The work becomes a quest for harmony, finding a dance of color, pattern, and texture within the chaos of material options. The transforming and evolving qualities of natural materials are embraced, and the use of discarded materials gives new life to that which has been cast aside. In 2015, Johnson founded Mixed Color, a textile studio in the Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York. Her studio produces original garments and creates embroidered pieces on vintage garments. As a teacher, Johnson also offers workshops in natural dyeing and embroidery. To not only educate others on these ancient skills but also share the methods of her own creative practice, she has created kits and booklets for students and DIY-ers. She works mostly with textiles - embroidery, natural dyes, and patchwork, but has been known to get down with some twigs, wood, and other natural materials. We are excited to share that Christi will be hosting a workshop with Earth Speak on November 13th, 2020, on Talismanic Embroidery - how to make your clothes magical. Luis was initiated into the wisdom of trauma through years of suffering. He learned that just as the body stores trauma, the body can release it. Also a musician and vocalist, Luis explores the nuances of androgyny, spirituality, and unorthodox male identity through his intuitive compositions and unique musical style. His upcoming record, Songs From the Land, is a beautiful tapestry of guitar-driven songs that express, quite intimately, Luis' healing journey through shamanism, sex, pain, & ecstatic joy. So on July 16th we held a live, online funeral to put DFB to rest. Me, my sister Lizzy (who started DFB with me back in 2015), the DFB team present and past, and several of our listeners all joined together to share how DFB has impacted our lives and to give gratitude to the experiences we’ve had because of this co-creation. This is a touching episode, and it marks the official ending of Dream Freedom Beauty before we completely metamorphosize and become something new. Whether you’re a relatively new listener or you’ve been here since the very beginning, I want to say thank you so much for being part of this community. It still blows my mind that the show has grown to an audience of thousands and made such beautiful impacts on people’s lives. She traveled throughout India living temple-to-temple and practicing yoga every day, so much of her childhood was steeped in spiritual activity... but she faced resistance when she fled to the United States with her family and had to acclimate to an entirely different worldview. Rohini began a deeper study of reiki, meditation, and ancient witchcraft, and it was along this path that she discovered the Akashic records and was called upon to access them. She took her learnings further and re-routed to allow herself to feel what everyone should feel when accessing and reading this incredible source: free, untethered to religion, unbridled by superficial expectations.
