| 292: Craig Cullinane – Using The Body Electric to Heal From Religious Programming | 30 Aug 2024 | 00:46:41 | |
Sex and religion. For many, especially gay men, and even more so for gay men who are religious leaders, the thought of erotic pleasure is a "No, no!" Really? Why is that and who made it that way?
Exploring the concept that we are all erotic and spiritual beings who desire pleasure, turns the tables on this kind of archaic thinking. You can be erotic, sexual, have desires, and seek pleasure while still holding sacred your relationship with your faith and God. Repeat Guest Craig Cullinane, coach and Body Electric facilitator, guides us to find the intersectionality of sex and faith in this provocative conversation.
In this episode:
About Craig Craig Cullinane (He, Him) is a Body Electric facilitator, life coach, and Sacred Intimate focusing on embodiment, pleasure, and the awakening of the Sacred. | 291: Max Austin – We can’t be wrong and other gay truths | 23 Aug 2024 | 00:33:49
Throughout history, all we have heard as gay men is that being gay is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Yet, we often ask ourselves, "How can we be wrong?"
Debut author Max Austin, shares his insights about his life in the '90s amongst the HIV/AIDS crisis and the shame, vile bullying he experienced as a nurse, which led him to constantly ask the question that is the title of his book, "How can we be wrong?
In this episode:
About Max Max Austin has many passions: his husband, his two children, his writing and his work as a nurse. Oh, and not to forget the family dog of course! Through his writing and lived experiences, Max wants to give a voice to silenced and marginalised LBGTQIA+ groups. He is honoured and humbled that his biofictional memoir ‘How Can We Be Wrong?’ has found a home with Spectrum Books; a dedicated LBGTQIA+ publisher. Max has been a keynote speaker at LBGTQIA+ inclusion conferences. For Max, kind inclusiveness in health care and indeed our broader society is as vital as breathing. When not working as a nurse or writing, he loves nothing more than spending time with his children and husband. Most weekends, they can be found covered in mud whilst being led through the park by their rather boisterous but friendly black Labrador! | 282: Wade Maggert – Breaking Free and Practicing Self-Love | 21 Jun 2024 | 00:45:08
Happy Pride. That's what today's guest said over the pounding beat of his DJing life for many years. The thrill, the fun, the drugs, the sex. It all made him feel desired and alive...so to speak, until it didn't. Then he woke to the truth that to be desired and loved, he had to do that to and for himself. Dr. Wade Maggert, brings his Buddhist sensibilities and practical awakened self to this candid conversation about his life, then and now, and shares how during this Pride Season, you can find yourself when you simply look within.
About Wade
Dr. Wade Maggert, esteemed mental health expert and advocate, harbors a past as vibrant as his current professional pursuits. Before his doctoral days, the world knew him as DJ Ra, spinning tracks in the most electrifying gay nightclubs across global capitals. His journey through the highs of fame was a prelude to personal transformation. Encountering the consequences of an intense lifestyle led him to therapy, revealing the scars of an anti-gay upbringing. Embracing self-love marked the beginning of his dedication to mental health, inspiring a profound shift from electrifying dance floors to empowering lives in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond.
With a Master of Social Work from UNLV and a groundbreaking PhD in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Dr. Maggert has pioneered research into the depths of the masculine psyche. As an educator and a seasoned practitioner, his mastery extends from academia to the frontlines of mental health advocacy. His specializations in advanced therapeutic techniques have revolutionized treatment paradigms. At the helm of three VA mental health programs and at the heart of his private practice, Dragonfly Psychotherapy, Dr. Maggert is a trailblazer for trauma and addiction recovery within the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond his professional prowess, he is a Zen Buddhist adept, weaving the tranquility of meditation into his therapeutic approach and sharing his wisdom at the Houston Zen Center. Dr. Maggert's life's work is not just his occupation, but his offering to the world.

