110: Behind the Magic – Guest Creator Shakira from Occasions by Shakira11 Nov 202500:54:51

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Behind the Magic, we’re thrilled to welcome Shakira Patterson of Occasions by Shakira, a family-first creator who turns the everyday into something extraordinary. Shakira opens up about life as a military spouse, raising four children, and building a brand centered on intentional memory-making. She shares how she started her career, the unexpected path it took, and how she developed her product line (including The Occasions Bin®) to serve families looking to celebrate the moments that matter.

We talk about how Occasions by Shakira truly came to life and how she became the mom who gives the rest of us endless ideas — thoughtful teacher gifts, creative touches for holidays, practical lunch ideas that go beyond sandwiches, and little moments of magic that feel doable in real life. She shares why she loves helping families celebrate with intention and how The Occasions Bin became such a natural extension of that mission. Everything she does feels grounded in heart and practicality, and it’s clear how much care she puts into creating things that make parents’ lives easier and more joyful.

Shakira also walks through the early days of her brand, what inspired her to start sharing her ideas publicly, and the real behind-the-scenes of balancing motherhood, content creation, and the constant changes that come with military life. Her honesty about juggling all of it makes this conversation so comforting and relatable.

And of course we talk about Disney. Our shared love for the parks, the nostalgia, the memories we’re creating with our kids, and the way Disney inspires our creativity brought out such a fun and natural flow in this episode. We kept finding these little common threads in how we see motherhood, family traditions, content creation, and finding joy in the middle of a busy life.

This conversation feels warm, real, and full of heart. If you’re someone who loves thoughtful ideas, intentional memory-making, and hearing the story behind a brand that brings so much joy to families, you’re going to love this episode with Shakira Patterson.

109: Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, Jollywood Nights, and Tips for Surviving the Holidays at Home11 Nov 202500:47:24

Send us Fan Mail

The holidays have officially arrived at Walt Disney World, and we’re talking about all things Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and Disney Jollywood Nights in this festive episode of the Well Hello Magic Podcast. If you’ve ever wondered which of these two holiday parties is right for your family, I’m breaking it all down with honest insights, practical planning advice, and real parent perspective.

We’ll start with Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom, the classic family favorite that brings snow on Main Street, U.S.A., exclusive entertainment, festive parades, and special treats that make the night feel like pure nostalgia. I’ll walk you through how to plan the night, what’s worth the wait, and what you can skip. You can also head to my website, wellhellomagic.com, for a full step-by-step guide and itinerary that helps you plan this event like a pro.

Then we’ll move into Disney Jollywood Nights, the grown-up holiday event that has quickly become one of the most stylish and spirited experiences at Walt Disney World. Think Hollywood glamour, jazzy Christmas tunes, character-filled lounges, and brand-new shows that truly sparkle. This year, Disney has made Jollywood more family friendly than ever before, adding entertainment and experiences that make it easier to bring the kids along while still keeping that elevated adult energy. I’ll share what’s new, what’s improved, and why this party might surprise you if you skipped it last year.

And because the holidays aren’t just about park hopping and party tickets, I’m wrapping up this episode with 10 practical tips for surviving the holiday season as a parent. From maintaining your peace to setting realistic expectations, I’ll help you slow down, set boundaries, and find moments of joy amid the chaos.

If you’ve listened to my past episodes on Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party or how to plan Disney during spring break, you know my goal is always to help you stress less and enjoy more. So grab a cozy drink, get comfy, and let’s dive into a season filled with lights, laughter, and just the right amount of pixie dust.

Can we stay over-stimulation? That is Walt Disney World in a nut shell. The overstimulation is a lot of children and adults.  It is important to have a game plan on how to resolve conflicts that may arise at the parks for exhaustion, dehydration and overstimulation.  In this podcast I cover what consequences of not having a game plan, pressuring kids to get on rides, how to prevent snapping at your kids and the important of alone time - even for 5 minutes.

008: When Disney Vacations Go Wrong – How Our Six-Day Family Trip Fell Apart (and What We Learned)28 Sep 202200:27:39

Send us Fan Mail

We had been planning a six-day Walt Disney World vacation for our family of 12 for more than six months. This was supposed to be the big trip of the year, complete with carefully booked dining reservations, Disney Genie+ strategies, and a resort stay we were all excited about. But sometimes, no matter how much you plan, things do not go the way you expect.

