Send us a text

Our friend Martin Harries joined us to discuss Prano Bailey-Bond's first feature film from 2021.

We had a lovely ramble, as always.
Detours include: The UK ratings system, Mac watching all the SAW kills on YouTube, how much we all love Michael Smiley, and whether or not media is ever to blame for our behavior.

Martin was a lovely guest, as always! Please go check out his podcast, Film Vs. Film!

Martin has previously joined us on Episodes 121, 94, 90, and 65.

eXistenZ: Episode 139: Squishy Body Horror Part 2: God, the Mechanic14 Jun 202401:15:18

Send us a text

WoHos!

We go on quite a ramble on a number of subjects. Definitely check out the Chapter Markers for this one, if you are just here for the film talk.

I make a number of references to the first conversation we had about eXistenZ.  By way of explanation, awhile back, we had paired eXistenZ with TETSUO: THE IRON MAN, but the episode was lost. We are splitting our body horror shows into squishy body horror and metallic body horror. Part 1 of squishy was SOCIETY and for our metallic series, we are looking at TETSUO: THE IRON MAN and TITANE.

Next time, we are looking at Exploitation films with THE HILLS HAVE EYES (1977) from the US and a yet-to-be-determined International film (HIGH LANE, which was originally on the docket is only available in our area in a dubbed form and I cannot). Stay tuned!

After that, we are doing a pair that I have been looking forward to all year: Grim AF movies with BRAZIL from the UK and WHEN EVIL LURKS/CUANDO ACECHA LA MALDAD from Argentina.

SIEGE (1983) Episode 49: Stefan MacDonald-Labelle Special Guest: Oh, Canada! Pt 1: Bonus24 Nov 202101:27:27

Send us a text

 WoHos!

This week we have a special guest on the podcast, filmmaker and podcaster (and now, friend of the show), Stefan MacDonald-Labelle! He is an actual Canadian man and he brought us two really great Canadian films: SIEGE & ANYTHING FOR JACKSON. We had such a great time that we had to split the shows into two pieces. This is part one wherein we discuss the Canuxploitation classic, SIEGE. It's wild, you guys.

Mac and Quinn joined me to welcome Stefan and get real northern with it.

Tangents include: How nice are Canadians, really? Is liking musicals like the cilantro gene? When Meg Ryan went against type and turned in her "sweetheart" card,  those things we need our own personal trigger warnings for, what Mark Duplass' facial expressions say about him, Tom Nardini's racist profile pic on IMDb.  (Judge for yourself:
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0621365/), Canada's wild home renovations, a specifically Canadian form of toxic masculinity and more.

Stefan's podcast is "Drag Mitch to Hell". Please check it out.
Stefan's website is https://www.terminalburrower.com/ Please do likewise.

Our linktree is linktr.ee/WorldofHorror

Stay tuned for Part 2. We're going to cover ANYTHING FOR JACKSON next time and then we forge ahead into Season 4 of the podcast! Wah-Hoo!

Remember. We love you! DON'T go into the basement!!

GRAVE ENCOUNTERS & GONJIAM: HAUNTED ASYLUM Episode 48: Fully Committed14 Nov 202101:22:25

Send us a text

WoHo's!

This week for the final regular episode of S3, we looked at the 2011 Canadian found footage cult classic, GRAVE ENCOUNTERS and the 2018 Korean modern variation on a theme, GONJIAM: HAUNTED ASYLUM.

We also discuss favorite movies from October, Uhh Yeah Dude, Mom's zoomie cat, Rosey, and how gosh darned nice it is to record together in the same room!!

Join us next week for a spotlight on Canada, as we welcome filmmaker, podcaster and all-around nice fellow, Stefan MacDonald-LaBelle, to discuss SIEGE (1983) & ANYTHING FOR JACKSON (2020).

Thanks so much for all your support! We are closing in on one year of podcasting and we are really enjoying this. We are looking to do more pairings like we did this week between an American (or in this case Canadian), film and an International film. If you have any bright ideas on that score or on anything else, please get in touch!

