11 Sep 2023Ads Are Getting Easier. Here’s Why.00:43:13

Today, I’m diving right into the recent evolution of Facebook and Instagram ads, with some practical solutions for today. The game changed drastically with the iOS 14 update, tweaking privacy settings and causing a seismic shift in all things ads. Costs surged for sign-ups and purchases, prompting some to question the efficacy of these channels.

Rather than throwing in the towel, I conducted experiments to uncover a surprisingly straightforward approach. No agency required. Now, I’m revealing the only two ad campaigns I run, and what I have my clients test for optimal results.

Note: Don't miss the live class on September 19th, where you'll learn the ins and outs of growing your audience by 1000 new leads without relying on reels, stories, or social media. Visit clairepells.com/1000 to secure your spot and take your advertising efforts to the next level.

This Week on the Get Paid Podcast:

* What it took to the changing advertising landscape

* The evolution of ads management and why that’s good news for small businesses

* Agencies vs. DIY and what makes the most sense now

* Simplifying tracking and targeting so anyone can do it

* What you should be testing in your ads, and no longer testing

* Enrollment in Absolute FB Ads - why to get in before October

07 Mar 2019Val Geisler: Selling Out a $5K Program by Getting Specific AF01:09:54

Val Geisler is a game-changer in the email marketing world. She is an email marketing conversion copywriter and strategist who brings massive value to her clients' businesses with her background in content development, digital strategy, and customer experience. With over a decade of experience working with 7-figure companies, non-profit organizations, and startups, Val has bridged the gap between customers and conversions that enabled her to work with renowned companies such as Beacon, AccessAlly, Women In Digital, and ConvertKit.

Val joins me today to share some of the most significant changes that has happened in her business and the turning point that made her realize she didn’t want to work full-time. She explains why she focuses her efforts on business-to-consumer (B2C) companies as well as why she believes in value-based pricing. She also discusses why not everyone should specialize in email marketing, when to hire a specialist, and how her specialization affected how she prices her services and filters potential clients.

“I’m not saying everyone should specialize in email, because I don’t think everyone should unless you care about it. But specializing has opened up so many opportunities for me that wouldn’t otherwise exist.” - Val Geisler

This Week on the Get Paid Podcast:

  • Why Val “left” her business in 2016 to work full-time with a small company and why she eventually decided to quit her full-time job to continue building her business.
  • The difference between horizontal and vertical specialization.
  • Why Val added a vertical specialization element to her business to help clients with onboarding and retention.
  • What customer churn is and what your goal as a business should be concerning your churn.
  • The steps she took to build her brand and name in email onboarding in less than a year.
  • Val’s current rates, expenses, and the services she offers.
  • Why she always starts with an ‘email marketing audit’ when working with new clients and how she vets new clients.
  • Why Val decided to host a paid email marketing workshop specifically for copywriters, how it led her to create the Email Marketing Masters incubator program and the benefits of each level of the program.
  • How specializing her products and services gave her the confidence to charge higher prices and the ability to sell out a $5k program.
  • Val’s projected total revenue for 2019.

29 Apr 2016Corbett Barr: Audience or Product First? 01:02:01

If you’ve listened to the show for any length of time, you know by now that I am a huge fan of Fizzle. Fizzle has literally helped me develop and grow my business from its inception. On today’s show, I had the opportunity to interview the CEO of Fizzle, Corbett Barr. Although I’ve heard his story about how Fizzle was developed several times before, I still had a few questions that I wanted to be answered. Listen as he shares his story, lessons that he has learned from a previously failing business, and how he used those experiences to make Fizzle the fabulous online community that it is today.

22 Apr 2021Sarah Von Bargen: 6-Figure Take Home Pay from $99 Live Courses01:26:25

Sarah Von Bargen is the founder of Yes and Yes, an online space dedicated to helping people spend their time, money, and energy on purpose. She teaches people how to navigate this stuff - money, habits, goals, happiness - because she doesn’t want you to waste months or years clipping coupons, starting and giving up on habits, or chasing the wrong goals, in the wrong way. She’s been writing about this for 11+ years and has since been able to help a lot of people.

Sarah’s experiences have helped her to effectively create helpful content for her courses, books, and one-on-one coaching. She brings some experience from years of being a classroom teacher, some from earning an M.A in Applied Linguistics (if you want to talk about neural pathways, brain plasticity, and impact of personal narrative, Sarah is the nerd for you!), but a lot of it comes from years of trial and error and lessons-learned-the hard way.

Sarah joins me today to share how her blogging and writing experiences paved the way to becoming an expert coach and consultant. She also shares how she attracts 150-300 guests in each of the live rounds of her programs, why she keeps her prices low (compared to so many others in the online business world), and how she pays herself more than $100,000 each year...

The Lead Lab: Get Paid to Grow Your List

This episode is sponsored by The Lead Lab, the program where I teach course creators and coaches how to get paid from their ads as quickly as humanly possible. I created The Lead Lab in response to the NEW reality of Facebook and Instagram ads. Once upon a time, it was relatively easy to spend a dollar and make 4 or 5 in return. But now that everyone and their mother have discovered the power of Facebook’s advertising algorithm, costs have gone up. That’s why I teach a straightforward strategy for recovering most if not all of your ad spend on your list-building ads. In other words? You get paid to grow your list.

