at least, that it's not always helpful to.

Mercury stations retrograde on Monday April 1st at 27*, and will subsequently move backwards thru the entire constellation of Aries over the next 3 weeks. We are collectively hitting the rewind button on our thinking process, returning to the place we began with a (hopefully) curious heart.

With ALL of the other Aries energy already in the mix (Chiron, North Node, Sun and soon to be Moon on the eclipse), it's safe to say Mercury is bringing a real reality check to the ways we've been thinking about our life, the visions or plans that have been emerging - in an efforts to slow us down and reframe HOW we're going about those things. It's likely going to feel a bit frustrating or friction-ey, if we don't give way to the process. Temper urgency with presence + deepening curiosity.

It's not about WHAT you're doing, but HOW you're doing it. Take this time to get curious with your usual thought + movement patterns, as these next few weeks invite us to reframe them. What if we did it a different way? What if we took another path towards the same place, how would it change the outcome? The medicine is to SLOW DOWN. There's nothing to DO right now. Self-observation and repatterning our process is key.

Wow, what a humble reminder of the wisdom of the Eclipses.

The karmic portal of reality opens, revealing all of its timeless wisdom. Sense impressions from past experience, unprocessed memories, unconsious patterns — all rising to the surface to be seen, known & understood.

As I always say, to see is to free it. As we turn the light of awareness into the shadow, those patterns and hidden wisdom beneath the surface begins to be set free.

Illumination begets liberation — yet awareness alone is not enough. We must be willing to not only look, but truly see ourselves within the shadow; the way we have shaped ourselves around it, how it has formed a facet of our Self. We must be willing to acknowledge with deep compassion for our humanness, for our ability to survive life’s more challenging circumstances that have created certain coping mechanisms or patterns in us. Especially relationally, because this first eclipse is in Libra.

Relational trauma gets healed through relationship. So, if your relational space feels super sticky right now, its probably because some BIG karmic sludge is beginning to move. Give yourself and others the grace to take space, and check back in later in April. This is a time for the deep internal spelunking that allows for our more vulnerable parts to reveal themselves to us, so that we may understand and offer them healing compassion to grow from.

It can be a LOT to not only have all of our deep inner-relational sh*t come up to the surface, but THEN to also be witnessed by others. It doesn’t always serve the process to be all up in it with one another — know when to take space and give your own process some breathing room.

In the meantime, be gentle with yourselves and each other. Mercury is in the shadow of its upcoming retrograde in Aries, beginning April 1st — just in time for the second eclipse in Aries, a week later on the 8th. It’s a murky time.

Don’t try to figure it out right now. Give yourself permission to set it down, rest, and be present with yourself. Put your plans on hold. Take a moment of pause from the urgent pace of life. Offer your inner world the presence it deserves — and make space to process some of what emerges. Lean on whatever practices are most supportive for you. And be kind to one another. <3

Wheel of Samsara — life is anything but normal.

This week, we enter the shadow of eclipse season. We are in the vestibule; the space between cycles, the liminal territory where anything is possible.

When we let our minds get out of the way, we can see the true nature of this moment, and all that it holds for our soul-level process in this life. There are massive karmic implications to eclipse cycles, as they allow us to work out all of the karmic sludge we've been carrying for lifetimes, or for generations.

Give yourself permission to not have it all figured out right now. Check back in around mid-April, after the eclipses have worked their alchemical magick on you. And most importantly, make space to truly process & purge whatever arises in this time. It is bigger and older than just this moment.

THE MOON // THOTH TAROT DECK — PISCES

This week brings a time of transition, as we integrate the Pisces New Moon and begin to prepare for Eclipse Season! In this space, there is a sense of timelessness, a liminal nature that only Piscean wisdom can truly help us understand.

It is the porousness of the veil between form & formlessness, the subtle sensitivity to our more-than-human reality. If we attune ourselves to it and listen intently, we can feel all of the many ways that unseen forces are swimming through the landscape of our shared reality.

In that, there is a need to process some of the more dense energies that are moving through the field -- so that they aren't only being processed through your own individual mind & body.

Take time this week for Prayer in whatever form suits you. Hold ritual space, make offerings, connect with your more-than-human allies. This can resource us and prepare for the karmic process that the upcoming eclipses are ushering forth.

PISCES // Vesica Piscis — the Womb of the Cosmos. The Center of the Whole — The Heart of the Universe. <3

Two cycles uniting as one; a simultaneous ending and beginning. A doorway, a threshold, an opening.

The New Moon occurs on March 10th at 6am EST. Wake with the dawn and contemplate this transcendent sensibility, connecting you to the pulse of creation.

Notice your corner of this field in this shared landscape of reality.

As you plant your seeds of New Moon intention, pay special attention to the conditions of the soil; the environment you’re planting them in.

See how your corner of the field affects the entire landscape of reality, all connected and rippling outwards. We tend our own corner well, so that the whole can be just as nourished & supported. We do not exist in a vacuum; our lives ripple out into the entire quilt of belonging. Our choices and actions influence the entire web of creation.

This is the nature of Karma (action in sanskrit). We are all bound up in one another’s experience of reality; it is a shared one, and our own actions & choices influence it as much as anyone else.

Walk with careful awareness of the nature of this shared quilt, as you plant your New Moon intentions. May your life be a prayer for the whole.

Pisces being the last sign of the Zodiac also offers potent medicine for Karmic endings & closure, to give way to New Beginnings. Let your New Moon ritual allow for Release & Completion, to creates the conditions for a powerful new beginning.

Just as the Vesica Piscis reveals, at the intersection of Endings & Beginnings there is an OPENING. The Womb of the Universe, the Birthing Canal. Use it wisely, with a heart full of love - turned towards the shared Quilt of Humankind.
