| 123: How to Reverse Engineer Your Revenue Goals | 30 Dec 2024 | 00:23:02 | |
It’s the end of the year, and I just want to start by saying thank you. Seriously, I appreciate you showing up for this podcast, for your business, and for yourself. This is the perfect time to reflect on all you’ve accomplished, even if it feels small. Wins are wins, and they deserve to be celebrated. As we turn the page to a new year, I’m here to remind you that growth and success don’t happen by chance—they happen with a plan. Let’s talk about how to make 2025 your best year yet. A million-dollar salon might sound overwhelming, but it’s totally achievable when you break it down. From monthly revenue goals to daily targets, the numbers start to make sense when you see them step by step. Whether it’s tweaking your team’s performance, increasing retail sales, or refining your client experience, the key is knowing what you want and creating a plan that actually works for you and your business. But here’s the thing: your business can’t thrive unless you’re thriving too. This isn’t just about spreadsheets and goals; it’s about giving yourself the time and space to lead effectively. CEO days, vacations, and moments to unplug aren’t luxuries—they’re essential. If you’re tired of flying by the seat of your pants and ready to run your salon with purpose and clarity, it’s time to make that shift. You don’t have to hustle harder—you just need systems that support you and your team.

| 122: speak to your dream clients with clarity | 23 Dec 2024 | 00:16:58 | |
Today’s episode is packed with actionable tips to refine your salon’s messaging, boost client trust, and grow your business. Plus, I’m sharing updates about the podcast’s brief January hiatus and what’s coming next for the show. In this episode, we’re diving deep into one of the most important topics for salon success: your messaging. From website copy to Instagram bios, your words need to resonate with your target clients and communicate exactly what you offer. I’m breaking down why vague messaging like “We do great hair” won’t cut it, and how using solution-oriented language such as “Let me help you get the blonde you’ve always wanted” can create a powerful connection with potential clients. We’ll also talk about ensuring your messaging is consistent across all platforms—your website, Yelp, Google, email campaigns, and social media. Consistency builds trust and helps clients feel seen and understood, which is key to filling your books and driving referrals. I’ll share a real-life example of a salon website update that took a stylist from sporadic bookings to inquiries flooding in weekly—all through better messaging that reflected their unique expertise. Finally, we’ll touch on the importance of reflecting your specialty in your messaging and why you need systems to streamline your communications. If you’re tired of winging it and want to move away from the “hamster wheel” of salon life, now is the time to refine your messaging strategy. Plus, don’t miss my personal holiday reflections, including how to gracefully handle tricky conversations with a well-placed “Oh.” 🎄 Happy Holidays! Don’t forget to share the episode, tag me on Instagram, and join the conversation. Want more? Check out Salon Quarterly to dive deeper into strategies for growing your beauty business. Thanks for listening, and I’ll see you here next week!
| 113: give people a reason to spend their money with you | 21 Oct 2024 | 00:16:55 | |
In this episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, I’m diving into a crucial topic: in any economy, people are still spending—you just need to give them a reason to spend it with you. With some salon owners noticing a lull in October, it’s time to reframe how you see these quieter periods. The truth is, clients will always find money for what they value most, and your job is to make sure your services are at the top of their list. I’ll walk you through how to communicate the value of your offerings in a way that speaks to your clients' needs and desires, especially when the economy feels uncertain. It’s not about offering discounts or scrambling for new customers—it’s about building relationships, showing the transformation you provide, and making sure your clients view your services as essential, no matter what’s going on in the world. I also share a recent experience that highlights how small, thoughtful touches can make a big difference in customer loyalty. Plus, if you haven’t started using YouTube to boost your salon’s visibility, I explain why now is the perfect time to jump in and how it can easily fit into your marketing strategy without adding extra stress. This episode is packed with insights on how to keep clients spending in any economy, by simply giving them the right reason to do so. Let’s ensure your beauty business is always top of mind! Do you feel like you are sometimes on the back foot with your business because of what you are seeing others sharing? I am pulling away from my schedule for podcasts to bring you this episode after a post I put up had such a huge response, I just knew I needed to speak about it with my podcast people. Firstly, let's be real for a minute, those pictures that we scroll through on social media day after day, they are a curated snapshot, they are not a true reflection of what is going on in our amazing industry each and every day. They are for some but not for all of us. In this week's episode I want to tackle those feelings that you may be having about your business, I want to bring it back and get real with you. This episode is the record scratch that you need to bring yourself back to your business, your journey and your goals. I know this can be very difficult sometimes, and we can focus a lot on the shiny object out there and compare ourselves with that. But we are all on different journeys, success can look very different to you then it would to the next person. Once you have your own goals in your mind, you have a plan on how you want to get there and you stick to your own path, these beautifully curated pictures will inspire you rather than make you feel you are not achieving success. What do you do when the ... hits the fan? Do you run and hide? Do you ignore? At the same time, you cannot blow up and explode each and every time something / somebody pushes your buttons. I've been getting so many DM's lately about this very problem, people are always looking for solutions, looking for guidance. | 20: ugh, discipline | 16 Jan 2023 | 00:26:10