In this episode, I share the full story of how everything went wrong on our family trip. From resort and room issues to unexpected complications in the parks, I walk you through the challenges we faced and how Disney stepped in to make things right. You will hear exactly how Disney handled the situation, what compensation and solutions were offered, and the steps they took to turn a stressful situation into a salvageable vacation.

I also talk about the biggest lessons we learned as a family:

  • Why even the most carefully planned Disney trip can go sideways
  • What to do immediately when something is not right with your resort or park experience
  • How to advocate for your family while staying calm and respectful
  • Tips for large families and multigenerational groups traveling together
  • How to use setbacks as learning opportunities for future Disney vacations

Traveling with a big group adds extra complexity, and this trip was a reminder that flexibility and patience are just as important as having the perfect itinerary. If you have ever worried about what happens when things go wrong at Disney, this episode will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of problem-solving during a vacation and the ways Disney works to uphold its guest service reputation.

✨ By the end of the episode, you will feel more prepared to handle the unexpected on your next Disney vacation and more confident knowing that even when things go wrong, the magic can still shine through.

007: D23 Disney Expo Announcements 13 Sep 202200:25:29

Send us Fan Mail

Hey Disney Family! Here are all the announcements you may have missed at this year's D23 expo.

Disneyland has a lot of information about projects that are going to happen.

We have previews for movies for the next two years.

Walt Disney World
We did not get a lot of solid information. I am happy that Happily Ever After is coming back. Other than that, we don't have dates. There is the possibility of a remodel of Dinoland and new land in Magic Kingdom. There is no word on the Mary Poppins project, and nothing else is concrete. No nighttime parade either. So nothing that new at Walt Disney World but a lot of AWESOME blue sky projects!

006: How to Plan a Walt Disney World Trip in 15 minutes06 Sep 202200:23:18

Send us Fan Mail

Can you plan your Walt Disney World trip in 15 minutes? You can, well, at least an outline for your trip in 15 minutes. Planning a Walt Disney World can feel overwhelming, and the most asked question I get is, "Where do I start?"

So this podcast, I am going to cover my list to help you plan the outline of your trip in 15 minutes.

  • Pick a date
  • Book your resort
  • Buy Park tickets and make park reservations
  • Decide on transportation to Walt Disney World
  • Prep for my 60-day window – character dining, table dining, and enchanted extras. One of the most significant decisions I make is whether I need to do any of these things on a trip.
  • Make a daily plan even for rest days.

002: Character Dining, why you should and shouldn’t book!18 May 202200:29:37

Send us Fan Mail

Let's dive into character dining. I see a lot of people stressing over getting ALL the reservations to character dining meals. Let’s go over why you should and should not do character dining. The  cost and how much time it takes to enjoy a character meal. Is it better to do it on a rest day, or do you use it as a break at the parks? There are so many options for character dining, and you make to make sure you do what is suitable for your family. Also, there is no reason to overload your trip with dining with all the great quick service options.

Then I go over EACH character dining experience using the ranking list from Undercover Tourist.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope to see you real soon!

099:The Biggest Disney Planning Mistakes Families Make and How to Do It Right16 Sep 202500:40:15

Send us Fan Mail

Planning a Disney trip is one of the most exciting things a family can do, but it can also be one of the most overwhelming. With so many rides, restaurants, resorts, and extras, it’s easy to feel like you need to do everything, eat everything, and see everything in just a few days. The truth is, most families approach Disney the wrong way, and it leaves them stressed, overscheduled, and overspent. In this episode, I’m sharing the real Disney advice that might hurt your feelings a little but will absolutely make your vacation better. These are the tips that I’ve learned after years of visiting Disney World with my own four kids, taking multi-generational trips with grandparents, and talking to countless families who thought they had it all figured out until they got to the parks.

The first piece of advice is that you cannot do it all. Disney World is simply too big, and if you try to squeeze everything into one trip, you’ll end up tired, cranky, and disappointed. Instead of trying to “win” Disney by riding every ride, the smarter approach is to prioritize what matters most to your family and let the rest go. Another piece of advice that stings for a lot of people is that the Disney Dining Plan isn’t always worth it. Disney markets it as a way to save money, but for many families, especially those with kids who don’t eat like adults, it ends up costing more than paying out of pocket. It can feel frustrating to hear that, but knowing it in advance can save you hundreds of dollars and make your meals less stressful.

