06 May 2025 | 257. Exposing The Cholesterol Myth Doctors Won't Admit w/ Dr. Philip Ovadia | 01:32:28
🗞️ Newsletter — Reclaim Your Optimal health: https://www.paulsaladinomd.co/sign-up?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=DrOvadia--- --- ---Ever wonder why your LDL cholesterol might shoot up after you started eating healthier, cutting out seed oils and sugar, and your doctor freaked out? It's a common story, and the panic often misses the crucial context. In this conversation with Dr. Ovadia we dive deep into why that single LDL number doesn't tell the whole story about your heart disease risk. Because understanding your insulin sensitivity, inflammation levels, and even getting specific imaging like a CAC scan paints a far more accurate picture. So even the intense focus on lowering ApoB might be too simplistic, potentially overlooking the root causes of atherosclerosis and the significant downsides of certain medications. Hearing directly from a cardiothoracic surgeon who sees the consequences of system failures daily will honestly reveal highlights why a different approach, focused on metabolic health, is desperately needed. So if you've been scared by high cholesterol numbers despite feeling better than ever, this conversation provides critical insights and questions the conventional narrative.--- --- ---If you can't get fresh heart & liver in your diet, try our 100% grass-fed desiccated beef organs at Heart & Soil: https://shop.heartandsoil.co/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=DrOvadiaLooking for a healthy and delicious snack? His use of “doctor” or “Dr.” in relation to himself solely refers to that degree. Dr. Saladino is a licensed physician in California, but he no longer practices in any state and does not see patients so he can focus on educating people as a full time activity. This video is for general informational purposes only. It should not be used to self-diagnose and it is not a substitute for a medical exam, cure, treatment, diagnosis, and prescription or recommendation. It does not create a doctor-patient relationship between Dr. Saladino and you. You should not make any change in your health regimen or diet before first consulting a physician and obtaining a medical exam, diagnosis, and recommendation. Always seek the advice of a physician or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition.

14 May 2019 | Why everything you’ve been told about cholesterol is probably wrong! A conversation with Dave Feldman. | 02:10:25
If you are interested in lipids, you’ve probably heard of Dave Feldman and his work. If not, you’ve got some homework to do, and I think you’ll be amazed at what you find. Dave’s work can found at cholesterolcode.com where he details his multiple, meticulous self-experimental projects. Prior to cholesterol adventures Dave was a senior software scientist and an engineer. He brings this “out of the box” thinking to the world of medicine and we are all a better off for it.
He began a low-carb, high-fat diet in April 2015 and has since learned everything he could about it with special emphasis on cholesterol. He saw his own lipid numbers spike substantially after going on the diet and spotted a pattern in the lipid system that’s very similar to distributed objects in networks.
He’s since learned quite a bit on the subject both through research and experimentation which has revealed some very powerful data (see his Cholesterol Code series Part I, Part II, Part III, Part IV, and Part V). As of this writing, his “Extreme Drop” experiment has gotten the most attention (see infographic here, and do-it-yourself page here) where he induced a 73 point drop in my LDL-C and a 1115 point drop in my LDL-P.
In this show we discuss Dave’s recent talk at Keto Salt Lake which can be found on YouTube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZv00mMiB9M

12 Jul 2022 | 171. July 2022 Bloodwork Review! | 01:14:05
On today’s podcast, Paul reviews his most recent bloodwork, in detail, in comparison to his past blood work that was taken while eating a strictly carnivore diet. He touches on overall benefits of an animal based diet, and reiterates why “high” LDL cholesterol does not cause atherosclerosis. A note from Paul: Throughout my training and practice as a physician, I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. If you want to know how to live the most radical life possible I hope you’ll join me on this journey. Today on the podcast, Paul interviews Danica Patrick, an American former professional racing driver. She is the most successful woman in the history of American open-wheel car racing. In the interview, Danica opens up about her health journey from breast implants, to heavy metal toxicity, and what she is doing now to achieve optimal health in terms of food, mind, body, and spirit. 28 Sep 2020 | 72. Are Excess Polyunsaturated Fats (PUFAs) to blame for the epidemic of Chronic Diseases? With Chris Knobbe, MD | 01:59:02
Dr. Knobbe began his practice of ophthalmology in 1994, after completing his residency training at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, in Denver, Colorado, USA. He was certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1997 and has remained board-certified since then.
Eye physician and surgeon, Chris A. Knobbe, MD, had been in practice nearly 20 years when, in 2013, he asked himself the question, “Could macular degeneration be a ‘Westernized disease’? Could AMD be a disease that is the result of a Westernized diet?” That question would forever change his life.
The hypothesis that Dr. Knobbe would proffer holds that macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness in developed nations, is not only preventable, but treatable in the early to moderate stages, with an ancestral diet.

