#322: Psychology of Phantom fight scenes with Julie & Alex25 Nov 202500:59:06

Action scenes are a critical component of any Phantom story, so how does a comics creator seek authenticity, credibility, and high-level danger and originality in combat scenes and thrill sequences? The answer is to consult a stunt performer. Phantom writer Julie Ditrich and film and TV stunt performer Alex Jewson discuss how they collaborate, the psychology of fight scenes, and the dramatic and emotional effects they are seeking when choreographing action for comic book pages.

The psychology of fight scenes may seem a different idea to some, but the Phantom is not like normal superheroes. He does not have superpowers; he moves differently, he behaves differently, and we spend an hour going full on nerdy about how the Phantom behaves while in a fight.

This is a fascinating subject. You will enjoy this podcast.

#321 - Unpacking Old Jungle Sayings13 Nov 202501:03:02

Following on from X-Band: The Phantom Podcast Episode 307, Jermayn Parker and Matt Kyme explored the many elements that were vital to making a Phantom story something that hits the mark for phans. One of those elements was Old Jungle Sayings, in this podcast we do a deep dive into Old Jungle Sayings!

According to DeepWoods.org, a story cannot be a Phantom story without these sayings appearing more than once in a while. These sayings are in many ways responsible for the mystifying aura seen in Phantom stories.

We look at what are these Old Jungle Sayings and go over some of our personal favourites or sayings that stick in our memories. There is 100+ in various subtle changes to choose from!

We go all nerdy and look at the origins of them in the Phantom universe, from Old Native Sayings to Old Jungle Sayings. We compare them from a cultural impact and psychological role compared to real-life proverbs and religious mantras.

The comparison doesn't stop there as we compare our Phantom's Old Jungle Sayings with oral proverbs preserving legendary heroes like Maui the Maori (New Zealand) demigod, and fear-based lore enforcing social norms, which you can see in the Bedouin, Apache, and Amazonian tribes from around the world.

Our final step in our nerdom travels down Old Jungle Sayings is we compare this storytelling element to comic characters like Batman, Tarzan, Judge Dredd, Conan, and the famous meme master Chuck Norris.

The Phantom is the only character with all of

1) Formally repeated, structured sayings (like folklore or scripture)

2) A generational myth actively maintained by the sayings ("The Phantom never dies") and

3) A tribal culture that embraces and perpetuates the myth as truth

Batman and Zorro come close in terms of urban/fear-based mythology but lack the ritualistic repetition and communal cultural buy-in.

This may end up being our smartest, most in-depth, and nerdiest Phantom podcast ever! We hope you enjoy it!

X-Band: Phantom Podcast #319 - Passing the collection mantle on!14 Oct 202501:11:09

If you listen to this podcast, chances are you are obsessed with purple (or blue in Scandinavia, Red in South America etc) and have an unhealthy fetish on all things Phantom. This podcast is something a little different; Jermayn Parker is joined by Sean Bassett and Nick Moles as we chat about collecting.

We have interviewed and chatted with a few collectors like Pete Klaus (Episode #88), Jon Cookson (#75), Antonio DiDio (#258), Ohm Roy (#108) and Gary Horne (#64) but one thing we have not addressed much is what happens to our collections when it is time to pass the collection onto the next person?

This may sound morbid, but what happens if you are not prepared & your collection is left to your loved ones to deal with? This podcast is to at least start the preparation and/or conversation so you can pass the collection onto the next generation.

Some key discussion points we discuss are:

  • The difference between an investment and a hobby
  • What items could be seen as an investment
  • Swedish death cleaning
  • How to sell your collection when that time comes
  • What to do with your collection if you cannot sell it

Anything else you would like to see discussed? Let us know and give us your thoughts. You can email us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat with us via our social media profiles on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram. #318 - Mad Cave Studios Phantom #1 review28 Sep 202500:33:02

Wednesday 24 September 2025, Mad Cave Studios release their first regular feature Phantom comic on the back of their well received Defenders of the Earth comic series.

Jermayn Parker and Scott Waldyn review the comic together. We talk about the elephant in the room of the Phantom showing his eyes for us readers plus what the comic does well. At the end of the day, it is a good comic. The story is solid and has a definite modern feel to it and we hope for those Falkist phans you give it a go.

We would love to hear your thoughts on the comic. We have on purpose released this episode a week after it hit the comic stores around the world. You can either email us, leave your comments at our YouTube channel, and/or leave them at our social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram.

