| Don't Have That One Mate: The Evolution of Pirate Radio - Tunes FM: Pirate Radio from Glasgow | 11 Feb 2023 | 00:19:48 | |
Jack Shaw is Glasgow's number one pirate DJ and Tunes FM is Glasgow's premier pirate radio station. The cassette labelled “Tape 04” has been digitally rendered and updated for release. The tunes are still pretty amazing - some complaints do start though. The requests become so obscure that Jack can’t seem to find the tunes - white labels such as “DJ Ruff Style - Every Time I Eat Vegetables It Makes Me Think Of You (A Ramones Cover)” just don’t come easy to find anymore. The groundwork is laid for Jack’s night at Archaos - Dark Matter - to be a massive success but, as always, there are some really cheeky text messages coming through. Hosted on Acast. | The Tragic Tale of Joan of Arc's Unjust Trial and Legacy | 09 Jan 2023 | 00:36:23
Joan of Arc, also known as the Maid of Orleans, was a young woman who rose to fame during the Hundred Years' War between France and England. She is widely regarded as a heroine and a symbol of French patriotism, but she also had a dark chapter in her life. The trial of Joan of Arc is one of the most notorious examples of injustice in European history. In this article, we will delve into the details of her trial and explore the reasons why she was considered a heretic. After being captured by the English in 1430, Joan was imprisoned and put on trial for heresy. Despite her many attempts to escape, she was eventually put in the hands of the Inquisitors, who subjected her to brutal interrogation and torture. The purpose of these tortures was to extract a confession of heresy, which would allow the English to justify her execution. The charges against Joan were numerous and baseless. She was accused of dressing as a man, a crime in the eyes of the church. She was also accused of claiming to have been sent by God on a mission to expel the English from France, which was considered blasphemy. Despite her many attempts to clear her name, the Inquisitors were determined to find her guilty of heresy. The trial of Joan was a farce of justice, with the outcome predetermined by the Inquisitors and the English. Joan was given no opportunity to defend herself or call witnesses in her defence. The verdict was a foregone conclusion, and she was sentenced to death by burning at the stake. This tragic event took place on May 30, 1431, and marked the end of one of the most inspiring figures in French history. Despite her tragic end, Joan of Arc remains a symbol of courage, bravery, and patriotism for the French people. Her story continues to inspire generations and her legacy lives on to this day. She is remembered as a hero who fought for her country and her beliefs, and who suffered greatly for it. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

| Exploring the Mind of Serial Killer Dennis Nilsen | 21 Nov 2022 | 00:40:15 | |
The Infamous Killer Dennis Nilsen: An Exploration of the Mind of a Serial Murderer. Dennis Nilsen, born on November 23, 1945, was a notorious serial killer who committed several heinous crimes in London during the late 1970s and early 1980s. His acts of violence left a deep scar in the minds of the British people, making him one of the most notorious serial killers in modern history. In this article, we will explore the life and crimes of Dennis Nilsen and try to understand what could have driven him to commit such horrific acts. Dennis Nilsen was born in Fraserburgh, Scotland, to a working-class family. Despite his parents' love and care, Nilsen suffered a traumatic childhood due to the death of his father and brother at an early age. This, coupled with his own feelings of insecurity and loneliness, created a deep sense of isolation and disconnection from the world around him. Nilsen began his career in the British Army, serving in various locations around the world. He eventually settled in London and worked as a civil servant. It was during this time that he began to commit his first crimes. Nilsen would lure young men and boys to his home, where he would kill them and then keep their bodies for months or even years before disposing of them. Nilsen's crimes were eventually uncovered by the police when a drain outside his home was found to be clogged with human flesh and bones. He was arrested and eventually charged with six counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. During his trial, Nilsen admitted to killing 15 people, making him one of the most prolific serial killers in modern history. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

| Hoover: The worst sales promotion, ever | 22 Sep 2022 | 00:36:40 | |
27 years ago, Hoover offered two free flights with any £100 purchase. Today, it’s possibly the worst sales promotion of all time. In 1992, the UK branch of the vacuum manufacturer, Hoover, offered a sweet promotion: If a customer bought any product worth £100, he’d get two free round-trip flights to the United States! For the 84-year-old electronics brand, it was meant to be an eye-catching way to boost dwindling sales, escape the gloom of a recession, and shrug off increased competition. Instead, it led to the destruction of the company — a precipitous downfall that saw multimillion-dollar losses and customer revolts. | Charlie Chaplin | 08 Aug 2022 | 00:41:22
Charlie Chaplin (Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin Jr. KBE) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. Chaplin wrote, directed, produced, edited, starred in, and composed the music for most of his films. He was a perfectionist, and his financial independence enabled him to spend years on the development and production of a picture. His films are characterised by slapstick combined with pathos, typified in the Tramp's struggles against adversity. Many contain social and political themes, as well as autobiographical elements. He received an Honorary Academy Award for "the incalculable effect he has had in making motion pictures the art form of this century" in 1972, as part of a renewed appreciation for his work. | Parasite: A Masterpiece Of Dark Humor And Social Commentary | 18 Jul 2022 | 01:22:50
In “Parasite,” South Korean director Bong Joon-ho presents a darkly humorous tale of two families – one wealthy and one struggling to make ends meet. The Kim family, our protagonists, are an example of the latter, living in a cramped basement apartment and hustling to make a living. In stark contrast, the Parks are the epitome of wealth and privilege. Living in a luxurious mansion, they are entirely unaware of the struggles of those less fortunate. As the film progresses, the lives of the two families become intertwined in unexpected and often hilarious ways. Throughout “Parasite,” Bong Joon-ho expertly explores the complex dynamics of class struggles and the vast divide between the rich and poor. The film is a biting critique of a society that values wealth above all else, and a commentary on the lengths that people will go to in order to secure a better life for themselves and their families. From start to finish, “Parasite” is a rollercoaster of emotions – a deft blend of comedy, tragedy, and suspense. Bong Joon-ho expertly balances these elements, keeping the audience on the edge of their seat one minute and doubled over with laughter the next. In conclusion, “Parasite” is a masterpiece of dark humor and social commentary. With its talented cast, sharp writing, and insightful exploration of class struggles, it’s a film that is sure to leave a lasting impression long after the credits roll. Hosted on Acast. It removed Russia from the war and brought about the transformation of the Russian Empire into the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), replacing Russia’s traditional monarchy with the world’s first Communist state. The revolution happened in stages through two separate coups, one in February and one in October. The new government, led by Vladimir Lenin, would solidify its power only after three years of civil war, which ended in 1920. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

| True Crime: Dennis Rader - The BTK Killer | 14 Apr 2022 | 00:49:18 | |
If you are listening on Spotify, please leave a rating x Our True Crime series continues and features Dennis Rader - The BTK Killer. Jack and Colin will answer the question - what is the best true crime podcast? - with their sideways look at some of the world’s most notorious serial killers and deranged maniacs. Dennis Lynn Rader (born March 9, 1945) is an American serial killer known as BTK (an abbreviation he gave himself, for "bind, torture, kill"), the BTK Strangler or the BTK Killer. Between 1974 and 1991, Rader killed ten people in Wichita and Park City, Kansas, and sent taunting letters to police and newspapers describing the details of his crimes. After a decade-long hiatus, Rader resumed sending letters in 2004, leading to his 2005 arrest and subsequent guilty plea. He is serving ten consecutive life sentences at El Dorado Correctional Facility in Prospect Township, Butler County, Kansas.