16 Jul 2021 | Controversial Thoughts: What I think about mushrooms, olive oil, and avocado oil | 00:15:11
Both plants and fungi are stuck in the ground and can't move and both have developed defense chemicals to protect themselves from predation. 99.5% of animals are edible Only 20-30% of plants are edible And only 20-30% of mushrooms are edible Listen to the video for more detailed information here but this is the take-away: mushrooms are survival food and I'm not convinced they have unique benefits we can't get from meat, organs, or other less toxic plant foods. Olive oil: tallow is better and most is rancid/tainted Same is true for Avocado oil. Tallow is better and contains uniquely valuable nutrients like stearic acid, fat soluble vitamins, and odd chain fatty acids. 18 Jun 2019 | Cow farts are killing the planet! Or are they? A Conversation with Peter Ballerstedt, PhD | 01:39:37
Peter Ballerstedt earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Georgia and his doctorate at the University of Kentucky. He was the forage extension specialist at Oregon State University from 1986 to 1992. He currently works in the forage seed industry. Peter’s personal experience has led him to re-examine human diet and health. What he has learned doesn’t agree with the advice given for the past several decades. This new understanding combined with his forage background has given him an increased passion for the key to true social, economic and ecological sustainability – ruminant animal production systems – the source of butter, red meat, and cheese! Peter has spoken at many different events in the US and internationally. Many of his presentations are available on YouTube (http://bit.ly/2JJDJpE). He blogs at “Grass Based Health” (http://bit.ly/2XaRdxv) and Facebook (http://bit.ly/2wsNBes), and posts to twitter and Instagram @GrassBased. 06 Aug 2019 | 6. Where the heck did these crazy nutritional guidelines come from, anyway? Revisionist history with Gary Fettke, MD | 01:33:47
Dr Gary Fettke is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He has a major interest in the preventative medicine and encourages his patients to lose weight before undergoing surgery. Although his speciality is surgery, Gary believes it is much better to help people avoid surgery by taking preventative measures, which often involves primarily altering the diet. He is an advocate of a Low Carbohydrate Healthy Fat (LCHF) lifestyle for the health benefits. He was “a fat kid” and has experienced ‘too many’ other health issues until changing his diet and lifestyle. He has concerns that as we get older the health systems will be under significant stress from financial and health burden aspects. It is simply unsustainable – a train crash in evolution. In recent years Gary has focussed on the role of diet in the development of diabetes, obesity and cancer. He has been speaking out internationally on the combined role of sugar, fructose, refined carbohydrates and polyunsaturated oils linking together to be behind inflammation and modern disease. Gary remains committed to understanding the central role of nutrition in everything ranging from our health issues to its role in influencing education, the environmental impact, economics, politics and belief systems. He has incurred the wrath of regulatory bodies for his stand on public health, but he and his wife, Belinda, remain active defending the benefits of low carb healthy fat living. Their ongoing work has uncovered the vested interests and ideologies shaping nutritional guidelines at an international level.

Brad Marshall is the author of the Blog Fire In A Bottle and the creator of The Croissant Diet. Mildly obsessed with food and its history, his work focuses on trying to place current ideas about diet, including keto and carnivore diets into the framework of traditional Dietary patterns.
Brad has a genetics degree from Cornell, a certificate from The French Culinary Institute, has studied cancer at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer center and worked as a programmer for the Berkeley Drosophila Genome Project. He spent the last 15 years raising rotationally grazed pastured pork on his farm in upstate New York while running a butcher shop, local food restaurant and USDA inspected meat processing facility.
Brad is also the founder of Firebrand Meats, which is dedicated to producing pork and poultry products that are low in Linoleic acid, the n6 polyunsaturated fat (PUFA) whose intake has seen a dramatic worldwide increase in the last century.

21 May 2021 | Controversial Thoughts: How broccoli could be bad for you | 00:16:47
What if vegetables aren’t good for you, after all? What if that spinach is causing your joint pain? What if that kale is causing your stomach issues? What if that broccoli is messing up your digestion and your thyroid? If you think about things from the perspective of plants, the idea of plant toxicity makes much more sense. Plants don’t want to be eaten, but they can’t run away like animals. This makes them very vulnerable to predation- thus, they have had to develop many defense chemicals.