Is Scott Waldyn right that for many readers of the comic, they wont understand the importance of the lore of not seeing the Phantom eyes? What do you think? Is it a big deal? Is the blame on King Features for allowing this? Or is it on Tony DePaul who started this trend with his Daily story "Phantoms End"?

Did you like the dual character perspective in the comic?

Did you like the love and relationship shown between the Bandar and the Phantom?

Did you like the art style? Does the Phantom not having stripped undies bother you?

Anything else you would like to see discussed? Let us know and give us your thoughts. #315 - Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth Series 1 Review26 Aug 202500:54:49

The second volume TPB of the Defenders of the Earth series by Mad Cave Studios is now out for sale around the world. Scott Wydon joins Stephen East and Jermayn Parker as they review all 8 issues from the series. They do a 5 minutes synopsis of the series and then get down to business talking about what they like, what they do not like and much more.

We will be discussing the story in detail, so there will be spoilers. We recommend ensuring you read the series before you listen / watch this podcast. We have warned you!

Why does the Phantom carry revolvers instead of his 1911's?

Is the Phantom still alive and the Phantom? Or is Jedda now the Phantom?

Will Jedda taking on the role of the Phantom see Rick, LJ and K'shin also take over the roles by their fathers? Will this then see a change of the song to become "8 becomes 4..."

Is Ming still alive?

Will Kurt return?

Considering that Barin Atomics was used in the first series, will we see Prince Barin?

Was bringing Xanadu in the pocket of Mandrake genius or too convenient?

Are we seeing a return to the classic golden oldie characters?

What would you like to see in the new Defenders of the Earth series starting in 2026?

These plus much more are the questions we have. Have you read the series? What did you think about it? We love your comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world.

#313 - Sounds from 2025 LFMBEC & Supanova30 Jul 202501:39:31

This podcast includes recordings from the Australian Phantom weekend, including the video from Lauren Marshall, who spoke beautifully at the 2025 LFMBEC dinner. Billy Zane completed many Q&As over the two weeks he was in Australia. He did Q&As at Sydney and Perth Supanova as well as other events at theaters located in Sydney and Melbourne in between the two weekends. Thanks must go to those fans who helped us with these recordings; unfortunately, we at Chronicle Chamber were unable to attend.

Please note, these recordings were made onsite on location, so the quality in spots is questionable. Please bear with it, as the content is great.

As you will find out when you listen to and/or watch this podcast, Lauren has an amazing story, and Billy Zane does indeed have a soft spot for the Phantom. It is almost like every second answer he gave to a question came back to the Phantom somehow. In the Perth Q&A at Supanova, he talked about how he would love to complete a passing of the Phantom mantle to the next actor in a TV show or movie when it happens. We would also like to see that. You?

If you know of other Phantom creators attending events around the world, please also contact us. We would love to promote these events on our platforms. If you would like to help us promote Phantom-related guests at conventions and events, please contact us.

#312 - Saturday Morning Cards & their Phantom Designer Art Card set20 Jul 202501:27:11

Stephen East, Dan Fraser and Jermayn Parker meet and chat with Daniel Nguyen, the director over at Saturday Morning Cards (SMC). SMC has released a Phantom Designer Art Card set, with preorders being shipped at the end of July 2025. During this podcast, Daniel shows us the cards and explains the collector card concept, which may be foreign for some phans.

Daniel also shows us every card in the set from the different finishes, including the black 1/1 and some of the sketches. We would recommend everyone watch this on YouTube so you can ensure you see the different cards in this Phantom set but also some other great examples of designer art cards.

Daniel talks about the endless possibilities of possible new Phantom products, including a prototype for an exclusive limited edition card that may be released. All these possibilities will depend on if the cards sell.

If you would like to order your set, you can via the Saturday Morning Cards website. At this stage the website does not have the function to ship outside North America, but you can email them for a shipping quote. However, we can announce that there is now an Australian / New Zealand distributor who will be taking orders—you can contact them at SaturdayMorningCardsAUS@gmail.com .

#310 - With Magnus Carling22 Jun 202500:51:55

Jermayn Parker and Stephen East chat with Swedish writer Magnus Carling. This is a fascinating chat with a new comer to the Phantom universe who has two story credits to his name. #307 - Phantom story elements20 May 202501:19:12

If you are a Phantom nerd, you will like this podcast as Jermayn Parker and Matt Kyme discuss close to 50+ stories as they try and nail down important elements on how to create a good Phantom story.

