| [PREVIEW] Watch Out for Fireballs 533: Silent Hill Townfall | 22 Oct 2026 | 00:05:00 | |
It might be hard to believe, but we found a Silent Hill game that Gary likes slightly more than Kaye. Townfall is another side game in the Silent Hill international tour, taking place on a Scottish island where something horrible has happened and our protagonist Simon must figure out how he’s involved. It’s first person, it relies on outmoded stealth elements, and has some extremely memorable imagery. And if the series continues in this direction, that would be… fine?
| Watch Out for Fireballs 532: Stone of Madness (Part 2) | 15 Oct 2026 | 00:51:37 | |
Second verse, nearly the same as the first! Stone of Madness’s second and notionally longer campaign, “The Gate of St. Jerome” starts out with a promise that it will be spookier and more intriguing than the prior chapter. Engravings left by an engineer gone mad talk of horrible thing beneath the abbey, but it turns out you’re doing more of the same things, and learning more of the same things you did last time. Highlighted Project: Wow Okay Cool and their album “If This is Where it Got Us, What Good Is It?”.
| Watch Out For Fireballs 531: Stone of Madness (Part 1) | 08 Oct 2026 | 01:54:02 | |
Things are not going well at a secluded monastery in the Pyranees mountains of Spain. The Inquisitor and the Mother Superior treat the mentally ill people in their care like prisoners, and they’re starting to disappear one by one. It’s up to Father Alfredo and a team of misfits to use their complementary skills to investigate what’s happening and bring it to a stop. The result is a board game-like real time stealth and strategy game that runs out of tricks well before either of its campaigns finish. This episode covers the generalities, Prologue, and the “Corrupt Hand of the Church” campaign.
| Watch Out For Fireballs 530: Cultic | 01 Oct 2026 | 01:17:27 | |
Cultic is a boomer shooter unlike any that we’ve played, being equal parts Blood and Resident Evil 4. You play as the Detective, who woke up in a cult’s mass grave and must now go on a rampage to stop them. What results is one of the best games we’ve played this year. Highlight Project: The Woods at Blight’s Hollow
| Watch Out for Fireballs Dispatch: A Moment of Reflection | 24 Sep 2026 | 01:45:28 | |
As we answer your questions and read your responses about Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, The Saboteur, and Pacific Drive, we take some time and use our topic slot to reflect on the recent changes we made and give some insight into what’s going on at the network right now. We’re doing a fundraiser to recoup some legal expenses! You can help by giving to our GoFundMe! We are also throwing a streaming party this Saturday, September 26, from 12:00pm to 8:00pm Pacific time to draw some attention to the fundraiser. Be sure to tune in at twitch.tv/duckfeedtv! | [PREVIEW] Watch Out for Fireballs! 529: Pacific Drive (Premium) | 17 Sep 2026 | 00:05:00
Do you love cars? Are you ready to be forced to love a very specific car? That’s what Pacific Drive is all about, you and your car against a bizarre zone of anomalous chaos. It’s not quite horror, and the survival mechanics aren’t everything you’d expect them to be, but this roguelike will challenge you to take care of your station wagon so it will take care of you. It’s just too bad that the story and tone are a shade too cartoony for the gravitas the developers were aiming for. This is a premium episode! To hear the full version, back us at patreon.com/duckfeedtv.
| Watch Out for Fireballs 528: The Saboteur | 10 Sep 2026 | 01:46:44 | |
Pandemic Studios really knew what they were doing, and it’s a real shame their style of destruction-based open world games didn’t become the norm. That’s how you’ll feel when you play the Saboteur, the studio’s swan song. You are Sean Devlin, an Irish racecar driver who joins the French Resistance during World War II to get revenge on the Nazis. You may only be aware of this game because of its black and white-to-color visual trick, but there’s so much more to recommend it.
