| E114 | I'll Take My Leve, Outdoors | Part 1 | w/ Cameren Abila | 19 oct. 2026 | 00:57:57 | |
In This Episode: We have an episode coming out of the vault today, folks! Co-hosted with Basecamp, this episode was originally recorded in November of 2024 with Cameren, the founder of Leve Outdoor Co. We really got along well with Cameren, so there is a good deal of hikertrash bullshitting here, BUT we also got to hear about his hiking and trail running experiences. Curious why a hiker would choose to give up their 'freedom' to start an all-consuming small business? Cameren explains. Enjoy the episode and stay tuned for part two, next week. Nathan “Deuces” Taylor and Nate “Good Cat” Katz join me while we reflect on our favorite (and not so favorite) burritos (and breakfast) on trail. We've hiked about a quarter of the trail together in sections just this year while Deuces has been working on his section hike. Come on and have a laugh with us! | E109 | The Art Of Quitting | Tour Divide | w/ Nic "Darwin" Rakestraw | 14 sept. 2026 | 00:53:02
In This Episode: Quitting tends to have a negative connotation to it. But sometimes, quitting is good, and even necessary. In today’s episode, we sit down with Nic "Darwin" Rakestraw and discuss learning your body’s limits and reading the tea leaves for when to quit. We get into some of the nitty gritty about his attempted bike race on the Tour Divide Trail from Banff to Mexico, including his injuries (saddle rash and an Achilles issue) that ultimately led to his pulling out of the race. Our conversation also covers post-trail depression and advice to folks who have to make that decision to quit on trail. A big thanks to Darwin for joining us on today’s episode! | E107 | Walk For The Wild | ME To NY - 1300 Miles Hiked | Part 1 | w/ Wesley "Megaman" Tils | 31 août 2026 | 00:44:04
In This Episode: Tramily, today is dedicated to some pretty ripe hikertrash...his name is Wesley "Megaman" Tils. He's been on the show a few times before talking about his "Walk For The Wild" trek, but today we are talking TRAIL UPDATES; that's because he's now 1300 miles into his journey, and still going strong, despite a few setbacks. We recorded this chat while he was on trail, in the thick of it (technically in a hotel room, but still). Having hiked from Main (ME) to New York (NY) at the time of our recording, the chat threads through his experiences in each state, folks who seem interested at first but then glaze over when he details his hiking saga for conservation, balancing emotions (especially anger) when concerning the dismantling of our natural spaces including Bears Ears and the Grand Staircase, a battle with mosquitoes that left his lips swollen, and some really uplifting interviews/chats he's had with folks along his walk for conservation (chestnut trees and petroglyphs, oh my). Today is part 1 of our 2 part check in with Megaman. | E106 | Spirit Of The Trail | w/ Jon "Pa'at" Anderson | Part 2 | 24 août 2026 | 00:43:04
In This Episode: Hikertrash, welcome! This week’s Yeti Legs & Basecamp covers the last half of our conversation with Jon “Pa’at” Anderson ( Pa’at and Wonder ). We continue to hike through the PCT with Pa’at...including his trail work for the Lionshead closure of the PCT that earned him a $300 fine and having his hiking permit pulled. His PCT song (which you can hear at the end of the episode) went viral and led to an Outdoor Magazine interview even though it focused on snow-blindness rather than his deep love for the land and respect for the Koya Tribes. We wrap up with what it means to be/walk outside alongside his PCT song. Special cohost for today’s episode is Christopher “Tumbleweed” Maples ( Christopher Maples ). In This Episode: Hikertrash, stand up! This week on Yeti Legs & Basecamp we are talking to Jon “Pa’at” Anderson ( Pa’at and Wonder ), our modern-day version of John Muir, but this guy is all about respecting the Indigenous Peoples that once lived along our trails and protected places. Pa’at’s childhood kept him out in the wilderness, exploring all that grows and weathers. That experience translated into who he has been throughout adulthood; his time spent as a ranger, his hike along the PCT (including meeting Tumbleweed, Basecamp, and me), and so much more. In this part 1, we wrap with a conversation about what it means to hike on native lands and respecting those who came before. | E103 | Nic "Darwin" Rakestraw | Imposter Syndrome & Hiking Elitism | Part 2 | 03 août 2026 | 00:49:32