11 Sep 2020 | Controversial Thoughts: What’s the deal with Stearic Acid- Magical or Hype? | 00:23:20
Stearic acid is an 18 carbon saturated fat that has intriguing effects on the human body. It's been shown to positively affect mitochondrial activity, and diets that are low in cause mitochondria to change activity and phenotype in negative ways. Mouse models of this fatty acid also suggest some profoundly powerful effects on glucose tolerance and visceral fat when compared to oleic acid (18C monounsaturated fat), and linoleic acid (18C polyunsaturated fat). I break it all down in this video and share my RBC fatty acid levels as well as a compelling n=1 case study of Emmy's weight loss with dietary shifts away toward more stearic acid and less linoleic acid.

11 Jan 2021 | 87. The Omega-6 Apocalypse, are seed oils to blame for diabetes, heart attacks, and chronic disease ? | 02:20:22
Knobbe would proffer holds that macular degeneration, which is the leading cause of irreversible vision loss and blindness in developed nations, is not only preventable but treatable in the early to moderate stages, with an ancestral diet.

I said COVID twice in the title, and vaccine once. I’m pretty sure this video will get censored!
Vaccine thoughts: Apparent benefits but many have side effects with the second dose.
I hope it’s safe for the sake of my parents...
I won’t get it because I’ve already had COVID, it was mild, and I am metabolically healthy…
Here’s hoping there’s not a vaccine mandate. I think that’s a bad idea…
Long COVID: Looks like dysautonomia, could there be an underlying immune component? I think so…
Autoimmune illnesses often respond to dietary changes like removing the most triggering foods… #theremembering

05 Oct 2020 | 73. How High Cholesterol Can Be Healthy, and Low Cholesterol Could be Harmful, with Dave Feldman. | 01:50:44
If you are interested in lipids, you’ve probably heard of Dave Feldman and his work. If not, you’ve got some homework to do, and I think you’ll be amazed at what you find. Dave’s work can be found at cholesterolcode.com where he details his multiple, meticulous self-experimental projects. Prior to cholesterol adventures Dave was a senior software scientist and an engineer. He brings this “out of the box” thinking to the world of medicine and we are all better off for it.
He began a low-carb, high-fat diet in April 2015 and has since learned everything he could about it with special emphasis on cholesterol. He saw his own lipid numbers spike substantially after going on the diet and spotted a pattern in the lipid system that’s very similar to distributed objects in networks.

Oooo guys! This is a good one, and it’s going to ruffle some keto-feathers…
There is a tendency within nutritional circles to fall prey to reductionist thinking…
We know sugar is bad, right? Therefore any foods (not matter how evolutionarily consistent) that contain sucrose, or the evil-fructose are bad for you, too, right?
Not so fast seabass!
These apparent evolutionary inconsistencies have always puzzled me and caused me to wonder about how foods like honey or fruit might be different than pure sucrose, or if your body’s response to fructose might be dependent on the food it’s in…
Imagine that! Food might actually be more complex than just calories, and macronutrients…
It might actually have different effects on your body when it’s a “whole” food like honey, or even sea salt vs refined sodium chloride…
Check out this week’s edition of Controversial Thoughts to journey with me down all of these rabbit holes…
I bet you will be surprised at what we find! Welcome to #theremembering

26 Feb 2021 | Controversial Thoughts: Should you include calcium on your Carnivore or Animal-Based diet? | 00:19:17
Short answer: yes!
Just because your blood calcium levels are within normal doesn’t mean you don’t need calcium in your diet.
How can you get this? If you tolerate dairy that’s a good option, but for most, I believe calcium from bones as MCHA (microcrystalline hydroxyapatite) is the best option.
That’s why we made our Bone Matrix supplement at Heart & Soil.
In this video, I discuss evidence for benefits of MCHA, if you should worry about calcium and heart attacks, and a bunch more.
Do you have a calcium source in your diet? If not, you need to check out this video and get your learn on!
For those wondering, the Hadza do eat the ends of bones from birds and small animals like Galagos, as well as breaking bones open to suck out the marrow. #theremembering

