Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker from 2019 is a bad film.... although heavily disguised as a good film. Everything has been thrown at this to make it palatable- money, CGI, jokes, old characters, and action galore. However, once all this has been skimmed off the surface what we're left with is a big, fat heap of inconsequential nonsense.  Listen as Gary and Jay relive the jerky, flashy, crashy Rise of Skywalker until they get motion sickness. Morbius from 2022 is a bad film. Special guest Nic joins us this week to discuss this superhero nonsense mess. Is he a goodie? Is he a baddie? We don't know, and I don't think the film knows either. Matt Smith and Jared Harris do their best to try and save it from being Jared Leto'd, but they are not successful. Batman and Robin from 1997 is a bad film. All this starts because Jay's seen The Batman (2022) but why we deserved this I don't know. George Clooney stars in but ends up being sidelined by everyone in this most 90s of films: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Uma Thurman, Chris O'Donnell, Alicia Silverstone, Elle Macpherson... there's a campy nonsense tone but the whole thing plain stinks. What an absolute pile.

Robowar from 1988 is a bad film. Did you like Predator? Well so did the makers of this film, so they decided to remake it on a budget of £8. I hope you enjoy muscly men wandering through a jungle and unintelligible Daft Punk tribute acts, because that's what you get. The same director made the brilliantly awful Cruel Jaws which we also reviewed. Please note, we also talk a little about Studio 666 but in between recording and releasing Taylor Hawkins sadly passed away - as much as Gary didn't enjoy the film we didn't feel right cutting it out of the episode. RIP Taylor Hawkins, rock on.

Abraxas from 1991 is a bad film. Jesse "The Body" Ventura stars in this lacklustre Terminator rip-off, except with totally inappropriate music and shonky effects. Samurai Cop from 1991 is a bad film. Actually, saying that, it is an AMAZING film. It's the standard by what bad films should be. It's an important film for us, as it's the film that Jay and I watched that made us say "hey, let's record a podcast about films as bad as this..." so we felt it was a good candidate for our 1st anniversary special. That's right, we've been waffling on for a year. As a variation from the normal theme, we chat along live with the episode as it plays out instead of batching up our thoughts as a conversation. Plankton from 1994 is a bad film. It's a zero budget monster-chases-the-teenagers-around-a-boat film, you know one of those. It thinks it's Alien, Aliens, The Thing, Airplane! and lots of others while surprisingly being nowhere near as good as any of those. Everyone has dubbed over their own lines, weird voiceovers stalk the cast, and has the worst sense of humour ever.

The good is Ian McDiarmid, the relationship of the two Jedi, and the final act generally. The bad is... everything else. But by far the best of the prequel trilogy. THX 1138 from 1971 is a bad film. Well actually it isn't that bad. It has a saggy middle act but it's visually interesting and really well edited. This was George Lucas's first proper film, the dystopian underground nightmare sees Robert Duvall and Donald Pleasance work their way out of their routine existences.

Cruel Jaws from 1995 is a bad film. Not part of the Jaws franchise, no not at all, not even when mentioning Peter Benchley in the credits, this godawful shark attack film is utterly bonkers. Features Hulk Hogan (not really), a dolphin sanctuary, an array of bullhorns big and small, and some of the most brazen rip-offs of the Star Wars theme music of all time. It is however a bit of a laugh.

Tiptoes from 2003 is a bad film. I'm staggered by the terrible choices made in this film, chiefly of all allowing Gary Oldman to play the role of a dwarf. Who's twin brother is average sized Matthew McConaughey. Patricia Arquette, Peter Dinklage and Kate Beckinsale also appear in this movie. It's hard to comprehend who this aimed it, but it definitely wasn't us.

USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage from 2016 is a bad film. Nicolas Cage heads a cast that drains any and all interest from this harrowing true story. Imagine turning a war story about a shipwreck, with sharks and nuclear weapons into a completely dull, plodding affair. That's exactly what this film does.

Megapython vs. Gatoroid from 2011 is a bad film. It’s exactly what it sounds like—massive mutant animals fighting it out, with a whole lot of campy nonsense in between. But Deborah Gibson and Tiffany are in it, so there’s that. Starcrash from 1978 is a bad film. It stars Christopher Plummer and David Hasselhoff, and features a score by John Barry. What could go wrong? Well nearly everything. A dreadful screenplay, nonsensical plot, weird line delivery are just some of the things that plain don't work.

I mean, it literally describes the podcast. I'm not sure what more to tell you.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull from 2008 is a bad film. It really wants to feel like classic Indy, so it throws in familiar beats—just with more CGI and fewer good ideas. But John Hurt’s in it, so there’s that. We try to make sense of the fridge thing, the alien thing, and the Shia LaBeouf thing. Also, was this the moment Steven Spielberg stopped caring? Let’s find out. (PS this was first recorded to tie in with the release of Dial of Destiny in 2023, so you can understand if we have the odd dated reference! Dungeons and Dragons from 2000 is a bad film. Terrible casting, awful story, dreadful dialogue... did I miss anything? No it's a shocker. Listen in to find out what Tom Baker and Richard O'Brien add to the mix. A little chat on I SEE YOU to boot.
