Every now and again, we manage to make a show that's both great (we remember to play new music) and terrible (missed queues, presenters not paying attention). Don't let that put you off, "fans" of the show will say that's what's best about the show. You can decide for yourself by pressing play and enjoying 117 minutes of top-draw community radio. 27 Jul 2020 | #205 Steve flies solo! (26th July 2020) | 01:57:03
That's right! For (hopefully) one week only, Steve ditches the deadweight and soars with a solo show. It's been a minute since he's been trusted to take the reins on his own so the pressure is always on when left to his own devices. As you expect with a 2hr show from Steve, it's got; - Instagram obsessions - Talk about 20 year old radio shows - Mindless rambling about songs that is low on facts He also announces the latest TNT Album Challenge! Get in touch if you wanna play along. Let us know if the show is any good. 22 Mar 2021 | #234 The Loft (21st March 2021) | 01:59:01
Around a year ago would have been the 50th anniversary of the David Mancuso throwing his 1st Love Saves The Day party at The Loft. It was the first show that fell foul of us not being allowed in the studio so it's been languishing on a HD for a year. Well, now is the time to enjoy it! Listen in wonder to tales from NYC. A fine mix of music is awaiting you. All you gotta do is press play! Get in touch nighttrain93.2[at]gmail[dot]com or https://www.twitter.com/RadioNightTrain on the tweets. 19 Apr 2020 | #191 feat. Alma's Hour of Power! (19th Apr 2020) | 01:56:47
We were kind temped to upload this before the show had even gone out. The concern was that it was break the space-time continuum. The downside of that woud be no more late night radio shows! Anyway, the new format rolls on. 2 blokes recording an hour of music in their spare rooms. This week, hour 1 is (sorta) picked by The Long Suffering Alma. If you enjoy the show, make sure you tell her the tunes were good. Hour 2 picked by Paul so it's the usual high standard. Remember! 07 Aug 2024 | #361 A Powlo Solo Show (4th August 2024) | 01:59:10
The music was good. The hosting was not. There's no hiding behind your co-host on a solo show, so a stinking hangover was not the optimum preparation for such an endeavour. I hung myself out to dry here, so tune in and revel in my struggles. I don't even mention the station name once! Incredible. But the music saves the day... A heap of fresh cuts from TNT's perennial favourite artists. Hot global grooves. Breakbeat psych. Deep 80s disco. A mini-set somewhat inspired by The Cramps. A reggae discomix. Acoustic-jazz-dub. A tribute to DJ Randall. A live bootleg. What more could you want??? 08 Apr 2020 | Bonus Episode Pt 1 - Blue Lines Anniversary | 00:58:14
Sitting in the sun today, listentening to a Horace Andy gig Manchester's Band on the Wall were streaming, we got to thinking about his relationship with Massive Attack. A quick look online and we saw that Blue Lines was released 19 years ago today!
Many moons ago, we made a tribute show that we thought was pretty good. Turns out, if you take away our chat, it was one of our best.
So today we're uploading it for your listening pleasure. It's a good 'un, even if we do say so ourselves.
We're doing it in two parts as it's in glorious 320kbps so will sound good in headphones and speakers.

Howdy folks. You’re in for a TREAT with this show. That’s because we sourced a SMOKIN’ guest mix of Colombian Heat from friend of the show, Phillie B. The rest of the show isn’t too shabby either, with a nice blend of old music, new music and some new old music. Best thing to do is get comfy, press play and enjoy with a bud.

