The Soul of Golf

Season 1 ¡ Episode 1

jeudi 8 janvier 2026 • Duration 32:48

Merry New Year! After several months of talking about what we were going to talk about, we had an epiphany that what we loved about golf was its soul: playing the game, the friendships, the games, the trips - all of it. We discuss what the soul of golf means to us and set the table for what's to come.

Nicole McGirr on Strength, Teaching, and the Future of Golf

Season 1 ¡ Episode 8

Nicole McGirr (a.k.a. “Magic”) joins Weekday Golf for a laughter-filled hang on what actually helps golfers get better: strength, mobility, balance, and smarter expectations. We talk TPI assessments (and why your “golf fitness handicap” is probably higher than you think), the real tradeoff between technique vs. physical limitations, and what it’s like growing up in golf as a girl. The Secret Golf Bet That Took Over Our Friend Group

Season 1 ¡ Episode 12

lundi 30 mars 2026 • Duration 49:30

Golf has a way of inspiring some pretty ridiculous behavior among friends.

In 2024, our friend Jerry played 201 rounds of golf. So heading into 2025—with his first baby on the way and a job search underway—we started wondering: how many rounds would he actually play this year?

What began as a casual conversation at the bar turned into a secret betting pool predicting Jerry’s entire golf year. And one ironclad rule: Do not tell Jerry.

By the end of the year, 73 friends were involved. And Jerry still had no idea.

This is the story of the betting pool we called "Jerrymandering"—and what it reveals about the strange sociology of golf friendships.

Tom Johnson: Coaching, Competition, and the Soul of Golf (Part 2)

Season 1 ¡ Episode 11

lundi 23 mars 2026 • Duration 01:00:40

This is Part 2 of our conversation with Tom Johnson. If you haven’t listened to Part 1 yet, it’s worth starting there.

After sharing the story of his journey through professional golf and recovery, Tom turns to what he’s learned from the game since then. We talk about how his experience as a player shaped his philosophy as a teacher, why ego can be the biggest obstacle in improvement, and what separates golfers who actually get better from those who stay stuck.

Along the way, Tom explains the lessons he learned from some of the game’s most respected instructors, the different ways players practice and compete, and why golf continues to challenge and shape him today.

We close by asking Tom what the “soul of golf” means to him after everything he’s experienced in the game.