In This Episode: Howdy hikertrashy folks! In this week's episode we wrap up our interview with Nic “Darwin” Rakestraw. Darwin touches on the business structure for Evolved Supply Co. (his outdoor gear baby) and his inspiration for creating a small cottage name...and here's a hint, it sure as hell is not for the money. Remember how last episode we dove into imposter syndrome; well, you're not an imposter if you're doing the best you can, even as a business owner, even though none of us really have a clue what we are doing on this giant planet of ours. Being called an elitist because you like the most expensive hiking gear? Some might call you a smart consumer instead. The chat wraps talking about...bikes? Darwin has had quite the journey through cycling, bike racing, and bike-packing. He recently raced the Tour Divide - a 2,700 mile tour/race from Banff to New Mexico, and this interview covers his thoughts and plans before he started. Stay tuned for a follow up interview with him after the race to see how it went. | E92 | Be A Villager | w/ Erin Sprague of POW | A Love Of Hiking, Renewable Energy, The Power Of Science, And Community | 18 mai 2026 | 00:42:24
In This Episode: They say it takes a village, but what’s a village without the folks who live there? Being a villager means showing up for your neighbors, contributing where you can, and protecting your home (in this case, the village). Erin Sprague, CEO of Protect Our Winters (or POW) thinks this way when it comes to POW’s main goal - combating climate change. As temperatures rise (and they are, without a doubt), our winters are taking a hit; something that may affect your next hike, including water availability, wildfires, or even increased avalanche risk. In today’s chat, Erin shares an empowering message on renewable energy by explaining what we can do (as a village) to fight the real culprit behind climate change. Is it AI? Extracting materials for renewable energy? Burning fossil fuels? Tune in to find out more, and to learn how being a good “villager” starts with simply knowing your neighbor’s name.

In This Episode - Alaska may be one of the few [truly] wild places left in the United States, and while there aren’t any massive thru-hikes there (yet), the place is chock-full of wildlife, rugged terrain, hiking trails, and the highest mountains in the United States. Located in and near the Arctic Circle, it’s meant to be cold- so what’s happening up there that might be changing some of that raw, cold ruggedness? Tune in to our chat with Alex Lee, Director of Science and Education at Protect Our Winters (POW) where we cover drunken trees, permafrost, caribou, polar bears, oil extraction, the roadless rule, the Forest Service shifts, grizzlies, and even the most rugged critter (in my opinion) out there, a wolverine. | E89 | How Hikers & Gear Brands Are Taking The Fight To Climate Change | An Environmental Corner Episode | 27 avr. 2026 | 00:25:05
Episode Summary: The bad really makes you appreciate the good. That's why we wanted to wrap up with the "bad" in our Nation's fight against climate change using a healthy dose of good. We discuss a few things our Country is doing to try and roll back progress against fighting climate change, but then what fellow hikers and a few hiking brands are doing to keep on bringing the fight. You don't have to take a monumental step to make some solid change. Even picking up a single piece of trash can do a world of good, whether you know it or not. We wrap with a bit of Q&A about climate change from our lead editor Charlotte. A huge thanks to Megaman, RecPak, Sawyer, Ken Posner, and our anonymous hiker for taking the time to share what they are doing to make the world and hiking community a better place!! | E84 | What The Heck Is Global Warming & Climate Change? | An Environmental Corner Episode | 19 mars 2026 | 00:16:10
If you love it, you'll give a sh*t. Climate change? Global warming? Same terms? Different? In 15 minutes, I do my best to break down what all these words mean in the common tongue; in a way that most anyone is able to understand because at the heart of it, it's a difficult topic to wrap your head around. And what's causing these phenomena? Greenhouse gasses. It's important for anyone to understand global warming and the changes it elicits, but especially for folks who love to be outside- like hikers. Global warming is not a human caused phenomena. It happens naturally, but it's increasing at an exponentially unnatural rate due to humankind. Hikers and tree huggers unite so that we can all better understand what's happening in and to our world. Knowledge is power, so let's level up and gain more power, together. *The majority of information for this episode was quote and pulled from both these NASA and National Geographic articles. | E82 | Hiking 8000 Miles For Nature | A Walk For The Wild with Wesley "Megaman" Tils | An Environmental Corner Episode | 04 mars 2026 | 00:33:12