With the Phantom census currently open we are gathering data and information from hundreds of Phantom fans around the world telling us what they like, do not like and want to see happen with their Phantom. We wanted to focus on some of the questions we ask and that is about the stories and what makes them great and enjoyable for us fans.

Every so often in between creator interviews and reporting and reviewing all the latest Phantom comics and Phantom news around the world we get to go nerdy. This is one of those cases to go nerdy with Matt Kyme who is both a Phantom phan but also a creator with his Frew created stories and on the Phantom video game.

Some of the elements and themes we discuss are about portraying the Phantom properly and not being a purple Batman and or alternative Tarzan character. What themes like mystery, thriller, action and romance work and what doesn't work in our stories. What important lores to include like Old Jungle Sayings, retelling the oath and much more.

#305 - With Marcelo Baez22 Apr 202501:07:47

Jermayn Parker is on his own as he talks to Chilean born Australian raised Marcelo Baez who is a Frew cover artist who has also drawn one short story so far. This is a fascinating chat with a new comer to the Phantom universe who brings an unique style to his covers. He also shows us his new Phantom cover which will be out in the next month.

We go over his career, the reason why there was a five year hiatus between his first and second Frew cover and just how many skulls did he manage to sneak into the Frew #1969 cover. How many can you find? Let us know.

You can follow Marcelo Baez at his Instagram, or look at his work on his website. If you have a kid in the Wollongong area who likes to draw, we would recommend looking at his art classes. He also has his original artwork for his covers for sale.

We had some Internet connection issues, so we apologise for any glitches and video quality problems you may see.

#303 - Phantom Phan Census 2025: Have Your Say & Win Exclusive Prizes!23 Mar 202500:48:59

For almost 90 years, The Phantom has been thrilling phans worldwide. But who exactly are the phans? In collaboration with King Features and several publishers, we at Chronicle Chamber aim to find that out, with the Phantom Phan Census 2025!

This global census is a chance for YOU to share your Phantom story, from how you first discovered the legend to what you want to see in the future - whether it’s a new movie, TV series, or more comics! Plus the opportunity to gather information on how you read your Phantom comics & stories, what you like and what you want to collect.

Take the census now: https://www.chroniclechamber.com/phan-census

Why Take Part?

This census builds on Kevin Patrick’s academic study (The Phantom Unmasked), which explored Phantom phandom in worldwide. Our intent is to (hopefully) repeat this census every 5 years to track how Phantom readership, collecting, and interests evolve.

What’s in the Census?

  • Your Phantom Origin Story – How did you first become a fan?

  • Your Phantom phavourites - Who are your favourite characters and creators? Which is your favourite Phantom generation or story location?
  • Future of The Phantom – What do you want to see next? A new movie? A TV series? More comics?

#301 - Frew 2025 Annual Review25 Feb 202501:09:34

The 2025 Frew annual deserves a stand alone review and we spend a good 70 minutes dissecting it. The theme for this years annual is a monster theme with 8 stories with a mixture of colour & black and white over 220+ pages. What do we like, what do we not like and what rating do we give it? Listen and or watch and find out. Do not remember to let us know what you agree and or disagree with.

Annuals are nothing new from around the world with British comics publishing them in hardcover albums during the 1950’s to the 1980’s as well as other countries publishing them. Frew published their first annual in 1991 and it was an instant hit.

Frew published their first one in 1991 and it was an instant hit. Rumours are that it sold out overnight and many collectors bought dozens as investments. Ever since, Frew has released an annual. Bar the odd year (3?), a replica edition of the Frew comics have been released. Loved by some and loathed by others but they are a staple along with the annual.

Since the Frew Crew has stood in the gap left by Jim Shepherd, they have released themed annuals with War, artists, Girl Phantom, Cowboy Phantoms, Animals of Edan and now its The Phantom vs The Monsters.

For those who want to cherry pick there way through the podcast, we have listed what we disscused and the time stamps. We would however suggest you listen / watch to the whole podcast ;)

  • History & background of the Frew annuals: 2 Minutes
  • Overall thoughts on the annual: 4 Minutes & 30 Seconds
  • Stories
    • "The Ghost and the Wolves" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 17 Minutes & 30 Seconds
    • "Nema" by Andrew Constant and Jason Paulos: 24 Minutes
    • "Looking Back" by Andrew Constant and Giancarlo Caracuzzo: 29 Minutes
    • "Golem" by Johan L. Borgnes and Hans Lindahl: 36 Minutes
    • "Kuma the Creature" by Felmang: 40 Minutes & 30 Seconds
    • "The Mummy's Curse" by Janne Lundström and Jaime Vallvé: 50 Minutes
    • "The Vampire in Carpatia" by Ulf Granberg and Jaime Vallvé: 54 Minutes & 30 Seconds
    • "Creature from the Black" by Dean Rankine and Marcelo Baez: 1 Hour
  • Our score of the annual: 1 Hour, 4 Minutes & 30 Seconds

