13 Jun 2024 | Episode 26 - The Wild Side of Home Services Sales with Jeff Merkel | 00:17:32
Episode 26 - The Wild Side of Home Services Sales with Jeff Merkel What’s up everybody, I’m your host Drewbie Wilson and I’m back again, but this time teaming up with the one and only Jeff Merkle from Iconic Exteriors to recount a few wild sales encounters that are nothing short of epic. Imagine Vietnam War vets turning a quiet neighborhood into a flashback battleground, or being greeted by a homeowner in nothing but underwear and a hairless cat. It's just another day in the unpredictable world of home service sales, where the only certainty is the next crazy sales story you’ll encounter down the road. Jeff's background in the military definitely groomed him well for what he would experience in the industry. We'll reveal how attention to detail is the blueprint for building successful partnerships and driving business growth. And let's not forget the golden rule that fuels our hustle: call the damn leads! Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, this episode is your ticket to elevating your sales game while enjoying the wild ride that is the sales industry.
Key Moments: -Jeff’s tip of the iceberg, crazy sales stories. -The benefits to everyone when you simply just pay attention. -Always be thinking about ancillary sales…always. -How Jeff educates and helps the sales community.
Connect with JM: Jeff was born and raised in the Bay area of Northern california. At the age of 19 he joined the Marine Corps and was off to Southern california. Alas he did not see any kind of combat but very grateful that he got taught how to be a man from the United States Marine corps. After he got out he did some traveling around the country and ended up back in San Diego where he met his now wife. Well in San Diego working at a job fair he was recruited by an oil field company which brought him to Texas. In 2014 the oilfield fell out and he had to figure out how to provide for his now family. Got back into the garage door game and then started his own company in 2020. He tends to joke about quitting his job, starting a company, while his wife was going in for a C-section, during the pandemic, all in the same week. Iconic exteriors has been around since 2020 and has been flourishing ever since.

This episode also charts the transformative journey of a former pharmacy tech whose leap into real estate wholesaling was born from personal adversity and an ironclad drive to carve a new path. From there he learns the power of sales and communication. Later going into software sales for a large SAAS provider in the multifamily world. During this time he began to learn about real estate wholesaling and learned how to do deals every waking moment he had. McKlane eventually stumbled upon messy title deals and his passion for fixing them. This passion led to him finding enough deals and consistency that he was able to leave his job in May 2020. To date McKlane has taken part in over 250 transactions since he first started real estate. The majority of these deals have been messy title-type deals. He is currently fixing and flipping 2-3 houses per month and manages a portfolio value of $2MM+.

21 Mar 2024 | Episode 14 - Creating Strategy to Elevate Your Sales Game with Randy Goldbaum | 00:26:34
Episode 14 - Creating Strategy to Elevate Your Sales Game with Randy Goldbaum
Hey hey everybody, it’s your boy Drewbie again, back with another awesome guest and sales professional. This time, I’ve got my man Randy Goldbaum, Vice President of Egress Pros, to dive into his sales strategies to help you up your own game in sales. Randy begins by recounting a pivotal story where tenacity transformed a staunch rejection into a decades-long partnership. This chat is packed with insights on strategic planning, the finesse of pre-call preparation, and the subtle art of listening—key skills every salesperson needs to master. For those new to the sales scene, we offer practical advice on how to approach prospects effectively and the crucial role of asking pointed questions to reveal customer pain points and keep the conversation moving forward.
We also tackle the dynamics of managing a sales team, spotlighting how healthy competition can spur success without tipping into toxicity. Balancing work with family life, overcoming common sales objections, and navigating pitches when not all decision-makers are present are also on the table. As we wrap up, don't miss our exploration of the indispensable value of networking and how to leverage your sphere of influence, along with the reminder that the power to communicate your product's value starts with truly understanding it yourself. Key Moments: -The biggest lesson Randy learned from his crazy sales story. -The importance of listening more than you speak. -Practice, practice, practice! -How healthy competition can be a real motivator on a sales team. -Always be asking for the sale and Randy’s advice for those new to sales.
