When You Become the Villain in Their Story05 Nov 202500:32:12

Not every discard looks like a dramatic blow-up. Sometimes it comes quietly — through silence, stonewalling, and indifference. That kind of ending can be even more destabilizing, because it leaves no scene to point to, only the hollow feeling that something is over.

This episode unpacks what it means to be discarded in this way, how it twists reality and casts you as the villain, and why holding your boundaries in the face of emotional withdrawal is an act of self-preservation. If you’ve ever been left with the ache of “Did that really happen?” this conversation will help you see the pattern clearly and remind you that you’re not crazy for feeling the way you do.

How Do I Stop Craving Them? And Have They Really Changed?31 Oct 202500:25:15

This week, I’m sharing a private Q&A episode usually reserved for my Patreon and Substack members. I wanted to make this one public because it speaks to something so many survivors struggle with: the pull of the trauma bond, the shame that lingers, and the confusion around whether someone has truly changed.

In this episode, I answer two powerful listener questions:

1️⃣ How do I stop the shame and craving when I’m still trauma bonded?
2️⃣ How do I know if my ex is really changing — or if it’s just the cycle repeating itself?

We talk about what’s really happening in your body when you crave the “good version” of them, how to starve the cycle without starving yourself, and how to recognize when “healing language” is being used as another form of manipulation.

If this episode resonates, there’s a whole archive of private Q&As, coaching deep dives, and exclusive content waiting for you on Patreon and Substack. You can submit your own questions, join private discussions, and get access to extended episodes and strategy sessions I don’t share anywhere else.

Christina Pierce is a single mother who was stripped of parental rights following her daughter’s heart-wrenching reports of abuse. With each court appearance and every legal document filed, Christina faced an uphill battle against not just her ex-partner but, the judge on her case.

Christina's story is one that resonates with too many. As she navigated the turbulent waters of custody battles in Boston, Massachusetts, her journey has become emblematic of a system fraught with challenges.

Christina walks us through her story and the fight to get her parenting rights back in this episode. We discuss navigating false accusations, documenting meticulously yet knowing when to act decisively, police involvement, temporary suspensions of visitation rights, and gut-wrenching decisions made under duress—all pointing towards systemic failures at safeguarding those most vulnerable: our children.

Detaching from an Abusive Relationship31 Jan 202400:16:58

How do we detach from an abusive partner?  This episode explores why detachment feels tough—it's often likened to breaking an addiction—and offer strategies for stepping back.

One common obstacle is the urge to control an ex-partner's actions post-breakup—like checking if they get to work—but this hinders our own healing process. We also tend to manage how much they miss us by monitoring social media interactions or ensuring visibility in their lives.

Detachment isn't just about creating space between you and another person; it’s about prioritizing yourself over someone who has had too much power over you. This podcast covers how to start detaching effectively.

What if you could decipher the enigmatic world of personality disorders? I'm your host, and in a captivating conversation with psychologist Carrie McAvoy, we unravel the complexities of personality disorders, like narcissism, sociopathy, and psychopathy. Carrie's professional expertise coupled with her personal experience as a survivor of narcissistic abuse takes us deeper into understanding the profound impact of these disorders on our lives. We explore the public health implications of rising narcissism and the struggles of a family court system ill-equipped to handle abuse cases.

Moving beyond the initial exploration, Carrie and I delve into psychopathic and sociopathic traits. We expose how these traits can blend seamlessly into our daily interactions, often going unnoticed. Drawing on our personal experiences, we discuss how to deal with these personalities and establish healthy boundaries. Through our conversation, we aim to empower you in recognizing these traits and fortify your defenses against them.

Lastly, we underscore the role of self-awareness in managing manipulative relationships. We illustrate the importance of trusting your intuition and listening to your feelings in identifying toxic relationships. We also shed light on the societal pressures that often hinder us from speaking up for ourselves and share strategies to nurture emotional intelligence. By the end of our conversation, you'll have a toolkit of insights to navigate tricky relationships and spot manipulative behaviors. Don't miss out on this enlightening conversation and join us as we break the cycle together.

