| Can Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Transform Your Mind and Your Life? I Lessons From a BJJ Referee Marcelo Coppa (ep 240) | 06 Apr 2026 | 01:28:07 | |
Can Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Transform Your Mind and Your Life? What does Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu really teach about discipline, philosophy, and personal development? In this episode of the WS Podcast, Marcelo Coppa — head referee of UKBJJ and international referee for IBJJF — joins Wojciech Salski to explore the deeper lessons behind Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, competition, and the mindset required to grow in the sport and in life. Marcelo shares his journey into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, beginning with a chance encounter that challenged the Hollywood stereotype of martial arts. What he discovered instead was a culture built on respect, discipline, and personal growth. The conversation explores the evolution of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over the past two decades, including how the internet, competition circuits, and global federations have transformed the sport. Marcelo explains the crucial role referees play in shaping the rules of the sport and how rule sets influence the way techniques are taught and applied in competition. We also dive into the philosophy behind Jiu-Jitsu. Marcelo discusses how ideas from Taoism and classical philosophy influence the way practitioners approach training, conflict, and self-improvement. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu becomes not just a martial art, but a laboratory for understanding the connection between mind, body, and spirit. The episode also explores the benefits of Jiu-Jitsu for personal development. Marcelo explains how the pressure of training and competition teaches resilience, patience, and strategic thinking — skills that translate far beyond the mats. We also discuss why Jiu-Jitsu can be particularly valuable for children and young people, helping them develop confidence, discipline, and the ability to navigate conflict without aggression. If you're interested in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, martial arts philosophy, competition mindset, or personal growth through sport, this episode offers a fascinating perspective from one of the most experienced referees in the global BJJ community. | What Does Ramadan Really Teach About Discipline, Faith and Marriage? with Rami Lahham (ep. 239) | 30 Mar 2026 | 01:15:01
What does Ramadan really teach about discipline, faith, and personal growth? In this episode of the WS Podcast, Rami joins Wojciech Salski to discuss the deeper meaning of Ramadan, the power of fasting, and how faith and shared values shape relationships and marriage. Ramadan, the holy month in Islam, is often understood simply as a time of fasting from food and water. But as Rami explains, its deeper purpose goes far beyond physical restraint. Ramadan is a period of reflection, discipline, and spiritual growth where people strive to break bad habits, practice kindness, and strengthen their connection to faith. In this conversation, we explore how fasting builds self-discipline and mental resilience. Rami shares personal experiences of overcoming everyday habits like coffee, snacking, and swearing during Ramadan, highlighting how the practice helps reset the mind and strengthen willpower. The discussion also examines the surprising parallels between Ramadan and other spiritual traditions such as Lent in Christianity, where fasting serves as a form of purification and reflection. We also explore the physiological aspects of fasting, including ketosis and autophagy, and why many people today experiment with intermittent fasting for health and longevity. Beyond fasting, the episode turns to deeper topics such as marriage, shared values, and the role of faith in relationships. Rami reflects on his personal journey of discovering Islam later in life and how shared spiritual values create a strong foundation for marriage. The conversation also touches on cultural wedding traditions in Arab communities, the importance of intention in relationships, and why couples benefit from sharing a common purpose and belief system. This episode offers a thoughtful exploration of discipline, spirituality, relationships, and personal growth, showing how practices like Ramadan fasting can transform both habits and perspectives on life. As I am preparing the new 'Books Worth Reading' series, I thought about giving you some well-needed encouragement to read more or start reading, if you still have not. I look forward to hearing your suggestions regarding the next book series and wish you a great, truly great reading spree… Of course, I will also offer you a challenge for the week, and give you a healthy dose of optimism necessary to make your time worthwhile. | Do Not Sell Yourself Short (ep. 126) | 31 Jul 2023 | 00:25:35
In this week's episode, I will reflect on my recent encounter with a stranger, who decided it would be fitting for them to be interviewed on my podcast. Without an invitation, without compensation. This rather out-of-the-ordinary experience made me think of the way I perceive my work and how we tend to 'sell ourselves short' from time to time. Considering this, I have decided to offer you this episode with its open questions and slightly provocative concerns about the way people sometimes take advantage of our kindness. As I paint a vision for my podcast's future, I present to you a piece about self-appreciation, self-reliance, and assertiveness. I hope it will be helpful. Of course, I will also offer you a challenge for the week, and give you a healthy dose of optimism necessary to make your time worthwhile. All the love, all the power, all of the time! | Your Mastermind Group (ep. 125) | 24 Jul 2023 | 00:20:50
In this week's episode, I will reflect on my recent discussion with a friend regarding a support system our friends, acquaintances, and family members can provide us with. Thinking of strengthening our striving for success, I will invite you to consider developing a deeper relationship with your allies and creating a sort of a 'Mastermind Group' inspired by Napoleon Hill's Think and Grow Rich book. We will reflect on how talking about our experiences and problems with others can help us make the most of them and overcome difficulties connected with them, and see whether surrounding yourself with a purpose-driven group can help you on your journey. Of course, I will also offer you a challenge for the week, and give you a healthy dose of optimism necessary to make your time worthwhile. All the love, all the power, all of the time! | Meaningful Discourse (ep. 124) | 18 Jul 2023 | 00:18:15
In this week's episode, I will reflect on my recent experiences and inspire you to consider 'what is meaningful to you'. Contemplating the passage of time and thinking of the reasons to continue with my daily efforts, I am offering you a journey into the depths of your psyche. What makes you tick? What are you willing to work towards? Why should you continue with your efforts? What makes your life worth living? These and many other questions will be posed on this unique, rather different, and certainly one-day late episode of the podcast. Moreover, we will reflect on the way our emotional states are impacted by holidays, extraordinary activities, and things we do daily. To make your day a little easier and the effort a little more worthwhile - that is the quest of this episode. | Be More Real [on Social Media] (ep. 123) | 10 Jul 2023 | 00:22:16
In this week's episode, I will bring back the thoughts shared by Mo Gawdat in his book 'Scary Smart' and put them in the context of being more 'real', when engaging with social media. Inspired by the reading and the discussions I've been having surrounding the topic, I would like to offer you a space to consider 'how you show up in the world as well as online'. Moreover, we will reflect on the way our emotional states are impacted by online engagement. We will put it all together and try to address the challenge of ensuring that the AI of the future (a.k.a. the AI of the now) is going to see humans who love, appreciate, and stay kind to one another, and not humans who hate, offend and cause suffering to one another. An important, slightly heavy subject. Certainly something worth pondering. In the final episode of the 8th Season, I would like to talk about an important and imperative to one's well-being topic of mental health. Inspired by a recent discussion with my friend and recognizing the landscape of suffering on the plane of mental health in our time, I am going to approach the subject by reflecting on my healthcare habits. | Forgive & Let Go (ep. 113) | 24 Apr 2023 | 00:19:04
This week I am going to try and tackle the topic of seeing our reflection in others and forgiving those who have done us wrong. Inspired by my experience and a beautiful quote shared by a friend of mine a while ago, I will invite you to consider just how much of the way we see the world and react towards it is embedded in our self-reflection. Moreover, I will approach the subject of forgiveness through the lens of the Bible and try to make the case supporting an assumption that the best way of achieving peace and alleviating suffering comes through forgiving those who failed to treat us right. I hope this episode will help you to free yourself from the shackles of resentment and bitterness and open your heart to the unique lesson, which comes from seeing the world as a reflection of ourselves. As always, I will offer you a little challenge for the week and remind you to live your best life… To simply be your best. Inspired by my recent rejoining of the Jiu Jitsu class and settling process in Edinburgh, I hope to bring you some well-deserved and needed reminder about the impermanence of life's aspects and the healing quality of keeping 'a begginer's mindset'. I will reflect on the works of Dr. Jordan B. Peterson in this regard and offer you a little dose of positive encouragement for the days and goals to come. As always, I will offer you a little challenge for the week and remind you to live your best life… To simply be your best. All the love, all the power, all of the time…

| Your Time with Another (ep. 110) | 03 Apr 2023 | 00:18:42 | |
This week, I will invite you to consider the 'time we all have left with our loved ones'. Reflecting on the quality and pricelessness of moments that each of us can share with those we love, I will draw on the recent conversation I had with my Granny and offer you a little nudge of consideration regarding the value we place (or should place) on those rare moments shared with our family, friends, and loved ones. I hope this episode will inspire you to make the most of the time you have with those you love and that your thoughts and intentions will enrich the relationships you cherish. As always, I will offer you a little challenge for the week and invite you to watch the video of the 'Kurzgesagt' channel, to which I have placed the link below. | Reflection of Patience (ep. 109) | 28 Mar 2023 | 00:23:47
This week's episode focuses on the two, closely interlinked, ideas of patience and reflection, which I have been pondering lately. As I am searching for my next major project and finishing up with the recent assignment, I want to explore the idea of patient awaiting, once the seeds of our plans are planted. During this episode, I will also add the topic of reflection, especially self-reflection in the context of these plans, sketches, and reality checks each of us faces from time to time. I hope this episode will help you review your worries and let go of some of the impatient impulses you may be experiencing. It may also serve you as a mindful reminder that sometimes it is good to simply 'be here'. As per usual, I will offer you a little challenge and a question to ponder and engage with throughout the week.
| Snapshots & Spontaneous Life (ep. 108) | 20 Mar 2023 | 00:22:04 | |
In this week's episode, I am going to share with you a 'snapshot' from my recent trip to Malaga, Spain. I have had the pleasure of enjoying three weeks of January Sun in this coastal city of Spain, where, alongside my two best friends, I partied, explored, and polished my language skills. Inspired by the memories, I want to invite you to consider the two major themes of the story: planning vs spontaneity, and 'being in the moment'. I will talk about these two topics and consider the utility of different approaches regarding them. At the end of it all, I will give you a little challenge for the week, so you could explore what it means to you to 'take a snapshot' of your life. As always, I wish you all the love and all the power in your weekly adventures!
