15 Mar 2022 | #152 Deconstructing The Beauty Industry with Jessica DeFino | 01:14:46
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but how much of our perception of what we perceive as 'beautiful' is being prescribed, moulded, and manipulated through marketing campaigns and products? What if beauty brands were regulated by a set of ethical standards that didn't allow them to prey on our insecurities to sell their products? Let's be real, beauty brands have a vested interest in you not feeling good about yourself, in you wanting to change something about your appearance or enhance your features; It's how they sell their products.
We're exploring all these topics and more today on the podcast, as Tahnee chats with prolific beauty industry journalist and author of The Unpublishable, Jessica DeFino. You may have read some of Jessica's articles in Vogue, Harper's BAZAAR, Allure, The New York Times, Elle, Cosmopolitan, or Marie Claire. Jessica has earned herself a reputation for debunking marketing myths, exposing the ugly truths behind beauty product ingredient lists, and as the HuffPost once put it, "basically giving the middle finger to the entire beauty industry". We love Jess for this and are so excited to share this podcast with you.
In this episode, Tahnee and Jessica deconstruct the beauty industry as we currently know it. The insidious impact patriarchy, white supremacy, colonialism, and capitalism have on the industry, how things like colourism, sexism, and ageism are enforced constantly through marketing campaigns, the ethical dilemma of dermatologists offering (and often suggesting) aesthetic cosmetic procedures like Botox and fillers, the role of self-care as we age, and so much more. Most importantly, Jessica talks about the power individual behaviours have when it comes to shaping culture and the future of beauty culture for the better. Jessica also breaks down how and why we need to stop participating in this psychologically damaging industry that is the root cause of so many physiological and psychological disorders. There is so much in this episode; Jessica inspires transparency, truth, and the kind of beauty that can only come from within.
Host and Guest discuss: -Botox. -Topical steroids. -Filter vs. Reality. -Psychodermatology. -The Skin/Brain connection. -How meditation benefits the Skin barrier. -The ploy of 'community' used in branding. -The problem with the clean beauty industry. -Jess's natural skincare routine and suggestions. -The culture of consumerism and the beauty industry. -Performative beauty masquerading as empowerment. -Self Care; What It Means and How It Changes As We Age. -Racism, colourism, sexism and ageism in the beauty industry. -The Kardashian's, and the beauty standards they perpetuate. -The most pressing health issue in beauty is the psychological harm of beauty standards.

24 Jul 2023 | #197 Vedic Healing with Dylan Smith | 01:07:27
Dylan Smith of Vital Veda joins Mason on the show today for an expansive conversation around the Vedic sciences, and how to use the natural lores on which these were founded to formulate your life from a place of flow rather than friction. Dylan is certified Ayurvedic Practitioner and holistic health educator who uses the vast depth and breadth of his knowledge to help, to heal and to teach. Drawn to the craft through his own initiating experiences of Panchakarma, Dylan's path is one of well trodden embodiment. Dylan unfurls his knowledge and wisdom in a gentle and considered way, sharing how the practical application of this ancient philosophy can assist in the very tangible material decisions one is required to make in their every day life, such as where to live, where to work, how to eat, when to evolve a relationship and more. In Ayurveda it is said that the number one quality for successful healing is to surrender to the hands of the healer; the physician. Dylan shares the concept of hasta vasti; the power of the hand that heals, explaining that it is not so much the herb or the method that elicits the medicine but the that hand it comes from. In a contemporary climate where regulators and governing bodies have the dominion to inhibit and repossess the credentials of a practitioner based solely on their capacity to concede to the law and order of obligation, what is left for the sovereign individual in which these choices don't align? The hands the heal. What Dylan is speaking to through the lens of hasta vasti is the inherent power of the healers touch, the aura, the energy, life force, Prana, Qi or seeming magic that works through the body of the practitioner as a conduit of harmony. When the apparatus is taken away and the herbs held hostage to capitalistic greed, what's left over is the craft, the heightened sensory system, trained meticulously to perceive, to feel, to hear and to know. There is so much potency in this, this is nature based wisdom, universal to all beings. The hands of the healer could be the hands of the practitioner you hold dearly in esteem, these hands could also belong to you, perhaps the most powerful healer of all; the self. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation, may it bring inspiration and insight.
