| #121 Navigating Menopause With Therapeutic Essential Oils | 10 Apr 2024 | 00:29:08 | |
Dr Bo Hendgen DO ND is the founder and CEO of Absolute Essential, a New Zealand-based company. Absolute Essential designs 100% organic, premium quality essential plant oil products of the highest therapeutic value. Born in Germany, Dr Bo grew up in France and studied aromatic medicine there. If you’ve never heard of it before this type of healing looks at the science of therapeutic essential oils. Additionally, Dr Bo is a naturopathic doctor, a doctor of osteopathy and holds a PhD in paediatrics. She says the first thing to remember when using therapeutic essential oils is they’re powerful. As such, these aromatics – ‘concentrated substances extracted from the flowers, stems, roots, bark, leaves or seeds of a plant’ – have been used for centuries. “When oils are extracted with care, their life force is maintained and can be recognised by human biology,” says Dr Bo. “Breathing in the scent of an essential oil takes it to the bloodstream via the lungs and the brain via the olfactory system. In addition, the skin (epidermis) can absorb these therapeutic oils, and they travel to your blood from there.” For this reason, essential oils should be treated as the potent forces of nature that they are. Listen as Dr Bo explains the best essential oils to use during every stage of menopause. In this episode, we talk about:

| #133 Sleep Better In 4 Weeks - Dr Michael Mosley's Top Tips | 25 Sep 2024 | 00:27:05 | |
Did you know that 60% of Australian adults (and let’s be real, probably most of the rest of the world too) suffer from sleep disorders? If you’re tuning in to Women on Fire®, chances are you know sleep problems well - especially if you’re navigating the choppy waters of peri or post-menopause. Sleep deprivation links to all kinds of pesky things: memory lapses, mood swings, stress, weight gain. And for us women in the throes of hormonal chaos, it’s like nature’s treacherous double-whammy! Not getting enough quality sleep messes with your body, brain, and gut, upping obesity, diabetes, and dementia risk. Yikes! In this Mini Pause®, I’m unpacking some gems from Dr Michael Mosley's 4 Weeks To Better Sleep co-created with Australia’s Flinders University Sleep Institute, alongside the SBS series Australia’s Sleep Revolution. Dr Mosley reminds us that severe sleep issues should get expert support but he was confident the advice in his book could make a difference for most. We planned to invite Dr Mosley onto the show just before his untimely passing during a holiday in Greece with his wife, Claire. His loss is felt by millions of fans who followed his findings.
