In October of 2024, yk Records released Moment of Bleakness, the debut EP from Trash Man. A year later, we released the second EP Cool Until It’s Not. Both are quick bursts of rock music seeped in existential ponderings. They somehow manage to be extremely fun and also introspectively weighty about our time on this big rock. To dig further into this, Alex Mojaverian (Trash Man himself) sat down to talk about his musical history, how Trash Man came to be, how motivating the thought of Death can be and many other lighthearted topics like aliens, ghosts, witches and the crushing forces of capitalism! Seriously tho, the conversation reflects Trash Man’s music – it is a good time that doesn’t shy away from hard topics but somehow, miraculously, doesn’t feel like a bummer. — Trash Man Official Site Jenni Mojaverian on Instagram Hard Launch by Jenni Mojaverian Trash Man – Moment of Bleakness Trash Man – Cool Until It’s Not Trash Man – Cool Until It’s Not Demos Sad Baxter Bill Eberle Bleary Ranch Ghost Steve Albini ‘Fluffy’ Coffee Theme song and episode music by Mac Burrus. It’s a dose of Quick Bites, aka QUIBI’S. A term that I am hellbent on taking back for our common lexicon. Truthfully tho, is it really Quick Bites if the episode is over 30 minutes? I say yes but some may say nay. You’ll have to weigh in via DM to let me know what you think. We take a look at some recent YK news and the 3 latest YK releases. | The Three C’s with Coupler (Ryan Norris) and sugar sk-lls (Ben Marcantel) | 04 Nov 2025 | 01:48:32
YK Records has the fortunate pleasure of releasing music with the electronic artists Coupler – aka Ryan Norris – and sugar sk*-*lls – aka Ben Marcantel. These two have a deep catalog of works to explore but, most recently, they released a collaborative EP called The Great Oxidation Event. This piece is inspired in part by a cataclysmic geological event of the same name and created by following the methodology of Miles Davis & Teo Macero’s Bitches Brew. By that, an improvisational piece was recorded by Marcantel and delivered to Norris with the instructions to add no overdubs, only edit the piece with transformation and mutation. The results are fantastic. Talking to these two is an absolute pleasure as they are both unbelievably thoughtful, extremely insightful and casual about the way they talk about music. Both tackle big heady concepts during our conversation but it’s never presented as some dull or dense topic, it’s exciting and inspiring to hear them talk. I am beyond pleased to get to work with them both when it comes to releasing music and absolutely gleeful that we got to chat about their latest release. Oh, and “The Three C’s” refers to “Community, Comradery and Creativity” – you’ll understand soon enough. | Discovered by Lost Wave with Alex Caress & Beth Cameron | 27 Aug 2025 | 01:16:52
This podcast is about the goop between technology, music, and creativity – told through the lens of yk Records. This episode exemplifies that quest. Today we talk with Alex Caress and Beth Cameron about their experiences being discovered by the Lost Wave community – a group of sleuths that take on the task of finding music that is otherwise uncredited. Both Alex and Beth had music uploaded to the Internet without any credit – fans simply having the music files and wanting to find out who made the songs. Lost Wave tracked them both down. This conversation isn’t as much about how they were found (tho we do cover that) but more about how it feels to have music you created decades ago reach someone in a meaningful way, music you yourself considered lost. If you want more on both of these stories – please dive into this WPLN article about Alex’s experience and this But Her Lyrics podcast episode for Beths. Huge thanks to both of these two for sharing the experience and even bigger thanks to the Lost Wave community for tracking them down! — Additional Links: Alex as Little Bandit: Beth Cameron on Instagram Beth’s band Fair Verona: Beth’s band forget cassettes: Beth’s band Black Bra: Beth & Alex’s band (and Jordan!) | Balancing The Coin with Talking with Hands | 25 Jul 2025 | 00:28:45
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yk-world/id1794019241?mt=2&ls=1
Whenever YK Records puts out a new release, we write up a little bio about the artist and the release. This process is talking about in more detail on The Guide to Releasing Records but, in short, it’s a handful of questions that are written up asynchronously. I pose some questions, the artist supplies some answers. It’s not a proper conversation but it is a conduit to understanding the inspirations and processes for any given release. On Friday, July 18th, YK released a new EP entitled The Coin from Talking with Hands. These four songs are politically inspired and the most urgent and charged tracks to date. Matthew Smith, aka Talking with Hands himself, answered many questions about the release in our pre-release interview – all incredibly insightful to the release. Many of the quotes made it into the bio but not all. That’s a shame. So, this episode we recreate that interview – asynchronously. It’s an experiment and I think it works pretty well. You’ll benefit from hearing the EP ahead of time but you’ll also be inspired to hear it afterwards. So, no wrong choices. | Ampwall: Building Community with Chris Grigg | 14 Jul 2025 | 01:08:19
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/yk-world/id1794019241?mt=2&ls=1
This episode we talk with Chris Grigg, founder of Ampwall. What is Ampwall? It’s a direct to consumer music platform that enables artists to post their creations and sell them directly to their fans. If that sounds a lot like Bandcamp, you’re not wrong! The idea for Ampwall was born out of the tumultuous time when Bancamp was sold to Epic Games. We talk with Grigg about the history of the company, the differences between Ampwall and Bandcamp and what he foresees in the future. Spoiler alert: Ampwall intends to be much more than just a place to sell music, it aims to become a better place for creatives of all kinds to find community. Two very important items to remember as you listen to this episode:
