On this week’s episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza heads to Toon Town as the guys welcome Bob Mackey and Henry Gilbert back to the program to chat about the totally abysmal live-action/animation hybrid, Garfield! Was Bill Murray that much of a ‘get’ for this movie that the studio accepted this disinterested, nothing vocal performance? Why is Garfield shaking his ass to the Black Eyed Peas and Baha Men in this movie? And how come Garfield is the only animal that’s a cartoon here? WOOF. PLUS: Thank GOD for Tobo in this movie!

Garfield stars Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Stephen Tobolowsky, with the voices of Nick Cannon, Alan Cumming, David Eigenberg, Brad Garrett, Jimmy Kimmel, Debra Messing, Richard Kind, Debra Jo Rupp, and Bill Murray as the voice of Garfield; directed by Peter Hewitt.

S13 Ep682: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom27 Jun 202301:59:51

The 2023 Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza goes to Adventure Movie Land this week as the guys chat about the iffy-but-fun 1984 prequel, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom! As much as this film has some great scenes and set pieces, that dinner scene was, is, and always shall be wretched! But, how fantastic is Ke Huy Quan’s performance in this, along with his great chemistry with Ford? Is Willie Scott one of the most annoying characters in film history? And that entire mine cart sequence: Top 3 Indiana Jones action set piece, right? PLUS: An extended discussion on old-timey parachutes!

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom stars Harrison Ford, Ke Huy Quan, Kate Capshaw, Amrish Puri, Roshan Seth, Philip Stone, David Yip, Roy Chiao, D.R. Nanayakkara, and, for some reason, Dan Aykroyd as Art Weber; directed by Steven Spielberg.

The Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza goes shopping this week as the gang welcomes back friend of the show, Ben Worcester to chat about the not-great comedy, Paul Blart: Mall Cop! Why is 90% of this film’s comedy just poking fun at Kevin’s weight? Is Paul Blart a perfect Todd Solondz character? And is there anything more dated in this film than all the Segway comedy? Maybe the playing of Rock Band? PLUS: Much praise for the underrated teen comedy, Angus!

Paul Blart: Mall Cop stars Kevin James, Keir O’Donnell, Jayma Mays, Raini Rodriguez, Shirley Knight, Steve Rannazzisi, Peter Garety, Bobby Cannavale, and Adam Ferrara as Sergeant Howard; directed by Steve Carr.

S14 Ep750: Alien: Resurrection16 Jul 202401:52:18
“This is the goopiest movie of all time!” - Steve

On this episode, the Summer Blockbuster Extravaganza heads to space as we chat about the better-than-Andrew-remembered sci-fi sequel, Alien: Resurrection! How fantastic is Sigourney in this one? Shouldn’t Brad Dourif’s evil scientist have tried to train just one Xenomorph at a time instead of a Baker’s Dozen from the jump? Shouldn’t we have seen the initial pirate heist of these hyper-sleep people? Why couldn’t Christie have just shaken that dead alien off his boot? How great is that basketball shot? And how fabulous are all these gloopy, soupy, alien puppets?! PLUS: The guys come up with another great sci-fi horror pitch for the new film, Werewolf Astronaut!

Alien: Resurrection stars Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Dominique Pinon, Ron Perlman, Gary Dourdan, Michael Wincott, Kim Flowers, J.E. Freeman, Brad Dourif, Raymond Cruz, Leland Orser, and Dan Hedaya as General Perez; directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
