125. Sick and Tired? Simple Hacks to Enhance Sleep and Boost Energy.10 Jul 202501:00:29
I prefer Simplicity. However, when I come across a recipe or hear about a health tip that seems straightforward, I often wonder if it will actually work. That's why today's podcast impacted me. Dr. Stephen Hussey, author of Understanding the Heart, focuses on providing simple tips to improve health. He had a heart attack at the age of 34 while he was writing his book about heart health. As you can imagine, that certainly got his attention! We talked about the ways he's changed his life today after that heart attack. What did we discuss? One is the impact of unnatural lighting on our health. Staying indoors, under fluorescent lights, with limited activity, and consuming processed foods all significantly contribute to poor health. We also had a great discussion about the circadian rhythm. When you're sleeping, your body conducts surveillance and eliminates and cleans up all the damaged cells. If you're not sleeping well, it's almost impossible to be well. ______ Parafy worm kit You're not alone if you've ever wondered what’s lurking in your body! Kim Rogers struggled with parasites and worms for years, and now she’s created the Parafy Kit—a powerful cleanse designed to help you take control of your health. 124. Top Tips I Loved from June!03 Jul 202500:21:02
I had some HUGE takeaways in June. The good news? Both of these tips are easy to implement. The two areas where I gained the most insights were: Supporting someone going through a tough time. The peace that I feel when I continue to walk in forgiveness. How do you support someone who is going through a difficult time? Ask two simple questions: How are you doing right now? How are you doing with that news you heard today? Try to keep it simple and let them know that you can do specific things for them. So instead of saying, "Call me if you need me," say instead, "Can I drive you to your appointment on Thursday?" Walking in forgiveness. Doesn't it seem like almost every day, you can get offended and angry? One of my podcast guests told me how she moved through forgiveness after her daughter was diagnosed with an illness. She told me she'd go outside to the woods and scream. I thought that seemed like a good idea, but going out to the woods and screaming didn't resonate with me. What resonated with me was going to an exercise class and lifting weights. The loud environment allowed me to forgive someone who hurt me without worrying about being heard. I would say, "I forgive [name] and release you to the Holy Spirit." I realized that making my forgiveness more physical didn't mean I went after someone and smacked them upside the head (as fun as that sounds! ). Instead, the movement helped release stress from my body. By the end of one of my "forgiveness" workouts, I felt lighter and calmer. ______ Body Deli Why I love the Phoenix Lift Oil from Body Deli: Botanical Powerhouses for Deep Nourishment In addition to its scientifically advanced components, Phoenix Lift Face & Neck Oil features a curated blend of nutrient-dense, natural oils: Sea Buckthorn Oil: Rich in omega fatty acids and antioxidants, it promotes skin regeneration and combats free radical damage. I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Every time I change the filter and see all the gunk it collects, I smile, knowing it's doing a great job keeping my air clean! 115. Does Glyphosate Contribute to Cancer (Re-Release)01 May 202500:49:19
Make America Healthy Again? Have we ever been healthy? I've been in the health field for thirty-five years. In all that time, I had never heard a news media report on red dyes in food. For the first time, I'm encouraged by the future of our American food system! For me, this is not a political issue. I truly want to give people the same opportunities that I have. I know how to read labels and avoid cancer-causing ingredients in my food. Most people don't. Americans are starting to question our food manufacturers. That's a big first step in eliminating harmful ingredients from food (many of which have been banned in Europe for decades). Today's podcast, with MAHA advocate and activist Kelly Ryerson, made me sad and mad. Kelly (Glyphosate Girl) discussed the damage glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) does to our environment and bodies. Kelly has spent years in the trenches explaining why this chemical is so dangerous to anyone who would listen. It's such an easy default to use a heavy chemical load to kill weeks. Did you know there are simple alternatives to using such a large amount of chemicals in farming? Kelly also explained that while this product is sold in Europe, the company that makes Roundup has created a less toxic alternative for sale in Europe. This, to me, is mind-blowing! If they can make a less harmful version that still works for Europe, can't one be made for the US as well? ____ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. I avoided trying it because it sounded like I'd be putting grease on my face. Enough people asked me about it, so I started reading more information and trying out various tallows. There was one company that stood out to me. I feel like I hit a home run with the brand Toups and Co. I first heard of this brand on a friend's podcast (Holistic Hilda with the Weston A Price Foundation). She interviewed the founder, Emily Toups. She was a mom looking for a solution to her child's skin issues. She was frustrated with the lack of progress with drugstore and prescription meds, so she reached out to a local farmer for tallow. The rest, as they say, is history. Her daughter is healed, and my skin looks great, haha! Thank you, Toups Family, for making such excellent products and offering my community a 15% discount. I'm currently using: Frankincense Skim Balm Blue Tansy Body Oil The Nourishing Skin Care Set (this includes skin balm, body oil, tinted lip chap, and a tallow bar—and it's on sale!). Deodorant - it really works! 39: Putting ‘Junk’ in Your Heart Will Make You Sick09 Mar 202300:39:06
39: Putting ‘Junk’ in Your Heart Will Make You Sick A candid conversation with Dr. Henry Cloud   Being vulnerable makes me uncomfortable, especially considering how I "used to be" before cancer. Before cancer, it was crucial to me to be liked. So, "to make" people like me, I didn't always share my opinions or let people get to know the "real me." When I received the cancer diagnosis, everything changed. Suddenly, I had to save my energy for healing, and I stopped caring if people liked me. I then started to look at some of my relationships. Some of my friendships needed better boundaries, and I needed to manage my expectations about the friendship. All of a sudden, I FELT FREE. I felt lighter and truly began to enjoy the people in my life. I first heard Dr. Cloud, author of Boundaries, on the radio twenty-five years ago. So, you can imagine how delighted I was when Dr. Cloud agreed to come on my podcast to discuss how our relationships can impact our health. My specific question to him was this, "can a lack of boundaries or being co-dependent contribute to cancer risk?" You've got to hear his surprising answer!   Dr. Henry Cloud is an acclaimed leadership expert, clinical psychologist, and New York Times bestselling author. His 45 books, including the iconic Boundaries, have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide. In addition, he has an extensive executive coaching background and experience as a leadership consultant, devoting most of his time to working with CEOs, leadership teams, and executives to improve performance, leadership skills, and culture.   Boundaries.Me is your best option for mental health coaching by providing you with videos and thinking tools created by New York Times best-selling author and clinical psychologist Dr. Henry Cloud. 38: Can a Lack of Boundaries Contribute to Cancer Risk?23 Feb 202300:42:44