Connect with Randy: Randy Goldbaum is the Vice President of Egress Pros and the President of Affordable Egress. Randy joined his lifelong friend and founder of Egress Pros Glen Dauman to expand Egress Pros from the local market into a nationally recognized brand. Prior to joining Glen, Randy spent 30+ years in the confectionery industry and was an integral part of the successful growth of the company and creating national brand awareness. Randy has lived in Dix Hills, NY for the last 18 years with his wife Cristina of 24 years and their 3 daughters. Randy’s passions include working out, music, antiquing, and travel. Nothing is more important to Randy than family. Growing the Egress Pros brand has become personal to Randy. “It is amazing how many people are unaware of egress and the importance of egress for the safety of their families and our first responders” says Goldbaum. “House prices continue to rise. Since Covid many more children are moving home after college and many homes have extended family members living in their basements. This is a dangerous situation for both the people in the basements and our first responders.” Says Randy. Egress Saves Lives. One of Randy’s professional goals is to streamline the permit process so that families do not fear the town inspections and can install code compliant egress window system or basement walkout without fear of penalties. While building goodwill & brand awareness under the Egress Pros division, Affordable Egress is the dealership side of the company. Dealerships are available for business qualified applicates. Owning an Egress Pros dealership provides an opportunity to help the community while building your own business. We presently have dealership locations in VA & DC with other locations coming shortly.

We also touch on the scary transition from corporate careers to entrepreneurship, sharing personal stories of leaving behind high-paying jobs to pursue independent business ventures. After emergency surgery, and what some may call a miracle, Travis survived the accident. But not without a long road of recovery ahead, and a new outlook on life. “That moment in my life so many things changed. Not only my body, but I had a new appreciation for so many things in life, but most importantly, my health.” - Travis After Losing part of his left pectoral muscle in the accident, gaining muscle became a challenge. “Since I can’t build muscle in the lower region of my left pectoral, I’ve had to adapt most of my chest workouts. I also obtained a spinal injury due to the accident, but I have learned with proper movement that I can still achieve my gains and my fitness goals. ” Over the years, Travis has adapted his workout routines to accomplished his fitness goals, and in doing so, his journey through fitness has given him knowledge that he now hopes to share with others. Always striving to be the best and healthiest version of himself, in 2017 Travis decided to adopt a Vegan diet and lifestyle. “It was the best decision I could have ever made for my health. 13 Feb 2025 | Episode 59 - Sales vs. Marketing: Why They Need Each Other with Debra Bowers | 00:27:56
In this episode of Call The Damn Leads, Drewbie Wilson sits down with marketing and sales powerhouse Debra Bowers to unpack the age-old rivalry between sales and marketing. Debra, a veteran marketer with a strong sales background, shares her unique insights on why these two departments need to stop competing and start working together if they really want to drive results. From her unconventional ideas for getting past gatekeepers to the memorable sales and marketing analogy from Sam Adams founder Jim Cook, Debra’s stories and strategies are gold for anyone in sales, marketing, or running their own business. Episode Highlights🔥 Jim Cook’s Hilarious Sales vs. Marketing AnalogyDebra kicks things off with a funny and unforgettable story involving Jim Cook, founder of Sam Adams Beer. At a conference, Cook compared marketing and sales to, well…let’s just say it was an interesting analogy that involved the difference between “solo time” and “partner activities.” His message? Marketing is great for creating awareness, but if you want real connections and conversions, you need that personal touch from sales. It’s a reminder that sales and marketing aren’t rivals—they’re teammates working toward the same goal. 🤝 Sales and Marketing: A Powerful Team, Not AdversariesDebra breaks down why the tension between sales and marketing is so common—and totally unnecessary. Marketing may bring in the clicks, views, and engagements, but it’s sales that turns those interactions into actual revenue. By understanding and appreciating each other’s strengths, both teams can drive bigger results. Whether you’re a marketer who needs to understand the value of a sales conversation, or a salesperson who can learn to appreciate brand-building, Debra explains why collaboration is key. 🎨 Creativity in Sales: Debra’s Secret SuperpowerWith a background in both marketing and sales, Debra has mastered the art of creative problem-solving. When a sales rep at her company was struggling to get past a gatekeeper at a dentist’s office, she suggested sending a pizza delivery—complete with custom messages tied to the toppings. That outside-the-box thinking turned a cold lead into a warm conversation, proving that a bit of creativity can make all the difference in getting your foot in the door. 