Dylan & Mason discuss: - How to use the Veda's to manufacture your life in alignment with the universal flow. - Vedic Astrology. - Yin and Yang through the Vedic lens, and how this philosophy can be applied to the practicalities of being and doing. - The inception of Ayurveda and Chinese medicine into Western allopathic medicine. - The future of holistic health practice beyond regulation. - Dhanvantari and initiation of the Ayurvedic healer. - The guru/disciple relationship. - Karma and trust as key elements in healing. - Jyotish herbology.

26 Apr 2022 | #158 Stop Taking Vitamin C, D and Iron with Dan Sipple | 01:12:40
We're discussing metabolic health, metabolic healing, the kinship of different nutrients and minerals, and how an imbalance of certain nutrients and minerals such as copper, zinc, iron, and magnesium are at the root cause of a range of health conditions becoming prevalent in society. In pursuit of health and healing, most people, at some point in their life, have been told by a doctor or healthcare practitioner that they need to take Vitamin C, D, and Iron supplements to bring their body back into a state of harmony. At some point in their life, many women will also be told they are anaemic. In this episode, Dan breaks down how and why many people who have been diagnosed as anaemic are actually not, and how downsizing the number of synthetic supplements you take daily (a less is more approach)- could be the missing link in achieving health harmony. Dan discusses his health journey finding out he was copper anaemic, which lead him to researching the relationship between ceruloplasmin production, copper deficiency, tissue-stored iron, retinol, D3, and whole-food vitamin C. We love having Dan frequent the SuperFeast pod; his non-dogmatic approach and devotion to upgrading his knowledge in health and vitality keep us inspired and on point. 21 Jun 2022 | #166 Jing: The Source Of Core Energy with Mason Taylor | 00:31:39
If there is one thing the western lifestyle is exceptional at cultivating- it's EXCESS ... The fast pace, busy busy busy, high-stress western lifestyles many of us live has us on the hamster wheel of always 'doing' and simultaneously always trying to cope with how much we're doing. In an attempt to handle (or survive) these obligatory motions of the daily grind, we reach for our beloved vices- coffee, sugar, meditation, alcohol, exercise, sex, Netflix, shopping, doom scrolling (you get the picture) to alleviate the stress and lighten the load. The more stressed we are, the more we tend to reach for a vice in an attempt to cope. Not such a bad thing if your 'vice' is conducive to good health- but for many, it tends to be the quick fix, like a coffee at 7:30, on route to school drop then work, while you mull over your endless 'to-do list in your head. Coffee is in the top ten most consumed legal addictive stimulants globally- humans LOVE to consume coffee. Sadly, our Kidneys and adrenals do not. Caffeine, alcohol, and a high-stress lifestyle, all excessively deplete our core energy- our Jing essence, which is stored within the Kidneys. The amount of Jing energy one has stored in their Kidneys is indicative of; Lifespan, immune system, and ability to cope with stress without reaching for a stimulant. Enter 30 Days of JING. As many of our SuperFeast community know, The 30 days of JING Challenge is an annual opportunity to get off the stimulants and rejuvenate kidney and adrenal essence so you can begin regaining the zest in your step that was so familiar in our youth. In today's episode, Mason discusses his personal story with the Jing herbs (how they changed his life) and how the 30 days of JING challenge can transform your month, year, and (as an annual event)-the trajectory of your life. Mason dives deep into the dark waters of Kidney energy from a Taoist perspective and explains why 30 Days of JING, more than quitting coffee, is about creating an intention that will deepen our relationship with ourselves and our Jing essences through foundational lifestyle practices.