Discipline..... What does this word mean to you? What feeling does this work evoke in you? For me, discipline is what supports my goals to make them happen. We have our plan, we have our goals, but we need discipline to work hand in hand to keep us moving forward, to keep moving our needle in the right direction. The first step is, as always, understanding our WHY, why I want a goal, why I want to achieve something. Then discipline comes in as the thing that I need to keep me from falling off, from giving up, from not reaching my goal. In this episode I am going to give you my rules of how I create discipline in my world. I will explain how I became more disciplined, how I brought this into my world, and how discipline has made the difference for me and how it can make the difference for you and your business. I want you to feel good in your business, I want what you are doing to bring you joy, discipline will get you there, discipline is the difference to give you this life. | 15: how to have more confidence | 12 Dec 2022 | 00:30:59
I'm getting a little vulnerable in this episode of the 10-minute beauty business podcast. I hope you don't mind. And the reason I am, is because of a question that I received in the DM's. This question was the inspiration for today’s episode, it was the reminder for me that I myself and so many others struggle with this, maybe not all the time, but from time to time we totally do. So here it is, how do I build more confidence? I am sharing some of my tips of how I overcome that negative self-talk, how I bring myself back, what I have to say to myself and how it works for me. This episode is vulnerable, this episode does get a little deep, but I really believe that it will help you if you are struggling right now, or if you have a tendency to struggle with confidence in your business. So, have a pen and paper ready to jot down some of my tips, or allow your own thoughts to flow as to how you can adapt these to work in your world. And remember I am here cheering you on ALWAYS! How do I beat stress in my business? Running in a constant stressed state is not good for our mind, body or soul. In this episode, I share with you some practical ways that you can combat stress in your business and ultimately beat it before it takes hold of you. I am not talking about business planning in this episode, and you know your gal loves her planning, that being said, these steps will work better with solid planning as a foundation for everything else in your day to day world. I want you to build your business that is in alignment with your Dream 10. I want your business to bring you joy, not bring you burnout. Remember stress is like the tides in the sea, it comes and it goes. But what I am speaking about in this episode is that constant stress, that stressed state that doesn't leave you, it's with you in work, it's with you at home, its everywhere. Also, if you didn't listen to last week's episode, How to be happy in your business, go back and have a listen to that too. These two episodes will really help if you are losing sight of where you want to go. After listening, I would love you to tag me in a story - simply say "I wrote my permission slip", you'll understand why after the episode. I get vulnerable in this episode, I get honest and real, so I hope you enjoy! How to be happy in business This episode is a little different to my norm. But this topic is so important, and isn't spoken about enough. When was the last time that you stopped and took stock of what was going on in your business, thinking "is my business making me happy", "is my business bringing me joy". Because if the answer is no to either of those questions then WTF, like seriously. I know right, I've been there, when you are so stuck in your business that you can't see out. But I hope this episode will be like a record scratch, a reminder for you to stop for a few minutes and evaluate what's going on, what is working well, what is bringing you joy and what isn't. Please let me know what you think of this episode, because it is a little different, so I would love to know what you think. | 111: salon leadership secrets: reduce team friction and maximize efficiency | 07 Oct 2024 | 00:30:18
In this episode of the 10 Minute Beauty Business Podcast, I’m joined by Kasie Heiden, a specialist in leadership and team dynamics, to address one of the biggest challenges salon owners face: leading a salon team effectively without creating bottlenecks. We focus on practical salon leadership strategies that help beauty business owners get out of their own way—removing the barriers that often stem from miscommunication or lack of team alignment. Kasie shares powerful tools that transform workplace friction into productive momentum, helping salon businesses succeed instead of stagnate. This episode provides valuable insights on how to create a well-functioning salon, build a positive salon culture, and boost team productivity. We look at the common problem of salon culture fit—what happens when a stylist or team member doesn’t align with the existing salon vibe, even if their technical skills are great? This is one of the most frequent challenges beauty business owners encounter, and we discuss effective ways to solve it. Kasie shares methods to bridge these gaps by using tools like CliftonStrengths to uncover each team member’s unique strengths and align them with the salon's goals. By understanding each stylist’s individual abilities, salon leaders can create a more cohesive team, avoid typical leadership pitfalls, and make the salon a more positive and productive workplace. It’s about removing the hidden obstacles that hold your salon back, especially those rooted in emotional tension, unclear expectations, or communication breakdowns. Kasie also shares techniques to enhance self-awareness, improve communication within the salon, and build a supportive culture that minimizes misunderstandings and boosts efficiency. Imagine managing your team without the stress because they understand your vision, know their roles, and are fully aligned with the salon’s mission. This kind of leadership approach leads to a thriving salon. Higher productivity, effective delegation, and a motivated team can translate directly to better profitability. We outline how to implement these changes to see real results. If you’re a salon owner dealing with issues like team friction, poor communication, or low productivity, this episode is filled with solutions to transform your beauty business. Whether it’s helping your team understand their place in the bigger picture or learning how to stop micromanaging, Kasie’s insights are exactly what you need to stop bottlenecking your success. This episode is about more than just improving daily operations—it’s about creating a sustainable, thriving beauty business where both you and your team can grow and succeed. Tune in to learn how to lead your salon with confidence, build a winning team culture, and truly elevate your beauty business. Connect with Kasie on Instagram - @kasie.heiden or on LinkedIn