38: Can a Lack of Boundaries Contribute to Cancer Risk? A candid conversation with Boundaries author, Dr. Henry Cloud.   I was 33, single, and struggling with boundaries. I always picked the wrong guy, and then the relationship would blow up, and I'd be crushed and have a crisis of confidence.   One day I was driving to a work appointment and switched on my radio and discovered Dr. Cloud on my local radio station. He spoke to my brokenness about my relationships. He taught me about boundaries in such a simple way! He stated that boundaries are like the locked door on a house; you unlock the door to let in the right people and keep it shut to keep the wrong people out!    You can imagine what a thrill it was for me to host Dr. Henry Cloud on my podcast! I was geeking out :) He's been my mentor and life coach for twenty-five years, and I've never even talked to him.   My focus of this interview was, can a lack of boundaries or being co-dependent contribute to cancer risk. Of course, I've been wondering if I've contributed to my cancer through the drama I've had in my personal life.   I found his answer surprising, so make sure you listen to part one of my interview with Dr. Cloud.   Dr. Henry Cloud is an acclaimed leadership expert, clinical psychologist, and New York Times bestselling author. 37: Daily Habits to Prevent and Fight Cancer!09 Feb 202300:43:21
37: Daily Habits to Prevent and Fight Cancer!   Today's podcast episode with Keith Bishop is a simple reminder that we can fight cancer or lower cancer risk through our daily habits. My takeaway today was that let's not make cancer prevention too complicated; there are simple habits we can incorporate daily that can knock down our risk. Move a bit more each day. Cut back on sugar and alcohol. Don't drink super-hot beverages (darn it! I love my piping hot tea 😊) Keith also told me that while colon cancer risk seems to be going down for older folks, colon cancer in younger people is on the rise. Why? Keith believes a sedentary lifestyle is a significant contributor.  What that means to me is Get Up and Move, even if you add only a few sets of stairs or a quick walk after dinner. My biggest takeaway from this conversation with Keith is that small changes can make a HUGE health impact! 36: Can Positive Emotions Kill Cancer Cells?26 Jan 202300:39:09
36: Can Positive Emotions Kill Cancer Cells?   Join me for part two of my interview with the New York Times best-selling author of Radical Remission and Radical Hope, Dr. Kelly Turner. Did you know that positive emotions can impact your pituitary and pineal glands and flood your bloodstream with oxytocin, relaxin, serotonin, and endorphins? Translation: These hormones have been shown in studies to reduce the spread of and the growth speed of cancer cells. Dr. Turner also shared that researchers dripped oxytocin into Petri dishes holding breast cancer cells; the oxytocin diminished the breast cancer cells. Listen to today's podcast episode to discover the ten healing factors all her study subjects had in common. These ten key healing factors for Radical Remission are, in no particular order: Radically changing your diet Taking control of your health Following your intuition Using herbs and supplements Releasing suppressed emotions Increasing positive emotions Embracing social support Deepening your spiritual connection Having strong reasons for living Exercise In Radical Remission, Dr. Turner states that these factors are in no particular ranking order — in her research, there was no “clear winner” among the factors. While some people focused more on one factor than others, the majority of the survivors she interviewed did practice all nine of these key factors. These key factors are now considered “hypotheses” — that is, more research is needed to “prove” that these factors improve the chances of healing from cancer or other conditions. Dr. Turner points out: “I don’t give medical advice nor do I even give advice. I’m just here to report on my research, and I can certainly say what radical remission survivors would do from a research standpoint.” Dr. Turner shows how survivors overcame dire circumstances and diagnoses using modalities beyond the conventional treatments of surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and other “standard” cancer treatments. Interestingly, seven of these ten key factors that Radical Remission survivors reported using are psychosocial (mental/emotional) factors, while the other three are nutritionally and movement-related. While getting her Ph.D. at the University of California, Berkley, Dr. Turner, a researcher, lecturer, and counselor in integrative oncology, was shocked to discover that no one was studying episodes of radical (or unexpected) remission—when people recover against all odds without the help of conventional medicine, or after conventional medicine has failed. She was so fascinated by this kind of remission that she embarked on a ten-month trip around the world, traveling to ten different countries to interview fifty holistic healers and twenty radical remission cancer survivors about their healing practices and techniques. Her research continued by interviewing over 100 Radical Remission survivors and studying over 1000 of these cases. Her evidence presents nine common themes that she believes may help even terminal patients turn their lives around. 35: Can Listening to Your Intuition Cause a Radical Remission?12 Jan 202300:34:26
35: Can Listening to Your Intuition Cause a Radical Remission?   A candid conversation with Dr. Kelly Turner, author of "Radical Remission and Radical Hope."   Today I welcome Kelly A Turner, Ph.D. and New York Times best-selling author of Radical Remission and Radical Hope. Kelly and I talk about the difference between radical remission and spontaneous healing and the ten key healing factors that cancer survivors have in common. Sure, we can assume that changing diet and lowering stress levels can impact healing but what about factors such as listening to your intuition? For Dr. Turner, intuition was the hardest healing factor for her to understand so she dove into research to see if this could be a legitimate healing factor, spoiler alert, she found numerous studies citing intuition as a healing factor. According to Dr. Turner, almost all the Radical Remission survivors that she interviewed mentioned doing these same ten things to heal their cancer. 33. MOLD: Can That Musty Smell Make You Sick?17 Nov 202200:40:38