13 SINS / 13 BELOVED Episode 47: Don't Do Me Like That, Bro!02 Nov 202101:46:30

Send us a text

WoHo's!!

This week we looked at the Thai horror comedy 13 BELOVED/13: GAME OF DEATH and the American remake 13 SINS.

Content notes: In Mac and Mom chat we talk about making art, Mom's supportive bf and autumn in North Carolina. In the main, we make casual references to capitalism, toxic masculinity, lazy writing and offensive portrayals of intellectually disabled people, per usual, and refer to THE SQUID GAME, ALICE IN BORDERLAND, DOPESICK and MAYHEM.

Here's that Thai Insurance commercial I was telling you about:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6CSQvdfTKY

Join us in two weeks for the final episode of Season 3 where we look the Hong Kong/Singaporean THE EYE and the American remake, THE EYE.

THE FLY (1958 & 1986) Episode 45: Beyond the Veil of the Flesh22 Oct 202101:17:46

Send us a text

WoHos!

 Hubris, meet housefly.

This week Mac and I looked at the 1958 classic B movie, THE FLY, and the masterpiece that is the 1986 update, THE FLY.

Other topics discussed: Mac has a triumph at work, Mom may be teaching a psychopath (but she's cool with it) and the disturbing wealth of flies in the 50's. Also very minor spoilers for THE SQUID GAME, COME TRUE, SWEETHEART & THE GREEN INFERNO.

Coming soon (next week)! a Quinnisode on "Not So Scary Halloween Movies" and (in a week and a half or so) Mac and I will review 13 BELOVED (2006) from Thailand and 13 SINS (2014).

BLACK SWAN & PERFECT BLUE Episode 44: Black & Blue03 Oct 202101:34:14

Send us a text

Hi, there, WoHos!!

This week we watched the 1997 Satoshi Kon psychological thriller, PERFECT BLUE and the 2010 Darren Aronofsky knock off, BLACK SWAN.

Both films concern a young artist who has a psychological break as she is trying to navigate the professional and creative pressures she faces.

We thought PERFECT BLUE had a clearer vision than BLACK SWAN, but at least one of us would watch BLACK SWAN  again.

Hey. You know how podcasters often ask for ratings, subscriptions and reviews? We don't typically do that, but we are trying to grow WoHo nation, so to that end I have created a fill-in-the-blanks review form at the bottom. Choose the words and phrases that match your sentiments and cut and paste your completed form into the podcast platform of your choosing, won't you?

In two weeks Mac and I are back with the 1958 Vincent Price classic, THE FLY and the 1986 Jeff Goldblum classic, THE FLY. At some point this month we hope to have the interview we alluded to in the show as well as a Quinnisode with "not too scary" Halloween movies featuring ARSENIC AND OLD LACE and E.T. (It was only a matter of time).

We love you. DON'T go into the basement.

A DIY Review Form

World of Horror with Mom and Mac is a(n) excellent/fun/terrific podcast! I love/admire/envy the chemistry between the hosts. They are so funny/insightful/dynamic, I can only imagine how beautiful/gorgeous/attractive they are. I also appreciate/disagree with most of their takes on international and American films. I only wish they would do more films from India/Russia/Canada/____________(your choice). Since starting to listen to World of Horror, my life has gotten significantly better/much more delightful/just all-round better. Do yourself a favor and download this life-changing/life-affirming podcast today!

It's just that easy, WoHo's.

FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR & RIVER'S EDGE Episode 43: A Coupla Picks From '8625 Sep 202100:56:19

Send us a text

Hey, Q-Balls!

Something came up for Mac this week so we are pushing the main episode one week. Quinn stepped in to do an impromptu "emergency" podcast, though. And it is weird!

In 1986, Quinn was getting ready for kindergarten and Christina was getting ready to graduate high school. Less historically important, 1986 was the year that FLIGHT OF THE NAVIGATOR and RIVER'S EDGE came out. So that is what we talk about on this pod.

We also go down an "indie queens" ramble at the end and we get a little shady toward one Darren Aronofsky.

