In this introductory episode, I talk about the show and what you can expect from it, and then spend some time talking about why people typically get involved in the hobby of drinking whiskey. If you're new to whiskey and curious as to why people like it so much, this is for you! If you've been a whiskey lover for a long time and just want to know what this podcast is all about, then this is for you, too!

In this episode, my guests, Will and Tyler of the Viewer Regression Advised Podcast, review two single malt scotches with me. These whiskies are from different regions of Scotland, giving them very different flavor profiles. We get to see the vast difference between a peated Islay Scotch and a Highland Scotch whisky. Finally, we review Glenmorangie 10 year and Laphroaig 10 year single malt scotch whiskies. 

Redwood Empire is an up-and-coming distillery in Northern California, known best for their core line up of Lost Monarch Whiskey, Pipe Dream Bourbon, and Emerald Giant Rye. In this episode, Master Distiller Jeff Duckhorn and Head Distiller Lauren Patz walk us through the creation of the distillery, the ins and outs of their distilling process, and the flavor profiles of their core line up. We even get to taste and discuss their new Bottled-in-Bond whiskeys, Grizzly Beast and Rocket Top.

I specialize in tasting whiskey, but there is another spirit with a very similar tasting culture that folks like to talk about this time of year (just before the 5 of May) - tequila of course! I used up a whole bottle of Blanton's bourbon doing blind tastings with other whiskeys in order to find some that were better, and I certainly found them. I also learned a lot about the flavor profile of Blanton's, and began to understand why some people love it and others hate it. It is a hot debate online, so I break down my perspective on the reason for the huge divide and discuss the bottles that I found to be as good or better than Blanton's!

The world of Scotch Whisky is rich with different intricacies and flavor profiles, and one such characteristic that is often discussed is the "region" in which a Scotch is produced. Craft distillers are creating a very exciting time in the American whiskey market. Sometimes, with all of these new distillers popping up, it is difficult to keep track of all of the stories and people who make up this industry. Today's guests, Chase and Devin from American Mash & Grain, help to accomplish exactly that. They write up articles on some of the country's best craft distillers which helps the reader to get to know the distiller on a level that creates a true appreciation for the craft. Why are some bourbons so expensive? Sometimes it's a quality thing, sometimes it's a marketing thing, sometimes it's both. Our repeat-Guest-Noob Zack is back, and he is helping us learn a thing or two about bourbon! People always ask me about what gives different bourbons different flavors, and I almost always make sure that the mash bill is part of my answer. Specifically, how much wheat and/or rye is in it. In order to really nail down the difference between wheat and rye in a bourbon's mash bill, Zack and I walk through a blind tasting of Green River Bourbon vs Green River Wheated bourbon, which have identical mash bills except for one difference: the wheated replaces rye with wheat.

Have you ever wondered what whiskeys go the best with Christmas cookies? In this episode, my guest Noob, Zack, and I, put in the hard, grueling work to find that out. We taste a bourbon, scotch, rye whiskey, and finished rye (and even a surprise Irish Whiskey) along with Christmas cookies in order to see how different cookies affect the flavors of the whiskey. In the end, we draw some conclusions about what you can do to avoid wasting your whiskey with a bad pairing.

In this episode, we talk about Canadian and Japanese whisky. This topic rounds off the types of whiskey that we have been going over the past few months. We go into detail about a few of the things that make Canadian and Japanese whiskies unique, and end the episode by discussing the malting process as well as a few notes on the types of whiskey.