Another mistake families make is refusing to slow down. Disney is not the kind of place where you can go nonstop from morning until night without consequences. I always recommend a midday break, whether that means swimming at the resort, taking a nap, or just sitting in the shade. It feels counterintuitive when you’ve paid so much for park tickets, but skipping that break often leads to meltdowns—for both kids and adults. The same goes for traveling with grandparents. Multi-generational trips are wonderful, but assuming grandparents will have the same stamina as kids is unrealistic. Planning time to rest and adjusting expectations keeps everyone happy.

One of the most important things to remember is that while Disney is incredibly safe, kids can still get lost in the parks. Having a plan for what to do if that happens is essential. Equip kids with a MagicBand, show them how to find a Cast Member, and pick a meeting spot. It’s advice that some parents don’t want to think about, but it makes a huge difference if you ever face that situation. Finally, don’t assume that Disney pixie dust will fix everything. Special moments sometimes happen, but they aren’t guaranteed. Creating your own magical touches whether it’s ordering a cake, booking a character meal, or surprising your kids with matching shirts ensures that you don’t leave the magic up to chance.

At the end of the day, this advice might sound like tough love, but it’s the kind of truth that can turn a stressful vacation into a magical one. Disney isn’t

096: Lead Planner Life & Summer Disney Trip Catch-Up19 Aug 202500:47:00

Send us Fan Mail

this episode, we’re diving headfirst into the world of Disney trip planning — specifically, what it’s really like being the lead planner. You know…the person in charge of flights, G+ strategy, resort picks, dining reservations, and making sure your cousin doesn’t Venmo you two weeks after the trip is over. 😅

Whether you’re coordinating a multigenerational vacation, a besties’ weekend getaway, or just trying to keep your own family alive and joyful inside Magic Kingdom, I’m breaking down the mental load lead planners carry — and sharing some of my tried-and-true resources, systems, and tips to make it less stressful and way more magical.

Then, I’m catching you up on our wild summer Disney adventures. In July, we spent a full 10 days on property — tackling the parks in peak heat, trying every snack Twinkie the Kid put out in the name of research, pool hopping like professionals, squeezing in midday naps at the resort, and perfecting the art of getting our kids to watch fireworks without anyone having a total emotional breakdown.

And just to keep my stress levels high, I turned around and flew right back a few weeks later for a Disney creators’ weekend, which included:

  • a Grand Floridian Spa day (yes, facials before fireworks are a thing),
  • a VIP tour that made me never want to wait in a Seven Dwarfs line again, and
  • one more surprise moment watching Disney Dreams That Soar from the train station balcony — pure magic.

Finally, we’re chatting about what’s new in the world of Disney planning right now and I’m giving you all of my favorite current tips and tricks — from handling Genie+ with grace (kinda) to keeping grandparents happy, to saving your sanity with one simple rule: remember who needs the stroller.

094: How We Conquered the Four Park Challenge at Walt Disney World — With Kids, Grandparents, and Zero Regrets!01 Aug 202500:38:44

Send us Fan Mail

Ever wondered if you could visit all four Walt Disney World theme parks in one day  with kids, teens, and grandparents in tow? In this episode of Well Hello Magic: The Podcast, I’m walking you through every magical (and exhausting) step of our family’s Four Park Challenge to celebrate my niece’s birthday.

From rope drop at Animal Kingdom at 7:00 AM to leaving Magic Kingdom at 1:00 AM, we tackled 17 attractions, dined at 5 different locations, and covered over 12.5 miles. Whether you’re wondering if this challenge is even possible with little ones or looking for a step-by-step breakdown on how to plan your own Disney park-hopping day, this episode is packed with everything you need to know.

✨ In this episode, I break down:

  • How to plan a Four Park Challenge with kids of different ages
  • The best route and park order to make your day efficient
  • How to use Lightning Lane to save time on the most popular rides
  • What to pack to survive 18 hours in the parks
  • When to rest, when to push through, and when snacks save the day
  • How to involve grandparents and still keep the day manageable
  • Why renting a stroller was essential even for our older kids

You’ll get our full itinerary what time we entered each park, which rides we hit, how we handled mealtimes, and how we made it feel magical for every generation. From Kilimanjaro Safaris and Guardians of the Galaxy to Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway and ending with TRON and Barnstormer at midnight, this was a day we’ll never forget.