#297 - Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth mid series review31 Dec 202400:44:22

Some phans will know that we have reviews of all of the Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth Series up on our YouTube Channel and website but we wanted to conduct a mid series review with the whole extended team. Join Stephen East, Dan Fraser and Jermayn Parker with our USA reviewer Scott Waldyn.

We love comments and feedback from the Phantom phans from around the world. You can either email us, leave your comments at our YouTube Channel, and or leave them at our social media platforms in Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.

Some of the discussion points we discuss are:

  • The Phantom being a Ghost Who Walks
  • Council of Phantoms. Do we like it? Do we hate it? Is it real?
  • Does this Phantom behave like our Phantom or any Phantoms we have read in the chronicles?
  • We discuss the oath of the Phantom being my 'son and their sons will follow' or should it be 'descendants'?
  • If the DotE Phantom is the 27th. Kurt would then be the 28th, If the DotE Phantom becomes the Phantom again, will that make him the 27th or 29th?
  • Was shrinking the mansion so Mandrake can take it in his pocket a clever way to get around the Phantom’s quandary?
  • Zuffy's transformation into a laughable character to someone with bite.
  • Lothars ex wife is mentioned. Dale is seen at end of issue 4. No mention yet of the Phantom’s wife and or Nardia.
  • With the future Mad Cave Studios sand alone series. Would we like to see it outside the DotE arc?

#295 - Behind the scenes of the Phantom video game02 Dec 202400:54:50

Stephen East, Dan Fraser and Jermayn Parker catch up with the team behind the Phantom Video Game. With pre orders for the digital version of the game now open, we thought it would be a great opportunity for us to catch up with Ash Nicholls the Director behind Art Of Play, but also two of his colleagues who have left their imprint on the game.

Go here to pre order your digital and collector boxes

Anthony Spay is the illustrator of the art from the game who has Frew and Team Fantomen credits as writer and illustrator of the comics and the third guest is Matthew Cutler who is the 2D animator for Art of Play and is behind the magic of the Phantom and Diana fighting against tyranny on our Switches, PlayStation's & X-Boxes.

For those who came in late, we have chatted with Anthony Spay before in Episode #188 (May 2021) and Ash Nicholls in Episode #242 (Feb 2023), #251 (May 2023) and #268 (Dec 2023). This is the first time Matthew Cutler has joined us on a podcast and he starts of the podcast explaining to us what he does for Art of Play and the Phantom video game.

We spend an hour talking shop and geeking out with the three creators as they spill the beans about behind the scenes information on the game. Some of the topics we chat about are:

  • How Anthony Spay got involved with the game.
  • The process of hand drawing everything to animating it.
  • What is drawn on traditional paper and what is drawn on the computer.
  • What will be happening with the original artwork?
  • The physical nature of the Phantom and Diana and how they are different to each other in the way they walk and fight.
  • The differences drawing for comics to video games
  • What is happening with the hand drawn original pencil and inked artwork?
  • Will we see a Defenders of the Earth video game?
  • The sprite backgrounds and how every one is hand drawn and unique.
  • Some of the contents for the physical Limited Run collectors edition including the art book.
  • We go over the future key dates in 2025.

#294 - Sounds of Brisbane 2024 Phan Gathering18 Nov 202401:33:49

The 100th iteration of the iconic Supanova pop culture convention, in Brisbane November 2024, was a landmark event, especially for Phantom fans who descended upon the city in numbers. This year’s gathering was a celebration of all things Phantom, with a host of activities and special guests that made it an unforgettable experience.

Among the highlights were appearances by talented Phantom cover artists Jamie Johnson, Alex Trpcevski, and Lauren Marshall. These renowned artists, each of them stars across many walks of fandom but known by Phantom phans for their work with Frew Publications, showcased their work with a range of prints, comics and commissions available . They each have recent, current, and upcoming covers which really added emphasis to the currency of our favourite character. Lauren, Alex and Jamie participated in an entertaining Phantom-themed sketch-off, much to the delight of fans who got to witness their creative process firsthand while peppering them with questions all the while.