Mason discusses: -What is Jing essence? -Addiction and excess. -What are the Jing Herbs? -The Kidney's and Jing essence. -Yin and Yang transformation in the body. -How to protect and cultivate Jing essence? -Setting an intention for the 30 days of JING. -Diving into the darkness of our Kidney essence. -Creating rhythms in our life that create automated flow. -How does 30 days of JING improve longevity and vitality?

12 Apr 2022 | #156 Autumn: The Metal Element, Lungs and Nature with Tahnee and Mason | 00:34:02
It's time again for us to tune into the elements, our bodies, and the soothing subtle shifts occurring around us in nature; here in the Southern Hemisphere, we have entered into Autumn. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Autumn is the season of the Metal Element. As we come down from the energised Yang energy of warmer months into the Yin, we naturally find ourselves slowing down and going within. It is a time for introspection, reflection, and letting go of anything mentally, emotionally, or physically that no longer serves us. The Lungs and Large Intestine are the organs associated with the Metal Element. The Lungs, also known as the Seat Of Wisdom, play a vital role in the natural process of fortifying surface immunity (protective Wei Qi), strengthening Qi and our overall immune system. The Lungs also purify; The fresh Autumn air is inhaled and processed into True Human Qi, which is then carried throughout the body and distilled down to the Kidneys. This beautiful flow of transformation and distillation is why it's a good practice to take nourishing Yin herbs that keep the Lungs moisturised and protect the chest area from the cool, drying Autumn air. The Large intestines release toxins and waste from the body that is no longer required. Mason Taylor:
Tahnee and Mason discuss the herbs, practices, and emotions of this season, why breathwork practices are essential in this season and the importance of reflecting on the movements of nature with early bed, early rising, and lots of rest.
Mason and Tahnee discuss: -Lung Foods. -Qi and Lung herbs. -Surface immunity and Wei Qi. -Convalescing foods for Autumn. -The energy of Lung Metal season. -The emotions of Lung Metal season. -Exercises for Autumn and Lung energy. -Contraction and introspection in Autumn. -The relationship between the Lungs skin. -The Lung and Large Intestine relationship. -How to strengthen Qi and build immunity. -Breathing practices for Lung Metal season. -Connecting with the seasons through nature. -Honouring the transition of seasons for good immunity.

31 Aug 2021 | #131 How To Turn Your Immune System On with Dan Sipple | 01:14:04
We've been receiving loads of emails from our SuperFeast community wanting to know what they can do to turn their immune system on and keep it fortified. Recently Mason caught up with our favourite functional Naturopath, Dan Sipple, to discuss go-to herbs, minerals, foods, and lifestyle practices to increase the body's immunological capacity. Embodying health sovereignty in a time of COVID has become quite a contentious topic; Who would have thought that trusting the body's immune system could become so politicised? Regardless of how you sit with the whole vaccinated/unvaccinated approach to the virus, bolstering the immune system is something (hopefully) most of us can agree is essential. People are now thinking about their immune system in ways they never have before, and we are here to offer guidance in any way we can.
Imagine a society where mainstream consensus was to value and trust the body's natural immune system over pharmaceutical drugs. Imagine a world where superior herbs and medicinal mushrooms were mandated, subsidised, and heavily endorsed to keep us all thriving and truly living our best lives. To quote John Lenon 'imagine all the people living life in peace' (instead of fear); We are here for this vision. Tune in to hear Mason and Dan explore all the ways they would reinforce and support people's immune systems if they were to (hypothetically speaking) dictate all members of society take part in an Immune MAXzine. Where empowered sovereign health is the goal, and we live with reverence for Mother Nature's unassailable healing intelligence. This episode is packed full (and I mean full) of expert knowledge to have you feeling equipped and in an embodied state of health. We're advocating less divisiveness, more connection, and holistic health for everyone. Don't miss it.