It's a wild one, Q-Balls! Next time on the main, Mac and I will be discussing PERFECT BLUE and BLACK SWAN and next time on the Quinnisode we will be talking "not so scary" Halloween picks, ARSENIC AND OLD LACE & E.T.

We hope you'll listen and enjoy!! And tell a friend or two!

Until next time,

Send us a text

WoHos!

For episode six, we thought we'd do a couple of Mom's picks: MEMORIES OF MURDER & ROBOCOP.

In the Mom and Mac chat we get a little morbid with it and talk about Mom's Mom's passing and the premature death of  Mom'scat. RIP Diana 9/5/21 and Wolfie 9/12/21.

Next week Mac and I discuss PERFECT BLUE & BLACK SWAN.

SUSPIRIA (1977 & 2018) Episode 41: Mother of Sighs? More Like Mother of Whys...Amirite? Uptop!27 Aug 202102:04:36

Send us a text

WoHos!

This week Mac and I chatted about the 1977 original Italian witch flick, SUSPIRIA and the 2018 American remake.

Just how much does Mom dislike Dakota Johnson? Just how much did Mac dislike Tilda Swinton in all her prostheses?

But we did have love for the 1977 original and not just because it was a full hour shorter, though that didn't hurt!

Content Note: In the Mom and Mac chat we discuss: job dissatisfaction, fears over COVID, Mom's Mom's hospitalization, being sick, but not with COVID, a solicitation from an outfit called podstatus.com and being grateful. In the main discussion we cover: the kills, why remake a film if you are going to undo the genius of the original, why cast Dakota Johnson (Mom really doen't like Dakota Johnson), sloppy and harmful anaolgies, indulgent directors and actors and  shortcuts that make us mad. In the special interview, Mac, Quinn and I spoke with Karen Rontowski about ghosts, curses, attachments, demons and haunted places.

Did we get it right? We'd love to hear what you think!

Sorry about the dropouts at Daniel's death! Please keep listening.

In two weeks we are back discussing two of Mom's faves: MEMORIES OF MURDER (Streaming for free in the US on Hulu and for rent on YouTube, Prime and Apple TV) and ROBOCOP (1987), which is streaming in the US on Pluto and YouTube for free and for rent on Prime and Apple TV.

JU-ON: THE GRUDGE & THE GRUDGE (2004 & 2020) Episode 40: Watashiwa Karen11 Aug 202101:29:18

Send us a text

WoHos!

This week we looked at the Japanese original JU-ON: THE GRUDGE and the American remakes from 2004 and 2020.

This is kind of a short one (like the original and far, far superior) version! We learned that you need more than a blonde actress, some haunted garbage or a John Cho cameo to make either of the remakes worth your time!
Watch SEARCHING with John Cho instead or POSSESSOR  with Amdrea Riseborough or THE WIRE with Frankie Faison!

We hope you'll listen and enjoy.

VERTIGO, THE BABYSITTER, THE PARENT TRAP, US, THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT & THE STEPFATHER Episode 39: Who Am I Here? Double Life Movies05 Aug 202101:33:27

Send us a text

Hi, Q-Balls!!

This week we discuss movies related to the theme of "double life".

Content Notes: In the opening chat we discuss: Going back to school, finding out your psychiatric diagnosis and what your GP REALLY thinks. In the main discussion, aside from the movies, we discuss: The zolly shot and its origins, whether or not it is  funny to portray a black character as just a combination of various cliches about black people? crushes on Elvis Presley, class warfare, using film to forward/address important issues, Jordan Peele's movies, women over 40 not getting work in Hollywood, plastic surgery fails, How Brian Cox is a national treasure (and by national, I mean not ours, but Scotland's), are older men more attractive? PTSD, getting attacked by a pitbull, dad humming.

THE VANISHING / SPOORLOOS (1988) & THE VANISHING (1993) Episode 38: The Original Was Un Oeuf30 Jul 202101:39:12

Send us a text

Hi, WoHos and TWoHos!!