08 Jun 2020 | #198 Rhythms of Resistance (7th June 2020) | 01:57:30
This week, more than ever, we have been watching the news, trying to work out what we can do with our platform. It’s only modest but staying silent in these times isn’t an option, so tonight’s show is going to be a bit different. Regular listeners will know that music from the African diaspora runs throughout this show. Whether it’s from the spirit of Congo Square, sound system culture of Jamaica, block parties of the south Bronx, the list could go on . For this show, we spoke even less than normal. We picked 2 hours of songs that speak to protest, struggle and change. Music to soundtrack reflection, rhythms of resistance. We’re not going to tell you what to do, that’s not our place. We’re still not 100% sure what to do ourselves. We just know that being quiet isn’t an option any more. Hopefully you’ll have a chance to meditate on the kind of change you want for the world. As always, we hope you enjoy the show. Paul & Steve
22 Aug 2022 | #285 "No vocals? Sounds rubbish" (21st August 2022) | 02:00:17
“Friend” of the show, Angela, has a fantastic description* about our show, she says “they always play weird stuff with no lyrics that people can’t sing along to”. Now, there is a slight degree of truth to this but also we don’t give her opinion much clout as she never listens to the show. This week, especially for her, the show has no vocals. None. It’s all instrumental. It’s a show she’d hate (if she ever listened). There is a reason for the theme, Steve explains it on the first link. 05 Nov 2024 | #370 - The Party Train - 9th Birthday (3rd Nov 2024) | 01:59:41
Alright folks? Hope you’re well. Hope your pets are doing OK. It’s Guy Fawkes Night here in England so that means plenty of fireworks. Not too dissimilar to our very first show 9 years ago. We thought for our birthday we’d play some normal music. Hits, some might say. And SPOILER ALERT no drones. We know, we’ve shocked ourselves. Have we sold out? Does it matter? Will a poppier sound make us more popular? Time will tell. For now, get onboard The Party Train and enjoy the ride. Choo Choo. 28 Feb 2022 | #269 All Roy Special - (27th Feb 2022) | 01:58:14
In many ways, this show is a good snapshot of the show in general... an in-joke that somehow or another, made it onto the airwaves. We've promised it for a while and here it is... our ROY SPECIAL! Enjoy the sounds of two presenters slowly losing their minds to the soundtrack of songs by, featuring, produced or about Roys. What is odd is that we managed to fill 2hrs with some varied music. What we also noticed is that a 2hr show is perhaps a bit much for one name.... Mornin' all. Back to 2018 for this "classic" episode. No show from us yesterday but we're aiming to be back this weekend with a special show. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ We often get told "the stuff you play is weird, play some normal music". Well, your prayers have been answered! This week we're playing nothin' but songs that have made it onto the UK Top 40. There's some listener suggestions (shout out to those that pay attention) and plenty of things we had no idea made it onto the hit parade. It’s hot. You don’t need us to tell you that. However, it does explain why this is a bit late getting uploaded. One of us is currently sweating in the attic, ripping songs for show 250, the other one of us is melting on the sofa with an overheating laptop cooking his legs. Anyway, enough about us, and more about the show! Plenty of stuff covered this week…. Footwork, drones, soul, dubstep, a few covers and even some new cuts! We also wrestle with the quandary… “is the show formulaic to the detriment of the quality and are we bothered enough to change it if it is?”. Will we find an answer this question? Time will tell. No show notes tonight, mainly as it’s too damn hot to listen back to the show again. If you want to know where to find something we’re waffling about, get in touch! 24 Oct 2021 | #255 Two idiots harping on (24th Oct 2021) | 01:56:31
Real mixed bag this week. We did some things right (confirmed the station, introduced ourselves, didn't leave delay on the tracks), we did some things wrong (goad the listeners, mispronounce artists, forget to mention last week). But looking past that, it was an otherwise great show. Where else can you hear music by 3 different harpists?!?* To experience the show (sorta) live n direct… tune into Sheffield Live, Sundays 9pm-11pm on 93.2FM, via the TuneIn Radio App or www.sheffieldlive.org. 22 Jul 2024 | #360 A Solo Steve Show (21st July 2024) | 02:00:45