| A Picture of Silence (ep. 107) | 13 Mar 2023 | 00:22:28 | |
In this week's episode, I am going to share with you a little story, which emerged from an image that appeared in my head a few days ago. Inspired by recent conversations with my close friends, I've decided to tackle the concepts of 'planning', 'norm', and 'silence'… I will read this sentence-sketched painting of mine and offer you an invitation to simply consider how comfortable are you with silence in its many forms. I hope that this episode will be the trigger for you to engage with a daily practice that supports your mental health, your self-awareness, and your self-love while empowering the relationships that matter in your life. As per usual, I will offer you a little challenge and a question to ponder and engage with throughout the week.
| Enjoying the Passage of Time (ep. 106) | 06 Mar 2023 | 00:21:14 | |
In this week's episode, I am going to share with you the idea of 'the meaning of life' from the perspective of time. I have recently encountered a quote from someone's podcast that stated that 'the meaning of life is to enjoy the passage of time'. I will also reflect on the privileges, which I believe both me and you are blessed with, and offer a little invitation to consider the nature of our time spending and its utility in the broader sense. In appreciation for your time, as you listen to my time's expression, I hope to inspire a better expenditure of your time in the days that follow… As per usual, I will offer you a little challenge and a question to ponder and engage with throughout the week. | Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost (ep. 105) | 27 Feb 2023 | 00:16:21
In the first episode of the 8th Season, I am going to share with you the turmoil and the reflections of that turmoil, with which I have been dealing over the past few weeks. Upon starting the year I found that much of my motivation and planning is simply nowhere to be found, and that made me wonder. Reflecting on this shift in my perspective, I want to discuss with you a few passages and ideas from books such as 'The Lord of the Rings', '12 Rules for Life', and the concept of the meaning of life. In celebration of life, as it is, I want to invite you to simply 'let go and see', what there is to be seen… As per usual, I will offer you a little invitation for a mindful practice in the coming days. And may I finish with this: whatever you do in the days that follow, just be sure you stay true to yourself in the process… All the love, all the power, all of the time… If you'd like to have a read:

As the final episode of the year, I have created a monologue-based piece about my adventures in Kuwait. Over the past seven months, I have lived, worked, and traveled in this Middle Eastern country of extreme heat and highly-combustive oil, and found myself learning about different concepts that surround the space of one's life. A special episode to commemorate this unique experience, share the lessons and thoughts taken from it, and offer you a glimpse of the Kuwaiti reality. I hope it will help you enjoy the journeys of your own life. Good luck in the next year, have a wonderful journey and see you down the road…

| "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder (ep. 101) | 21 Nov 2022 | 00:22:40 | |
In the eighth episode, I present you with the wonderful and insightful book by Jostein Gaarder "Sophie's World". In this novel, the author invites us to explore the depths of Western philosophies, as we know them while telling a beautiful story about Sophie - a Norvegian teenager, whose life suddenly changes course due to a mysterious letter she encounters. It is a worthy read for both the amateurs and the borderline fanatics of philosophical discourse. As we explore the story, we get to face questions worth pondering and observe our thoughts of ours, which stem from thinking these thought-provoking ideas. Reflecting on the book's impression on me, I will mention my perspective on philosophical and religious education in Poland, as well as invite you to consider some rather abstract concepts worth a ponder. As always, I will offer you a little invitation to exercise the might of your mind! If you do get to read it following my invitation, make sure to let me know your thoughts! Maybe, it will be the book to change your life as well… All the love, all the power, all of the time… If you'd like to have a read:
| "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho (ep. 100) | 14 Nov 2022 | 00:22:25 | |
The seventh book of the 7th season is one of the underdogs among the novels of this world. A truly beautiful, inspiring, and full of wonder piece by Paulo Coelho "The Alchemist". This fable pulls all the right strings and offers an observant reader a true self-reflection. Filled with centuries-old wisdom, Paulo's book will leave you empowered and amazed. Reflecting on its participation in my personal journey, I will touch on a few major topics the book has evoked in my young heart, and invite you to consider the curious phenomenon of synchronicity and fate. As it is a novel, I shall refrain from telling you more than this… If you do get to read it following my invitation, make sure to let me know your thoughts! | "Shantaram" by Gregory David Roberts (ep. 99) | 07 Nov 2022 | 00:20:35
The sixth book of the 7th season is a true-story novel mastepiece by Gregory David Roberts "Shantaram". A real life tale of a fugitive, who, after escaping the Australian prison, comes to 1980s Mombay and starts a new chapter of his life. Truly inspiring, philosophical, at times graphic, and extremely mesmerizing, it is, by far, my favourite real-life-based novel of all. Throughout the episode, I shall share with you some parts of the book and explore the concepts and themes that resonated with me, as I kept swimming through the deep seas of this wonderful piece of writing. As it is a novel, I shall refrain from telling you more than this… If you do get to read it following my invitation, make sure to let me know your thoughts!