33. MOLD: Can That Musty Smell Make You Sick?   I learned much from today's podcast with mold expert Bridgit Danner. I've never given much thought about mold and the impact it could have on chronic disease or even cancer! When Bridgit explained that chemical warfare is often made from a mold, she got my attention! If mold is strong enough to be used in a bomb, what kind of havoc can it create in my body? Listen to today's episode to learn more about this fascinating topic.   Information About Today’s Guest, Bridgit Danner: www.BridgitDanner.com Links to Bridgit's Books: The Ultimate Guide to Toxic Mold Recovery: Take Back Your Home, Health & Life Your Complete Guide to Health Recovery from Toxic Mold According to Dr. Isaac Eliaz: "You may not be aware of it, but mold is probably affecting your health. So even if it’s not on your mind, “how to detox your body from mold” should be something we all need to be asking. Even if mold is making you sick, you might not know it’s the source of your symptoms. That’s because mold toxicity can act like many other conditions, so it often goes misdiagnosed and untreated. Exposure can cause many different symptoms, including: Fatigue Cough Shortness of breath Fever Headache Joint pain Memory problems Dizziness Sinus infections Wheezing Trouble concentrating Sensitivity to light Skin rash Digestive problems One of the main reasons mold toxins can cause so many different symptoms is this: These toxins can suppress or damage your immune system. Not only can they bring on symptoms themselves, they can make you more vulnerable to other illnesses. Surrounded by Mold Mold exposure is shockingly common. It’s found in the air, damp or water-damaged buildings, even the food you’re eating. Foods that commonly contain mold include cereal grains, nuts, spices, coffee, bulk foods (like the kind you buy from bins to save money) and dairy products. You come across mold inside and outside, and it can travel around with you. Mold spores can attach to things like: Clothing Shoes Pets Reusable grocery bags That means it can come home with you from just about anywhere. And if it ends up somewhere even slightly damp, it will grow and multiply. In nature, mold speeds up the break down (decomposition) of things like dead trees and fallen leaves. Some molds are used to make cheese or create antibiotics. But many types of mold can be hazardous to your health. These molds produce mycotoxins, poisons that can cause severe health problems and a wide variety of symptoms. The two most common harmful mycotoxins are aflatoxin and ochratoxin, and exposure to either (or both) of these can trigger substantial health issues — from chronic allergies to cancer. What’s more, if your body can’t remove these toxins on its own, they can slip into long-term storage to cause lasting or recurring damage. Mycotoxins Damage Your Health Mycotoxins are sneaky. While mold itself can’t enter your bloodstream — though it can hang around and colonize in spots like your nostrils and lungs — mycotoxins can get into your bloodstream and circulate throughout your body. These opportunistic toxins can hijack your immune system, making you more vulnerable to infections. If your immune system is already compromised (such as people with autoimmune conditions or undergoing cancer treatment), mycotoxins take advantage. If you’re healthy, they can make you very sick. Studies show that mycotoxins can: Cause lung inflammation that can make it harder to breathe Disrupt your gut health by reducing beneficial bacteria and encouraging pathogens Trigger chronic fatigue syndrome Affect brain function and cognition Cause liver damage, including cancer Worsen allergy and asthma symptoms Unfortunately, mold toxicity is frequently misdiagnosed. Because of its wide-ranging effects, it’s typically mistaken for other conditions including depression, multiple sclerosis, or autoimmune conditions. Plus, because mycotoxins are opportunistic, they’re often connected with debilitating diseases such as Lyme disease, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and fibromyalgia." 30. Can Estrogen Cause Breast Cancer?06 Oct 202200:49:49
30. Can Estrogen Cause Breast Cancer?    I loved this interview with my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James. She is a wealth of information and was a great support to me during my breast cancer battle.   We discussed estrogen's role in breast cancer and how too much can be problematic. According to Dr. James, excess estrogen (we pick up a lot of additional estrogen from using plastic and cosmetics) may encourage cancer growth. However, she states that the "jury is still out" on whether estrogen causes cancer.   We also talk about consuming soy products (spoiler alert, I eat soy!) and if some soy products are better than others.   We also discussed a few products I use and that Dr. James recommends for those gosh-darn hot flashes!     Her website is a powerful resource for anyone fighting breast cancer or trying to avoid it! 29. Year in Review (Part 2)22 Sep 202200:16:22
29. Year in Review (Part 2)   August Brice Founder of Tech Wellness. Being around Wi-Fi can disrupt melatonin production, which can impact your sleep. Studies also show that women who have disrupted sleep (often due to low melatonin levels) have a higher risk of breast cancer. Distance is your friend when it comes to EMF exposure so try to stay away from Wi-Fi routers and cell towers and never put your phone against your body (skin or head!). She also told us about the MRI cell phone study with Dr. Lisa Bailey. She studied women who carried their cells phone in their sports bras. On breast MRI imaging, the women who ended up with breast cancer had tumors that mimicked the pattern of their phones. August suggests we download books and movies and then watch in airplane mode to reduce exposure. techwellness.com   Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy Dr. Connealy is leading a cancer prevention revolution that focuses on treating the patient with the disease and not the disease of the patient while determining the origin of the illness. She is the author of The Cancer Revolution, which has revolutionized the cancer treatment landscape. We had a riveting discussion about the fact that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed in the last 50 years.  I find that statement shocking. Millions of dollars are invested yearly in cancer research; how could it be possible that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed? In her book, Dr. C. cites a Japanese study that found that we have more than 75 million cancer cells in our body at any given time, and usually, our immune system keeps these cells in check. But when the immune system becomes compromised over a long period, these cells can begin to multiply. Dr. C. also shared that there are over 10 RX written for every man, woman, and child in the US. 28. Year in Review (Part 1)15 Sep 202200:18:30