Mornin’ all. Getting this upload into the feed as quick as possible as it’s going to be a busy week. Steve flew solo last night so took his laptop in and played a bunch of songs. It’s nothing too groundbreaking as it’s mainly songs we’ve played on the show before. They’re all killer though, so they demand repeat airing. There’s some guitars, the customary long-ish song to start the show and settle the nerves, some beats, some country and a few other genres thrown into the mix. It's the long over-due return of a guest mix on TNT! Can't remember when the last one was, possibly Steve's when he decided to do his own guest mix. Not sure that should count though. So for this proper mix, it's from our good friend, Figure Of Wax. A northern soul and an all-round party DJ. He's just started an excellent monthly radio show, Liner Notes, on Steam Radio outta MCR so thought it right for him to hawk his wares on our shambles of a show! The rest of the show is also great. To be honest, the only thing that lets it down is our links. In our defence we'd had a late night and it takes us time to recover. Kinda think they still sounded cohesive/funny. Finally! It's what the world has been waiting for... another "Best of" show from two chancers on Community Radio. It's been a strange year (we probably don't need to tell you that) so finding new music has been a bit different this year. We still managed to find some and cobbled together this show from our home studios (spare rooms). Hopefully we'll be back in 8 Wheels Studio for the 1st show of 2021. Remember! 11 May 2020 | #194 Steve flies solo! (10th May 2020) | 01:59:43
A rare solo outing for Steve this week as the chores at home meant Paul had to sit this one. Of course, this might mean that you're not into the show as you prefer his picks to Steve's... and that's fine. He's picked some stuff from old shows and plenty of stuff that's been kickin' around the "songsToBePlayed" folder. Due to the show being pre-recorded, there's no mention of folks that sadly passed towards the end of the week. Don't forget, if you want to get in toouch, hit us up on nighttrain93.2[at]gmail[dot]com or twitter.com/RadioNightTrain on the tweets. That being said, we can't leave you high and dry in tough times so we're be uploading "Classic Episodes" from the vaults.

08 May 2023 | #312 Steve Spins 45s (7th May 2023) | 01:59:52
The stage was set… it’s a Bank Holiday, next week is the latest instalment of HOTWAX at Hagglers Corner, so we might as well do a bit of cross-promotion. Alas, at the last minute something scuppered that plan so you lot get this instead… a hastily put together show of Steve spinnin’ his 45s. There’s a bit of thought put into it so it’s not a train wreck. As one regular listener put it “I'm marginally disappointed it's all gone so smoothly.” Quite. 30 Mar 2020 | #188 Lockdown Session 1 (29th Mar 2020) | 00:59:24
All aboard the Lockdown Session! Pre-recorded in Powlo's studio B (spare Bedroom), we power through an hour of killer afro/latin/funk/soul/psych/beats in an effort to keep on keepin' on....
In this show:
- Birthday cut from Brazilian legend Jorge Ben.
- Mini tribute mix of the late great Cameroonian Manu Dibango's music.
- Brand new releases from Quantic's Selva label and some fresh heat from Smoove on Wack Records.
- We dig back on the first Numero release.
- A heap of Powlo's dry solo chat.
- Most importantly, we speak to Herb Stevens in the isolation station on his Britney Spears headset and get the latest on his wheelie bin.
All this in under one hour... how is that possible? Tune in to find out!

It's pre-record BAU this week as Paul has returned from the west and Steve has returned from the east! There's no guest mix, the self indulgence was toned back so it's just 2 hours of great music, hot chat and a great mini-set of mid-2000s glitchy-electronica. Point of note this week, both of us have realised we can put a jazzy effect on the mic when we do our links. Pay close attention and see if you can notice. Full disclaimer, this does not enhance the standard of the waffle. Let us know if the show is any good. It was teased last week and this week we've done it. Sadly, while we were off the air for 6 weeks quite a few great artists died. We've taken this week to celebrate their work. Some of them get a song, some of them get a few songs. It's never enough but it's the best we can do. If you like any of the artists mentioned, we implore you to get into their back-catalogue and enjoy some fantastic music. Today has been a rollercoaster. We thought the 1st half of the show had been lost in the sands of time but Gregg, the IT Don at Sheffield Live, managed to delve into the mainframe and save it. We had thought that hour two contained some of our best live radio work for a while but perhaps that was only the case when the show was lost. Now we’re not so sure. What isn't in doubt is there is stellar musical selections. But that's the same every week. Afternoon all. Hope you're all well, had a good weekend. Here's the show from last night. After a couple of weeks without us, the demand for our unique style on the mic should be high. This week we play some records that don't really go well together and then some records that go really well together. 12 Sep 2022 | TNT Classic - #47 Lullabies to Paralyse: Original Soundtrack Special (27th Oct 2016) | 00:58:57
