John Robins: the many moods of podcasting, mental health, and Wordle (Elis & John / How Do You Cope / Howl) #608
Épisode 608
mercredi 5 mars 2025 • Durée 01:14:55
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by comic and podcaster and friend to us all, JOHN ROBINS!
A naturally evolving podcast which goes from subject to subject while remaining focused and sober at all times. It's almost as if the two people being recorded are podcast professionals. What kicks things off though is a very interesting and revealing chat about mental health, considering the potential saturation with the constant pursuit of happiness (and 'optimisation fatigue'). Elsewhere you'll be treated to a rundown of ways John is similar to Pip, separating the Crossfit politics from the actual actions which are - all said and done - body movements, a good chunk on Wordle (so prepare for that if you are done with Wordle!), politics, toxic podcasting, time anxiety and the benefits thereof, and the joy of Lou Sanders! Because almost all of the world's issues can be solved by enjoying Lou Sanders. And Bonnie Prince Billy, which John and many of us (producer Buddy typing this...!) share. A ton to enjoy. Get started!

Florence Pugh (We Live In Time / Midsommar / Don't Worry Darling) • Friday Rewind
vendredi 28 février 2025 • Durée 01:14:49
emocleW, emocleW, emocleW to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This is your bonus FRIDAY REWIND episode! Today, we catch up with Florence Pugh, originally episode 188 from 2018-02-07.
Original writeup below!
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
A powerful conversation, full of energy and positivity and just pure satisfying goodness for your podcast enjoyment, as Pip and Florence get right down to it and cover everything from said favourite film Lady Macbeth (surely you’ve seen that by now and if not, amend that!), the subtle differences behind the scenes of indie and blockbuster films and merits of the former, the backlog of projects and the weirdness of doing promo several years after, her attitude towards nudity in film roles and how the media handles it versus how she handles it, her upcoming role as Paige in Fighting With My Family and the insane logistics of that, the dichotomy of murder on screen and nudity on screen and how it seems society in general is far more comfortable seeing violence, the female perspective as a director as opposed the male gaze, growing up in a loud family and her acting history and last but certainly not least, a pitch from she and Pip for a combined role in Peaky Blinders. How can they lose? One’s thing’s for sure - you won’t, so get yourself comfy and listen in won’t you!

TV Shows Of The Year 2024: featuring John & Joel of The Dream Factory #603
Épisode 603
mercredi 29 janvier 2025 • Durée 01:09:02
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
An episode celebrating the past year of television, from streamers to terrestrials - it's TV Of The Year 2024 with Joe & Joel!
(Producer Buddy here - I've once again recklessly recycled a previous writeup for this one because my original is still entirely apt - dates have changed for obvious reasons but otherwise - enjoy the timewarp!)
Another delightful end of year TV roundup from three people who truly know and care about their televisual diet. These are names you can trust, folks. You might know John and Joel from their own film podcast called Dream Factory (the world's greatest user-generated movie creation podcast), which Pip is a true fan of and contributor to, but if not, here is your chance to get to know them and become fast friends! This podcast goes appropriately deep into the television shows of the year in a hugely positive way, but of course you'll hear about some of the trials and tribulations of being such big devourers of content - the endless options of platforms, the accessibility of them all, and everything else... But really it's a perfect way to get up to speed on the things you might have missed, and also hear people chat about the shows that we all loved throughout the year. Who knows what 2025 has in store for us... But really - who cares? This is 2024 right here! ENJOY!

Psychedelics w/ Andy Mitchell • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #533
Épisode 533
mardi 26 septembre 2023 • Durée 01:00:12
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by neuropsychologist and author ANDY MITCHELL!
A wildly interesting chat with Pip about not just the broad area of psychedelics, but the culture surrounding them and some of the modern spins on it all that we might be encountering on our travels. With all the wide world of psychedelics, it's really fascinating to hear about the side that sometimes doesn't get looked at, and to get some light shone on it with a slightly different perspective. A refreshing and neutral take too, without a huge amount of baggage hitched onto the wagon. Loads of angles, ideas and takes in fact, so definitely add this to your greater explorations! And check Andy's book too - link below...

Otto Baxter • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #532
Épisode 532
mardi 19 septembre 2023 • Durée 53:13
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by actor and director OTTO BAXTER!
...and joined by PETER BEARD and BRUCE FLETCHER of course. The trio here are responsible for the horror film 'The Puppet Asylum', and the documentary about Otto and the making of said film, 'Otto Baxter: Not A F*cking Horror Story'. Otto lives with Down Syndrome, which is of course not the main focus of this ace human but something that has had an affect on his world since birth. It's a great thing to hear about the making of the feature and the documentary, and a cool way of looking at such a creative outpouring. In this chat you hear the loud and proud Otto himself and from the directors involved who make a great pyramid of setup, explanation, discussion and general fun. At times you might notice that it's not the most calm, meditative and laidback ride BUT please don't let that draw you away - it's a really cool look at the world of Otto and the worlds Otto has created. Enjoy!