This week we were totally on the same page with our thoughts on the original Dutch film SPOORLOOS and the American remake, THE VANISHING.

It boggles my mind how the same man directed both films.

Our PSA for this week: Please do not watch the remake. We consider it to be the worst one we have reviewed. Worse, even, than PULSE or MARTYRS and that is saying something.

But the original is so good. We recommend (PSA  #2) you watch it before listening, but hey, WoHos, it's your life. You have free will!!

To our French WoHos, obviously I apologize for my wretched pronunciation, per usual. Also, get in touch and let us know what the deal is with extramarital affairs in your culture.

We hope you'll listen and enjoy. Pretty sure this is the best show we have ever made.

Next week, for the Quinnisode, Quinn and I will be discussing "Double Life" movies. Quinn is threatening to do TWO Hitchcock films (can you guess which two?) and the original THE PARENT TRAP. I want to talk about THE BABYSITTER/BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN , THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT & US.

In two weeks, we are back discussing horror as we discuss JU-ON; THE GRUDGE, THE GRUDGE (2004) & THE GRUDGE (2020).

Get in touch over social media or email me: worldofhorror96@gmail.com. I'd love to hear from you.

Until then,
We love you and remember, sometimes it is better not to know.

THE KILLING (1956), THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE, AMERICAN ANIMALS, A SIMPLE PLAN Episode 37: The Perfect Crime21 Jul 202101:37:08

Send us a text

Hi, Q-heads,

That is what I am going to call you until I have a better name!

This week, we ramble A LOT about Perfect Crime Movies and Quinn's doggie Rosie shakes her thing on the mic. We also have a game which at least I found fun!

Movies discussed: AMERICAN ANIMALS, A SIMPLE PLAN, THE KILLING & THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE.

Content Note: Self care, going to a weed dispensary with Mom, C's love of Barry Keoghan and Ann Dowd, Q's love of Sterling Hayden, the status of Stanley Kubrick as an auteur, a mention of parental suicide (a fictional parent, but still), the shooting of a horse (a fictional horse...or was it?) We play "Pullman, Paxton, Portman, McDermott and Mortimer".

Would you like to guest on World of Horror, The Thrilling World of Horror or the Quinnisode? That would be cool! Please get in touch!

NOTE:
Dylan McDermott and Dermot Mulroney appeared together on the Fox sitcom "LA to Vegas"

The two South Korean "tunnel" movies I was thinking of were, of course, MEMORIES OF MURDER & MEMOIR OF A MURDERER.

The John Cusack movie is called MONEY FOR NOTHING (1993)

Send us a text

Well, WoHos and TwoHos!!

We had a real schism on this one! To date we have not disagreed so much on a film!

Content note: Our discussions in Mom and Mac chat and in the podcast proper  involve the following topics: getting thrown under the bus at work, putting together bedroom furniture alone, a skin rash, our favorite films from June, terrible French pronunciation, abusive partners, queer-baiting, conspiracy, the pre-cursor to Columbo, ghosts, overusing motifs and generally treating your audience like dunces and how very much the Queen Kathy Bates can save a disaster of a film.

Next week on the Quinnisode, Quinn and I will discuss a few of our favorite "Perfect Crime" flicks: A SIMPLE PLAN, AMERICAN ANIMALS, THE KILLING (1956) & THE TREASURE OF THE SIERRA MADRE.

Hi, WoHos!

To kick off our third season, Mac chose two of his favorite films. What do you know? They are both Korean masterpieces! Park Chan-wook's THE HANDMAIDEN  and Bong Joon-ho's MOTHER. In the Mom and Mac Chat, we also talk a bit about the recent American High School Exploding Seniors Movie, SPONTANEOUS.

Content note: Our discussions in Mom and Mac chat and in the podcast proper  involve the following topics: the weather, the pandemic, school shootings, the death of a friend, the male gaze, (apparent) suicide, child abuse, erotica v. pornography, emotional incest between a mother and son, murder, and BJh's problematic portrayal of a person with a disability. There is also mention of dancing "halmonis".  We hope you listen and enjoy. We also hope you don't go into the basement.

