Épisode 1

dimanche 6 octobre 2024Durée 32:03

Welcome to the very first episode of the 4D Podcast – Reclaiming Narratives. In this premiere, Winnie, Nike, Hannah, and Bukola (B)—four incredible women of colour—share the inspiring story of how they came together, formed an unbreakable sisterhood, and launched this podcast.

These four powerhouses, each holding senior leadership roles in corporate spaces, open up about their journey of accountability, empowerment, and personal growth. What began as a space to vent about their experiences in the workplace has evolved into something much deeper—a supportive bond where they can show up as their authentic selves.

In this episode, we explore the power of sisterhood and how crucial it is to have a strong, intentional network. We talk about finding psychological safety through friendships built within your industry and career, and how these connections can nurture both personal and professional growth. As four friends who met at work, we reflect on how we nurtured our bond and the transformation we’ve experienced since.

Throughout the episode, we also offer advice on how to build your own supportive sisterhood—creating spaces where you’re seen, even before you see yourself.

Episode 2: I’m not your superwoman - The Power of Self-Advocacy

Épisode 2

lundi 14 octobre 2024Durée 28:38

In this week's episode of Reclaiming Narratives, co-hosts Bukola (B), Winnie, and Hannah, led by Nike, delve into the often-overlooked but vital topic of self-advocacy. With sincerity and warmth, they share the struggles and victories of speaking up for oneself—particularly as Black women navigating the complexities of the professional world.

The conversation opens with a personal story from Nike about a shocking experience with emergency services. Despite being in a vulnerable situation, she found herself having to push persistently to receive the help she needed. This personal anecdote sets the stage for a broader discussion on the importance of self-advocacy, not just in healthcare, but in every facet of life—from the workplace to personal relationships. It’s a powerful reminder of the need to stand firm and advocate for oneself, especially when systems fall short.

As the discussion unfolds the ladies acknowledge that advocating for yourself is rarely straightforward. As women of colour, they often face additional hurdles to being seen and heard, whether in corporate settings or when seeking medical attention. But, as they emphasise, the journey begins with self-awareness—knowing your worth and articulating your needs with clarity and confidence. “You can’t advocate for yourself if you don’t know what you want,” as Bukola points out, highlighting the importance of personal clarity.

The episode is filled with practical advice, such as the importance of documenting your achievements, setting clear expectations, and building a support network. Filled with real-life stories, relatable moments, and a sense of community that’s both uplifting and reassuring, this episode is a testament to the power of sisterhood and support. As they remind us, “Your network is your net worth”—a call to action for everyone to seek out communities that uplift and affirm them.

We enjoyed speaking on this topic and hope you love the episode! ✨❤️👸🏾

Episode 4: Who’s on your personal board? - The Power of Leadership

Épisode 4

mardi 29 octobre 2024Durée 35:36

In the final episode of the limited series - Reclaiming Narratives, Bukola (B), Winnie, Nike, and Hannah come together to explore the evolution of leadership, particularly through the lens of Black women in corporate spaces. The conversation begins with a candid look at the challenges of leadership, emphasising how breaking through the "glass" or "brass" ceiling involves more than just professional qualifications. It’s about confronting self-doubt, overcoming systemic bias, and navigating environments that may not always feel welcoming.

Hannah shares a powerful story about mentoring a young leader on the cusp of a significant career move, but held back by fear—an experience many of us can relate to. Winnie highlights the importance of leading oneself before leading others, sparking an insightful debate on the core qualities of effective leadership. As the conversations flow, it becomes clear that self-leadership forms the foundation for truly authentic leadership.

Nike speaks openly about her experience with imposter syndrome, explaining that it’s something she’s learned to manage rather than eliminate. Her story underscores the significance of self-belief in career advancement, while reflecting on vulnerability, authenticity, and empathy as essential traits for today’s leaders. We also discuss the pressures of being the only Black woman in the room, the weight it can carry, and the importance of maintaining confidence in such spaces.

By the episode’s end, listeners are left with profound insights on leadership: it’s not about titles or positions but about owning your space, showing up with purpose, and embracing your unique strengths. The laughter, real talk, and shared experiences create an empowering atmosphere that will inspire anyone on their leadership journey to show up unapologetically, embrace their potential, and lead with confidence.

We had an amazing time talking about this topic and hope it inspires you to own your space and step up to lead! ✨❤️👸🏾