Once again, life has happened so we weren't able to do a show on Sunday. Not sure anyone is that bothered but for us, we really enjoy doing the show. So, instead of leaving the "fans" with nothing until next week, we're uploading a "classic" show. This is a solo outing from Powlo, from way back in 2016. "Fun" fact, this is what Steve has in his headphones when he's at the dentist getting work done. Hopefully, we'll be back next week with a new show. But to be honest, you'd be wise not to put money on it. Don't forget to get in touch to ask for a request or shout-out at; nighttrain93.2[at]gmail[dot]com or https://www.twitter.com/RadioNightTrain on the tweets. Especially wanna hear from you if you have a posse cut you need to hear. To experience the show live n direct.. tune into Sheffield Live, Sundays 9pm-11pm on 93.2FM, via the TuneIn Radio App or www.sheffieldlive.org As always, any spreading the word about what we do is appreciated (but unpaid). ____________________________________________ Powlo's one hour solo outing. Partly inspired by recent soundtrack releases such as Stranger Things and Max Richter's work on Black Mirror. Partly inspired by simply having a lot of sinister soundtrack lullabies to play on the show. It made sense to put it all together in one troublesome hour-long chat-free show. Lower the lights, reach for the headphones... ____________________________________________

We weren't able to do a show last night so we're delving into the archives for a "classic" show. This is way back when and features a guest mix from Danny Fitzgerald. Please be warned, there is a 2min silence in the middle. -------------------------------------- We've only gone and done it... while doing the show last night we thought of a way that we can give you show #94 with our talking! You thought (or hoped) it was lost but here it is... in all it's 128kbps glory! Press play and enjoy two hours of great music, but more importantly what Paul has declared our best ever guest mix from https://www.mixcloud.com/DannyFitzgerald/ Around either side of that the usual greatness picked by us. Last week’s show was pretty intense so as a counterpoint, this show isn’t. It’s got a few beats, a few funky jams but mainly it’s cuts that you’d expect in the final set of Hour 2. We like it, hopefully you will. It’s ok if you don’t. Music’s not for everyone. Hopefully back next week for a Solo Steve Show. He doesn’t know what he’s going to do. 04 Jan 2021 | #224 TNT Guest Mixes! (3rd Jan 2021) | 01:00:40
Happy New Year one and all! (Are we too far past 1st Jan to say that?). We hope you're all well and have had a safe festive period. Due to bad planning on our behalf, we didn't record in 8 Wheels Studio last week. Instead, what we've got for you is an hour of TNT mixes we've done for people! The 1st 30mins is our NYE mix for Chris Welch's Sounds Like This. The 2nd 30mins is an all soul 45s guest mix we did for A Casual Affair. We're planning on gettin' back behind the mic (and wheel) this week with a DOOM special. 16 Jan 2024 | #337 Small Records Vol 1 - Singles Night & Daptone (14th Jan 2024) | 01:59:20
Another week, another daft idea for a show... This week, it's the inaugural Small Records edition of The Night Train. From now on (or until we forget) every show that ends in a 7, we'll be playing 45s. It seemed like a good idea at the time. So for this edition, to kick things off in style, we dusted off the records we played at Singles Night, played a Daptone and affiliates set and then went back to back until the show finished. Hopefully, the next show will be a normal one. If only we had the power to make that happen.... We mentioned it a long time ago, now here it is! The inaugural TNT EP Special. All (well, most) songs on tonight's show were first available on an EP. We know what your'e thinking... "that's a ridiculous idea for a theme show, they've finally lost the plot". Well, in your face! We had quite a few suggestions for songs. Even better than that, the show seems to have a good flow to it! This week for reasons best known to himself, Steve decided to do ANOTHER solo show. Paul was on holiday (tune in next week to hear about that) so we couldn't leave you with nothing! It's a pretty normal affair until you make it to hour two... then Steve hands over the Sheffield Live airwaves to himself for a 30 minute guest mix