Next week a special episode with special guest host Devin!

CHICAGO, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, WRECK-IT, RALPH Episode 33: Whole Squad Pod™: Peanut Butter on a Lady: John C. Reilly23 Jun 202101:01:08

Send us a text

WoHos!

After thoroughly enjoying John C. Reilly's performance in DARK WATER, I thought it might be kind of fun to do a Quinnisode on our favorite performances by the man. Mac was so psyched, he jumped on this pod and we had a very nice chat.

Films discussed: WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, CHICAGO & WRECK-IT RALPH.

We hope you enjoy.

Next time we are covering Park Chan wook's THE HANDMAIDEN and Bong Joon ho's MOTHER.

DARK WATER (2002 & 2005) Episode 32: Dead in the Water18 Jun 202101:12:48

Send us a text

This week we reviewed the 2002 Japanese classic DARK WATER and the 2005 remake.

We also look back at the movies we watched this season and we have decided we want to add Thrillers to the mix for S3!!

We have some questions. Why is John C Reilly so good? Is it bad if your divorce lawyer is divorced? Are you in danger of dying if you work as a super? Why does Mom like SOMOS LO QUE HAY so much?

We hope you will listen and enjoy. In two weeks we are going to look at two of Mac's favorite movies: THE HANDMAIDEN (by Park Chan-wook)  and MOTHER (by Bong Joon-ho).

As a joke, I suggested doing performances we like from John C Reilly for the companion pod next week, but, WoHos! I think we are doing it. Mac might even guest.

I want a new name for the companion pod since the eps are getting longer than the main ones. It seems well, simply incorrect to call them minisodes. The floor is open for suggestions.

We hope you will listen and enjoy!
But, please,
Don't go into the basement!

CITIZEN KANE, THE APARTMENT, THE SHINING, MAGNOLIA, LOST IN TRANSLATION & SHAME Episode 31: Lonely Hearts Club Pod: Three Apiece 08 Jun 202101:25:23

Send us a text

WoHos!!

This week was nearly derailed by travel, but we decided at the last minute to discuss a few films we like that relate to loneliness. You're welcome!

Films discussed: CITIZEN KANE, THE APARTMENT, THE SHINING, MAGNOLIA, LOST IN TRANSLATION and SHAME.

We run the gamut from become a double auntie to sex addiction, attempted murder and dying fathers. We never get a satisfactory answer to the question why Christina is drawn to movies where someone attempts suicide, though.

For season three we will have to come up for another name for these eps. "Mini" they are not.

But, as always, we appreaciate your listenership and support.

Oh, and please listen to the end!
We have a new signoff!

WoHos!!

This week we looked at the Kiyoshi Kurasawa classic tech Jhorror, PULSE/KAIRO from 2001 and probably didn't understand most of it. That didn't stop us from talking about it, though, and we go OFF on the remake. Why? Just...why?

We also talk Norwegian TV, if relationships are possible on the Internet, horror anime and whether Ian Somerhalder is an actual human or some kind of supernatural entity.

We hope you listen and enjoy.

Watchalonger WoHos, Join us in two weeks when we wrap up Season 2 with Hideo Nakata's DARK WATER from 2002 and the 2005 American remake.

THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS: Bonus Episode 137 with Quinn McLaughlin01 Jun 202401:17:47

Send us a text

WoHos! Q-Balls!

Ms. Q is back to talk with me about how her Introduction to Film students reacted to this film. It was nice to revisit this classic and we had a nice ramble about their perceptive insights.

We also are such fans of Brooke Smith and Ted Levine as well as Jonathan Demme's direction and Tak Fujimoto's cinematography.

We also talk about the minor car accident Quinn was in (she's fine), the difference between Quinn's and my brain, the TV show my dead mom would have loved, Mac's amazing, prescient pattern recognition, "kids today", escape rooms, and what a good teacher Quinn is. Plus what the end credits of PEARL have in common with this film.