Meanwhile, our littlest traveler enjoyed a slower-paced day back at the resort with the grandparents  and yes, that was part of our strategy too. This challenge doesn’t have to mean dragging toddlers through the entire experience. In fact, I’ll talk about how you can plan your own Four Park Challenge while splitting the day to fit your family’s unique needs.

You’ll hear:

  • How to do a Four Park Challenge at Walt Disney World with kids
  • The most efficient way to park hop using Disney transportation
  • When to schedule your Lightning Lanes and what to skip
  • Why EPCOT’s International Gateway and the Skyliner are key to saving time
  • Tips for squeezing in thrill rides
  • Where to eat fast, what snacks to grab, and why cinnamon rolls after 10 PM taste better
  • How to still enjoy fireworks, parades, and character photos without burning out

Final stats from our Four Park Challenge:

  • 17 attractions
  • 5 dining stops
  • 29,431 steps
  • 12.63 miles
  • Countless memories made

This is a real, honest look at how a family can take on the Four Park Challenge and make it work even when you're tired, it rains, or your daughter needs a stroller at hour 14. No highlight reel here, just the real magic.

085: Disney vs. Epic Universe: Can Universal Studios Finally Compete?20 Mar 202500:32:58

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Well Hello Magic, we’re taking a deep dive into one of the biggest game-changers in Orlando theme parks—Universal’s Epic Universe. This brand-new park is set to reshape how families plan their Florida vacations, and we’re here to break down every detail.

Will Epic Universe finally shift the balance of power in Orlando, or will Walt Disney World remain the reigning champion of family entertainment? With cutting-edge technology, immersive new lands, and an expansion unlike anything Universal has done before, we explore how this park stacks up against Disney’s offerings.

We’ll take you through each new attraction at Epic Universe, from Super Nintendo World to the How to Train Your Dragon land, and discuss whether Universal has finally designed a park that caters to all ages—including toddlers and younger kids. For years, Universal has been known as the thrill-seeker’s destination, but has this new addition changed that perception?

Another big question: Is Universal Studios still a quick add-on to a Disney World trip, or has it become a vacation destination in its own right? We’ll discuss whether a split-stay between Disney and Universal is the best approach or if Universal has finally reached the level where families can dedicate an entire trip to its resorts and parks.

And what does this mean for Disney? With Universal aggressively expanding, is Disney feeling the pressure to innovate faster, or will its legacy and loyal fan base keep it ahead? We’ll analyze the competition, speculate on Disney’s response, and discuss whether Universal could truly rival Disney’s dominance in Orlando.

All that and more in this episode of Well Hello Magic! If you love theme park strategy, insider tips, and deep dives into the biggest industry trends, this is an episode you won’t want to miss.

🎧 Tune in now and let’s talk theme parks!

084: Our Epic 4-Day Disney Trip with Kris from Happily Ever Park Hoppers04 Mar 202501:35:29

Send us Fan Mail

Get ready for a magical episode as I welcome my friend Kris from Happily Ever Park Hoppers to the podcast! We’re both Disney moms—I have four kids, and she has two teenagers—so this trip was a rare opportunity for us to experience Disney without our families. We’re also both military wives, which gives us a unique perspective on Disney travel and how we make the most of military discounts and benefits.

Even though we share a love for Disney, our experiences growing up were different—Kris was raised going to Disneyland, while I grew up going to Walt Disney World. So, this trip was a perfect blend of our perspectives as we explored the parks together!

We stayed at SpringHill Suites, Dolphin Resort and Coronado Springs, giving us a chance to compare two very different resort experiences. Our trip was packed with excitement, from witnessing the Super Bowl Parade featuring MVP Jalen Hurts in Magic Kingdom to immersing ourselves in EPCOT’s Festival of the Arts, one of Disney’s most visually stunning events of the year. Of course, no trip would be complete without a ride on our all-time favorite attraction, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!

We also had an unforgettable dinner at Rose & Crown, securing a front-row view of Luminous: The Symphony of Us, EPCOT’s breathtaking nighttime spectacular. Throughout the trip, we explored Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom, hitting up shows and rides we often miss when traveling with our families.

But that’s not all—this episode includes exciting updates on our latest ventures! I share details about my 2026 Walt Disney World retreat, and Kris talks about her brand-new journey as a Disney travel agent.

If you love Disney trip planning, park strategies, and behind-the-scenes insights into Disney content creation, you won’t want to miss this episode! You can also watch the full video version on YouTube at Well Hello Magic, where we share footage and photos from our trip.