27 Dec 2023 | 243. Responding to Layne Norton on SEED OILS | 00:36:33
This episode is my response to Layne’s video about seed oils. Due to the pervasive mainstream support for seed oils, I believe it’s extremely important to shed some light on the hidden truth behind these oils. There is a lot of conflicting evidence on seed oils out there. Looking at the totality of the evidence can be very misleading, so we must look at the details. By thoroughly breaking down each trial from Layne’s video, we can see massive flaws in the methods and designs of each study. Trans fat consumption by the control group and multifactorial interventions in the experimental group were the primary confounding variables. In this video, Paul references several studies suggesting different ways in which seed oils are harmful to humans. He always appreciate differing views and these discussions because it’s how we all learn. He has hope that a respectful debate will happen in the future so that we can dive deeper into this important subject. He strongly believe that seed oils are evolutionarily inconsistent, these are not the fats that humans have evolved on. In fact, we have evolved by consuming ample amounts of animal fats, rich in saturated fats. Saturated fats have been shown to lower markers of heart disease and they are an amazing source of essential vitamins like A, D3, K2, E. It's always meat / organs / fruit / honey / raw dairy. This is an ANIMAL-BASED diet, and I believe this is the most optimal diet for humans on the planet. 02 Jul 2021 | 114. If our words can be censored are we really free? | 00:14:53
In this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts I wanted to rant a bit about freedom and censorship as we approach July 4th. According to Dr. Fauci, we can do whatever we want on the 4th of July if we are vaccinated, but does that mean we can talk about potential downsides of the vaccine? What about ivermectin? How about diet and nutrition and the role metabolic health plays in the course of COVID? Don't think so. Speaking too loudly about those things will get you censored on many platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube (props to Twitter for allowing much of this dialogue to happen). Who writes the community guidelines, anyway? And more importantly, who will write our history? Zuckerberg? Big pharma? I pray not! #theremembering
11 Jun 2021 | Controversial Thoughts: How Almond milk is harming you and your kids! | 00:15:18
Almond milk seems to be all the rage right now, but is this stuff really something we should be consuming or feeding to our children? Heck no! In this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts (the Friday installment of my podcast, Fundamental Health), I talk about the multiple reasons why nut milks are horrendous... Carrageenan (worsens diabetes?!) and oxalates are the two big issues I cover in this video, but there are many reasons to leave seeds (seeds, nuts, grain, legumes are all seeds!) out of your diet and go #AnimalBased." Notably, I don't even go into the fact that Almonds use a HUGE amount of water and are an abysmal way for us to use this resource in farming... And no, cows don't use a ton of water- those stats you've heard don't account for the rainwater that would have fallen on the land anyway. This is a post for another day! Leave out seeds, and leafy greens. Focus on animal organs and meat (@heartandsoilsupplements) and the least toxic plant foods, and thrive! #theremembering
05 Nov 2019 | 19. Can we live forever? A conversation about aging with David Sinclair PhD | 01:53:09
David A. Sinclair, Ph.D., A.O. is a Professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. He is best known for his work on understanding why we age and how to slow its effects. His research has been primarily focused on the sirtuins, protein-modifying enzymes that respond to changing NAD+ levels and to caloric restriction (CR) with associated interests in chromatin, energy metabolism, mitochondria, learning and memory, neurodegeneration, and cancer. The Sinclair lab was the first one to identify a role for NAD+ biosynthesis in regulation of lifespan and first showed that sirtuins are involved in CR in mammals. They first identified small molecules that activate SIRT1 such as resveratrol and studied how they improve metabolic function using a combination of genetic, enzymological, biophysical and pharmacological approaches. They recently showed that natural and synthetic activators require SIRT1 to mediate the in vivo effects in muscle and identified a structured activation domain. They demonstrated that miscommunication between the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes is a cause of age-related physiological decline and that relocalization of chromatin factors in response to DNA breaks may be a cause of aging.

03 Sep 2021 | Controversial Thoughts: What I think about cheat days! | 00:10:56
I am not a fan... Check out this week's Controversial Thoughts podcast to hear why... In short, I believe that framing "cheat food," (which is usually junk food, let's be honest) as a reward sabotages long term benefits from a species appropriate human diet = an #AnimalBased diet. Getting to eat the best foods on the planet (meat, organs, fruit. honey= the foods your ancestors have celebrated most for millions of years) is an abundant privilege, not something to be framed as a scarcity. Listen to the end to hear an incredible story about our Whole Package supplement from @heartandsoilsupplements. #theremembering