| 193: Thruples and Polyamory – Kitty Chambliss | 07 Oct 2022 | 00:43:34 | |
Seems non-monogamy is more and more common as gay men try to find themselves in their relationships in a way that works for them as individuals and as a couple, or even a thruple. So how do you make it all work when Monogamy isn't the way. Polyamory expert Kitty Chambliss joins us today to give you great insights on how to thrive in your relationship when the typical just isn't going to cut it.
About Kitty
A born-and-raised Philly girl with nothing more than passion, a laptop and a dream, I’m proud to have created a socially conscious mission that touches thousands. I am passionate about helping people understand that they have a choice in relationships and their lives in general.
And then be proud of who we see in the mirror, increasing self-worth (reducing depression, shame and guilt). And if monogamy is not working for you, you can choose ethical non-monogamy or polyamory.
People cheat. LOTS of people cheat. And many more people get hurt by their partners’ infidelity. I am partly fascinated by why people cheat. Being a former cheater myself I at least know why I cheated. And I also know how bad and guilty it made me feel. I used to think there was something wrong with me. I had no idea there was another way to be or to act or to handle relationships back then. I’m irritated that I was never taught that there was another way. I also grew up in a Catholic school being told that sex was only for procreation, homosexuals were evil, and even THINKING about sex or (gasp) masturbating was a surefire way to go to hell. This is a horrible thing to teach our children, and I have spent my entire adult life undoing the damage of this teaching. I even suffered from a form of sexual dysfunction myself for years partly because I had f*cked up feelings and guilt built up around sex. Sex negativity is destructive. Let’s end it!

| 190: The New Masculine For Gay Men – Travis Stock | 16 Sep 2022 | 00:43:04 | |
What does it mean to be masculine? Who defines it? What does it matter? These are all the big questions we're asking on 40 Plus: Gay Man, Gay Talk Podcast today with fellow Life Coach Travis Stock. He brings his own unique insights into the world of masculinity into play to make you go, "Hmmm? What does masculinity really mean?"
About Travis
Travis helps you find what creates balance in your life by first seeking acceptance of what is. He helps you connect to your truth in the moment, so that it becomes clearer how to be in alignment with your personal, professional, and relationship goals. He doesn't claim to know all the answers, nor do he feel fit to give you advice for your life. But that is directly in line with his coaching philosophy: You actually have all the answers! Don't trust that? Good, he likes the challenge of connecting you to your own wisdom!
One of his favorite areas to explore is the balance between masculine and feminine energies in each of us, regardless of gender, and he believes in the importance of nurturing a relationship with both types of energy to create a sense of wholeness. Some other areas he is fascinated by include emotions, the LGBT community, transformation of trauma and shame, interpersonal relationships, the divine masculine, and living open-heartedly.

| 181: The Joy of Navigating An Ever Changing Career Ride – Michael Novin | 15 Jul 2022 | 00:48:29 | |
I'm going to be an actor. No wait, I'm going to be a Broadway star. Nope, I'm going to be a financial planner. Ay yes, I'm going to run a talent agency and be a coach. Sounds like this guy doesn't know what he's doing...but he does. Michael Novin has leaned into his life fully, brining each experience to life and building upon by constantly saying, "If you can, you must!" Today we explore the can and must of navigating the ever changing landscapes of shifting careers and being a gay man over 40!
About Michael
As someone who has changed careers multiple times, Michael has worked in several vastly different (and fascinating) industries. The unifying theme has been his desire to help, entertain, and guide people to live their best life and perform at their maximum potential. This passion led Michael to become a Certified Professional Coach through the NYU School of Professional Studies. He will also soon be certified by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
In addition to his coaching practice, he is the owner of the global talent agency Mark Edward Inc., representing, empowering, and motivating photographers, stylists, and makeup artists to achieve their highest goals (www.markedwardinc.com ). Prior to becoming an agent, he was a Certified Financial Advisor, Sales Manager, and Training Coordinator for Merrill Lynch. This was an audacious and revolutionary step from his career as a singer, dancer, and actor on Broadway (where among other skills, he learned to roller-skate his way to fame)! He graduated NYU with a BFA in Acting and a minor in Psychology.
Interests include attending the theatre and dance performances, working out, dining out, and spending time with friends and family. It has been a remarkable journey indeed!

| 280: Michael Pezzullo – How To Navigate The Partying Ways Of Gay Life | 07 Jun 2024 | 00:51:40 | |
There's a stereotype about gay men that all we want is sex, partying, and drugs. For some that might be true. For others we just enjoy the occasional dip into that space. But what happens when navigating the drinking, drug, partying way of being becomes blurred and we don't realize that we're on the verge of addiction? Joining me today to unpack this question is Michael Pezzullo, licensed Marriage and Family therapist, known as The Weho Therapist. We have a candid and supportive conversation about navigating sex, drugs, and alcohol during this pride season.
About Michael
Michael is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. He earned his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University and a Bachelor’s Degree in media and communication from New York University. He works in private practice in West Hollywood, CA.
In his practice, Michael works heavily with the LGBTQIA+ community--with a specific focus on gay men. He also has extensive experience treating substance use disorders. Michael has specialized experience treating those who struggle with “chem-sex”—the addictive process of using substances to heighten sexual arousal. He also created and facilitated an LGBTQ+ identity group for Impulse United, a global HIV advocacy nonprofit.
Michael works from an attachment perspective while treating couples. He is certified in several trauma therapy modalities including: trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment-focused EMDR and ketamine assisted psychotherapy.
Michael was born and raised in the heart of New York City: Hell’s Kitchen. He now lives in West Hollywood with his husband and their two dogs. Outside of work, Michael is heavily involved in the local LGBTQ+ recovery community and is an avid plant collector.

| 173: No more neckties…Just Be Gay – Dr. Loren A. Olsen, MD | 20 May 2022 | 00:58:03 | |
Many of us as gay men grew up always doing what was expected of us, trying to fit in, compartmentalizing our lives and never letting anyone see the side of us that unacceptable. We end up feeling isolated and alone, but we do what we do to be successful by every other external measure until the pain becomes to great.
In his new book, No More Neckties: A Memoir in Essays, Dr. Loren A. Olsen, MD, flings open the doors and reveals he wasn’t always a good boy. While not always noble and admirable, his stories show humanness to which everyone can relate:
In this book, Olson sends readers a message of hope and compassion, letting them know they are not alone in dealing with the hard stuff in their lives. Today he joins us to explore why it's time to ditch the neckties of living a joyless life. About Loren Dr. Loren A. Olson, MD, is the award-winning author of Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight and a distinguished life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. A physician for over 50 years, he served as a flight surgeon in the US Navy and continues to practice psychiatry. A well-regarded essayist and popular speaker on mental health and LGBTQ issues, he has been interviewed on regional and national television, national and international radio, and in multiple print and online publications. Dr. Olson is the father of two daughters and a proud grandfather. A native of Wakefield, Nebraska, and a graduate of the University of Nebraska Medical School, he lives in Des Moines, Iowa, with Doug Mortimer, his husband and life partner of 35 years. His latest book is No More Neckties: A Memoir in Essays. Connect With Mike Website Facebook Instagram Twitter Hey Guys, Check This Out! Are you a guy who keeps struggling to do that thing? | 165: Dissecting The Truth Of Gay Men: Coach to Coach – Brian Madigan | 25 Mar 2022 | 00:47:45
What motivates gay men? Do all gay men only want sex? What if an open relationship can work? Can I be spiritual or religious as a gay man? Questions, questions, questions. It seems we as gay men are constantly questioning ourselves. To help me answer some of these questions is Brian Madigan of Gay Guru Coach. Join us as we laugh, go deep, and try to dissect the truth of what so many gay men struggle with so they can live their life on their terms.
About Brian
Brian Madigan has been a full-time life coach, and mentor, since 2007. He’s helped clients: find new careers or enrich the ones they’re in; discover new love or renew a fading relationship; and deal with the stresses of day to day living But, most of all, he’s helped them sink deep into themselves and discover how to express their truth in the world.
Now, he’s applying all of that to his true passion, helping queer men. His goal is to help his clients discover what their best life looks like and move into it. He has spent his life exploring spirituality, personal development, stress management, and anything else that helps make life easier and better for people. Eventually, he started sharing what he’d learned with other people: holding seminars, teaching mediation, doing energy healing, and transforming people’s lives with his coaching.
Now he has focused his life and business on helping queer men get to their core and express it out in the world. He believes that together they can create a world where it’s safe for his clients to be themselves and life becomes a powerful ongoing journey into wholeness.

