292: Craig Cullinane – Using The Body Electric to Heal From Religious Programming

Episode 292

vendredi 30 août 2024Duration 46:41

Sex and religion. For many, especially gay men, and even more so for gay men who are religious leaders, the thought of erotic pleasure is a "No, no!" Really? Why is that and who made it that way? Exploring the concept that we are all erotic and spiritual beings who desire pleasure, turns the tables on this kind of archaic thinking. You can be erotic, sexual, have desires, and seek pleasure while still holding sacred your relationship with your faith and God. Repeat Guest Craig Cullinane, coach and Body Electric facilitator, guides us to find the intersectionality of sex and faith in this provocative conversation. In this episode:
  • Learn how to make sex a sacred experience
  • Uncover techniques for releasing religious shame around sex and sexuality
  • Discover how opening the door to erotic pleasure can positively impact all areas of your life

291: Max Austin – We can’t be wrong and other gay truths

Episode 291

vendredi 23 août 2024Duration 33:49

Throughout history, all we have heard as gay men is that being gay is WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. Yet, we often ask ourselves, "How can we be wrong?" Debut author Max Austin, shares his insights about his life in the '90s amongst the HIV/AIDS crisis and the shame, vile bullying he experienced as a nurse, which led him to constantly ask the question that is the title of his book, "How can we be wrong? In this episode:
  • Learn the horrible bullying the HIV/AIDs crisis brought on our gay brothers and caretakers
  • Uncover how to have the resilience regardless of the battle as a gay man
  • The most important things to do to keep our dignity as gay men in a world of hate

About Max Max Austin has many passions: his husband, his two children, his writing and his work as a nurse. Oh, and not to forget the family dog of course! Through his writing and lived experiences, Max wants to give a voice to silenced and marginalised LBGTQIA+ groups. He is honoured and humbled that his biofictional memoir ‘How Can We Be Wrong?’  has found a home with Spectrum Books; a dedicated LBGTQIA+ publisher.  Max has been a keynote speaker at LBGTQIA+ inclusion conferences. For Max, kind inclusiveness in health care and indeed our broader society is as vital as breathing. When not working as a nurse or writing, he loves nothing more than spending time with his children and husband. Most weekends, they can be found covered in mud whilst being led through the park by their rather boisterous but friendly black Labrador! 282: Wade Maggert – Breaking Free and Practicing Self-Love

Episode 282

vendredi 21 juin 2024Duration 45:08

Happy Pride. That's what today's guest said over the pounding beat of his DJing life for many years. The thrill, the fun, the drugs, the sex. It all made him feel desired and alive...so to speak, until it didn't. Then he woke to the truth that to be desired and loved, he had to do that to and for himself. Dr. Wade Maggert, brings his Buddhist sensibilities and practical awakened self to this candid conversation about his life, then and now, and shares how during this Pride Season, you can find yourself when you simply look within. About Wade Dr. Wade Maggert, esteemed mental health expert and advocate, harbors a past as vibrant as his current professional pursuits. Before his doctoral days, the world knew him as DJ Ra, spinning tracks in the most electrifying gay nightclubs across global capitals. His journey through the highs of fame was a prelude to personal transformation. Encountering the consequences of an intense lifestyle led him to therapy, revealing the scars of an anti-gay upbringing. Embracing self-love marked the beginning of his dedication to mental health, inspiring a profound shift from electrifying dance floors to empowering lives in the LGBTQ+ community and beyond. With a Master of Social Work from UNLV and a groundbreaking PhD in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, Dr. Maggert has pioneered research into the depths of the masculine psyche. As an educator and a seasoned practitioner, his mastery extends from academia to the frontlines of mental health advocacy. His specializations in advanced therapeutic techniques have revolutionized treatment paradigms. At the helm of three VA mental health programs and at the heart of his private practice, Dragonfly Psychotherapy, Dr. Maggert is a trailblazer for trauma and addiction recovery within the LGBTQ+ community. Beyond his professional prowess, he is a Zen Buddhist adept, weaving the tranquility of meditation into his therapeutic approach and sharing his wisdom at the Houston Zen Center. Dr. Maggert's life's work is not just his occupation, but his offering to the world. Connect With Matt Website Instagram Hey Guys, Check This Out! Are you a guy who keeps struggling to do that thing? 193: Thruples and Polyamory – Kitty Chambliss

Episode 193

vendredi 7 octobre 2022Duration 43:34

Seems non-monogamy is more and more common as gay men try to find themselves in their relationships in a way that works for them as individuals and as a couple, or even a thruple. So how do you make it all work when Monogamy isn't the way. Polyamory expert Kitty Chambliss joins us today to give you great insights on how to thrive in your relationship when the typical just isn't going to cut it. About Kitty A born-and-raised Philly girl with nothing more than passion, a laptop and a dream, I’m proud to have created a socially conscious mission that touches thousands. I am passionate about helping people understand that they have a choice in relationships and their lives in general. And then be proud of who we see in the mirror, increasing self-worth (reducing depression, shame and guilt). And if monogamy is not working for you, you can choose ethical non-monogamy or polyamory. People cheat. LOTS of people cheat. And many more people get hurt by their partners’ infidelity. I am partly fascinated by why people cheat. Being a former cheater myself I at least know why I cheated. And I also know how bad and guilty it made me feel. I used to think there was something wrong with me. I had no idea there was another way to be or to act or to handle relationships back then. I’m irritated that I was never taught that there was another way. I also grew up in a Catholic school being told that sex was only for procreation, homosexuals were evil, and even THINKING about sex or (gasp) masturbating was a surefire way to go to hell. This is a horrible thing to teach our children, and I have spent my entire adult life undoing the damage of this teaching. I even suffered from a form of sexual dysfunction myself for years partly because I had f*cked up feelings and guilt built up around sex. Sex negativity is destructive. Let’s end it!   Upcoming Events + Discount Codes The Open Love Experience: October 13-17, 2022 | Ft. 190: The New Masculine For Gay Men – Travis Stock

Episode 190

vendredi 16 septembre 2022Duration 43:04

What does it mean to be masculine? Who defines it? What does it matter? These are all the big questions we're asking on 40 Plus: Gay Man, Gay Talk Podcast today with fellow Life Coach Travis Stock. He brings his own unique insights into the world of masculinity into play to make you go, "Hmmm? What does masculinity really mean?" About Travis Travis helps you find what creates balance in your life by first seeking acceptance of what is. He helps you connect to your truth in the moment, so that it becomes clearer how to be in alignment with your personal, professional, and relationship goals. He doesn't claim to know all the answers, nor do he feel fit to give you advice for your life. But that is directly in line with his coaching philosophy: You actually have all the answers! Don't trust that? Good, he likes the challenge of connecting you to your own wisdom! One of his favorite areas to explore is the balance between masculine and feminine energies in each of us, regardless of gender, and he believes in the importance of nurturing a relationship with both types of energy to create a sense of wholeness. Some other areas he is fascinated by include emotions, the LGBT community, transformation of trauma and shame, interpersonal relationships, the divine masculine, and living open-heartedly.