of mean psychedelic-guitar-fuzz action. Sorry this upload is a day late... Steve's fancy new laptop has decided to break so it's take a minute to get an old one working for the listen-again crew. Let us know if the show is any good. “Wow, this show is well slick” we hear you say. That’s because it was a pre-record! It’s a return to the golden age of the Global Health Pandemic for this week as Paul had a early start on Monday and Steve had walked over 50km on Saturday and Sunday. Anyway, we don’t need your sympathy, we need your ears! The tunes this week were picked by Paul, a lot of them Steve hadn’t ever heard before. So it was kinda like there was at least one listener. A throwback to a show a few weeks ago where the roles were reversed. Back with a “bang” in 2022… it’s the first TNT of the year! Not content with struggling to make and do a normal show, we decided to do a Tip o’ The Hat to legendary bass player, Robbie Shakespeare! There’s a lot of music, sessions and tales to get into a 2 hour show and we will have done a terrible job. If there’s something we’ve missed off, please please please get in touch and we’ll play it on a future show! In the meantime, if you want a proper listen… cop this interview with Sly & Robbie on the Redbull Sofa…

07 Dec 2020 | Sounds Like This Vs The Night Train | 01:59:15
There weren't enough hours to get our show done last week, so we had a week off. Fear not Listen Again Crew, we've got you covered! We're giving you a chance to listen to our guest appearance on Sounds Like This with Chris Welch. Chris has been on Sheffield Live since the beginning. Which explains why he's a lot more polished than our shambles of a show. He's on air Sundays 5-7pm. on Sheffield Live. Now into its 13th year, the show covers the upfront and classic from soul to house to afro-latin tackle and everything in between! It's a staple in both our houses on a Sunday night. Perfect listening for when you're cooking. https://www.mixcloud.com/soundslikethisradio/ https://www.facebook.com/soundslikethisradio After a lot of big talk going back and forth between two of Sheffield Live's finest Sunday evening shows, we decided to mark 13 years of Sounds Like This and 5 years of The Night Train with a versus. Categories included: 'I cleared the floor with this but I stand by it' and 'Secret Weapon' amongst others. It was a lot of fun, arguably a score draw and no need for scuffles in the Paternoster Row car park to settle the debate.
08 Feb 2021 | #229 Donuts and '06 Dubstep (7th Feb 2021) | 01:57:30
Good Morning all you lovers of great music and hot chat. It's time for another edition of The Night Train. The other day we mentioned that we'd been doin' a lot of theme shows and this week is a 241! To celebrate 15 years since the release of J Dilla's "Donuts" and "Anti-War Dub by Digital Mystikz we've sprinkled some Dilla delights throughout the show and Powlo's dusted off his dubstep wax for a 30 minute 2006 rinseout. Remember! You can also get in touch to ask for request or shout-out at; nighttrain93.2[at]gmail[dot]com or https://www.twitter.com/RadioNightTrain on the tweets. A daytime upload? At this time of year, at this time of day, in this part of the country, localised entirely in your podcast feed? Sunday saw us spinnin’ small rekkids as it’s show #387. Made on the fly, we had a rough idea of what we wanted to play but with no real plan. We’re pretty pleased with the outcome. Apologies to the live listeners that had to endure technical gremlins. The strange thing about these pre-records is that technically, this file you're listening to has been "in the bag" since Saturday morning yet somehow Steve's only now gettin' around to uploading it. He's had ample time to get it uploaded yet it's still late in the day. Oh well. This week the mix is "new stuff from Paul and Steve accidentally plays 3 songs that he's heard on TV shows". This week in community radio... we mixed it up again! For no reason and completely unplanned, we both decided to do a bit of a theme hour. Hour one sees Paul dig into his extensive record collection to give an airing to the purchases he's managed to sneak past his better half. Hour two is a much more low-key affair with Steve playing downtempo music in the style of Kid Koala's "Music to Draw To" sessions. Hope you like it, don't let us know which hour you prefer as that'll make one of us upset. We managed it. The stars have aligned and what are about to listen to is the sound of two people bumbling their way through 120mins of community radio. Yes, as it’s a pre-record we could quite easily make it a slick affair. Also, we did edit it a bit. Can you imagine how bad the stuff was that we took out?!? Finally, a normal show! It feels like it's been forever. We don't do it on purpose, we