Wesley "Megaman" Tils plans to spend approximately 1.5 years through an entire winter season...hiking for nature, for conservation, for the wild. The trek will run some 8,000 miles from the easternmost to westernmost points of the contiguous United States, along a path that he designed himself. The reason for using his entire savings and pushing his body to its limits- to raise awareness (and funds) for the conservation entities that protect our wild spaces, and to bring others [in spirit] into the backcountry with him. Megaman feels that such an undertaking is more important now than ever as the current administration threatens environmental and conservation regulations which protect our public lands, federal lands, and all the life that calls those places home. What's more, even Megaman's dream job in archaeology is at risk through weakening of the Antiquities Act. Chasing the legacy of his ancestor, a vagrant viking who sawed off his own leg due to frostbite, Megaman has a resume of long-distance trails that leaves little room for concern that he will be able to complete this journey. Listen in to hear the what, how, and why of Megaman's plan to "Walk for the Wild". To find Megaman: Megaman's YouTubeMegaman's GoFundMe Keywords: #conservation #nature #walking #hiking #loveofnature

Artificial intelligence (AI) has not been kind to our environment. | E67 | PCT | Week 22 | Asphalt Desert & Bridge of the Gods | Sisters to Cascade Locks, OR | 07 juil. 2025 | 01:54:27
Episode Summary: We were hiking along an asphalt desert, quite literally...it was desert and farmland in Oregon, but we were walking the highway with no shoulder. Our thighs, shins, and feet were riddled with painful red splotches-heat rash. But thank goodness we had angels along the way, people going out of their way to offer us water, air conditioning, and shelter. We circumvented the Lions head closure with a road walk and rewarded ourselves with the famous Timberline Lodge buffer (every hiker’s dream). Our week 22 of the PCT was jam-packed, and concludes with a pretty stunning hiking speckled with waterfalls, and new hiker friends as we arrive at Cascade Locks. Cascade Locks signifies the end of Oregon (NOBO) and the beginning of the last state of the PCT, Washington. Oh, and Yeti was too drunk to say hello to his then PCT hero, and we stayed in an asylum converted to a hotel. | E66 | PCT | Week 21 | 24-Hour Challenge, Angry Lava Rock, & Lionshead | Shelter Cove to Sisters, OR | 23 juin 2025 | 01:20:06
Episode Summary: Welcome to Oregon, the magic carpet, and our 24-hour challenge from week 21 on the PCT. In this episode of YWIB, we lasso 3 other hikers into our 24-hours of straight hiking from Shelter Cover Resort to…somewhere. At some point, we lose 2 folks to sleepiness, see a sasquatch/Jesus burn image, just about die from mosquitoes, and then FINALLY make it to 24 hours. Basecamp loses her wedding band, we spend 3 days in Sisters, resting…and then we begin our road walk around the Lionshead closure.

| E65 | The Last Englishman | with Keith "Fozzie" Foskett [Dromomaniac & Author] | A Book(s) Reflection | On Thru-Hiking, Depression, & Ghosts | 16 juin 2025 | 01:55:17 | |
Episode Summary: Inspiration. Inspiration is the first step towards action. Before we hiked the PCT in 2022, we were inspired to hike it, not only from online sources, but more importantly by hikers who took the time to tell their long-form stories, in books. Keith “Fozzie” Foskett wrote one of two books which gave Basecamp and me the final push we needed to commit to the PCT. Years later, here we are sitting down to chat with the author of The Last Englishman. Fozzie shares some of his highs and lows from an impressive thru-hiking career, covers topics from his favorite U.S. breakfast, a health scare on the CDT, struggling with depression, and even his ghostly experience on the PCT. This is less an interview and more catching up between old friends at a cozy pub. Listen in and share this time with us. We wanted to share Fozzie’s thru-hiking resume, and thebooks he’s published to give you an idea of just how much this guy has done. He’s a TRUE dromomaniac. Trails: El Camino de Santiago (the Camino de Francais route) in 2001, 2016 and 2019. El Camino de Santiago (the Via Podensis route) in 2001, and 2016. The Pacific Crest Trail in 2010. The Appalachian Trail in 2012. 500-miles on the CDT in 2015. Across Scotland in 2016 (600 miles). The following national trails in the UK: The South Downs Way (100-miles) at least 12 times. The North Downs Way (140-miles) 3 times. The Ridgeway (85-miles). The West Highland Way. The Cape Wrath Trail . . . and a lot of day walks! Books: The Last Englishman, Balancing On Blue, TheJourney In Between, High and Low