Saturday was packed with social activities that brought the Phantom community even closer. The day began with a casual breakfast hosted by Chris and Kim Hill, where fans were treated to informal catch-ups and a delightful brekky to accompany a tour of Chris' Minor and Major Treasure Rooms in their newly established Skull Cave. It was a delight to see Chris' thoughtful displays of some incredibly rare and diverse Phantom memorabilia and connect over our shared passions.

The evening saw the inaugural Brisbane Phantom Phans’ Dinner, coordinated by the extraordinary Christopher Schaffer. This intimate gathering was set in a wonderful atmosphere, with a delicious menu and excellent company. A poignant toast was made to departed Phantom luminaries, including Lee Falk, Jim Shepherd and Richard Fry. Another highlight of the evening was a question and answer session with Shane Foley, Frew cover and story artist, who shared insights into his work and experiences, as well as passing some of his original art around for all to see. We're pleased to report that most of it got returned to him! Attendees were delighted to hear from Shane, making the dinner an even more memorable event.

Brisbane Supanova 2024 was more than just a convention for those of us with purple in our veins. Thanks to Christopher's initiative and the support of others, it was a testament to the enduring legacy of the Phantom and the vibrant community that continues to celebrate this beloved character. For those who couldn’t attend, be sure to listen to the related podcast, where you can hear interviews with the three artists at Supanova, their sketch-off, and the Q&A with Shane Foley at the dinner.

Here’s to many more gatherings and the continued adventures of the Ghost Who Walks!

#293 - Fantomen 2025 & their 75th Anniversary05 Nov 202401:35:51

Jermayn Parker is joined by Team Fantomen editors Jacob Habinc and Andreas Eriksson as he asks them all the questions about what they are planning for 2025 which so happens to be their 75th anniversary birthday!

We first start off asking about the celebrations of 2025 and what they have planned. They tell us as much as they can and yet still hold back a few surprises which will be dropped as time goes by. If you want some hints, this is the podcast to listen to.

Some of the secrets they tell us is that the celebrational issue will be in October 2025 and will feature as a double extended issue. Some of the reprint stories through out the year will be key classic stories that hold a special place in the history of the comic.

On top of the birthday celebrations, we also learn the following:

  • Some of the writers writing stories for 2025 will be Andreas Eriksson, Pidde Andersson, David Bishop and John Rassy who is back after a 7 year hiatus.
  • Some of these creators will be writing two part stories.
  • Some of the artists who will be drawing stories for 2025 are phan phav Janusz Ordon, Kasia Nie for her second story and Percy Ochoa who will be drawing his first Team Fantomen story who has previously drawn several Frew stories.
  • The Phantom will be visiting Sweden and Australia.
  • The theme for the hardcover collection will be stories from the 1970's. Can you guess the theme?
  • 2025 will see other covers tailored for events like conventions like they did for Uppsala comic convention in 2024.

In addition to answering questions about 2025, we took the time to ask other generic editorial questions. For example:

  • What does Jacob Habinc look for in reprinting Frew and or Bastei stories?
  • What are their views on AI and comics
  • Different art styles including Rafael Ruiz' new style.
  • Would they prefer a Phantom movie and or a TV show?
  • How closely do they follow the latest developments from the newspaper stories with Kit in the Himalayas, the updated office in the Commanders office and if past Phantoms need to follow the costume design designed by Jeff Weigel.
  • If they could change one thing about the Phantom or their job with money not being a hinderance, what would it be?

We would love your opinions on what we discuss in this podcast. You can email us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat via our social media profiles with your feedback at Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.

#289 - Our Phantom Big Questions01 Sep 202400:52:08

The team does not get a chance to nerd out too much by discussing the Phantom in finer details. This podcast fixes that with one podcasters wife commenting that this is perhaps our nerdiest conversation ever!

We will discuss two big questions: Is it ethical for the Phantom to have a major treasure room and is the key to the Phantoms future, the digital comic? To join in this discussion we have Seuj Abir from India joining Dan Fraser, Stephen East and Jermayn Parker.

We would love your opinions on what we discuss in this podcast. You can email us at chroniclechamber@gmail.com or chat via our social media profiles with your feedback at Facebook, Twitter and or Instagram.

For those who have come in late, The Major Treasure Room houses artefacts from around the world throughout history that the Phantom has rescued or has been given to by people he has interacted with. The sole aim is to protect these items from fire, flood and destruction.