| 163: The Art of Truly Loving Yourself As A Gay Man – Jerome Braggs | 11 Mar 2022 | 00:49:55 | |
As RuPaul sez, "If you can't love yourself, how the hell you going to love someone else?" But what many of us as gay men don't realize is when we love ourselves, all is well, all is coming, all is delicious. Our guest today, Jerome Braggs, guides, teaches, and illuminates ways for us as gay men to step into the powerful space of loving ourselves fully.
About Jerome
In 2004, Jerome checked into the hospital with what he thought was the flu, but instead got diagnosed with anemia, pancreatitis, giardia, pneumonia, kidney failure and AIDS. Then, doctors gave him seven days to live. Using what he knew about the Law of Attraction, he miraculously healed himself after three months, and thought he knew the answer to healing, manifestation, and wellness, until he found himself back in that same hospital, with the exact same diagnosis, a year and half later. But this time, doctors gave him 48 hours to live.
On his deathbed, he had a Near Death Experience (NDE), where he was told by Source that the true key to healing and wellbeing was to: “wholly love yourself.”
After that NDE, he began a mystical journey with self-love where he learned to heal himself, and miraculously transform his entire life into something more well and delicious than he could have ever imagined. Since then, he has heeded the call to share his miraculous story, and this sacred + transformative lesson: “When we love ourselves, all is well, all is coming, and all is delicious. But not a moment before.”

| 162: Give yourself a little RESPECT – Rick Clemons | 04 Mar 2022 | 00:09:31 | |
As the queen of soul sez: R-E-S-P-E-C-T. It is time to respect yourself and if you don't then that is on you, and only you. Because self-respect is where confidence grows. And as another queen sez (RuPaul) - If you can't respect yourself, how the hell you going to respect someone else. Ok I took some liberties with that one, but you know RuPaul would agree with those sentiments too. Now listen and learn how to R-E-S-P-E-C-T yourself.

| 161: Skin Care, Plastics, And All That Anti-Aging Jazz – J. Shea Terry | 25 Feb 2022 | 00:48:45 | |
Like it or not, all of us gay men are aging. It's a conveyor belt and there is nothing we can do about it. Nor should we feel pressure to do something about it. Yet, some gay men do choose cosmetic surgery and skin care regimes to make themselves feel comfortable in their aging bodies. Then others do what they do to ensure they take the best care of their bodies in a way that suits them.
Rather than be judgy about men who choose skin care, botox, and cosmetic surgeries, listen and learn and you just might be surprised what you might be able to do to be more comfortable in your own skin, without being a cosmetic surgery horror story.
About J. Shea Terry
J. Shea Terry is a Practice Integration and Development specialist in the medical industry who knows a thing or two about taking good care of yourself and making you feel good about how you look, without going to the extremes in the world of cosmetic surgery. From skin care to botox and natural approach cosmetic surgery, J. Shea Terry guides clients in the best possible approaches for making the most of what they have to work with to love who they are in the conveyor belt of aging.