28. Year in Review (Part 1) Jamie Winship Author of one of my favorite books, Living Fearless. I wish I'd met Jamie and his wife Donna thirty years ago! I would have learned so much from them about fear, managing fear, and not making decisions based on FEAR! But, sure grateful to know both of them now. I've learned how to manage my fear, but it has taken a bit of practice. Jamie says that we can ALL manage our fear, and it might be as easy as taking a few deep breaths and pushing the pause button when we get triggered. One of the techniques I've learned from Jamie is that when life starts to go sideways, I ask myself, Is God for me, against me, or indifferent? Well, I know God is for me, and asking myself that question in the middle of a fearful moment always seems to calm me down and allow me to get a handle on my thoughts. Identityexchange.com   Johnny Imerman Johnny shows people how they can get across the finish line. He was diagnosed with cancer at a young age, and he realized how important it was to show people (by connecting them with people who had already been through cancer) that they could come out on the other side of cancer. One of my favorite bible scriptures is proverbs 29, without a vision, a man perishes. Johnny shows people a vision so they can thrive. imermanangels.org   Ben Salem Founder of WaveBlock Ben has been in the real estate world his entire career, and it was out of necessity that he created his product. He told me he bought an EMF mentor to check his baby's room for radiation. He was shocked when he discovered how much radiation was around the crib. So, he researched and learned how to create a baby blanket that would deflect the waves. He then used that tech to create his product, Wave Block. Necessity is indeed the mother of invention! Kids' skulls absorb 10x the radiation when compared to an adult skull. In Europe, many countries have banned Wi-Fi in nurseries and elementary schools. Jodi said that when we experience anxiety or panic, it's often a right frontal lobe issue. So, here's her simple hack, stimulate the left side of your frontal lobe to help balance your system and lower your stress and anxiety. Plug the right side of your nostril and inhale out of your left nostril. The key point, smell something in the left nostril. She suggested smelling an orange or a flower. 27. Cancer Made Us Better: A Chat with My Husband01 Sep 202200:29:51
27. Cancer Made Us Better: A Chat with My Husband   I sure wish I had known that there were resources for caregivers during my cancer journey. Steve and I didn't even think that maybe he would need to be supported or at least have someone to talk to about what he was going through. I was a mess for a few weeks, and he was my rock. But who was his rock? Yes, he is a man of great faith, and we both relied on God to get us through this season. But day to day, we each needed someone to talk to, to vent to, and for someone to say, "I'm here for you even if you don't think you need me." I had an incredible group of girlfriends (including my precious mom and two daughters) that came alongside me. Kathy (who was two years ahead of me on her breast cancer journey), along with Kim and Patty, dropped everything on my diagnosis day (Sept 1st) to rush over to my house with pink bracelets that we would all wear and Rombauer Chardonnay that we would all drink, haha. Kim left me daily phone messages in an attempt to make me laugh. The best one was when she accidentally flushed her Tiffany sunglasses down the toilet at Nordstrom-I laughed until I cried on that one :) The most challenging time for me was telling my mom and the kids. So hard, I had to have Steve tell my mom. She had to put the phone down she was crying so hard. My church family supported me, my book club, family and friends, and my C3 group (Christian business group of sisters in Christ), and I was given a breast cancer mentor, Liza, through Imerman Angels. Steve had some friends he shared with (he's also in a C3 group) and a few other guys, but he needed more support. I'm hopeful that you can discover better ways to support caregivers through our mistakes. Looking back, we would have set up an appointment with a family counselor to discuss the different aspects of cancer support. We also would have reached out to Imerman Angels to get Steve a mentor- this is an incredible service they offer, mentor support for caregivers - all for free!     This episode is sponsored by Wave Block. 26. Hollywood, Health, Hope: A Conversation with Samantha Harris18 Aug 202200:38:33
26. Hollywood, Health, Hope: A Conversation with Samantha Harris   I thought I was an energizer bunny, but this gal ran circles around me, haha. I had so much fun chatting with Samantha, and we realized we both had so much in common (minus the four Emmy® nominations and hanging out with the Kardashians). When I got my diagnosis, people said, “how could you possibly get cancer? You’re the healthiest person I know.” Her friends asked Samantha the same questions. Samantha has always been the “healthy one” throughout her life. You know, that person that orders the salad while everyone else is munching on the bacon cheeseburger. Samantha’s cancer diagnosis started her on a mission to rethink what her healthy looked like; was she truly living her healthiest life? When she was on camera wearing skin-tight clothing, there was no space for sweating, so she would pull out the big guns and spray on antiperspirant. One of the ways your body gets rid of toxins is through sweating. After her cancer diagnosis, she began to wonder if all the steps she had to take to be successful in her career might have contributed to her breast cancer diagnosis. Samantha went on a journey to find “her healthiest healthy,” and the results of that quest became the best-selling book, Your Healthiest Healthy.     Enjoy 10% off from one of my favorite supplement companies, Seeking Health. 25. Get Outside and Play! Can That Reduce Cancer Risk?21 Jul 202200:24:38
25. Get Outside and Play! Can That Reduce Cancer Risk?   Sleep can reset your system and allow your body to do what it does best-repair cells that have been damaged!   Are you a good sleeper? Do you fall asleep quickly, or do you get a second wind in the evening? Did you know that spending time on your laptop at night can send a message to your brain that makes it think that it's mid-day and not midnight?   Today's episode with Hilda explores simple ancestral hacks (going outside to get the morning sun) that can help your body reset your circadian rhythm so you can fall asleep faster and stay asleep. And, as long as you're outside, why not take your shoes off and play?   We also discussed how our ancestors spent three-quarters of their time outside, and today, we spend three-quarters of our time inside; the switch isn't doing our bodies any favors.   Hilda teaches us to "stack our hacks" to maximize our health benefits.   Hilda mentions the two experts below during our conversation.   Bruce H. 24. Can Stress Cause Cancer?   My big takeaways from today's podcast:      1: The importance of managing stress      2: Ancestral hacks such as going outside first thing in the morning to help reset your circadian rhythm      3: Turning off the news! We also discussed the role each of us plays in our health and disease prevention. What if you get cancer surgery but then return to your same environment? Disease isn't always about diet! What kind of thoughts do you think? Are your thoughts positive or negative? Do you surround yourself with encouraging people or discouraging people? 23. Simple Detox Hacks - A Conversation With Dr. Tom O’Bryan16 Jun 202200:52:24