Emotional abuse is often depicted as a stark, unmistakable force in relationships. However, many suffer from a more insidious form that whispers and weaves itself into their lives with such subtlety that it's almost invisible. It can make victims doubt their sanity when they feel dismissed after trying to be heard.

Today's episode dives into subtle emotional abuse by intelligent abusers who mask their manipulation as caring or rational explanations.

The Cycle of Sexual Coercion24 Sep 202500:09:15

Sexual coercion is one of the most misunderstood and silenced forms of abuse. It’s not seduction. It’s not miscommunication. It’s pressure, guilt, manipulation, and punishment used to get sex when you’ve already said no, shown hesitation, or felt unsafe. It’s not about intimacy—it’s about power and control.

This is a bonus episode from Unhooked—my private podcast series for survivors breaking free from emotional abuse.

In this episode, I break down how sexual coercion works, the subtle (and not‑so‑subtle) ways it shows up, and how it maps directly into the cycle of abuse. You’ll learn:

  • What sexual coercion actually is—and what it isn’t
  • Examples of how it sounds and why survivors often can’t name it in the moment
  • How coercion weaves through the tension‑building, incident, reconciliation, and calm stages of the abuse cycle
  • The emotional and body‑based trauma responses it creates, including dissociation and loss of sexual agency
  • Why “yes” isn’t real consent if it’s given out of fear, exhaustion, guilt, or to avoid conflict

If you’ve experienced this but never had the words for it, this episode will help you see it, name it, and understand that it is abuse.

This bonus episode is part of Unhooked: Mapping the Cycle of Abuse—a private podcast where we break down each phase of the abuse cycle, explore trauma bonding in depth, and help you reclaim your clarity, your nervous system, and your sense of self.

How to Divorce a Narcissist with Tina Swithin18 Oct 202300:51:24

Tina Swithin, author of Divorcing a Narcissist and creator of OneMomsBattle.com, has been committed to helping others divorce abusive partners for decades. Together, we dissect the complexities of divorcing a Narcissist and how to protect your children.

Our conversation is rooted in our experiences and knowledge, but this isn't a source for legal advice. You should always engage an attorney on the legalities.

In this episode we discuss the trials of securing a family court attorney with a deep understanding of emotional and psychological abuse cases. We discuss the necessity of maintaining financials separate from custody decisions and suggested strategies for engaging with an abusive co-parent in a court setting.

The “Nice” Version Isn’t Proof They’ve Changed17 Sep 202500:15:09

They’re kind again… so does that mean they’ve changed? In this episode, we unpack why the “nice” version is part of the abuse cycle — and how to tell the difference between real change and a calculated reset.

One of the most confusing parts of an emotionally abusive relationship is when the cruelty suddenly stops — and the “nice” version of the person shows up. Maybe they’re warmer, calmer, even kind for a while. You start to wonder… are they finally changing? Was I wrong about the abuse?

In this episode, I break down why that “nice” version isn’t separate from the abuse — it’s part of the cycle. We’ll explore how kindness can be used as a tactic, why it often appears when you’re pulling away or setting boundaries, and how intermittent reinforcement keeps you hooked in the trauma bond.

From Love Bombing to Losing Myself — and Finding My Way Back10 Sep 202500:57:11

In this raw and validating conversation, fitness expert and former pro athlete Holly Rilinger shares her first public telling of the emotional abuse she endured inside a long-term relationship that looked perfect on the outside.

Holly opens up about how the relationship began with admiration and love bombing, then slowly eroded her confidence, identity, and sense of self. From subtle criticisms about her appearance to the complete absence of repair after conflict, she found herself living in constant fatigue, self-doubt, and silence — all while running a successful fitness business and motivating others to feel strong in their own skin.