This is being released on Quinn's actual birthday, so go ahead and wish her a Happy Birthday. You can find her at instagram.com/quinnmcl03!

Next up on the main show Mac and I will be looking at squishy body horror with SOCIETY and eXistenZ. Next up on the Quinnisode, Quinn and I will be spotlighting Jesse Plemons.

Remember, Q-Balls and WoHos, we love you, don't go into the basement, and more dicks!

Send us a text

Hi, WoHos!

This week Mac and I looked at the 1976 and 2006 versions of THE OMEN and got real apocalyptic with it.

What did Mom think of the casting of Mia Farrow in the remake? Why didn't Liev and Julia have any chemistry? Which Damien was scarier? Is there any way to make a PB&J ominously?

Join us next week on the Minisode/Quinnisode, when Quinn and I dive into ROSEMARY'S BABY (It was only a matter of time) and THE INVITATION.

THE WICKER MAN (1973 & 2006) Episode 26: Impregnated by a Ghost07 May 202101:33:25

Send us a text

Hi, WoHos!

This week we got a little pagan with it and reviewed the 1973 UK version of THE WICKER MAN and the 2006 American remake.

We also looked at Mac and Mom's top five views from April and we learn why Mac did not go to grad school and why Mom really did (the answer may surprise you, but if you know Mom, actually, it may not).

Mac finds Nic Cage's choices fascinating and has seen quite a few movies about cults.
Mom is trying to find a way to fit the original into the God and Religion section of her Fall class.

Join us next week when Quinn and I look at movies and mini documeries about cults and focusing on MIDSOMMAR and MARTHA MARCY MAY MARLENE!

Hey there, WoHos!

This week Mac and I did a deep dive on Korean director Kim Jee Woon. Mom looked at THE QUIET FAMILY and I SAW THE DEVIL and Mac looked at two of Director Kim's short films, MEMORIES and THE HEAVENLY CREATURE. We hope you listen and enjoy!

Did you know we did a separate episode on "A Tale of Two Sisters" and "The Invited"? Heck, Yeah, we did and you can listen to that episiode here:

Next week on the mini C and Q will do a deep dive on Greta Gerwig. Why? Because she is a legend!

Hi, WoHo's!

Last week (S2: Episode 4: Meat is Murder), Mac and I looked at two cannibal families and so I thought it would be fun for Quinn and me to look at dysfunctional and functional families this week.

Quinn looked at 1962's "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" and I looked at the Paddington movies from 2014 and 2017.

Which depictions of dysfunction and functional families are YOUR favorites?

Next time it's a two-parter as Mac and I discuss "A Tale of Two Sisters" from 2003 and "The Uninvited" from 2009. We will also do a deep dive on Kim Jee Woon. Stay tuned on social media to see which films we pick.

WoHo's!! This week Mac and I looked at the 2010 cannibal horror movie from Mexico, "Somos lo que Hay" and the American 2013 remake.

For once we have two different movies, but we still have the same amount of shovel deaths.

What scene belongs in the MoMa? Who returns from "Cronos" and "Here Comes the Devil"? How many Cannibal films has Mac seen?

Next week for the minisode/Quinnisode, Quinn will be discussing dysfuctional families and I will be discussing functional ones.

In two weeks for our fifth episode this season, Mac and I are going to take a "Deep Dive for Five" when we look at superstar director Kim Jee Woon and discuss "A Tale of Two Sisters" and "The Uninvited"

We're Back with Season 2! This week we watched Michael Haneke's 1997 Austrian and 2007 American film, Funny Games. Mac liked Tim Roth, but Mom far preferred Ulrich Muhe (RIP).

Who is this movie for, exactly? What is the point? Why are there two versions?...You tell us because we were really not sure.

We are moving to a twice/month format with minisodes on the off weeks. Quinn and I will look at older home invasion movies next week and the week after Mac and I will look at the 2008 Swedish movie "Let the Right One In" and the 2010 American version "Let Me In".