Mason and Dan discuss: -What is immunity? -Microbiome analyses. -The skins microbiome. -Strengthening the Wei Qi shield. -Colostrum for the immune system. -Herbs for long-term immune regulation. -Dietary applications for the immune system. -Medicinal mushrooms for the immune system. -Arming the immune system in acute situations. -Astragalus for lung, spleen, and surface immunity. -The effects of stress and sleep on the immune system. -How the immune system is influenced by the microbiome. -What causes the immune system to become dysregulated? -Lifestyle practices to increase your immunological capacity.

16 Oct 2023 | #205 Sexuality & Endogenous Psychedelics with Dr Jenny Martin Part 1 | 01:04:53
Today on the show Mason is joined by Dr Jenny Martin to share a thought-provoking conversation around sexuality, the body's ability to manufacture DMT and other endogenous psychedelics, religion's influence on our relationship to sex, pleasure and wellbeing, and so much more! With a doctorate in psychology and a vast field of knowledge in the areas of female sexuality, consciousness, neuroscience, neuroplasticity, mind-body medicine, and the heart/brain connection, Dr. Jenny knows, from the inside out, just how powerful our body's apparatus can be, especially when we know how to use it! A passionate advocate for feminine pleasure and achieving flow states, joy and total transformation through the art (and science) of sacred sexuality, Dr. Jenny takes us on a journey through history, sharing how prevalent these practices have been for millennia within Christianity and many ancient cultures and schools of thought around the globe. Highlighting that the energetics of the masculine/feminine principle are intrinsic to life and our nature as human beings. Jenny speaks to the somewhat controversial concept that the original practice of Christianity was explored through the lens of sexuality, allowing us to entertain the notion that perhaps sexiness is next to godliness after all! In all seriousness though, what may be useful to consider in this particular context is the deeper meaning of the colloquial phrase, “cleanliness is next to godliness” If we delve a little deeper into the meaning of this concept what we're left with is the translation that keeping one's expression of life "clean" or more accurately, ordered, affords us a sense of ease through the application of balanced or measured action. We could also explore what cleanliness or order means in relationship to sexuality and through the lens of the masculine/feminine principle, which is what, at a foundational level, is being spoken of when exploring the potential to use sexual practice as a means to illicit the production of neurotransmitters and endogenous psychedelic substrates such as DMT and oxytocin. Compounds that enable us to cultivate harmony and health within the body and mind. How do we keep our expression of sexual energy “tidy” not in the inhibited or frigid sense but functionally, applied in the same manner as the master, with reverence and respect for its power and potential capability? Through the Taoist lens, sexual energy is synonymous with life force energy, so we can confidently hypothesis that the more we can optimise and utilise this currency of energy through application and practice, the more life or aliveness we can experience, hold and entertain. Dr Jenny and Mason only touched the tip of the iceberg in this explorative chat, join us for part two, coming soon.
Dr Jenny & Mason discuss: - Endogenous psychedelics. - Religion's influence on our relationship to sex, pleasure and well-being. - Sex as a way of invoking the divine. - The goddess archetype and the importance of integration when exploring sacred sexuality. - Near-death experiences and endogenous DMT. Female orgasm & the vagus nerve.

07 Dec 2020 | #97 Thriving Postpartum with Dr. Oscar Serrallach | 01:05:21
Tahnee is back on The Women's Series today for a moving conversation with Dr. Oscar Serrallach, author of The Postnatal Depletion Cure, Integrative GP specialising in women's postnatal health, and devoted father, working passionately to bring more focus on mothers postnatal health into the world. His project The Postnatal Depletion Cure has been inspired by witnessing/treating so many women with chronic postnatal depletion and the lack of awareness this dilemma has, both at a societal and medical level. Dr. Oscar believes mothers are the fabric of our society, and through supporting healthy mothers, we create a healthier world for everyone. This heart centred conversation is of relevance to everyone. The time to honour and support all mothers, including the great Mother Earth, is now. "We almost forget as a collective that there is no more important job than making another human being, and there is no more important job than teaching that human being how to love, that's a mother's job. As a father, I can teach my kids around the complexities of love, but the actual fundamentals, that starts in the womb and is learned early on, in that house of love".