23. Simple Detox Hacks - A Conversation With Dr. Tom O'Bryan   I met Dr. O’Bryan at my national nutrition conference in April. While he certainly is one of the world’s leading experts in gluten, he also proved to be an expert on the toxins in our environment. For example, he got my attention when he mentioned that the chemicals in nail polish hit our bloodstream within four minutes. According to research, 50% of men and 41% of women will develop cancer in their lifetime. What is causing this epidemic of cancer in our world? I know that there’s no easy answer, but I think we’d be foolish not to take a look at the toxins that surround us as possible contributors to this disease. 22. What You Smell Impacts Your Health - Essential Oils & Health!   According to Dr. Josh Axe: Essential oils have been used for thousands of years in various cultures for medicinal and health purposes. Because of their antidepressant, stimulating, detoxifying, antibacterial, antiviral and calming properties, they continue to gain popularity as natural, safe and cost-effective therapy for a number of health concerns. There’s no wonder why considering the high cost of health care bills and the side effects of conventional medications. Adding such oils to your personal medicine cabinet and lifestyle can make a world of difference.   I’m so excited for you to listen to today’s podcast with Jodi Cohen, founder of the essential oils company, Vibrant Blue Oils. Please join us for today’s podcast repeat so you can truly understand that good health can be a simple eating, moving and well, pooping 😉 I started using essential oils thirty years ago on my clients. 21. Clean Beauty – A Conversation with Gabriel of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc.19 May 202200:39:55
21. Clean Beauty – A Conversation with Gabriel of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc.   I was shocked when Gabriel told me that we each have 5-7 pounds of skin and that our skin is our biggest organ. The skin works as a filter, so what goes on our skin goes into our bodies. Yikes! It made me think about what types of products I use on my skin, hair, and nails.   Ironically, I just returned from my annual National Association of Nutritional Professionals conference. One of the speakers mentioned that within 4 minutes of using nail polish, the chemicals from the polish hit our bloodstream.    When you hear two messages within days that sound the same, I know it's a sign!   One of my big takeaways from my conversation with Gabriel is how we can make our own or DIY natural products. For example, he likes to use Jojoba oil as a moisturizer, and he cooks with essential oils.    Listen to the podcast episode to learn more of his DIY secrets!   Gabriel is also offering a coupon to podcast listeners: Enos25 for 25% off!   Gabriel De Santino is the founder and CEO of Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc., a global natural beauty empire whose brands include Gabriel, Zuzu Luxe, and Clean Kids Naturally.   Born of Latin descent and raised off the coast of Mexico, Gabriel, at an early age, was naturally drawn to the coastal life and heavily influenced by his grandmother's holistic practices. At the age of 18, Gabriel moved to Seattle, Washington. He knew the Pacific Northwest had a rising fashion and beauty scene and joined the movement at a local beauty counter. It was there that Gabriel fell in love with makeup but was also inspired to look past the made-up face. He soon secured a position at a salon & spa to learn more about the industry and how he may change it. After attending aesthetician school, he quickly discovered he wanted to first correct the skin before covering it up, a mantra he still practices today. As an aesthetician, he struggled because women were using toxic products on their skin. But, given his background as a naturopath and familiarity with sea botanicals, his calling was loud and clear.   In 1992, he solicited his friends and family's moral and financial support. As a result, he started Gabriel Organics, a complete line of all-natural, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty-free skincare products made with seaweed as its hero ingredient.   Gabriel Cosmetic Inc.'s prestige and diverse brand portfolio were created out of one man's vision of clearly defining natural beauty and being able to provide affordable and accessible vegan beauty products to consumers worldwide.   Gabriel Cosmetics, Inc. is headquartered in its original area of Redmond, Washington, with over 25 employees and its fearless leader, Gabriel De Santino, leading the charge every step of the way.     This episode is sponsored by Wave Block. 20. Meditation is Medication - Part Two of My Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy05 May 202200:26:55
20. Meditation is Medication - Part Two of My Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy   My podcast guest this week is part two of my conversation with Dr. C, and she says that Meditation is the Medication.   We need to get a better handle on our stress. Stress is a normal part of our day. She is concerned about the long-term chronic stress that will raise our levels of inflammation. When inflammation is high for long periods, our body gets very challenged, and that's how diseases like cancer can occur.   She told me how years ago, she went to La Jolla to meditate with Deepak Chopra and walked away thinking, well, nobody will want to do that! Fast forward twenty years, and she tells me the science is clear, Meditation can help you lower your stress levels, lower your levels of inflammation, and help you sleep more soundly. In addition, these benefits will support your immune system so it can do its job-killing invaders such as cancer cells.   I know I need to manage my stress better. I'm a hyper person. I was always in trouble for talking too much in school. I was even prescribed Ritalin for a time. I also have a hard time sitting still, but I also want to be a more peaceful person, ahhh! I make Meditation more stressful than it should be. Meditation is just one more item that I don't accomplish on my daily to-do list. Instead of stressing out about how I'm not meditating, I will make it work for me. I'm going to start small: Move my body a bit, go for a short walk or stretch a bit. Get outside. Focus on breathing. I will observe my surroundings and be grateful. What I do to manage my stress might not be a traditional type of meditation but it’s a start!   Dr. Connealy's social info: ConnealyMD.com Dr. Connealy on Instagram (@ConnealyMD)   Enjoy a 10% discount with one of my favorite supplement companies, Seeking Health. 113. Uncovering a Cancer Crime Story with Kate Moore, Author of The Radium Girls (Re-release)18 Apr 202500:59:48
My friend Kim loves crime stories from Crime Junkie to Dateline. Me? Not so much. But I enjoy a good, not-too-gory crime story where the bad guy gets it in the end. Since I'm part of a vast cancer community, I hear stories that encourage me and some that make me so upset that I can't sleep. This is one of those stories. In 1898, Pierre and Madam Curie discovered radium. In 1903, Pierre Curie said, "He would not care to be alone with radium in a room as it would burn all the skin off his body, destroy his eyesight, and probably kill him."  In the 1920s, young women (average age 14) were hired to paint radium on watches and clock dials. Radium was fluorescent, so it made the numbers easier to read. However, it was also incredibly toxic and could turn bones into a fragile honeycomb. Fast forward to New Jersey in 1920 to the U.S. Radium Corporation (USRC). The owners and scientists at USRC knew that radium in large amounts was very dangerous. Yet these young girls were told, "After you dip your paintbrush in radium, put the tip in your mouth to make it a finer point before you start painting." When I told my husband how many of these young women died from radium poisoning, he said, "This is murder." Yes, it was murder. But no one went to jail. However, these women did get their revenge. ______ Ground Luxe When I was forced into menopause with my cancer diagnosis, restful sleep NO LONGER HAPPENED FOR ME. One of my podcast guests shared that he has become a great sleeper, partly thanks to grounding sheets. After my skepticism passed, my desperation to sleep took over. I started reading articles, and I discovered that the science is solid. Studies have shown that participants using grounding sheets experience a significant drop in cortisol levels, leading to improved sleep quality and reduced stress.  