promise. Back on the airwaves and Information Superhighway with show number 231. For unknown reasons*, there is no new music this week, just old music. But don't let that put you off. There's harps, early 90's break-beats, Brasilian breaks, hot chat and a few anniversary picks. So, so what'cha, what'cha, what'cha want? If it’s 3 guys talking triple trouble about an album released 30 years ago, press play, free your mind, it's time for good times. This week, we welcome aboard our first ever guest-host. It’s Coop from Mondo Bizarro. We’ve invited him on as a Beastie Boys expert to discuss Check Your Head, the album released 30 years ago. As you’d expect from a show we make, it’s thin on actual facts but if you listen, you get a real good feeling that you just can't lose. The good thing about having to go into the studio to play it out is that we both had to listen to it. So we don't feel bad about making you listen to it. So this show almost didn't happen. Paul has got Jumper's Knee so couldn't get into the studio. Steve could get into the studio and was gonna spin some tunes on the CDJs. Afternoon all! Hope you're all well. We're still ridin' on a high after last night's show. What we've got here is 120(ish) minutes of rockin' 45 action. Powlo did all the (meaningful) work on the night, which is fine as he has great records and knows how to DJ. Apologies on some of the levels, we tried to fix it as best as possible in post but ultimately, Steve should have been watching for any redlining. Instead he was vibin' out. So we'll blame him. The older we get, the harder it is to do a late-night radio show. Lawd knows how we used to do an 11pm-1am show on a weeknight. Madness. This week, Steve is flaggin’ a bit so we start well but it runs outta steam somewhat. Apologies. If someone could tell us the optimum time to have some caffeine that keeps us awake for the show but is over by 11:30, that’d be swell. So, this week, there’s has been a fair bit of fixing in post. Including one song that didn’t get played on the live show. #FakeNews. 16 Aug 2021 | TNT "Classic" #126 Kool Herc 45th Anniversary Block Party (26th August 2018) | 01:56:55
Mornin' all... No show again this week so we're back in the crates for another "classic" episode. We're scheduling this to drop on Monday so it may or may not work. ------------------------------------------ It maybe a little late, but here is my tribute show to the anniversary of the birth of hip-hop (11th August 1973). First hour contains twelve classic Kool Herc records that most likely would have been played out on that now seminal night. Second hour is a freestyle on-the-fly selection of classic breaks and some later 70s stuff, all on the turntables. Try to ignore any ropey live doubles/loops and low grade mic chat - I was very 'tired'. With Steve away on hols, attempting this solo was probably a daft (but fun) idea. If you like what you hear join us live (almost) every Sunday 9pm-11pm on SheffieldLive! 93.2fm, via the TuneIn Radio App or www.sheffieldlive.org Get in touch with requests, recommendations and guest mix inquiries! Sometimes, there are things we can fix in post. Sometimes, things are so bad there is no coming back. There are moments in this edition of TNT that are some of our worst for a while. Don’t let that put you off though, some say the show is best when it’s hanging on by a thread. Remember, you can join us live (almost) every Sunday 9pm-11pm on SheffieldLive! 93.2fm, via the TuneIn Radio App or www.sheffieldlive.org Get in touch with requests, recommendations and guest mix inquiries! https://www.instagram.com/radionighttrain/ https://bsky.app/profile/thenighttrain.co.uk We're also available for family functions, weddings, funerals, boat launches and more. 10 Apr 2023 | TNT "Classic" - #109 The Gospel Train Easter Special - (1st April 2018) | 01:58:44
Afternoon. There was a show last night but sometimes, radio should be ephemeral* so instead of posting that show, we've uploaded this "classic" show from the vaults** ----------------------------------------------------------- To celebrate the long weekend here in the UK, we've put together a special show that's bereft of secular music. It's often said that the devil has the best music, this show might just prove otherwise. In the words of Jessie Jackson, "on this program you will hear gospel, and rhythm and blues, and jazz. All those are just labels. We know that music is music" To experience the show live n direct.. tune into Sheffield Live, Sundays 9pm-11pm on 93.2FM, via the TuneIn Radio App or www.sheffieldlive.org https://www.twitter.com/RadioNightTrain ----------------------------------------------------------- *there were too many dodgy bits so we can't be bothered to fix them in post. **the external HD |
