Alice Min Soo Chun is the Co-founder and CEO of Solight Design, an author, TedX speaker, and female inventor of Solight-Design, SEEU95 and the SolarPuff, the world’s only self-inflatable, portable solar light. She has been featured on Tamron Hall, Good Morning America, MSNBC, Marie Claire’s Powertrip 2022, The Skimm, The Story Exchange, Fast Company, The New York Times, and more. Alice was nominated for USPTO Patents for Humanitarian Winner in 2018, and was nominated as Forbes 50 Over 50 recognizable women of 2022. Alice was also recently featured in the new Apple TV+ show ‘Gutsy’ hosted by Hillary and Chelsea Clinton, where Alice is highlighted alongside other female powerhouses such as Wanda Sykes, Amy Shumer, Megan Thee Stallion and others.

Her first invention, the SolarPuff, has impacted over 1 million people living in underserved regions worldwide. She has won numerous awards, including the US Patent Award for Humanity. Her inventions have been exhibited at MOMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. In 2019, she was featured in Hillary Clinton’s book, “The Book of Gutsy Women”. She was honored as a Fast Company "World Changing Idea" in 2022 and recognized as a Marie Claire Power Trip 2022 Honoree for Most Influential Woman. Additionally, she was named a 2022 Forbes IMPACT honoree and was featured on Apple TV docuseries "GUTSY" Episode 6, alongside Hillary Clinton. She was also featured on ABC's Good Morning America during her recent mission to Ukraine.

Amanda Freeman is a sociologist with research interests in poverty, social policy, qualitative methods, gender, family and education. She was the co-recipient of a Presidential Award for Early Career Scholars from the Russell Sage Foundation for 2017-2019. The award supported the production of her book manuscript for Getting Me Cheap: How low wage work traps women and girls in poverty, based on interview data that explores the experience of low-income parents pursuing higher education in the United States. Her current work explores work-family conflict for low-income mothers.

Amanda is also public sociologist who translates her research about the struggles of low-income families into news articles for media outlets including the Atlantic. In 2013, she received the Dentler Award from the public sociology section of the American Sociological Association (ASA) in recognition of “exceptional research and writing on the challenges facing low-income single mother-headed families and communication of research and its policy implications to a broader audience.”

At the University of Hartford, Professor Freeman teaches a variety of courses including Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of the Family, Social Welfare and Inequality. Amanda is also a board member of the National Center for Student Parent Programs.