Tahnee and Dr. Oscar discuss: -The often undervalued role of mothers; Mothers are the centre of society, and as a collective, it's everyone's responsibility to make sure they are well supported. -Motherhood in the 21st Century, how far have we fallen? Motherhood has shifted from being a role of central importance to a secondary thing that women add to their already busy lives. -Displaced badges of honour; the pressure put on mothers to get back to work instead of honouring and supporting the transition of the maiden to mother. -Brain changes women experience during a single pregnancy and how these fundamental changes relate to cultural beliefs around holding a mother in the postpartum period. -The importance of a postnatal care plan. What Dr. Oscar recommends and why. -The idea of the super mum; how this term can be detrimental to the health and well-being of mothers. -The essential role of the matriarch and the 'grandmother hypothesis'. Why the menopausal years are about giving back and passing on wisdom. -The increase in Postnatal Neuro Inflammatory Disorders (postpartum fatigue, postnatal depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder). What are the causes? How can we avoid them? -Autoimmune conditions during and post-pregnancy. -Harnessing the power of the placenta; how this amazing organ and subsequent pregnancies can provide an opportunity for healing the mother. -Nervous system practices to maintain and rebuild a mother's health.
Who is Dr. Oscar Serrallach? Dr. Oscar Serrallach graduated with a medical degree (MBChB) from the Auckland School of Medicine, New Zealand in 1996. He received his fellowship of Family Medicine and General Practice in 2008 and is currently completing a Fellowship in Nutritional and Environmental Medicine. He is the owner and principal doctor at the Mullumbimby Integrative Medical Centre based in Northern NSW Australia, which he has been running since 2011. Dr Serrallach is the author of the groundbreaking book for women The Postnatal Depletion Cure, a programme and book for women that bridges that gap in women’s postanal health, and has brought hope and healing to so many women suffering with postnatal depletion. Dr Oscar Serrallach is dedicated to remaining at the cutting edge of wellness healthcare and continues to advance and bring awareness to the field of women's postantal health.

Nicole's work focuses on changing the current narrative about C-sections, not to promote them like they're better or safer than vaginal birth, but rather something to be avoided where possible. Nicole also works passionately to bring awareness to the lack of preparation and follow-up care that would routinely happen with any other major surgery. Through her multi-layered healing programme (The C-Section Recovery Method), Nicole guides women back to a place of connection within their bodies on every level- physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Tahnee and Nicole discuss the untold realities of what happens during and after C-section, the trauma women carry (physically and emotionally) post-C-section, why women need to be advocates for themselves and the care they receive no matter how they birth, and so much more. Make sure you tune in for this beautiful, eye-opening conversation.
Tahnee and Nicole discuss:
-C-section trauma -What happens in a C-section? -Massage for C-section scarring. -Body acceptance post C-section. -Bacterial infections post C-section. -Urinary incontinence post C-section. -Subsequent pregnancies and VBAC. -Healing the pelvic floor post C-section. -The damaging 'bounce back' ideology. -REST - why it's so important post ALL birth. -Dyspareunia (painful intercourse) post C-section. -The feeling of failure many women experience post C-section. -Corsets/belly binding - when and how we should be using them.

