vendredi 6 décembre 2024Duration 55:15

Joining us today is a British pop culture icon whose extraordinary career spans four decades, twenty Top 40 hits, and over 20 million record sales worldwide. As one of the biggest-selling female artists of the 80s and an award-winning horticulturist, she makes the transition between the worlds of music and gardening seem effortless: it’s the legendary Kim Wilde!

In this episode, Kim takes us through her incredible journey—from a shy girl raised in a musical household to a teen being catapulted to global fame with Kids in America, a song that changed everything for her and her family. Here, she reflects on the wild ride of her music career and reveals how stepping away from the spotlight and into gardening in her 30s gave her life a new sense of purpose.

Whether it’s on stage or in the garden, Kim’s story is a masterclass in reinvention, resilience, and staying true to yourself.

Kim’s brand new album, Closer, arrives on 31st January 2025—available to stream or download wherever you get your music.

Something from the Cellar: George Michael

mardi 19 décembre 2023Duration 28:36

Currently, the coveted Christmas no.1 spot is held by legendary duo Wham! thirty years after ‘Last Christmas’ was released. So we thought it no better time to celebrate one half of the era-defining double act: George Michael.

These are some of our favourite George Michael stories we’ve heard on the show, including how Aled Jones ended playing rounders with him while at Bob Geldof’s wedding - scarcely believable. Elsewhere, Martin and Shirlie Kemp reminisce about how George ended up joining them on their first date and TV stalwarts Richard and Judy look back on how he ended up at theirs for Sunday lunch!

Michelle McManus on twenty years since Pop Idol, dealing with misogyny, and finding love in unexpected places

mardi 12 décembre 2023Duration 01:03:35

It’s been twenty years since Michelle McManus’ cracking voice - and healthy dose of Scottish charm - won the second series of Pop Idol. To mark such a milestone, Kate sat down with her old friend to look back over it all.

From having to contend with the horrific misogyny that ended up stalling what she hoped would be a long music career, to winning the hearts of millions through sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe and stints on BBC Scotland, Michelle has seen it all. We chat about her incredible journey, reconnecting with the likes of Robbie Williams decades on, and how she’s maintained a sense of perspective regardless of what life’s thrown at her.

Tom Kerridge on pubs’ place in the community, getting out of your comfort zone and life’s jukebox

vendredi 8 décembre 2023Duration 01:00:09

It’s a slightly different affair today, as Kate heads to Chelsea’s hottest new pub to speak to its owner - who also happens to head up his own restaurant empire, have an honorary doctorate in philosophy and was recently on holiday with Kate. It’s legendary chef, Tom Kerridge!

Before a (delicious) lunch at The Butcher’s Tap & Grill, Kate chats with Tom about how vital pubs are in sustaining a sense of community around the country and the challenges he relishes in running his own restaurant empire. Plus, they run through the soundtrack of Tom’s life - Oasis aplenty - and discuss his journey as a father.