What did I have to lose? I researched, found the best grounding sheets on the market for the best price, and bought them. It took me a few nights, but I sleep much deeper now. I fall asleep faster and wake up feeling refreshed! I wish someone had told me about these sheets years ago. I contacted the company, and they offered my community a 20% discount! https://groundluxe.com/deborahenos Use the code Enos20 for 20% off. ______ Toups and Co It's happened...I'm putting beef tallow on my face, and my skin looks lush, and it doesn't smell like a hamburger :) I've seen the TikTok videos about beef tallow. Use the link below for 15% off of your order: https://toupsandco.com/DEBORAHENOS ______ Martinelli Apple Cider I like having a cocktail with girlfriends. And before I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I never gave it a second thought. Alcohol was part of my social life, or I'd have a glass of wine on a flight to chill out. Recent research has made me rethink my choices. Research shared by the Susan G. Komen Center tells us that each cocktail I consume can increase my breast cancer risk by 7%. And 2-3 drinks per day can increase my risk by 20%. This is why I always have Martinelli Apple Cider on hand. It's my favorite Mocktail! 🍏✨ https://www.martinellis.com/recipes/martinellis-mule/ ______ About Kate Moore Kate Moore is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Radium Girls, which won the 2017 Goodreads Choice Award for Best History, was voted U.S. librarians’ favorite nonfiction book of 2017, and was named a Notable Nonfiction Book of 2018 by the American Library Association.  A British writer based near Cambridge, UK, Kate writes across a variety of genres and has had multiple titles on the Sunday Times bestseller list. 19. Stress & Cancer - a Candid Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy28 Apr 202200:32:50
19. Stress & Cancer - a Candid Conversation with Dr. Leigh Erin Connealy   Dr. Connealy is leading a cancer prevention revolution that focuses on treating the patient with the disease and not the disease of the patient while determining the origin of the illness. She is the author of The Cancer Revolution, which has revolutionized the landscape of cancer treatment.   We had a riveting discussion about the fact that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed in the last 50 years. I find that statement shocking. Millions of dollars are invested yearly in cancer research; how could it be possible that the death rate from cancer hasn't changed?   In her book, Dr. C. sites a Japanese study that found that we have more than 75 million cancer cells in our body at any given time, and usually, our immune system keeps these cells in check. But when the immune system becomes compromised over a long period, these cells can begin to multiply.   Give today's podcast episode a listen to hear her fascinating answer!   Other topics we covered: Stress Only 5% or less of our cancer risk appears to be due to genetics. Can exercise help prevent cancer? The link between EMFs and disease The role toxins play in cancer and other diseases Cancer is now the leading cause of death in children Nanoplastics  According to Dr. Connealy, we are ingesting about a credit card size each day of plastic. Unfortunately, eating plastic isn't doing our health any favors. The latest research shows that these nano plastic/particles, due to their small size and molecular properties, can penetrate the cells and cause harmful effects.    With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Connealy has become a prominent leader in the field of Functional Medicine. She utilizes the best of all sciences, including conventional, homeopathic, eastern medicine, and modern medicine. She is the founder and medical director of the Cancer Center for Healing and Center for New Medicine. 18. Protect Your Peace to Prevent Disease (with Dr. Gregg Jantz)21 Apr 202200:37:23
18. Protect Your Peace to Prevent Disease (with Dr. Gregg Jantz)   Mental health, stress, and anxiety: we've all experienced these feelings.   I work to protect my peace.   What does that mean?   I'm careful about who is in my life, and I'm cautious about what I listen to because that goes directly to my mind.   Listen to today's podcast with Dr. Gregg Jantz to learn his easy tips to help you protect your peace. He was very clear with me that there are things we can do daily to have more peace and, thus, better health. Here are some of my favorite tips that I do daily to create more peace in my life (all of my tips received a big thumbs up from Dr. J!). I've worked hard to surround myself with encouraging and kind people. I've also canceled our television cable, which allows me to choose how and when I hear the news.   I had to recognize what I could control to guard my peace.   What I can control today: What I'm hearing. What I'm eating and drinking. How did I respond to negative situations or people? My attitude. That. Is. It.   Once I realized that I could control these things and only these things (newsflash, I had to learn I couldn't control people), my stress levels started to change, and I found my joy returning.   Here's the daily ritual I do to protect my peace: I start my day with a glass of water while I look out my window and not at my PHONE. I make a cup of coffee and walk outside, rain or shine, and look toward the sun, not at the sun as that can damage your eyes. I return inside and read my Bible and write in my gratitude journal. I take five deep breaths and do a little bit of stretching at the top of every hour.   Dr. Jantz is the founder of The Center A Place of HOPE in Edmonds, Washington, voted a Top Ten facility for Depression Treatment in the United States. Dr. Jantz pioneered Whole Person Care in the 1980s and is a world-renowned expert on depression, anxiety, eating disorders, technology addiction, and abuse. 13. The Health-Giving Power of Emotional Freedom! Chatting with Auntie Anne10 Feb 202200:30:38
13. The Health-Giving Power of Emotional Freedom! Chatting with Auntie Anne   In this episode, I continue my conversation with Auntie Anne. We discuss walking in emotional freedom, and understanding the power this has over your health & wellbeing. Auntie Anne Beiler is best known as the founder of Auntie Anne’s®, the world’s largest pretzel franchise. But before rising to success, Anne went through years of defeat, despair, and depression that kept her stuck in a place of darkness. It was through her pain, however, that she discovered a new purpose. Jonas and Anne’s peaceful life as newlyweds and young parents went into a tailspin after the death of their 19-month-old daughter, Angela Joy, who died tragically in a farming accident in 1975. Anne, in her mid-20s at the time, found herself descending into a world of darkness and depression, and eventually on the brink of suicide. Despite being a faithful churchgoer, she didn’t feel she could share her pain with friends or family members. She became silent and lost her voice. Jonas and Anne drifted apart. They didn’t know how to talk about the deep pain they were both experiencing. Instead, they remained silent partners who simply lived