In this week’s episode of the Well Hello Magic Podcast, I’m sharing our family’s recap of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World. This was one of those quick Disney trips that filled our cups completely, and we packed in so much magic. From driving to Disney with kids to candy trails and fireworks, this episode covers it all.

We start by talking about what it’s really like to drive to Disney as a family. I share our best tips for long car rides with kids, how to break up the drive so it feels manageable, and how to make it part of the fun instead of just a chore. On my blog, you can find my full guide with three different ways to drive to Disney based on your family’s needs.

Next, we cover one of those small but important details parents forget until the last minute — the school vacation request form. I explain what we include, how to make it sound educational, and why it’s helpful to plan ahead so teachers know what to expect.

Then we dive into everything Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. This year, we skipped character lines and focused on the shows, fireworks, and trick-or-treat trails. The candy trails were incredible, and the allergy-friendly option worked perfectly for our crew. We watched the Boo-to-You Parade, saw the Cadaver Dans, and ended the night with the Not-So-Spooky Spectacular fireworks. We grabbed dinner at Pecos Bill and took our time soaking in all the fall décor and atmosphere before heading out. Sometimes skipping the big moments and slowing down is exactly what makes the night memorable.

Before heading home, we rented a pontoon boat on Bay Lake, which was one of the highlights of the trip. It’s such a calm and beautiful way to see Disney from a different perspective, and it’s a great family activity for a non-park day. We also spent some time at the Community Hall before checkout — another hidden gem for families who want a slower pace before traveling home.

This episode is full of tips for making quick Disney trips more magical, slowing down to enjoy the details, and keeping the nostalgia alive while traveling with kids. Grab a pumpkin spice latte and listen in as we talk about Halloween fun, family adventures, and finding little moments of calm in the middle of all the Disney excitement.

Why Start Planning Now?

If you’re dreaming of a Disney Christmas getaway, it’s never too early to start. This episode will help you map out a strategy and ensure you’re ready to secure those must-have reservations.

Tools & Resources to Help You Plan

I’ve created a Disney Vacation Planning Guide and a Disney Vacation Workbook—both available on my website—to help you stay organized and on track. These resources are designed to simplify the planning process, from budgeting to itinerary building.

Although we didn’t get to visit Hollywood Studios or experience Jolly Nights, our trip was still packed with fun holiday festivities. I’ll share some highlights, favorite moments, and things we learned along the way.

Dreaming of a Longer Stay

If I had my way, my dream Christmas vacation at Disney would be about nine days long. That extra time would allow us to explore more of the parks, enjoy the resort amenities, and soak up all the holiday magic without rushing. But even with a shorter schedule, we had a very full, very happy trip filled with wonderful family moments.

106: Behind the Magic – Guest Creator Amanda from Once Upon A Marathon28 Oct 202501:26:44

Send us Fan Mail

I am so excited to welcome Amanda Kass from Once Upon a Marathon back to the podcast. Amanda is a certified running coach, an incredible content creator, and one of my favorite people to talk to about all things Disney. She is not only an expert in runDisney but also someone who pours her heart into helping others reach their running goals.

Amanda began running in graduate school and has since completed countless Disney races, including the Dopey Challenge, which is one of the most intense and inspiring accomplishments in the runDisney community. On her website, she offers training plans, registration guides, race weekend tips, and strategies designed to help you cross the finish line feeling strong and confident. She provides clear, detailed, and practical information that runners can trust, whether they are preparing for their very first 5K or another marathon weekend.

But Amanda’s knowledge goes far beyond the races themselves. She is known for her deep dives into Disney business news and strategy. She has a special gift for taking complicated information and breaking it down in a way that anyone can understand. Whether it’s major updates, policy changes, or important lawsuits, she shares everything with clarity and insight. My personal favorite deep dive is her coverage of the Disney lawsuit. She is always my first stop for smart and thorough updates.

More than anything, Amanda is a wonderful person and a great friend. She has built a supportive and knowledgeable community that encourages runners to dream big and believe in what they can achieve. She has a genuine love for Disney and for the running community, and it shines through in everything she creates.

You can find her on Instagram at @onceuponamarathon and on her website www.onceuponamarathon.com
, where her training guides and resources are available. This conversation is going to be such a good one, and I cannot wait for you to hear it.