To learn more, head over to clairepells.com/lab. If you’re running ads to grow your list, or planning to, come join us in The Lead Lab before you spend another dollar.

18 Jun 2020Me, My Money, and My Financial Upbringing00:36:57

What impact does your upbringing have on your relationship with money?

By the time you listen to this episode, I will have already begun maternity leave. With our second child on the horizon, my husband and I had been pondering an important question: What’s the best way to go about raising your kids when it comes to money?

Should you step back and let your kids figure things out for themselves? Or, is it better to set them up and help them with things like college and housing?

I didn’t become financially literate until I reached my thirties. When I was a child, my parents rarely discussed money and, even though we weren’t poor, I recall having a slight distaste for people that had an abundance of money.

Before listening to this podcast, please understand that I don’t have all the right answers when it comes to your kids and money. I merely wanted to add to the discussion by sharing my story and talking through my current thought process.

What are your views on the subject? I’m keen to find out. Feel free to publish them on social media and share with me.

05 Feb 2016The Fast Track to Revenue: 1-On-1 Work01:10:02

This week, Val and I talk about one-on-one work, and how this type of work can be very lucrative in the service providing industry. Many people don’t like one-on-one work – with very valid reasons. This working model can often make you feel drained – both emotionally and physically. So how do you do one-on-one work without leading to burnout? What ways can you make it work for you while improving your bottom line? How do you determine when to say “no” to a client? Should you raise your rates – and how? When should you ask your clients for feedback? We will discuss all of this and more in the show and hopefully give you a better perspective on how we handle this type of working model in our own businesses.

Eman Zabi started a copywriting business in the upstairs bedroom of her parents’ house in Qatar. Now the founder and copywriter behind The Scribesmith, Eman and her team work with entrepreneurs launching courses and membership platforms.

09 Apr 20203 Weeks to Earning $10K from a $99 Workshop00:53:23

In early March, 2020, I was scared. 3 months away from maternity leave, coronavirus started rocking our worlds...and seriously hurting my sales funnel.

After a few days of panicking, I came up with an idea I hoped would bring in a $2,000-$3,000 cash injection into the business.. Less than a month later, I’ve earned more than $10,000 IN CASH and expect to more than double that before this baby comes.

I recorded this podcast episode to give you all the details of how I came up with the idea for a $99 live workshop, everything I did to sell it, and what’s coming next.

If you need to make some fast money, don’t miss this episode.

19 Dec 2019Erika Lyremark: Business Lessons from Stripping01:01:51

Erika is the mastermind behind DailyWhip, where she dishes out business advice for bold women.

Showing early entrepreneurial skills when she let her brother throw a pie in her face for $5, Erika wheeled and dealed her way through high-school, earned degrees in Women Studies and Apparel Design, spent 9 years swinging around a stripper pole, went on to co-create a multi-million dollar commercial real estate investment company, and now helps women create, sell, and market their products & services.

Erika documented her experiences in her best-selling book Think Like A Stripper, lauded by Dan Pink as “a smart and provocative read”, while Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran says “Erika will not only whip you into shape with her wit, humor, and no-nonsense advice but show you how to bounce back from failure and become the confident sales superstar you’re meant to be.”

This week on the Get Paid Podcast, Erika joins us to chat about how being a stripper shaped her brand, channeling confidence, and leaning into her provocative side through her business.

“People aren't really bringing their brilliance to the table. So many internet marketers and internet gurus and coaches treat people like they're stupid. Because when you treat people like they're stupid, it scares them and they’re hooked on you”

27 Jun 2024Internal Debate: Did I make a Huge Business Mistake?00:43:43

I’ve made a lot of decisions in my business that, upon reflection, I’m not always sure I’d do again.

But, this particular choice really has me thinking. It might be one of my biggest regrets.

That is…raising my prices too soon.

It's not necessarily the choice, but the hastiness and motivation behind price changes. The lesson here is to discern whether you're actually initiating a new strategy or reacting to your unresolved money and selling fears.

It was a combination for me. So, I’m laying it all out there today to tell you my exact thoughts, as of today, and what I plan on doing going forward.

  • The original pricing of Absolute FB Ads and why it was so low

  • Why I went through so many price points and what I think about it now

11 Jun 2020Mindset Shift: What I’m Focused On Growing (It’s No Longer Revenue)00:21:12

What figure comes to mind when you think about growing your business? The number most people talk about is revenue. And, when you’re focused on growing revenue, this is what drives the business decisions you make.

During my last launch, however, I had an epiphany. There I was, getting ready to sell a valuable course on evergreen with a low price offering of around $300. If I sold 100, that would make me $30,000 – which is nothing to sneeze at, right? But then I thought about my mentors and the people that I respect (such as the many fabulous guests we have on this show). They’d be quick to tell me “don’t sell anything for less than $5k.”

This made me question myself: what am I doing launching a course that’s selling for $300? If I want to go from a $300k business to a $500k business, an extra $30k barely moves the needle.

