Hopefully this review helps you to achieve your milestone. We Like Drinking has been a blessing to me. At first for keeping my husband fully entertained and out of my hair for an hour each week. Though, since we have been on the road, I can't help but join in and listen. The energy of this show is contagious and I have learned an incredible amount of information. And when you're stuck putting labels on wine bottles for hours on end, there is no better way to pass the time. Word!

Shatterhand
British Beer Tasting Listener Question
Doley asks - Any tips on a home wine making kit? Nothing elaborate, but preferably using real grapes, not concentrate. Planning for my retirement.
From Steven Sealock, winemaker at Pacific Rim Winery: Home winemaking is like sailing a small boat. Things can go wrong fast. Some small wineries will sell grapes to individuals. Reds are complicated from a color extraction perspective. Whites are arguably easier to make but harder to cold stabilize.
From Zeta Cellars, a home winemaker, that makes wine using grapes, and some damn fine ones if I do have to say: High end wine kits can sometimes come with skins. Skins in a wine kit allows the wine maker to get more extraction than a regular kit offers. Making wine from actual grapes will require large investments and a big jump in the learning curve. It's not for everyone and one can mess up a good product very easily. Have him look up the company RJS on the internet. They have a number of kits with skins. If he wants to get frustrated and discouraged early than yes give him advice to buy vitis vinifera grapes and go from there... haha, not for the faint of heart

Matthew R - Interesting/good/unique food and beverage pairings. What makes for a good pairing? what are some classic pairings and why they work?
Douglas T - What would happen if Three Tier really -was- overturned? Would smaller markets really start to expand and diversify their selections? Would a bunch of us -really- start mail-ordering their wine because there's just no local store that stocks much older Beaujolais and simply put, that's your jam?

Grapes and Grains - Hey drinkers, we are always on the lookout for new shows or podcasts that live in this lovely boozy space we like to call home. The ladies at Grapes and Grain are into their second season and we thought you should be aware of what they are doing. Join Laura and Tiney on their individual educational journeys. Laura is studying to be a sommelier, and Tiney is working on both her beer judging and cicerone certifications. The format is that they pick a topic each week, then both purposely get into the weeds about some facet of the topic related back to wine or beer. A piece I really like is that they don't know what each other are going to be talking about on the show, so there is some q&a back and forth as each they tell their stories which makes it a really interesting listen. You can check them out on your favorite podcast catcher by searching or Grapes and Grain.

Now the challenge - I challenge you all to play a round of 2 truths and a lie.
Dmitry Asks - how do you pick wine for a huge party?
Cody Asks - Boxers or Briefs?
What is your most embarrassing drinking story?
Kristen Asks - What is the best jumping off point for getting into spirits?
Jeff M Asks - Which is more important, the grape or the winery?
Ever had a beer flip?
Beer, wine, spirit, one everyday, one once a month, and one never again.
Doley hasOne comment and two questions:
None of you talk much about your wives. They must be absolute saints for letting you loose every week to do the show.
Question for each of you: If you had $50 to spend on wine, beer or liquor, what do you buy?
Question for Jeff Solomon: We know you're a school teacher. In these days of nonstop pearl-clutching (and the fact that you live in the most triggery, hippie bullshit state in the country) have you gotten any grief related to your job for what you do on the show? Like, "Oh, my, I heard my daughter's teacher Mr. Solomon say fuck and other filthy stuff on that podcast about drinking?"
Sam asks -
You're on a desert island. You have the choice of one of the following to be the only alcoholic beverage for the rest of your sad, shipwrecked existence. What do you choose:
A -- Johnny Bootlegger Syndicate City Sour Peach
B -- Pork rind fat washed Malort
C -- Fermented Horse Milk Old fashioneds
