Peter Moskos is the author of the books Cop in the Hood as well as In Defense of Flogging. Peter is a Professor in the Department of Law and Political Science at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I want to find out from Peter what it is like policing in the Eastern District of Baltimore when he was a police officer and why he thinks we need to reconsider physical punishment in lieu of incarceration.   

Michael Walzer is an Emeritus Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study. He has previously taught politics and government at Princeton and Harvard as well. Michael has written the leading book in his field entitled Just and Unjust Wars. I want to discuss with him his moral philosophy of war and then apply it to the current conflict in Gaza.

Luke Nichter is the author of the new book entitled The Year That Broke Politics: Collusion and Chaos in the Presidential Election of 1968. After LBJ decided not to seek another term, the election was wide open for the candidates Richard Nixon, Hubert Humphrey and George Wallace.

Our first speaker will be Harvey Silverglate who is one of America’s top defense lawyers. Harvey has represented criminal defendants in some of the most famous cases.  He has taught at Harvard Law School and has been the Chairman of the Board of the ACLU’s Massachusetts Affiliate.  Harvey is an expert on the FBI and he feels that the ghost of J. Edgar Hoover haunts the FBI, and as a result, the FBI needs to be shut down, the staff fired, and a new national police force needs to be created to handle national crimes.  This will be a provocative discussion.

Our second speaker is Nick Eberstadt who is the American Enterprise Institute Henry Wendt Chair in Political Economy. Nick is the author of the book Men Without Work, and the second edition of the book will be released tomorrow.

Nick is going to discuss the steady increase in the number of men who are 25 to 54 who do not work and are not looking for work.  We are going to find out who these men are, what they do all day, and whether they are happy.  And finally, we are going to hear about what public policies may have exacerbated this problem and what we can do about it.

Parents and kids spend a lot of time worrying about getting into college.  But as soon as they enroll, their next concern is landing a big internship, because it may help in landing a job after graduation.

On today’s program, I want to focus on three issues.  How do kids get an internship?  What would be an ideal internship for a particular individual?  And what skill building should the inter focus on?

Our speaker will be John Ellis who is the former Dean of the University of California at Santa Cruz and a Professor of German Literature. The topic is the corruption of the Humanities, and what this means for the University.

Our final speaker is Patrick Allitt who is a Professor of History at Emory University.  Patrick is going to discuss the increasing relevance of George Orwell and his central role in the American literary canon.

Richard Fontaine and his team at the Center for a New American Security or CNAS developed war games with retired defense officials and members of congress.  A few days ago, there were war games to see what happens if China were to invade Taiwan.

Our speaker will be Mark Galeotti who is the author of the books We Need to Talk About Putin and The Weaponization of Everything.  Mark will speak about Putin’s war objectives and his implementation strategy. A couple of months ago the Russian government banned Mark from entering the country.

Our speaker is Paul Mango who helped manage Operation Warp Speed as the former deputy chief of the US Health and Human Services.  He has just written a new book entitled Warp Speed: Inside the Operation that Beat COVID, the Critics and the Odds.

Our first speaker is Moises Naim who is a fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and the author of the new book entitled Revenge of Power.

Moises will tell us about how populism, polarization, and post-truth undermine the democratic process.  And that there is a global trend in the past few decades away from democracies towards more authoritarian regimes.

Our second speaker will be Julian Waller who is a political scientist at George Washington University, and he has a new paper that was recently published in the magazine American Affairs entitled Authoritarianism here?

Julian will speak about why strong democratic governance in the US makes it unlikely that authoritarianism can take hold in the US because of the diffusion of power within the Federal government and how state and local control through federalism strengthens democracy.

Our speaker is Paul Kennedy is the J Richardson Dilworth Professor of History at Yale.  He has a new book out entitled Victory at Sea: Naval Power and the Transformation of the Global Order in WW2.

This episode Part 3 will focus on the fateful year 1943 when the war was won.  Paul will tell us why the US decided to invade North Africa instead of Europe, as a trial balloon. Why North Africa was followed up with an invasion of Italy that subsequently knocked Mussolini of the war.  We will learn about the internal strife within the allied alliance, the disputes between the armed services, and why the allies won.

Our first speaker will be Michele Margolis who is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania.  Michele has a new book entitled From Politics to the Pews: How Partisanship and the Political Environment Shape Religious Identity.

Michele believes that most political scientists misunderstand the role of religion and partisanship. The commonly held view is that religious people tend to vote Republican.  Michele believes that partisanship is the driving force and that Republicans want to be religious to fit in with their political ideology and correspondingly Democrats become more secular.

Our second speaker will be Julian Zelizer who is the Malcolm Stevenson Forbes, Class of 1941, Professor of History and Public Affairs at Princeton University.  He has a book entitled Burning Down the House: Newt Gingrich and the Rise of the New Republican Party.