🎣 Knowing Your Audience and Using the Right “Bait”Drewbie and Debra dig into the importance of understanding your customer avatar. Debra explains that just like a fisherman knows what type of bait will attract a specific fish, sales professionals need to understand what appeals most to their target audience. The key takeaway? When you know your audience’s needs, values, and pain points, you can craft a more effective pitch that resonates. 📈 Why Salespeople Should Embrace Marketing SkillsDebra emphasizes that every great salesperson should understand at least the basics of marketing. Knowing how to generate leads and build awareness can make you unstoppable in the sales game. When you’re able to market yourself and control your lead flow, you’re not just taking orders—you’re building a sustainable business pipeline that you control. In today’s market, being versatile is a huge advantage. 💡 Tips for Effective Objection HandlingDebra shares her approach to objection handling by keeping it creative. Instead of just pushing back on objections, she suggests looking at them as opportunities to connect deeper with the prospect. By addressing objections with empathy and innovative solutions, you can turn a “maybe” or even a “no” into a “yes.” Key Takeaways

Episode 20 - Never Say More Than You Need to in Sales with Bill Baker Hey hey, welcome back everybody to another brand new episode of Call the Damn Leads, I’m your boy, Drewbie and I’m so excited for you guys today because my buddy Bill Baker, the king of kitchen and bathroom remodel sales is here, in the flesh, to share his journey. He's a true testament to the power of being real especially since he was an introverted tradesman turned dynamic entrepreneur. His journey from manual labor to the master of sales not only skyrocketed his business to multi-million dollar success but also inspired his book, "Rebel With a Cause". Sometimes admitting you don't know something can win you more trust than pretending you do. That's one of the golden nuggets Bill and I discuss as we unravel what it takes to make a sales strategy stick. It's all about relatability and throwing in a bit of healthy competition and collaboration. We chat about the surprises that come with bonding over something in common with prospects, navigating the controversial subject of sharing referrals in the trades and sales, and protecting your turf when the going gets tough. Learn the art of never saying more than you need to in an effort to remain “the big guy” on the field.
Key Moments: -Bill’s journey to where he is today including a crazy sales story involving a large amount of money in very small bills. -Be likable, be real, just be a nice guy. -There’s nothing wrong with swapping referrals, but always be aware of who you’re talking to and never say more than you need to. -Define your purpose. What is it that you really want??
Connect with Bill: Bill is a 3rd generation carpenter whose lifelong passion was to be an entrepreneur just like his grandparents who owned an interior design and remodeling business. Over the years Bill has gained enough knowledge and relentless determination to successfully start and operate his own remodeling company. Almost 8 years later, Bill has done over 15 million dollars in total revenue. He was a founding partner of a flooring business that he has since exited to solely acquire a successful granite countertop business that works in tandem with his remodeling company that now does multi-million dollars in sales a year. Bill is the Owner of Relentless Kitchen & Bath Surface Solutions Cabinets & Countertops.

Mitch isn't your average plumber and we find this out by starting with his crazy sales story where a routine service call turned into a 911 call. It’s a story involving quick thinking, compassion, and dedication that highlights the real unpredictability of sales. Little known fact, Mitch transitioned from selling motorcycles to building a career in plumbing, where Mitch learned the real meaning behind personal interaction and problem-solving. Maybe most importantly, we get into the significance of stellar marketing and branding, making sure every customer experience is memorable, whether it’s through phone calls, recording notes from a job, or even acknowledging pets. This approach not only boosts customer satisfaction but also turns clients into devoted fans. Finally, Mitch instills the importance of listening to customer pain points, providing multiple options, and supporting their choices. His commitment to customer experience proves that embodying your brand can attract like-minded clients and yield significant results.
Key Moments: -Mitch’s crazy sales story involving a 911 call for cardiac arrest! -What Mitch loved learning about in sales and how he learned to create his own processes. -Why customer experience is so important, especially in this industry. -The more you learn about your customer, the better you will be at putting together a solution they can agree to.
