For this month's episode we're deep in the mid 70s to explore the finest glam, country, reggae, funk, rock, folk, afrobeat, prog, pop, avant garde noise, and whatever category you'd chuck Sparks in to. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order.She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Tracey is particularly happy this month as we're discussing our favourite songs from her favourite ever year, 1991, including hip hop, shoegaze, thrash, pop, grunge, indie, & more. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them back to Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order.She also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. Back to our time travelling shenanigans and this month we're heading back to 1981 for what may be our favourite batch of songs yet. We've got an absolutely killer selection of post punk, pop, dub, metal, & prog tracks to chuck into the battle arena to fight for supremacy. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We're back to our time travel again this month, heading back to 2006 where we'll be exploring our favourite songs from the year Pluto had it's planetary status cruelly ripped from it's icy mountains. We discuss Pop, Folk, Post-Metal, Emo, & Whatever the hell Scott Walker was doing at that point. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Colin's wife Helen, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. This month we're all meeting up in the year 2000 to hang out in the Millenium dome, play Timesplitters on the PS2, & try to avoid getting sued by Metallica for downloading Master Of Puppets on Napster. We'll also be talking about wind instruments fashioned from root vegetables, uttery brilliant but thoroughly depressing movies, & we speculate whether Thom Yorke was turning up at every recording studio in the world in 2000. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. This month we travel back to 1988 where we've been accidentally downloading the first ever computer virus, playing Treasure Island Dizzy on the Spectrum, & watching Beetlejuice at the cinema. We've also been talking about ambient superstars buying castles, Colin's Orangutan like behaviour, & potentially life saving rap lyrics. We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order. Helen also joined us on the episode to read out the countdown, which we found out as we recorded so all reactions are genuine. Now, admittedly, in parts we're a little bit brutal to some of the songs in the list as we're three separate people with differing music tastes, but please remember that to be in this episode at all the songs have to have been in one of our top 10's of that year. 2020! It's been a strange one. We may not have had many gigs to go to but there's been some absolutely brilliant music helping us all through, so, as with every year, here's our annual best of the year episode! Over the next 2 hours (Longest episode yet!) we'll count down our favourite 30 songs of the year, plus we'll also discuss songs we've discovered this year that weren't released in 2020, and a few songs that narrowly missed out on being included. We've changed the voting system a little this year with the help of our friend Peter Latimer who is a maths genius. (you'll often find him stood near the mixing desk at Slowdive gigs inputting the setlist into an excel spreadsheet to predict which song will be the set closer)... We've each chosen our 10 favourite songs of the year and sent them over to Ian's wife Lydia, who put the playlists together and distributed them, so we were each given a playlist of the 20 songs from the other two hosts, along with our own 10. We then ranked the playlists in order of preference and sent them to Colin's wife Helen, who totalled up the points and worked out the order.