together and went through the motions of family life. Anne sought counsel from her pastor, who used the vulnerability of her grief to manipulate and abuse her for more than six years. This abuse of spiritual power propelled Anne into intense pain, blame, and shame that she thought would kill her. After confessing all of this to her husband, Jonas and Anne sought counseling and began a journey towards healing. The Beiler’s reconciled as God restored their marriage. Through the repair of their own marriage, Jonas found himself wanting to help others that were suffering from the same despair and hopelessness. He had a vision of offering free counseling services to their community. To support Jonas’ vision to help others, Anne bought a concession stand in 1988 at a busy farmers’ market in Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Their soft pretzels were a hit and Auntie Anne’s® was born. So, she began to confess. She shared her story publicly – the good, the bad, and the ugly – and something amazing happened. She felt lighter. She started to feel freedom. Anne continued to share her story whenever she could, and as she did, she was able to work through all the issues that tormented her – guilt, shame, pain, anger, depression, and the list goes on.   Enjoy 10% off from one of my favorite supplement companies, Seeking Health. Hilda mentions the two experts below during our conversation: Bruce H. 10. Can Stress Cause Cancer?20 Jan 202200:24:02
10. I love this quote Hilda told me from Dr. Jack Kruse, “You can't heal in the same environment that made you sick." 112. Fasting for Health & Hormones. A conversation with author, Dr. Tabatha Barber Part 210 Apr 202500:33:43
Oh, if I had a time machine and could return to when our kids were young, I would. I made my life complicated because I made our meals complicated. Let me explain: I became a mom at 40. I married Steve, who had two precious (most of the time ) daughters. So, I became an instant mom to two preteens, and as a bonus, I could finally use my nutrition training on my family. Hmmm...do you see any potential problems? I would make elaborate, nutrient-dense multi-course meals. These meals were so much work that I was almost too tired to eat or clean the kitchen. When the kids complained that the lunches I packed could feed three of their friends, it didn't faze me a bit. But they were so much work! We would order pizza if I was running late from work and couldn't make the elaborate meals. I couldn't seem to find the middle ground. As I shared this story with today's podcast guest, Dr. Tabatha Barber, she explained that most of her meals can be put together in 20 minutes or less—I say YES to that idea! Dr. Tabatha is the author of Fast To Faith, a best-selling book that contains her 20-minute or less recipes. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Every time I change the filter and see all the gunk it collects, I smile, knowing it's doing a great job keeping my air clean! And I'm so happy that all that gunk isn't going into my body ;) Click here to purchase: https://airdoctorpro.com/?oid=17&affid=6165 ______ About Dr. Tabatha Barber Dr. Tabatha Barber is a doctor, author, speaker, and devoted Jesus-lover, as well as a proud mom and grandma. 04. EMFs: Health Impact & Usable Tips to Manage Exposure30 Sep 202100:28:04
04. EMFs: Health Impact & Usable Tips to Manage Exposure Today's guest is Ben Salem, founder of Wave Block. Ben has been in the real estate world his entire career, and it was out of necessity that he created his product. He told me that he bought an EMF mentor to check his baby's room for radiation. He was shocked when he discovered how much radiation was around the crib. So he did some research and learned how to create a baby blanket that would deflect the waves. He then used that tech to create his product, WaveBlock. Necessity is indeed the mother of invention! There are native EMFs (electromagnetic frequencies) that come from the sun or earth, and then there are non-native, which come from cell phones, earbuds, and electric blankets, to name just a few. Many countries are now banning or limiting Wi-Fi in nurseries in an effort to protect children. A child's skull is ten times thinner than an adult skull. When I bought my first home in the early 90s, there was much talk about not living under powerlines due to EMFs. What's the answer? Are non-native EMFs dangerous? If other countries are starting to limit exposure in children, should we look at doing that here? What can we do to try to limit our EMF exposure while still enjoying our devices?   This episode is sponsored by Wave Block. Use the code Enos20 for 20% off of your Wave Block purchase. 02. The Role Fears Plays in Cancer & How to Get Out of Fear-Based Thinking in SECONDS!23 Sep 202100:28:18
02. The Role Fears Plays in Cancer & How to Get Out of Fear-Based Thinking in SECONDS! I’ve known Jamie and his wonderful wife, Donna, for years. They know how to help someone get out of fear-based thinking fast! In my younger days, I let fear run my life. I made so many important life decisions. I was scared, including getting married right when I graduated college because I didn’t think I could “make it” on my own - ugh! Fast forward to getting diagnosed with cancer, and I started to feel that fear creeping back into my life. I had to take back control. I wish I had this podcast episode with Jamie to listen to a year ago - his simple tips would have gotten me out of fear quickly - but at the end of the day, it’s up to me to stay out of fear. 03. Loneliness is the Enemy of Cancer Treatment — Mentorship Can Help You Cross the Finish Line23 Sep 202100:31:16
03. Loneliness is the Enemy of Cancer Treatment — Mentorship Can Help You Cross the Finish Line In this episode, I have a wonderful conversation with Jonny Imerman, founder of Imerman Angels. During my treatment, I was surrounded by people, but I felt alone. I was blessed to have a loving family and friends to bring me meals or take me to doctor appointments, but I still felt alone. The social worker at the hospital suggested I reach out to Imerman Angels and ask for a mentor. I was paired with Liza in Chicago who had already “crossed the finish line” with her breast cancer treatment. She encouraged me to do the same. I felt “heard” when I talked to her about my fears and concerns.  Being “heard” is one of the paths out of loneliness. I hope you enjoy this episode where Jonny shares his heart for people.   Learn more about Imerman Angels' mission and resources at ImermanAngels.org.   This episode is sponsored by Wave Block. Why Did I Get Cancer? Trailer03 Sep 202100:02:54
I'm Deborah Herlax Enos.   I'm a small-town girl turned TV nutritionist and healthy living expert. I design health programs for the average guy or gal. I did the best I could to take care of myself while helping others take care of themselves. Fast forward to September 1st, 2020: as if anything else could go wrong in 2020, I had a bad mammogram and then a bad biopsy.   Then the doctor called to tell me I had breast cancer.   I asked every doctor and medical technician the same question, "Why did I get cancer?" But, unfortunately, none of my doctors had answers for me. I just kept asking questions, reading research, and figuring out how not to get cancer again. I began to realize that there might have been a few other things I could have done to prevent cancer. I knew I couldn't keep this information just for myself and my friends.   This podcast is for anyone who: Wants to prevent cancer Has had cancer and doesn't want it to come back Loves someone who's in the cancer battle Why Did I Get Cancer includes: Interviews with experts Interviews with other cancer survivors Resources for navigating the murky waters of cancer treatment Discussions on practicing self-care during cancer Techniques and products I used during my cancer treatment And much more!   Why Did I Get Cancer launches mid-September! 111. Negative Thinking: Does It Affect Quality of Life? Part 103 Apr 202500:39:24