Connect with Mitch: Mitch started in the plumbing industry in 2001. Before starting his own company, he spent his years managing, starting, and growing plumbing departments for other companies. He started his own company in 2020. He grew his company to 5 trucks and $1M in annual sales in the second full year of operation. Mitch seems to have a knack for building plumbing companies from the ground up and managing plumbing departments upwards of over 20 team members and in excess of $8M in revenue. 27 Feb 2025 | Episode 61 - Building Relationships and Accountability in Sales with Martin Salama | 00:29:19
In this episode of Call The Damn Leads, Drewbie Wilson sits down with the “Warrior Life Coach” himself, Martin Salama, to dive deep into the world of relationship-building, accountability, and the power of mindset in sales. Martin shares his incredible journey from self-doubt to self-mastery, and how he now helps others unlock their potential and stay accountable to their goals. This episode is packed with wisdom on how to genuinely connect with clients, overcome self-imposed limitations, and build a sustainable sales process that focuses on the right leads, not just any leads. Episode Highlights🥙 Breaking Bread to Build BridgesMartin shares a memorable story about a sales trip to Bentonville, Arkansas, where he brought his own kosher lunch due to dietary restrictions. This led to an unexpectedly deep and personal conversation with a potential client, helping them connect over cultural differences. Martin’s story is a reminder that sales is about more than just products—it’s about connecting as people. Sometimes, a shared meal (or kibbeh!) can be the bridge to a strong business relationship. 🎯 The Importance of Asking the Right QuestionsIn sales, knowing your client’s motivations is everything. Martin breaks down one of his key tactics: asking prospects “What’s your why?” and diving deep into the pain points that keep them up at night. Martin’s unique approach to understanding client pain points comes down to his acronym for “WHY”—What’s Hurting You? By getting clients to open up, he uncovers their real motivations and helps them confront their own barriers. 💪 Rational Lies vs. Real TruthMartin introduces a powerful concept: rational lies. When people make excuses for why they can’t achieve something, they’re often rationalizing—telling themselves “rational lies” to justify inaction. In sales, this is a game-changer. When you’re able to help prospects see past these self-imposed limitations, you can help them move forward with confidence. It’s a valuable tool for any sales professional working to build trust and help clients reach their goals. 🤝 Building Genuine Relationships in SalesFor Martin, closing a sale is secondary to building a lasting relationship. He shares how he approaches each client interaction with the mindset of putting relationships first, even if it means potentially losing a sale. By offering to follow up with a client’s spouse or addressing any other concerns head-on, Martin shows a level of transparency and care that’s rare in sales. This commitment to honesty and trustworthiness is the cornerstone of his success. 📊 Accountability Through Results-Based CoachingMartin’s approach to coaching is unlike anything most people have seen. Instead of charging upfront for the entire program, he starts with a small fee and then ties the rest of his payment to the client’s results. By taking on some of the risk himself, Martin holds clients accountable in a unique way, motivating them to achieve tangible outcomes. His focus on accountability is a breath of fresh air in a world full of high-ticket programs that often overpromise and underdeliver. 🧠 Mindset and Scalability in Business GrowthIn addition to systems and accountability, Martin stresses the importance of mindset for achieving long-term success. He talks about transitioning from a “six-figure mindset” to a “seven-figure mindset,” emphasizing that the right mental approach is essential for scaling your business. Martin even offers his clients access to his personal mindset course, Warrior to Warrior, to help them cultivate resilience and confidence as they grow. 🎯 Know Your Leads, Know Your ClientsMartin’s final gem of wisdom is about focusing on the right leads, not just any leads. By understanding who your ideal client is, you can avoid wasting time on unqualified prospects and focus your energy on building meaningful connections with people who genuinely need your product or service. It’s a reminder that calling leads isn’t enough—you need to make sure they’re your leads. Key Takeaways

17 Oct 2024 | Episode 44 - You Can Learn From Your Mistakes, or Lose, the Choice Is Yours with Kevin Palmieri | 00:25:49
Episode 44 - You Can Learn From Your Mistakes, or Lose, the Choice Is Yours with Kevin Palmieri What’s up you guys? Your boy Drewbie is back, and in this episode, I’m with my new friend and podcaster extraordinaire, Kevin Palmieri. First, Kevin gives us his crazy sales story that led to his first big, game-changing client. Despite facing financial hardships and setbacks, his story highlights the importance of patience and understanding the client vetting process. Shifting gears, we explore the power of adding value in sales. We talk about why fostering genuine relationships and emotional connections over hard selling tactics is incredibly valuable. Then, we get to the ever-elusive client referrals, inspired by renowned sales trainer Phil M Jones, and talk about practical strategies for creating opportunities through continuous value addition, even with non-current clients. We’ve all made a few sales mistakes and Kevin is no different. He shares a costly mistake in a negotiation with a multimillionaire, a lesson in understanding that just because someone has the money to spend, it doesn’t mean they want to spend it.
