Most of the guests we will be interviewing have an AS diagnosis.  They were once in a lot of pain and are feeling much better.  They are living normal lives.  Most of them did this without the use of special diets and are off AS medication.  We will be asking briefly about their history and more importently how they did it.

Matt Haag. AS/Crohn's diagnosed. 30 years of symptoms. Now Symptom free. Off all medication.

Matt is 45 at the time of this recording and had symptoms of one degree or another since he was around 10-12 years old. Symptoms were very bad when he was first diagnosed with AS at 27. He was working in a high-stress corporate sales job, drinking too much and taking lots of over-the-counter medication to soothe symptoms. Matt had a lot of difficulty sleeping and started having flares so bad he could barely walk to and from his car.

Matt grew up in a small city of around 10,000 people in rural Minnesota in the US. He was raised in a religious fundamentalist Evangelical household with his four younger sisters. His parents worked working-class jobs and were very active in church. Although he went to college for a couple of years in Wyoming, he didn’t leave his hometown until he graduated from college at 25. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and moved to Minneapolis where he worked in several different corporate positions. He became very disillusioned with the business world so went back to school for Paralegal.

He met his wife around that time and was married and had a son within a few years of dating.

He currently lives in Tumwater Washington and works in the state government as a Public Records Officer.

Craig is 37 years old and grew up on a farm in South Dakota. He always had big dreams and high anxiety. He was brought up in a stable family, his parents are still together and his mother and father both had anxiety and he now realizes how much that imprinted on him.

He dropped out of law school to be a comedian at age 23 and did some shows, but by then he was 5 years into a pretty heavy alcohol addiction to cope with panic attacks. He worked odd jobs, until he was 28 years old, at which point he had a mental breakdown and quit alcohol.

He always had aches and pains, injuries that lasted all summer, foot issues, etc. He never took care of the mental aspect after getting sober, and then the stress of 2020 spring at age 34, the pandemic kicked things into overdrive, suddenly his leg and S.I. joint were constantly inflamed to the point of not sleeping, not being able to walk. Went to dozens of doctors, orthopaedics, brain and spine doctors, and finally, he was the one who suggested an HLA-B27 test. Then finally after waiting..in Feb 2022 his rheumatologist told him biologics are the answer since he had tried NSAIDs for so long, and that he would have this for life. He didn't accept this, and that’s when he started searching (meat-only diet, CBD oil, and seed gut protocols, stretching, special hip apparatuses for relieving muscle tension, and massages.

For his career, he does freelance drone photography, auctioneering, and cattle farming with his dad.

Brady Mavetz - AS Diagnosed. Off all Medication including Biologics.

Saison 5 · Épisode 31

samedi 13 mars 2021Durée 01:29:12

Brady Mavetz is 24 years old, from the suburbs of Minnesota and raised in a supportive family. Became very competitive in his youth. He wasn’t sure of what career to go into, so he trained to be an Engineer only to discover that it wasn’t his passion. He pushed through the program because he thought it was what people wanted him to do. He was operating under the assumption that it took hard work that determined his value. He holds this mentality responsible for leading him into disease.

Here are some key points within the interview.

I asked him, why spread this message and this is what he said. Part of recovering from an “incurable disease”, when you're in it, the fear that you can never get out of the clutches of that reality can be quite scary.

He mentions needing many testimonials in order to believe that it was actually possible. He wondered, how could the mind be possible for controlling physical pain?

He discusses his choice to have Arthroscopic hip surgery performed, which led to a year of rehab and no improvement.

When he began taking Biologics he went from an 8 or 9 in pain down to 7 or 6. Switched to Enbrel which helped a little more but not much.

Was working with Ralph Ruiz for a couple weeks and was getting fearful because he still felt pain. Ralph offered this advice “just imagine that this program doesn’t work for you, that you have already failed” and within a week Brady’s pain had gone down significantly. Brady realized he was putting too much pressure on himself.

Brady goes on to say, don’t resist emotion as it comes up. It has nothing to do with reality. The more he sat with these uncomfortable emotions, the easier it became. A lot of the pain comes up because of the resistance to feeling and allowing this emotion to be there.

He is learning to trust himself more rather than trying to produce himself through the eyes of other people

Go to 41:50 to hear Brady describe how bizarre it is to feel pain disappear by essentially doing nothing but admitting to thoughts and emotions. His belief was that nothing is easy, so he was over complicating everything, over thinking and it turns out it was much easier than he could imagine and it didn’t really involve thinking. He learned what was required was to let the fear of not knowing what he was doing be there. To let it be there.

Go to 46:40 where he sums it all up. What he says here is what can be learned from pain and discomfort.

49:00 How working with a coach can be helpful.

51:35 What someone may learn if they started training in mind body work.

55:25  Listen to this.

58:35 How he is doing now. Getting off all medication.

1:11:20  If you are questioning the validity of the mind body connection.
