In this episode, I sit down with Daniel Sobrino Ralston, co-curator of the  Francisco de Zurbarán exhibition at The National Gallery. Daniel takes us behind the scenes of his curatorial journey, sharing insights from extensive research trips across Spain aimed at presenting Zurbarán’s masterworks in their best possible light. We discuss key scholars who helped shape the exhibition, including Maria Luisa Caturla, and dive into fascinating attribution mysteries, such as Colossal Head, which was previously attributed to Vicente Carducho.

We explore how Zurbarán bridged the sacred and the everyday through his breathtaking still lifes, examining seminal works like Agnus Dei and their rich, multi-layered symbolism. Most importantly, this conversation reveals how Zurbarán crafted a visual language that remains accessible and deeply resonant for everyone.

In this episode, I speak with Danielle Mezh, curator of Invasive Species at Hypha Studios, an electric exhibition that brings together scent, sound, painting, sculpture, mixed media, live matter, and moving image.

We explore the thought processes behind the curation of the show, as well as some of the creative challenges encountered along the way. Danielle also discusses the role of gastronomy within the exhibition, and how multi-sensory workshops were developed in dialogue with the artists’ practices. Finally, we reflect on what unites the diverse group of artists involved, and how each of them engages with the central theme of Invasive Species in distinctly individual ways.

Nikki now heads the NVB | Niche Vantage Bureau, a consultancy firm dedicated to the global art and luxury industry. A key part of the Bureau’s mission is to support early-career and aspiring art & luxury market professionals by offering lectures, guidance and strategies for navigating their own career journeys within these global industries.

In this second episode of Where The Art Lives, I had the privilege of speaking with Janet Rady —art advisor, curator, and collector. With over thirty-five years of experience in the art world, Janet offers invaluable insights into the dynamics of the market, unpacking terms like flipping and reflecting on the auction value of contemporary emerging and mid-career artists.

Janet began her professional career at Sotheby's before embarking on an international journey across the art market. Janet currently runs an online gallery featuring curated exhibitions and organises pop-up shows. In 2022, she curated the first-ever Kyrgyz Republic Pavilion⁠ with exhibitor Firouz Farman Farmaian at the 59th Venice Biennale. She is also a Specialist in African and Middle Eastern Art at Olympia Auctions.

In this first episode of Where The Art Lives, I'm joined by Saloni Doshi, art patron, collector and founder of Space 118 Foundation founded in 2009. Born into a family surrounded by traditional textiles, Saloni maps her journey into art which began with her internship at Osian's auction house in Mumbai.

Since then, Saloni has fostered a profound career encouraging artists to have an independent voice. This year, Saloni has taken a seat at the Guggenheim museum's Middle East Committee. As an avid collector for over 20 years, Saloni possesses the cultural insight and expertise to cultivate the careers of regional artists while maintaining their heritage and roots.

Together, we unpack what it means to live with art through a vibrant cultural perspective.