08 Aug 2022 | #173 The Pursuit Of Beauty Through the Taoist Lens with Mason | 01:06:28
Today on the podcast, we're talking about Beauty-in particular, beauty as it is understood and pursued through the Taoist lens. The Taoist embodiment of beauty could simply be summed up through the understanding that internal harmony is the key to external radiant beauty, and the preservation of youth. As within, so without. Our radiance- the quality of our skin, hair, eyes, nails, and how we hold ourselves physically, is an insightful indicator of our internal organ health. But what are the elements of this internal harmony that deliver sparkly eyes, healthy skin, glowing Shen, animated Qi, and well cultivated Jing? In conversation with Sophia, Mason discusses the ancient practices, tonic herbs, and Taoist wisdom available to us in our pursuit of beauty through the many seasons of life. Rather than forming an unhealthy, unrealistic, obsessive relationship with beauty- this ancient ark of knowledge passed down from the Taoist immortals will keep us in an embodied, balanced, holistic pursuit of beauty- one that supports the cultivation of us evolving into graceful, wise, Shen-filled elders. Mason also goes through the beauty-focused, single tonic herbs and tonic blends within the SuperFeast range- explaining why we love to use them and how they deliver external radiant beauty; from within. This conversation is a beautiful Yin/Yang dialogue between Sophia and Mason, with many pearls of beauty-wisdom, both practical and esoteric. Make sure you scroll down to see the many topics discussed in this episode.
"As we go along, we need this barometer to ensure the body is being preserved enough. Do we have enough juice, enough sexual juices- enough Yin essence to ensure we can go through these graduation cycles and evolve into truly beautiful elders"? - Mason Taylor Mason and Sophia discuss: - Ageless beauty. - Blood and beauty - Spleen and beauty. - Fertility and beauty. - Shen is radiant beauty. - Preservation of Yin Jing. - Schisandra for hair health. - Beauty and Shen development. - Herbs that regulate the Liver system. - The preservation of health as beauty. - Signs that your youth/health is deteriorating. - Lung function, Qi cultivation and beautiful skin. - Chi Nei Tsang for healthy organs and radiant beauty. - SuperFeast herbs that support the embodiment of beauty. - Why the Liver health is a critical key to embodying beauty.

07 Sep 2021 | #132 Mindful Travel with Nina Karnikowski | 01:12:30
Travel writer and author Nina Karnikowski is putting a new lens on the way we view travel. In her recent sustainable travel handbook, Go Lightly- How to travel without hurting the planet, Karnikowski urges the reader to forget the bucket list and replace it with an itinerary that's more about connection. Connection to the lands we visit and the cultures native to them. Connection to the impact that our travel is having on local economies; 95% of travel dollars get funneled out of the destinations we visit (a term called 'leakage' in the travel industry). Connection to the languages spoken by the artisans that whittle and weave crafts to feed their families. And more connection to the idea of sustainable travel, which means doing a lot less and making our actions count in every possible.
For many of us, venturing overseas to explore far-off corners of the globe is something of a right of passage into early adulthood, and for some, a way of life. But as Karnikowski states, 'the staggering reality is, that only 6% of the world's population have ever even set foot on a plane'. This statistic really puts the idea of privilege into perspective, and as the adage goes, 'with great privilege comes great responsibility. Working as a travel writer for over a decade, traveling to some of the world's most remote destinations, Karnikowski has seen firsthand the destructive side of global travel. In this chat with Tahnee, Nina offers soulful insights and practical notions of how we can not only leave a lighter footprint but maybe even leave a place better than we found it through regeneration and mindful reciprocity. This conversation will have you yearning for connection, inspire you to do better, and make you incredibly nostalgic for travel. Mostly, it will open your eyes to the many little things we can be doing to make a positive impact on the places we choose to travel and the type of memories we create.
Tahnee and Nina discuss: -The power of conversations. -How to travel more sustainably. -Leakage in the travel industry. -How to support local artisans. -The art to a good travel wardrobe. -The potency of a daily writing practise. -Over tourism; Thinking twice about geo-tagging. -Being more mindful of how we spend our travel dollars. -The negative impacts of tourism on local accommodation. -Slowing down and spending more time connecting to people and nature.