Julian will talk about the rise of Newt Gingrich and his success of winning the HOUSE for the Republicans in 1994 for the first time in 40 years.  Julian will explain Gingrich’s political innovations like using C-Span, a Contract of America that nationalized a mid-term election, and aggressive use of ethic rules toppled the Speaker and led to a Republican victory.  I think the 1994 mid-terms has important similarities for the upcoming mid-term elections.

Our first speaker is John Taylor who is the Mary and Robert Raymond Professor of Economics at Stanford. John is famous for developing the Taylor Rule. John will explain his Taylor rule for setting the optimal short-term interest rate and why interest rates need to rise to quell rising inflation.

Our second speaker is Casey Mulligan who is the Ken Griffin Professor of Economics at University of Chicago’s Booth School and the Former Chief Economist for the Council of Economic Advisors in the Trump Administration. Casey will explain how government stimulus increased inflation and discouraged employment. He will also discuss his recent work in the pharmaceutical industry that shows how middlemen helped lower prices for consumers.

Our final speaker is Alan Auerbach who was my economics professor when I was a student at Penn. Alan is currently the Robert D. Burch Professor of Economics and Law at UC Berkeley. Alan will discuss the dynamics between current inflation and employment.

James Holmes is the J.C. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College. Naval technology is changing rapidly, and I want to learn if the US fleet is capable of repelling a Chinese invasion of Taiwan, and what that conflict would look like.

I was born and raised in Glencoe which is a couple of miles from the killing zone. My friends and family were at the Highland Park parade. Today, we will hear from my brother-in-law David Baum who is married to my wife’s sister Debra. And then we will hear from David’s daughter Brittany Wroblewski who is my niece.

Our speaker is Deyan Sudjic who is the former director of the Design Museum in London and the author of the book the Language of Cities.

I want to learn from Deyan why its important that cities give you freedom with its anonymity and how that differs from village life. Deyan will re-examine some of Jane Jacobs insights on city life in the present day, and he will evaluate the success and failure of rejuvenating former industrial sites in urban environments.

Our first speaker is Yale Historian Paul Kennedy. This is part 2 of our upcoming four-part history on WW2. I want to take you back to 1942 when nobody knew who would win the war. The Nazis had just conquered France after a few weeks of fighting, and the Americans had been humiliated at Pearl Harbor. U-Boats were everywhere in the Atlantic and were torpedoing America’s Merchant Marine. Paul will explain how the Allies successfully beat back the U-Boat threat in the Atlantic and why we fought Germany first.

Our second speaker will be Ilya Shapiro who recently resigned from Georgetown Law School after he was cancelled. Ilya did not support Biden’s decision to limit his Supreme Court nominee to exclusively African American women and he had to go.

Our first speaker today will be Sean Berkowitz who successfully defended Michael Sussmann of felony charges that he lied to the FBI about the Trump investigation. Sean will give us the inside look from the defendant’s perspective. Sean is an old friend of mine. We attended Hebrew School together and we were opponents in high school debate tournaments. Sean claims he won. Sean is also famous for being the special prosecutor in the Enron trials.

Our second speaker will be Robert Young who is a retired air force pilot. Youngster Aka Farmer will discuss the new blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick! I want to learn how Top Gun has influenced a generation of fighter pilots and our military men and women in uniform.

Our final speaker will be Darren Schwartz who is one of my golfing buddies. Darren is the new What Happens Next movie critic, and he will provide a humorous take on Top Gun Maverick. Buckle up!

Our second speaker is Professor John McGinnis from Northwestern Law School. Alexander Hamilton expected lawyers to be the first line of defense to defend our constitution, but Hamilton hadn’t contemplated the next generation of lawyers educated by today’s progressive law professors. John will discuss the implications of introducing woke ideas to all areas of legal education and what that means for students and society.

Eugene Kontorovich is a Professor of Law and the Executive Director of the Center for the Middle East and International Law at the George Mason Antonin Scalia Law School.  He also works with the Israeli think tank The Kohelet Policy Forum.

Greg Townsend is a former prosecutor who worked for the ICC tribunals in Rwanda, Yugoslavia, Kosovo and Lebanon. He is also a lecturer at The Hague University of Applied Sciences, Professor of Practice at Brandeis University, based in The Hague, and advisor on the International Criminal Court’s Advisory Committee on Legal Texts.

Greg Townsend worked for the ICC tribunals in Rwanda, Yugoslavia, Kosovo and Lebanon. I want to learn from Greg what the next steps will be in the ICC judicial process for the Israeli officials. Why they are being charged? And how this will all eventually play out. I also want to figure out whether these international institutions are in the Western democracies interest or if they have been co-opted by bad actors. I want to find out if Israel can legally defend itself if Hamas uses human shields.

David Bellos is a Professor of Literature at Princeton. David has a new book entitled Who Owns This Sentence: A History of Copyrights and Wrongs. I am interested in learning from David the rationale for Copyright. Is the term of 95 years for most copyrights too long? And should we be looking to extend copyright to such things as fashion or should we be restricting its use to derivative works?