| 110: the real cost of 'free rent' | 30 Sep 2024 | 00:13:58 | |
Does being a salon owner make you feel dead inside? In today’s episode, I’m getting real about why so many salon owners feel burnt out and why it doesn't have to be that way. Owning a salon should be empowering, not a drain on your energy or just a way to get “free rent”. It’s time to reshape how you think about your salon’s profitability and, most importantly, how you value your own time and leadership. Most salon owners I talk to aren’t paying themselves properly—if at all. They’re working endless hours, managing staff, dealing with product costs, and handling every tiny detail, often for little more than the privilege of being called an "owner". This needs to change. I share insights on how to reframe your compensation, the importance of systems, and why you need to get out of your own way to let your business grow and thrive. Being a salon owner means wearing a lot of hats, but it doesn't mean you should sacrifice your mental health and happiness in the process. You need to have boundaries, empower your team, and focus on cultivating a culture that lets everyone shine—without micromanaging every detail. A great salon thrives when everyone, including you, has the opportunity to grow. If you’re ready to stop simply getting by and start making your salon a source of pride and profit, tune in to this episode. Also check out my Supported Salon Owner program—designed to help you build a business that works for you, not the other way around. It’s time to value yourself and your business as much as you value your clients and your team.

So many business owners, me included once upon a time, didn't feel like they were "able" to take a vacation! It's crazy to think about it. But to understand the reasons why you believe you are unable to be away from your business, you need to drill down to find out what the issues actually are. It could be that you are the main earner, you are a one man band/one women band so everything is reliant on you, maybe it's that you feel your business wouldn't be able to carry on without you there, or maybe you just don't currently have the right systems in place to allow yourself this time. Well if you fall into any of those categories listen in to this episode where I give you some amazing tips on how to overcome those issues. Remember you are the commander of your own ship, you make these decisions because you MUST be treating your business like a business. Enjoy! | 37: why aren't they buying from me? | 23 May 2022 | 00:27:42
Why don't they buy from me? This is a question that I hear a lot from the gals in my salon and within my coaching students. Every day in salons across the country, clients are buying products elsewhere, when they could buy from us. Why are they going to Amazon or Target or wherever it is?? It’s frustrating right? But there is a simple solution. In this episode, I will tell you what to do to increase your retail sales. There are a few really important but simple tactics that you can put in place today to bring up those numbers. Simple changes like telling your clients to buy from you or having scripted policies for sales in your business. Don't forget our 17 - 22 touch points to make a sale, and using our 3 part promo system. Listen in if retail is a struggle for you and your salon. I also have an amazing program - Profit Project Retail Edition - click here to check that out. Enjoy today’s episode and make sure to let me know over on IG if you put any of these tactics in place in your business and how you get on. | 35: your clients need you to | 09 May 2022 | 00:29:40
What does your client really need from you? This is such an interesting conversation for all beauty professionals. We need to realise that what our clients need from us is so much more than just their beauty service. We need to show up for our clients consistently. We need to be there for them with epic advice and we need to share our knowledge with them. I know some of us think "oh I don't know that much about X or Y subject", but let me tell you, you do, and you know more than your client about products they should use, or hair trends etc. In this episode I will cover off a few ways that I know your client needs you to show up for them. Enjoy! DM me and let me know what you think of this episode and if you can leave me a review on whatever platform you choose to listen in on, and don’t forget to share the show with your friends in the industry. | 33: moving meditation | 25 Apr 2022 | 00:20:12
I have a brand new moving meditation for you. This meditation focuses on your business. All of the quotes and mantras or inspirational moments are directed towards things in your business. We oftentimes need to get our feet on the ground in our life and for our emotional wellbeing or mental health. We need to sit still and have a minute. If you have never done a moving meditation before, just move around and listen in, or sit down and listen, it's your decision, whatever you are comfortable with. Just listen with an open mind. This is positive, uplifting, and directed towards your business. So, enjoy and have a listen. Make sure you DM me on Instagram @lomax.lexi and let me know what you thought about this meditation and if you enjoyed it and would like to hear more. | 32: remember who the eff you are | 18 Apr 2022 | 00:34:06
What is holding you back from the success you want and deserve? What are you telling yourself every day that is standing in your way? We have spoken in the last few episodes about being in the GOOP, not having confidence in yourself and your business. Today, we are continuing that trend and we are speaking about the fact that the fears of failure is holding you back. Being comfortable in your business is good, but does it serve you? Does being comfortable in your business or staying in your lane, move that needle forward to achieve the life by design that you want? The answer is NO. In this episode, I talk about letting go of the fear that is holding you back. Always remember, success is not available without failure, and when we fail we fail forward. Book recommendation (this book changed my life) The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks Beauty Biz BFF is coming soon - JOIN THE WAITLIST so you don't miss this.