Épisode 531
mardi 12 septembre 2023 • Durée 54:39
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by actor, writer and comic ANDI OSHO!
Another delightful time right here for you, as Pip and Andi catch up and get right into all things of interest quickly and with no hesitation. So much ground gets covered and it's all super inspiring, including bodies and minds and neuroplasticity, dealing with energies at school, earnestness and not feeling the cynicism, spending time being out of touch with pop music, logic puzzles of standup, bookwriting mechanics, winning the room and acting on the whole - as well as all that amazing connective tissue that comes with it... A great time so do not pass this one up.

Susan Wokoma • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #530
Épisode 530
mardi 5 septembre 2023 • Durée 01:00:33
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by actor and writer and second time guest SUSAN WOKOMA!
A true delight right here as Susan jumps back in the DPP game for another sureshot episode, and as you'll hear - and as you'd expect - in about 6 years or so SO MUCH HAS HAPPENED. But also, reassuringly there's a lot left on the side so this bodes well for a third appearance in the future...!
Amongst the goodness you can expect from Susan in this Grade A ep, we get to hear about her strut, her younger days Helen Mirren obsession, the enforced scarcity mentality of women in the industry, industry dissillusionment, being comfortable in her body, Cheaters, life re-evaluations, the turning point of reductive and weird feedback, pride in comedic acting, how tough comedic acting is, working with the awesome Deborah Frances-White and the importance of passion. Jewels and gems to be gained especially if you're someone involved in the industry or considering it. Go back and peep the first ep if you missed it! ENJOY!

Josh Pugh • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #529
Épisode 529
mardi 29 août 2023 • Durée 58:11
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by comic excellence and ace human being JOSH PUGH!
One of those geniunely organic episodes which seems to form from the ground up and find a rhythm and pace all of its own. A lovely look into the mind of Josh, who specialises in comedy and standup but with a very social approach, which feels like it stems from his work in the social sector over the years. That comes up later which is fascinating and really great to hear about, but expect to hear everything from the other points of his life, including his recent Fringe work in progress run, to the origins and roots in comedy, vision impairment, social media, people who "crack the algorithm" and all the other things it takes to be a part of the comedy world. Great stuff, and very inspiring. Enjoy!
ALSO - Pip indicates this in the intro but just in case, there's a little 5 minute bonus with Blindboy around halfway through the ep. All will make sense. And it's much fun.

Shaggy • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #528
Épisode 528
mardi 22 août 2023 • Durée 51:00
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by dancehall champion and superstar reggae musician SHAGGY!
Very broadly speaking, a lot of you will know Shaggy as Mr Boombastic, or the guy who did Oh Carolina and It Wasn't Me. But dig a little deeper and there are worlds of releases and shows and all sorts of stories from the past that are just too exciting and interesting to pass up on... And that's what makes this last minute convo with Pip and Shaggy so awesome! It's the stories behind the hits that are amazing, and the historical signifigance of them too. But in that world, of course there will be all kinds of run-ins, collabos, tales and amazing anecdotes, and Shaggy delivers on all counts. So whether you're a full on dancehall reggae appreciator or someone who remembers the name, don't miss this one - it's super entertaining and a fascinating trip from start to end.

Open Mike Eagle • Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip #527
Épisode 527
mardi 15 août 2023 • Durée 59:43
Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!
This week Pip is joined by rapper, podcaster, producer, showmaker and all round multi-hyphenate OPEN MIKE EAGLE!
This one's what they call a kinda 'special request' episode, where - to break the 4th wall - I (Buddy ✌🏼) suggested to Pip about getting Mike on again. Mike's been on before but YEARRRS ago and while his episode is obviously well worth checking, this is the more up to date one being a good 8 years after! And so much has happened in those years... New albums, a podcast network containing a bunch of series of awesome podcasts, a show, Twitch, a pandemic, and to quote Mike, "anime, trauma and divorce". Not all of these are in this episode but ya know, it all goes in the stew somewhere doesn't it. A lovely episode and Mike's always a treat - expect a good old fashioned catch up with many tangents within. ENJOY! And listen to all the stuff - and Mike's on Patreon too, links are below >>>