Key Moments: -Kevin’s wild sales story and how it changed his life. -Give away as much value as humanly possible. -How do you get into the giving mindset?? -Asking for referrals is one of the most difficult things to do as a sales professional - here’s how to do it. -The costly mistake Kevin made early in his entrepreneurial days.
Connect with Kevin: Some people find rock bottom... I found out that rock bottom had a basement. In my mid 20's... I had it all. I had a beautiful girlfriend, high paying job, sports car, my dream body... but I still ended up sitting on the edge of a bed debating suicide. After my rock bottom moment, I went all in on holistic self-improvement. I was determined to overcome my anxiety, depression and to finally live the life I'd always dreamed of. Years later, I now host a podcast that impacts hundreds of thousands of people in countries all over the world. At this stage, I've helped grow the podcast into a $1M+ revenue business, and I've recorded well over 2,700+ episodes. I've also given hundreds of speeches, trainings, and coaching sessions with people all over the world. The main thing that changed was ME. I focused on learning what I didn't know (unlearning a lot too), and my life started to shift. I love talking about consistency, commitment, habits, mindset, confidence, fear, relationships, limiting beliefs, and everything in between. I believe in a heart-driven but NO BS approach to holistic self-improvement, and I look forward to teaching even more people about what it really takes to get to the next level! https://www.nextleveluniverse.com/group-coaching/ We run an incredible Group Coaching program every quarter with ten like-minded and heart-driven individuals committed to getting to the next level of their life, love, health, and wealth. Episode 47 - Subtle Cues Make the Biggest Impact with Mitch Carson
What’s up guys, I’m your boy Drewbie and I’m here with my new friend, professional speaker and closer, Mitch Carson. Mitch started his sales career at just 15, knocking on doors and facing everything from guns being drawn on him to curious housewives. Those humble beginnings led to him becoming a master of persuasion. He soon learned non-verbal cues which he would come to learn would make him a master at the art of connecting with people. Subtle techniques like pretending to clean his shoes on the mat opened doors both literally and figuratively, emphasizing the nuance of human interaction in sales.
Mitch talks about how NLP and direct communication can transform any sales pitch, whether on the doorstep or over the phone. We also get into the extreme tactics he used as a stockbroker, where assumption-based pitches became a tool for success in high-pressure environments. Mitch highlights the bold strategies and persistence needed to thrive in the competitive sales industry.
Finally, Mitch takes us on his journey from individual sales to influencing larger audiences through professional speaking. His evolution into a global speaker really emphasizes the importance of social proof and testimonials in building credibility. By sharing his experiences of securing media exposure and enhancing brand presence, Mitch provides some real-life inspiration that will leave you feeling no less than all in with your sales career.

29 Feb 2024 | Episode 11 - Processing the Reality of Sales with Adam Niec | 00:14:05
Episode 11 - Processing the Reality of Sales with Adam Niec You know you're in for a treat when Adam Niec drops by, and this time he's got stories that'll have you laughing your ass off one minute and jotting down notes the next. We’re back with a brand new episode and kicking things off with a trip down memory lane, telling tales from Adam’s early days in sales, including a quirky barter offer that left us wondering if we're in business or a sitcom. But it's not all laughs; this anecdote drops the mic on the real, raw human element that pulses through the heart of B2B sales, where every handshake could lead to an unforgettable story. Transitioning from the pavement to the screen, Adam and I unpack the seismic shift in sales strategies, from door-knocking to direct messaging. There's a method to the social media madness, and we're here to map it out. We share the secret sauce of engaging online without losing that personal touch that seals deals. It's about striking the perfect balance between who you are and what you sell, becoming a magnet for clients who resonate with your brand. And for those skeptical about the transition, we've got firsthand tips on fostering trust and loyalty with your audience for long-term growth and referrals.
Key Moments: -Adam’s crazy sales story with a salon owner. -The secret sales weapons - old school door knocking and social media. -How to leverage social media to excel in sales. -The power of showing your authentic self when working towards getting people to like, know, and trust you. -Sales is the easiest 6-figure job and hardest $50K a year job you’ll ever have.
Connect with Adam: Adam Niec, the owner and creator of Rate Tracker, has a lot of experience working directly with business owners via sales in the payments industry. During his time working in this industry, he realized that most payment businesses exist as a profit center not caring about the people they work with, but more so the money they make off of them. Although some companies are ethical and have a lot of integrity for their customer, they are few and far between. Rate Tracker was founded to help small business owners like you take control of their money and create transparency in the credit card processing industry.