The discussion unpacks the patterns of narcissistic abuse, the manufactured discard, the loss of identity, and the physical toll of living in fight-or-flight for years. Holly reflects on the moment a friend finally witnessed the behavior, how she began waking up to the truth, and the small ways she’s reclaiming her body, voice, and power in the seven months since leaving.

If you’ve ever questioned your reality in a relationship that looked “fine” to the outside world but felt like slow erasure on the inside, Holly’s story will remind you that you’re not crazy — and that healing is possible.

How to Begin to Heal from a Trauma Bond19 Jul 202300:10:08

How do you begin to heal from a Trauma Bond? A 10 minute podcast will not fully answer that question, but it's a start.

Recently, I posted a definition of Trauma Bonding on my Instagram: trauma bonding is a misplaced loyalty where a victim is emotionally bonded with their abuser and finds themselves unable to leave an unhealthy relationship. The victim remains loyal to someone who has betrayed them time and time again.

I had a few people comment on that post asking --- so what's the next step? I was once looking for this answer, so I wanted to take some time to talk about what it takes to begin to heal through a trauma bond.

Divorcing and Co-Parenting a Narcissist {Interview with Tori}12 Jul 202300:48:36

Tori Benitez of Onyx Arrow Consulting joins me to discuss the realities of the Family Court system and the importance of having a strategy when divorcing a Narcissist. In this episode, Tori and I break down the complexities of the Family Court system and Co-Parenting with a Narcissist.

According to Tori, family Court is like one big game of chess where children are seen as posessions. This is exactly how Judges, and other court professionals, and your abusive ex, sees them. To play the sick game of “winning” you have to not be distracted by how many little pieces your ex “wins” along the way.

Tori is a Divorce Coach and helps empower DV victims by using strategies within the Family Court system.

How I Got Here - My Story28 Jun 202300:22:30

I went for Narcissists and assholes because it was more familiar to feel *not good enough* than to feel valued. That was my version of safe. That was what I knew love to be. I pushed away every nice guy that came my way and prioritized going back to hurtful relationships with men who never valued me for me (they valued me so long as I fit in the box they wanted me to fit in).  This podcast unpacks my story. I know you may see yourself in it.

When Kerry met her ex, he was everything she wanted in a partner. Yet months after the wedding, she woke up to an unknown woman’s text: “I guess the joke is not just on me but on you too. I’ve been dating your husband.”

Shocked, trapped, and still in love, she didn’t leave. For the years following, Kerry's life turned into a living hell as she tried to save the relationship and understand how someone could act the way he was.

On this podcast, Kerry and I take a deep dive into her book, Love You More, and how she survived emotional abuse, financial abuse and sexual abuse.

Growing Up in a Narcissistic Home & Healing from Abuse with Katherine Kleis07 Jun 202300:43:03

After growing up in an abusive home, I never 'bought' the theory that Narcissists are Narcissists because of their upbringing. Katherine Kleis' story has many parralels to mine. She joins me to discuss her upbringing, how she left her Narcissistic parents, and how she healed from Narcissistic relationships.

No matter where you come from or where you have been, it is important to never stop fighting for yourself.

Katherine runs STAND Coaching. Her mission is to help empower clients to take back control of their life. You can connect with her here: https://www.standcoaching.com/

Am I Overreacting?03 Sep 202500:12:44

Most survivors don’t start by asking “Is this abuse?” They ask “Why do I feel crazy?”

This episode dives deep into the emotional confusion that defines so many abusive dynamics—especially when gaslighting, blame-shifting, and chronic invalidation are at play. If you’ve ever found yourself apologizing after being hurt, doubting your memory, or shrinking yourself to avoid their reactions, you’re not alone—and you’re not overreacting.

We’ll explore:

  • How emotional abuse trains you to question your reality
  • The difference between lying and gaslighting—and why the distinction matters
  • Subtle red flags that keep you stuck in self-blame
  • The questions that help you reconnect with your truth

This episode is here to help you name the thing you haven’t been able to name, and to remind you: confusion is a tactic.