It's Quinntage #1: A segment where Quinn comes by and classes up the joint and lends her experience with older/vintage horror films to the films Mac and I yammer on about in the main episodes. I hope you enjoy and if you have some thoughts, please get in touch on Instagram, Twitter or email (worldofhorror96@gmail.com)

Next week Mac and I are back with Episode 1 of Season 2. We'll be talking about the two versions of Funny Games. Can't wait to see you then!!

A few notes:

Naomi Watts was photographed as Marnie for a 2013 Vanity Fair spread on Hitchcock Films.

Omphalophobia is the fear of belly buttons.

Hitchcock's The Bomb Under the Table Analogy talks about the difference between surprise and suspense:
“Four people are sitting around a table, talking about baseball or whatever you’d like. Five minutes of it. Very dull. Suddenly a bomb goes off. Blows the people to smithereens. What does the audience have? Ten seconds of shock. Now, take the same scene and tell the audience there is a bomb under that table and [it] will go off in five minutes. Well, the whole emotion of the audience is totally different, because you’ve given them that information.”

Love you, mean it. Don't go into the basement!

TAXIDERMIA & TUMBBAD Episode 11: Austria & India22 Jan 202101:22:47

Send us a text

WoHos! It's the end...of Season One. Mac watched "Taxidermia" and Mom watched "Tumbbad". Mac doesn't think Mom should watch his watch Mom things EVERYONE should watch HER watch.

We looked back at the movies we reviewed in Season 1. What was the scariest? Most grotesque? Dreadingest? We never got around to Best Villian, so you'll have to come back and find out who that was? Mick Taylor? Mademoiselle? Certainly not the crocodile in "Black Water"!!

Join us next week for a minisode and in two weeks for Funny Games (1997) and Funny Games (2007). I haven't seen either, but I am already wondering if they influenced a tuly great (despite Nicole Kidman being in it) film, The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Your thoughts?

We love you. Don't go into the basement.

THE DEVIL'S BACKBONE, CRONOS & CULTURE SHOCK Episode 10: Mexico15 Jan 202101:58:05

Send us a text

This week we watched movies from Mexico and got real del Toro with it. Our all-watch was "The Devil's Backbone". Mom watched "Cronos", but gives a special shout out to "Here Comes the Devil" and Mac watched "Culture Shock". We also had a lovely chat with Devin, who has some actual credentials!

Next week we are closing out Season 1 with one pick each. Mom is reviewing a movie from India and Mac has chosen a movie from Austria.

We had some Zoom issues because of course we did. Mom's sighing is an unintentional homage to "The One Who Sighs". Sorry about the clicking as I was trying frantically to get back to Mac.

LAST ONES OUT, THE SOUL COLLECTOR & HOUSE ON WILLOW STREET Episode 9: Africa07 Jan 202101:32:11

This week our all-watch was the disappointing "28 Days Later" ripoff, "The Last Ones Out". Mom watched "The Soul Collector" and Mac watched "The House on Willow Street". We also had a round of "Completely Worthless WoH Trivia" since we have watched 20 films so far and Mom read our very first listener mail!! If you would like to get in touch with us, we wish you would. We are on Instagram and Twitter and our email is worldofhorror96@gmail.com. You can also leave us a voice message.

THE RING (1998 & 2002) Episode 8: All's Well That Ends's Well31 Dec 202001:58:49

Send us a text

WoHo's This week we watched "Ringu" from Japan and "The Ring" from the US.

We had a little technical difficulty just at the end of the discussion between Mom and Mac. For the record, Mom is permanently scarred by the horse scene in "The Ring" and we both gave the remake 3 video tapes and the orig 4 video tapes although we thought there were definite problems with both movies (and that both were pretty great, too).

We hope you enjoyed our special guests Aaron and Andy. Thanks, guys!

Look for your favorite International Horror Podcast in the new year and stay tuned for a big announcment regarding Season 2 coming up next week!

If you want to watch along with us for next week, we are watching "The Last Ones Out", "The House on Willow Street" and "The Soul Collector" from South Africa.

Look for us on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Tweet at Mac (TheGayJimmyBuffett) to get our YouTube channel going!!
