This episode is a special one since my sister Wendy is my guest! She went through the discovery that she had Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, which is the autoimmune form of having an underactive thyroid condition. Wendy was living her life as a mother, a wife, and a working woman. She thought it was normal not to have the energy that she once had, to have headaches, to feel overwhelmed, to have some digestive issues, and urinary tract infections. But it was not, normal shouldn't feel this way!
In this episode, Wendy shares her story, because this is the way we learn, hearing the stories of other women and their struggles, realizing we are not alone. Wendy is currently in remission for Hashimoto’s even when she was told by her doctors and endocrinologist that this was just not possible; she achieved this by prioritizing her body and health.

Julie Daniluk RHN is a leading nutritionist and the co-host of Healthy Gourmet, a reality cooking show on OWN (the Oprah Winfrey Network). For twelve years, she was a co-operative owner and the Chief in store Nutritionist for one of Canada's largest health food stores, The Big Carrot Natural Food Market.
In this episode, Julie shares her knowledge about inflammation and how to reverse inflammatory conditions. Julie cured herself from what started as an E-coli infection she contracted in Asia, that kept progressing until she decided she needed to take the matter in her own hands.
She developed a list of foods that made her feel horrible, that ended up as a 15 pages document that Julie shared with friends and later became the foundation of her book Meals That Heal Inflammation.
Women suffer with inflammation more than men do. When women are transiting menopause, the sudden drop in estrogen causes higher inflammatory responses. The fact that women need to metabolize more estrogen than men, makes them more genetically predisposed to having a more sensitive immune system.
Inflammation acts different during the stages in women’s life. Young people tend to have polycystic ovarian syndrome, in these cases an ultrasound can be a great way to know more about the ovaries’ health before any treatment is implemented (avoid birth control pills as a measure to treat hormonal imbalance at all costs!)
It is also important to keep in mind that our intolerance to certain foods place one of the biggest roles in the hormonal cascade, so remember that researching and finding out which foods we don’t tolerate is crucial to our overall health.
How can we devise a realistic approach to removing these inflammatory triggers in our body? Start a food journal before beginning an elimination protocol. Learn about what you are eating and start adding foods that have macronutrients, as well as doubling up essential fatty acids, and get ready to feel amazing results in your hormonal balance within a month or two.
How do we reduce autoimmunity? When you suffer from leaky gut (hyperpermeability of the gut) there is a high autoimmune response from your body. To help digestion Mandarin Skin Plus is a great ally and is a key tool to reduce autoimmunity. Also, you should add probiotics to your diet, but be very careful of highly fermented foods (like kombucha) that bring in a lot of histamine and sugar cane.
Favorite superfoods Artichokes: Every single part of the artichoke has its own super power! Arugula: Shifts hormones while reducing inflammation, and assists your liver in metabolizing estrogen correctly. Burdock: Is a profound blood, lymphatic and liver cleanser that also helps eliminate toxins. Cherries and Pomegranates: Have them for better fertility and anti-inflammatory effect. Add raw cacao to your diet (not sugar filled commercial chocolate!).

In this episode, I am joined by Kristen Nagle, who is a former registered nurse. She was a registered nurse for 14 years and primarily worked in the NICU. It is said that our children forever change us and Kristen experienced this more than she ever knew possible. After the birth of her first son, she became really passionate about the food for her children and how she was nourishing and taking care of them. She ended up enrolling in the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, where I actually graduated from in 2001. She became a Holistic Nutritionist on top of being a nurse working in the conventional medical care system. Her second son had some issues after being born and being exposed to some of his early childhood immunizations, which really opened her eyes up, especially working in that industry. It really just, peeled off this kind of top layer of us being able to, as parents, as mothers, ask questions when our child's body is exhibiting something that would feel outside of the norm of our baby. Then in having her third baby, her little girl, this really felt like her redemption birth, which would forever change the perception of how incredibly strong women are and the beautiful gift that we have been given in motherhood. So now her passion has transformed from being inside the walls of the hospital and being out into the world and helping women find their power to truly reclaim their birth.

Asha is an Indigenous Medicine Woman, Spiritual Mentor and Healer who believes that all healing is possible when we remember who we are. She has had a private healing practice for the past 15 years and has helped thousands of people come back to wholeness, health and self love. Through ceremony, healing circles, mentorship and other medicine ways, Asha has held spaces for women to see their gifts and honour their brilliance. Her online membership, Sacred, is her newest creation and is a container for women to root down and spread their wings.
Asha started a hands on healing practice combined with homeopathy, to support her clients to find balance and healing. She held this practice in her own home and this had a great impact to her energy and even though she deeply enjoyed the one on one interaction, she had to shift away from this practice. Asha turned to mentorship, that was what she always wanted for herself.
Asha started to hold Mentorship weekends that are made for practitioners and healers to work on themselves, specially in self compassion, in order to bring them back to their true selves. As part of the program, healers learn to first identify whose feelings they are experiencing and also work on strengthening their sacred “no”, considering learning how to set boundaries as the best act of self love.
The Sacred Membership online program just started a month ago but already has more than 200 people signed in. This sacred movement is directed to healers and caregivers, who need to work on themselves to put their message out in the world, by respecting their own cycles first and realizing they are enough, despite in which stage of the cycle they are in.

Today I am excited for this new addition to the Audacious Woman Series which has been focused on seven common imbalances in a woman’s body, and this time I will dive deep into our Thyroid. But before I go any further you need to know that I am not your practitioner, I don’t know you personally, and that is the reason why I can only share general information to keep your awareness up. Today I am going to take you on the journey of understanding the difference between PMS and PMDD, unfortunately, this is another subject in which we haven't got the proper education, and our girls are suffering due to this miseducation. I recently read a message that was supposed to be a little text for yourself in the morning that said something like this: “Dear beauty, I know today is the first day of your period but you are not meant to suffer.” So many of us have grown up believing that we are to dread our period, like some sort of curse and that it is impossible to not be moody and emotional, that our boobs are going to hurt and we will be crampy and in pain. These beliefs have only fed the disconnection from our bodies. Please listen: It does not have to be this way! That is why I am dedicating this episode to talking about PMS and PMDD, so you can tell the difference and have more tools to read the signs your body is giving you.

Today is actually an impromptu recording. I had another episode that was going to go live this week, but I just came out of being a guest expert inside one of my colleagues workshops that she was hosting. And I feel so riled up based on a lot of the questions and the concerns, the shares and honestly, the confusion that so many of the women had inside of this. We talked a lot today about perimenopause, around a lot of the confusion, thinking that your period has to change in order for perimenopause to even be something that has started to think that you have to have every single symptom under the sun in order to be in perimenopause. Believing the statistics that when we hear the average woman is 51 years old when she goes through menopause, that that means that you're only going to be around 50 when you go into perimenopause, because it only takes a year. I sat there and thought to myself, isn't it so wild how we live in a time right now where we have access to thousands of podcasts? I'm not the first one that you have listened to, and I definitely won't be the last one. We have access to hundreds of thousands of YouTube channels that we could tune into. We have Instagram. People were following Snap and TikTok and Facebook and blogs and email and you name it. And yet still we are confused, we are frustrated, and we are overwhelmed when it comes to understanding our own body.