What a treat to have Dr. Tabatha Barber, author of the best-selling book Fast To Faith, on the podcast. She explained that our bodies function like a chemistry experiment. When we think in a certain way, we produce chemicals that can have positive or negative effects. I don't know about you, but I do find it shocking that the thoughts I think can create chemical messengers in my body that can heal me or harm me. You have so much more power than you realize! We also discussed a topic near and dear to my heart, JOY. Where's your joy? If we put everyone else first, that will steal your happiness. Dr. T. explained that we get caught up in the lie that taking care of ourselves is selfish. She said that she felt God tell her that caring for herself wasn't selfish but SELF PRESERVATION. Dr. Tabatha shared simple tips that can help you to change your mindset and increase your daily joy. Please enjoy part one of this conversation and join us next week when we talk about 20-minute or less dinners, fasting, and her lifelong battle with depression. ______ Young Living Here's the link to my favorite essential oil kit from Young Living! 110. Pressing Pause: Navigating Cancer with Dr. Laura James, Naturopathic Oncologist (Re-Release)27 Mar 202500:59:23
In today’s episode, we are joined by my naturopathic oncologist, Dr. Laura James. As you listen to our discussion, it's essential to acknowledge the whirlwind that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. For many, including myself, the speed at which treatment unfolds can be both a blessing and a challenge. The urgency of medical intervention, coupled with the support of excellent health insurance and the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 era, can lead to a swift entry into what is commonly referred to as the breast cancer industrial complex. But what exactly does this term mean? It's a new concept that encompasses medical advancements, institutional processes, and societal expectations surrounding cancer treatment. While grateful for the prompt attention and care received, there's an underlying need to address the implications of this fast-paced medical industry. For me, and perhaps for many others, navigating the breast cancer industrial complex has raised questions about agency, reflection, and informed decision-making. The speed at which decisions are made can sometimes overshadow the opportunity for thorough consideration, prayer, and seeking second opinions—elements crucial to holistic well-being. Together with Dr. James, we'll explore the importance of empowerment in the face of medical urgency, the role of advocacy in navigating treatment pathways, and the significance of holistic approaches to cancer care. ______ Air Dr. I've been using the Air Doctor air purifier for almost a year and absolutely love it! 109. Does Alcohol Cause Cancer?20 Mar 202500:36:25
Buckle up for today's episode with The Oncology Dietician, Nichole Andrews. I like having cocktails with girlfriends. I work too damn hard on my health to increase my breast cancer risk by 20% for something I often do mindlessly. Does this mean I don't drink any alcohol? NOPE. This means that if I really want that glass of wine, I will make an informed decision and enjoy every sip. The "old" me would have grabbed the wine and probably a second glass without considering what it might be doing inside my body. According to today's guest, she believes there are only two things that we consume that can really increase our risk of getting cancer. Alcohol is one. Any guesses as to what number two is? Listen to today's episode to find out! ______ Just Add Buoy Companies contact me every week, asking me to try their products. Honestly, I get food and supplement samples almost weekly! I first heard about it from Dr. Mark Hyman, and even though it was a bit of a splurge compared to what I usually spend, I'm so glad I invested. Every time I change the filter and see all the gunk it collects, I smile, knowing it's doing a great job keeping my air clean! And I'm so happy that all that gunk isn't going into my body ;) Click here to purchase: https://airdoctorpro.com/?oid=17&affid=6165 ______ About Nichole Andrews Nichole is an Oncology Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 12 years of experience helping cancer survivors take control of their nutrition and well-being. 108. I Wish I Would Have Known! My Key 2024 Takeaways13 Mar 202500:24:19
I wish I could have a "do-over" in two areas of my life: Prioritizing my morning schedule Speaking positively about situations or people instead of negatively. When my morning routine is off, the rest of my day suffers. I've FINALLY learned to listen to my inner voice, which advises me to take it slow in the morning instead of jumping straight into emails and calls. I give three tips on starting my day on today's podcast. Here's a sneak peek at one of my tips: TURN OFF THE LOUD ALARM ON YOUR PHONE. Hearing a loud noise while sleeping immediately puts your body into a stressful situation. Your blood pressure and heart rate increase, and your body starts making stress hormones. It can take hours for your body to calm down. Instead, I found some gentle instrumental music and used that as my alarm sound. This simple morning hack has added much-needed calmness to my morning, and I find that relaxed "vibe" spills over into the rest of my day. Winning! Confession time: I'm not always upbeat and cheery. Shocking, huh? I find that when my stress level goes up, my mindset and attitude get a little, well, poopy. Last week, I decided to spend a week making only positive statements. Guess what? It was a little quiet around my house because I wasn't complaining about the world, news, my recent breast reconstruction, you name it. I learned a valuable lesson: sometimes, when I want to connect with my husband after work, it's easier to default to negative. UGH, help me. I'm a work in progress, but I am learning. Listen to today's short solo episode to learn more of my simple tips for encouraging yourself and lowering your morning stress levels. Seriously, these tips work! ______ Just Add Buoy Companies contact me every week, asking me to try their products. Honestly, I get food and supplement samples almost weekly! Last week, a San Diego company called Just Add Buoy emailed me to ask if I wanted to try their electrolyte formula. I said yes because I've been looking for an electrolyte formula (without tons of sugar, both fake and real and no dyes) for years. They sent me some samples, and I must tell you how much I love them. I'm trying the Hydration Drops, and they have 87 trace minerals, Ionic ocean electrolytes, and antioxidants. And, also important to me, NO SUGAR (FAKE OR REAL), NO ADDITIVES OR DYES. And it's non-GMO. I like that it's flavorless, and I can add it to a smoothie or even my morning coffee without noticing any flavor change.