Roles, roles, roles. Everyone wants us to play some role so that it makes it easier to relate to them. We all do it, and don't say you don't. Yet, as gay men, we feel like we have to fit into some constrained role to make our gay lives work...or do we. We're rolling out the roles and saying now more as we explore the sexual roles we play as gay men!

| 155 – There is Gay Life Beyond Prostate Cancer – Kenneth A. Johnson | 14 Jan 2022 | 00:48:41 | |
OMG. My penis no longer works, and my prostate no longer feels pleasure. My life is over! That may be the way it seems, but does having and living with prostate cancer mean, your life is over as a gay man? No! Just ask today's guest, Kenneth A. Johnson. He's living his life to its fullest, owning his challenges with his prostate and sex life, and thriving beyond what would cause most gay men to say, "Screw it. No more sex for me!" This is his awe inspiring story and advice.
About Kenneth
Kenneth is first and foremost the son and only child of Alvin and Nautherine Johnson. Born in Baltimore and raised in Reisterstown, MD, he currently resides in Washington, DC, after living 23 years in Atlanta. Kenneth has worked professionally as an analyst with the federal government for over 34 years. His personal life has included volunteer work with a host of non-profits including the Atlanta Pride Committee, Black and White Men Together of Atlanta, Friends of the Library, and Atlanta neighborhood-based organizations.
Since living in DC, Kenneth helped birth and currently leads a support group for gay men with prostate cancer as a positive consequence of his own 5-year health adventure. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2016.
For fun, Kenneth enjoys time and roadtrips with his parents (frequently to the family homestead in rural Alabama), reading his bookclub’s monthly selection, and binging on Hallmark movies during the holidays. Kenneth tries to live by his personal motto, “Be kind! Be intentional!” and his tattoo collection includes the biblical verses that guide his life: 1 Corinthians 13:13 and Philippians 4:13.

We go to the gym, watch what we eat, many of us use condoms for safer sex experiences, yet one area we don't concern ourselves with - so to speak is our butt health. Sure we know about prostate cancer and the such, but when was the last time you ask your Doctor about the health of your butt.
Starting today, we make butt health a priority - and it has nothing to do with having sex with men. It actually has everything to do with a better understanding of how and what butt (anal) cancer is and how it starts, and what you can do to prevent it. Dr. Gary Bucher a leader in clinical care for all things anal and perianal precancerm talks candidly about what you should be doing to prevent cancer in your bum.
In this episode we discuss:
Bottoms up boys and let's talk about our butts! About Dr. Gary Bucher For over 35 years, Dr. Bucher has been a leader in clinical care and research with HIV/ AIDS patients. He has felt the need to be on the forefront of advances and care for PLWH. Dr. Bucher saw the rates of anal cancer increasing in PLWH, MSM and other high-risk groups. Dr. Bucher started referring patients for work up for abnormal anal pap smears (anal cytology) to colorectal surgeons. He soon found out that his patients were not getting the appropriate evaluation with high resolution anoscopy (HRA). His patients were examined with a rectal exam and a standard plain anoscopy. Subsequently, they were told that everything was normal when they could have had anal precancer that was not seen because an HRA was not performed. His patients felt a false sense of security that they were being evaluated properly and that all was normal. Dr. Bucher quickly found that evaluation and treatment of anal and perianal precancer were nonexistent in Chicago and decided he needed to learn how to perform HRA’s and treat anal precancer. In 2008, Dr. Bucher was so concerned about the trajectory of anal disease in his community, that he started focusing exclusively on providing HRA and HPV related anal disease treatments and opened his Anal Dysplaisa Clinic MidWest (ADC MidWest) in Chicago. Dr. Bucher’s experience continued to evolve with his clinical practice and research to the point where he was able to participate as the principal investigator in the largest anal cancer prevention study (ANCHOR Study) ever conducted in the USA. Dr. Bucher’s private clinical practice enrolled 580 participants from the Chicagoland region out of the 4,446 total U.S. participants. The ANCHOR Study is an anal cancer prevention clinical trial funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and it’s Office of HIV and AIDS Malignancy (OHAM) and AIDS Malignancy Consortium (AMC). Dr. Bucher has remained passionate about the the clinical advancements in the treatment of HPV related diseases. In 2020, Dr. Bucher began to develop a mentorship training program to prepare the next generation of providers in anal precancer screening and treatment. The multi-tiered preceptorship program officially launched in 2023 and is primed to fill a much needed gap in the growing need for providers who are proficient in HRA and HSIL treatments.