06 Nov 2023 | #208 Reviving Classical Acupuncture with Ann Cecil-Sterman | 01:04:17
We're in for a real treat today as we welcome author and doctor of classical Chinese Medicine, Ann Cecil-Sterman, on to the show. Ann is a passionate participant in the revival and preservation of the classical teaching's of acupuncture. In a societal landscape where this incredibly rich and time-honoured craft is continually being dried out and robbed of its innate magic and energetic intelligence, Ann's work is profoundly needed. Ann sheds light on the fact that even the term "Traditional," commonly used to describe this ancient practice (e.g. Traditional Chinese Medicine or TCM), is a relatively recent addition, tacked on to the modality by Chairman Mao at the time of its colonisation. Throughout this incredibly inspiring and thought provoking chat, the message we're continually left with is this; the core essence of Chinese medicine and acupuncture is derived from the concept of conservation, one that holds deep reverence for bodily energy as a finite resource. Listening to Ann share her profound wisdom with Mason is a genuine pleasure, offering a discourse that I hope all our listeners will savour and contemplate.
Ann & Mason discuss: - The historical emergence of classical acupuncture. - How the true practices of acupuncture and Chinese medicine have been diluted through colonisation. - Reducing degenerative disease with lifestyle medicine. - The connection between mental health and Kidney Essence. - Cold exposure through the lens of Chinese medicine. - The healing potential of warm water.

12 Jun 2023 | #194 Jing; The Pilot Light Of Potential with Mason Taylor | 00:36:32
In celebration of #30daysofJING; our annual soiree into the depths of Kidney Water and Jing Essence - the primordial lifeblood of our very existence - we're taking a trip down memory lane, showcasing an episode from the archives (EP#166), in which Mason, our favourite larrikin and main herbal man, passionately explores why something as simple as including Jing herbs into your daily diet, consecutively for 30 days, can create life changing results. In our modern landscape of living we're surrounded by the notion of *more, whether that's the desire for more money, more freedom, more rights, more comfort, more knowledge, intellect, a new car! Do we ever stop to think however, that the energy behind this messaging to strive for more, to consume or take, also requires us to give? The currency of that giving is funded by our bodily resources, it's the mental processing required to operate a computer program, app or smart phone, the physical strength it takes to carry the groceries to the car, to weed the garden, the agility to chase the grandkids around the park, to engage in a daily movement practice, the discipline required to keep up with personal admin, chores, the visceral material needed to be able to dream and vision, to create, prioritise, compartmentalise and execute. This giving currency is our Jing, our Kidney Qi, it's the innate stuff we're born with, passed on from our ancestors, from our mum and dad. Jing is the primal Essence of our life. Cultivation practices are essential if we are to adapt to and make the most of this wild and wonderful life, the more available potential we have stored, the more we're able to materialise, and by more I don't mean the physical accumulation of stuff, it's more capacity to face challenges with grace, more courage to fiercely love through our shared humanity, more emotional resilience so we can harvest knowledge from the experiences we encounter and transform it into wisdom that can be used to nurture, teach, influence and inform. The messages in Mason's words may have been transmitted many months ago but the potency still rings true, after all this wisdom is thousands of years old, and it's simple; embrace your cyclic nature, and that of the seasons, take good care of your body, mind and Spirit through appropriate thoughts and actions, and most of all, considerately nourish your Kidneys so you can hold your health in own hands and confidently lead yourself through your lived experience informed by your own personal flavour of sovereignty. A potent chat today; simple actions, powerful outcomes.
Mason explores: - What Jing Essence is at its core. - The quintessential Jing herbs of the Taoist tonic system. - The relationship between Jing Essence and the Kidney's. - The Yin/Yang transformation cycle. - How to protect and cultivate Jing essence. - Setting an intention for the 30 days of JING. - Addiction and excess in the western lifestyle - The deep recesses of Kidney Water. - Creating rhythms in our life that create automated flow. - How 30 days of JING can positively influence vitality and longevity.