But, should revenue growth be the most important driver in my business? I thought long and hard about it. And, when I considered what’s really important to me and my family, I had a great epiphany that led to this mindset shift. I’ll be sharing all the details with you in this episode.

28 May 2020Launch Debrief: The Chillest Launch I've Ever Done00:42:00

Want to know how to make money fast?

Following on from the success of my $99 live workshops and given that I’m in the last stretch before my maternity leave, I decided to do a “quick and dirty” launch.

Workshop Magic was born and, even though I whipped it up in a relatively short space of time, it ended up being an incredibly successful launch, netting me almost $20k. In this episode I wanted to share everything from the creative process, launch strategies, sales strategies, the emails I sent, and all the juicy details in between that made it a success.

Making money doesn’t always have to be a long-winded process. Sometimes you just have to capitalize on an opportunity and act fast.

All of her business ideas were born out of her tenure-track years teaching adults online at a community college, the ridiculous amount of learning she's done in all things education, and the years spent growing her course creation business online.

240+ Precise Interests You Can Use In Your Targeting

Today's episode is brought to you by a Google spreadsheet. People tell me all the time that choosing Facebook and Instagram ad targeting makes them want to throw their computer out the window, and I don't blame them. There are a ton of options, and that makes it easy for you to flush money down the Zuckerberg drain. So, I put together a big old list of what Facebook calls ‘Interests’ for you and a totally free spreadsheet separated out by niche. I also created a short PDF that explains how to go about using those interests so you don't waste a ton of time putting together your audience.

25 Jun 20207 Skills Online Business Owners Need To Succeed00:29:59

If you’re someone who’s putting yourself out there, creating a personal brand, and connecting with potential customers, you’re going to find this episode particularly interesting.

I’ll be going through the 7 key skills that I think are essential if you want to set your business up for success. Here’s a quick summary:

  1. Be remarkable: You have to be compelling, interesting, and stand out from the crowd.

  1. Be able to sell: I used to get scared when it came to asking for a sale. Things were awkward and it took time to get comfortable with it.

  1. Write things that move people to take action: It doesn’t matter whether it’s social media posts, video scripts, or emails, the words you write have to motivate the reader to take the action you want them to take.

  1. Be comfortable out in public: When a big opportunity comes along, you want to already be comfortable talking to others about your profession.

  1. Tune out the noise and keep trying new things: It doesn’t matter if the noise is from those around you or your own “inner voice.” You need to learn to stay focused on what matters.

  1. Be willing and interested in doing mindset work: It took me nearly four years of being in business, but when I finally met with a mindset coach I realized what I’d been missing out on.

  1. Have a willingness to be coached: Even though I figured a lot of things out on my own, opening myself to the idea of being coached helped to scale my business and fast-track my success.

While not everyone’s situation is the same, I believe these are the seven things you need to maximize your chances of being successful.

Do you agree with my list or are there some things you would change? After listening to the episode, please feel free to publish your list on social media and share the link with me.

24 Oct 2019Brittany Berger: When Productivity Is Unhealthy01:07:05

Brittany Berger is a content marketing consultant and the founder of WorkBrighter.co, a digital media company that helps productive unicorns go beyond working smarter to a version of productivity that makes room for “unproductive” things like rest, self-care, and fun.

She started Work Brighter after 5 years of running content marketing in high-stress startups that prioritized hustle, growth, and scaling over self-care and mental health. Now that she's changed her own mindset, she spends her time helping other high achievers define balance for themselves, advocating for mental health awareness, and dancing...always dancing.

This week on the Get Paid Podcast Brittany joins us to chat about why an obsession with productivity can be unhealthy, why you need to create less content, and why she’s planning on hiring a CEO as her business grows.

“We can create much less content and our audience wouldn’t even notice. We're still talking to them. We're still engaging with them. We're just re-using content instead of just pushing it out there and forgetting about it afterwards.”

07 Apr 2016Chris Guillebeau on Book Publishing Myths and "Born for This"00:31:15

Book publishing has become a market that is sometimes overlooked. Many people believe the misconception that book publishing is simply not very profitable – not to mention a lot of work! This lead me to wonder exactly how much work is involved in writing and publishing a book and how much can an author make?

I sat down with Chris Guillebeau and asked him some hard questions about his business. He shared with me how he gets paid through multiple streams of income, attributing 50% of his income to writing and publishing books. He explains what he does during the pre-launch period of publishing his books as well as how book tours can help authors improve audience awareness and increase sales. I also get a sneak-peek explanation about his newly released book: Born For This.

29 Jul 2015Ellen Ercolini: $99K with 1-on-1 Coaching (GPP09)01:21:22

How do you (nearly) crack the 6-figure mark with one-one-one coaching WITHOUT burning yourself out?

-- Why a poppin’ paypal account may not be enough to rent an apartment as an entrepreneur.

-- Details about the one service Ellen has landed on that’s perfect for both her and her clients.

I even had the opportunity to go from student to teacher and give Jessica my advice on what she could be doing to grow She Podcasts, and what I think she should stop spinning her wheels on.