Throughout the past 60 odd years when it was first introduced, we have had stories created by from various Newspaper, Team Fantomen, Fratelli Spada and RGE creators. There has been nearly 100 different artefacts shown or have had stories written about them.

When the room was conceived by Lee Falk, the world was crazy coming off the second world war with various looted treasures being found. However is that still the case and should they be returned?

Our second and last Phantom hard question we will discuss in this podcast is the power of the digital comic. We have seen Lightning Strikes announcing their new monthly digital anthology, Comics Kingdom adding more importance with their digital daily comic website and three comic publishers in Frew, Fantomen and Mad Cave Studios releasing digital content.

Is it time for the Phantom to be pushed digitally more? Can the phantom comic survive without a digital presence?

#288 - Sounds from Norway & Sweden 2024 Conventions18 Aug 202400:26:06

During May 2024 there were a few comic conventions being held in Norway and Sweden. Thanks to phan Kristian Hellesund who has helped us with the recordings from the events we can now present them to you. It is a great opportunity to hear from some creators from around the world.

During this podcast we will hear from a panel discussion between Arild Wærness, Cormac Hughes, Knut Robert Knutsen and Kristian Hellesund. They will talk about their Phantom contributions including the Lightning Strikes comics.

The other Phantom artist we hear from are Mike Collins as he talks about about his history with the character, who he would like to see drawing the Phantom, his favourite stories, comparing him to other comic heroes and how to write stories from an African perspective.

As you would expect, a lot of the panels and discussions were held in the native spoken language which while are not included in this podcast will be uploaded on our website and YouTube Channel. If you do not speak Norwegian and Swedish, YouTube does allow automatic subtitles so if your nerdy enough, we would recommend clicking on that button.

We will hear from phan, writer and editor Andreas Eriksson, fans writers of the Norwegian story that was originally published in Lightning Strikes Arild Wærness and Knut Robert Knutsen plus an interview from Kristian Hellesund with Fantomen writer Sverre Arnes who wrote 20 stories in the 1990's.

A huge thanks goes to Kristian Hellesund for the recordings and helping us collect these.

#284 - Introducing Djordje Djokovic the NECA Figurine Designer19 Jun 202401:59:59

Dan Fraser and Jermayn Parker interview the man behind the NECA figurines in Djordje Djokovic. He talks to us all about the very popular figurines featuring the Phantom in the Defenders of the Earth and Original Superhero's range. You will learn how important he was to ensure NECA went ahead in the figurines being made.

On our YouTube channel, we show a lot of photos of the process, original art and prototypes. If you love learning behind the scenes information, this is for you.

Some of the subjects we discuss are:

  • His views on the Defenders of the Earth and Phantom 2040 tv show, figurines and his favourite artists
  • What is special about the Phantom to him
  • His life calling in the figurine industry and how his graphic design skills helped him go from the "Four Horsemen" to "NECA"
  • His thoughts on the Phantom 2040, 1996 movie and Defenders of the Earth shows, figurines and toys
  • What does a sculptor do?
  • The process of the NECA Defenders of the Earth figurines
  • How Djordje sold the concept of the NECA Defenders of the Earth figurines to Randy Falk?
  • The idea behind why Zuffy was included with the Phantom in the NECA Defenders of the Earth figurine set
  • How Djordje managed to sell the idea of the Defenders of the Earth figurine set to Randy Falk and NECA
  • The story behind the packaging and why it resembles the original Galoob figurines.
  • Djordje shows us the original drawings of the packaging including the Phantom for both sets
  • The logo design and how the new logo takes after the British version which includes Lothar unlike the Italian and Galoop design
  • Djordje teases future plans with NECA and the Phantom. (Note: this would have included the Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth new comic series which also features Djordje as cover artist)
  • Addressing the issue on the Defenders of the Earth figurines needing a warm bath before usage and how it was fixed for the Original Superhero series
  • Djordje and his experience connecting with Phantom phans, the Friends of the Phantom Sardi's luncheon and meeting Sy and David Barry
  • Asks us some questions about how the NECA figurines were received in Australia
  • Djordje shows us some early prototypes of the NECA figurines and goes over the process from original sculpts, to molds, to China, to prototype painters, to toolers, to printing, to unpainted final prototype and then to final packaging

Please note, we recorded this podcast before the official announcement of the Mad Cave Studios Defenders of the Earth new comic series which also features Djordje Djokovic as the cover artist. So while we now all know he is one of the artists, we skirted around the discussion during the recording of the podcast.

You can follow Djordje Djokovic on his social platforms at @djordjedjokovicart.