29 May 2023 | #193 Cold Therapy & Breath Work with Benjamin Berry | 01:12:18
Benjamin Berry or Your Mate Benny as he's fondly known, joins Mason on the podcast today to chat about the medicinal value of functional breath work and cold therapy. Benny came into the global spotlight at the time of the infamous flooding that decimated much of the Northern Rivers landscape in 2022. As a civilian on the ground responding to the needs of his community, Benny's presence began permeating the wider populace via a series of Instagram posts calling for stronger government intervention, many of which received thousands if not millions of views. Throughout the flood relief effort, what Benny did was show us that with persistence, heart and authentic care; people power works. People can only be as powerful as they are adaptable, which leads us to the theme of today's episode; how the practices of breath work and cold exposure can create mental, physical and emotional resilience when applied appropriately. Throughout this conversation, we get a sense of just how potent the effects of these practices can be, especially when an individual is faced with a challenging situation. Benny carries a distinctly reassuring calm and grounded energy, one that is reinforced by the daily lifestyle habits he keeps and shares through his powerful work. Like any health-promoting protocol that rises to fame, there is plenty of misunderstanding and misinformation around the useful application of breath work and cold therapy, so it is a great pleasure to have Benny, one of the leading Australian advocates for these crafts, on the show today to graciously guide us through. Enjoy.
Benny & Mason discuss: - The role of community at times of big life transition. - Benny's involvement in the Northern Rivers 2022 flood relief effort. - The importance of using integrity when holding space in breath work ceremony, and how this influences positive outcomes. - The experiences that lead Benny to the work he offers today. - The difference between true ice bathing and cold immersion.

10 Feb 2019 | #18 Autoimmunity and Medicinal Mushrooms with Dan Sipple | 01:31:38
Autoimmunity (AI). You've heard it, but what is it? Today Mason is joined by SuperFeast fave naturopath, Dan Sipple to explore the beast that is autoimmunity and what factors play a role in autoimmune conditions. Perhaps the Western definition of AI is too cut and dry; the guys discuss the Eastern approaches and how the gut environment plays a key role (we've got two gut health podcasts Part One and Part Two, if you want to brush up on your gut health). This episode dives deeply into the ancient Daoism behind AI patterns and which tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms can help support the body during these times. If you're afflicted with an AI condition, this episode is for you.
"Autoimmunity is when the body is seemingly attacking itself" - Mason Taylor The guys discuss: -Suppression of autoimmune issues leads to significant illness later on -Treatment of autoimmunity from the Taoist perspective -Leaky gut (intestinal permeability) causes a barrage against your immune system - a significant initiating factor of AI -Pleghm, edema, heat toxicity, dampness, all AI symptoms; the TCM patterns -According to TCM, upright Qi is vital for immunity (astragalus for the win) -Yersinia enterocolitica -SuperFeast Chaga, Reishi and Astragalus, the top there immunity herbs -The tightening / tenseness within the body is exacerbating AI symptoms; must release the tension -There are hard coded AI genes, BUT environment / diet / movement / community / purpose / stress all affect their expression Cortisol Awakening Response (CAR) in the morning, helps determine the degree of autoimmune cells tagged in the thymus gland for destruction by your immune system. So if your CAR is flat lined (from smashing coffees, burning the candle at both ends, constant fight or flight / Yang state), cortisol production is low and you're more prone to unchecked destructive inflammation The traditional Western belief that high Th1 causes AI, is no longer relevant Those with AI - do not put chemicals on the skin, get in the sun, skin brush
Who is Dan Sipple? Dan is a also known as The Functional Naturopath who uses cutting-edge evidence-based medicine. Experienced in modalities such as herbal nutritional medicine, with a strong focus on environmental health and longevity, Dan has a wealth of knowledge in root-dysfunction health.
