Out of the ashes of the internet a podcast was formed. Four friends from different backgrounds united to create a pod for the common man. Devoid of the tedium of critically acclaimed podcasts, these brave souls embarked on a holy mission, to bring the light-hearted attitude of discussing movies with friends to the podcasting scene. However, due to unforeseen budget cuts two of their number were lost to the void of the internet. Doomed for eternity to find nothing but cat videos and food challenges. The remaining heroes, JJ and Mattson searched far and wide for a suitable replacement but in the end settled for Alec. These two and a half heroes continue in their mission to bring an enjoyable conversation about movies and tv shows directly to you, our viewers. Join us wherever fine podcasts can be found and chime into the conversation to join our crew of misfits. Come follow us on social media on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter all @whatsourverdict. The Sandlot (1993)

Episode 367

mardi 17 juin 2025Duration 41:20

The Sandlot serves as the principal focus of our discourse, wherein we delve into its nostalgic portrayal of childhood adventures and the indelible impact of summer memories. This cinematic gem, released in 1993, encapsulates the essence of youthful exuberance, as it narrates the escapades of a group of boys who navigate the trials of friendship, fear, and the pursuit of identity through the lens of baseball. As we traverse the film’s narrative, we find ourselves sidetracked by personal anecdotes from our own formative years, providing a rich tapestry of reflections that resonate with the film's themes. The conversation not only celebrates the film's humor and heart but also evokes a profound sense of longing for simpler times, when the world outside beckoned with possibilities and adventures awaited at every turn. Join us as we explore both the cinematic and personal landscapes shaped by The Sandlot.

Independence Day (1996)

Episode 366

lundi 9 juin 2025Duration 43:17

JJ and Alec's discussion centers around the cinematic phenomenon of "Independence Day," released on July 3, 1996, a film that serves as a quintessential representation of summer blockbusters. We delve into the intricate dynamics of its narrative structure, particularly emphasizing the film's compelling first act, which establishes a palpable tension and sets the stage for the ensuing alien invasion. However, we identify a significant detriment in the film's pacing, particularly within the second act, where the narrative's focus appears disjointed and meandering, detracting from the overall experience. The contrasting performances of the ensemble cast, including notable contributions from Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, provide a rich tapestry of character interactions that elevate the film's comedic elements, yet the writing falters in moments that detract from the intended gravitas of the storyline. Ultimately, we grapple with the film's dichotomy; while it excels in moments of brilliance and nostalgia, it concurrently presents weaknesses that warrant critical examination, leading us to a nuanced evaluation of its merits and flaws.