| Duckfeed is Evolving | 10 Sep 2026 | 00:32:05 | |
Hey folks! This will be a longer post detailing some changes that are coming up for Duckfeed in the next few months. When we ask listeners what they like about the network, they'll often bring up our transparency. It's one of our main values, so that's why we will be providing the rationale for each announcement so you know why we're making the changes. There will be a TL;DR at the end for those who just want to see what's changing. Big TL;DR at the top: Nobody's prices are raising. Quite the contrary. If you're grandfathered you're still grandfathered, and you'll be getting more stuff. If you've paid attention this summer, you've noticed that we've been doing some new stuff... like actually promoting ourselves on social media. This is the result of conversations we're having about the future of the network, what's working, what isn't, and most of all how we can grow. We've taken information we gathered in the most recent surveys and making these changes to hopefully get bigger as a network. In order to grow, we are simplifying our Patreon, offering more, and changing what it means for shows and episodes to be premium or public. Additionally, we are removing self-imposed limitations on our most popular shows in order to plan more effectively and intentionally and ultimately make a better product. With all of that in mind, here we go: One paid membership tier at $7Splitting show offerings across multiple tiers sucks to communicate about! It's muddled. If you come to Duckfeed and want to give us money, we want it to be easy to understand what you're getting, and the most valuable thing we can offer is content. So everyone who wants premium content will back at the Duck tier at $7 monthly, or $77 per year, and you'll get everything. This includes everything that is currently premium, even things that are currently at the Eagle tier. We want people to hear Adaptation Decay and QuakStak! You'll also get anything we cook up for Duckfeed Presents, or limited run seasonal series like Future CIA Torture Songs. This will be in addition to a Free Tier which gets you access to our Discord community. There will be higher tiers that are strictly suggestions for people who want to support us more out of the kindness of their hearts. We will be leaving your pledges in place as they are, just changing what is available at the available tiers. If you are currently grandfathered at the $5 tier, you will still get the extra content. Fewer premium shows, more premium episodesOur most popular shows, the ones featuring Gary and Kaye hosting together, will all be moving to the same premium model that Watch Out for Fireballs! is on. That is, the shows will be public but one episode per month will be premium. Specifically, this change affects Abject Suffering, Real Lich Hours, Unfilmable, and Bonfireside Chat (when it comes back). Everything to Guppy, The Level, Adaptation Decay, and QuakStak are unchanged. It makes the most sense to us to spread the WOFF! model across the network to make things more uniform. And it works better with the aforementioned Patreon tier changes. We understand that it will be awkward for a public listener to have those gaps, but if they like the show we want them to patronize us... and we're sick of pretending we don't want them to! What this means for Real Lich Hours: The timeframe for Real Lich Hours episodes going (mostly) public is ASAP. What this means for Abject Suffering: One Abject Suffering episode per month will be premium, and this will be communicated. A Note on Bonfireside Chat and the Duskbloods: We do not know if Bonfireside Chat is coming back for the Duskbloods. The network test made it feel like more Nightreign and thus resistant to our treatment. There are changes coming to the full version that might make it more suitable. Keep an ear out. Content that was released as premium previously will remain premium unless we opt to make it public for promotional reasons. Unfilmable is going weeklyUnfilmable is consistently the most popular show on our Patreon that doesn't somehow relate to FromSoft. We're very proud of it, we love doing it, we want to do more of it, and we want more people to hear it. To that end, Unfilmable will be released weekly, with one episode per month being premium. This will necessitate some changes in format. Do you remember our episode on The Substance? A looser conversation rather than a play by play? More episodes will follow that format. Going weekly also opens the door for more easy coverage of a TV show (multi-part coverage goes down easier weekly, we find). We're also going to broaden the scope of what's covered. We've already gone from strictly horror to the Feel-Bad Rainbow, with some real genre bends (American Movie, Gremlins 2). We're going to have genre bends more often now, as a treat. Unfilmable will be the steady parade of bleakness and terror you love, but sometimes we might talk about, I dunno, Total Recall or Wayne's World or something. Think Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. We gotta talk about Large Marge somehow. Unfilmable will be a place for media talk that doesn't fit Adaptation Decay. With this, we're retiring our "TV slot" with the end of Best Quality Vacuum. Promised coverage of Review will happen under the Unfilmable banner (We would argue it's extremely bleak TV), at a non Episode by Episode pace. This is a hard decision! We like talking about TV, but the truth is it's not a very popular show on our network, and covering a single TV show alienates a big group of our audience who has no interest in that show. By rolling such coverage into Unfilmable, we'll be able to talk about stuff we love but not commit to an entire show that comparatively few people will listen to. Timeframe: Unfilmable will go weekly once Best Quality Vacuum ends. However, it will become a public show earlier than that, basically as soon as possible. Also on the Unfilmable tip, we are raising the price to $300 for a sponsorship in order to accommodate demand. This comes with a widened scope for what we'll accept as a sponsorship. Sponsoring works like The Terror is no longer untenable. Watch Out for Fireballs! is changing more subtlyThe changes we're making to Watch Out for Fireballs! are more procedural on our end, but we believe they will result in a better show. Specifically we will be changing sponsored episodes and relaxing about game length in order to do more two-parters. Our goal is to be able to plan further in advance and to do so more intentionally. We are going to be limiting sponsorships to 3 per quarter, at $450 apiece. This change comes with increased scope for what your sponsorship money will get you. This doesn't mean we'll do everything, but we will be more open to longer games under this new schema. We will be opening up each quarter's sponsorship sales a few months in advance, for planning purposes. That means when you are reading this, Q1 2027 sponsorships are open, and when they're sold they're sold. We are also divorcing specific types of games from specific seasons. Having a Summer JRPG and a Winter WRPG were both comforting rhythms for us, but they would be an awkward fit for how we want to plan out a better variety of long and short games of different genres and profiles each quarter. Premium WOFF! episodes aren't going anywhere but occasionally the month's premium will be Part 2 of longer coverage, which is something we've avoided doing in the past. Why are we doing this? It's worth noting we're actually going to lose money by reducing the number of sponsorships we take in a year, but we're doing it anyway because we want more flexibility. Right now, we get in a bind, being booked out 6-9 months with sponsorships, and trying to fit small games around large games. We also want to talk about more kinds of games, including, big games a lot of people have played. We love getting exposed to obscure indies through our audience, but I think in the last year or so we've lost the balance. WOFF! is our flagship program, and we want to make it the best show we can. That's basically it! This is a lot of changes, but we've thought long and hard about them in relation to the data from the surveys you answered. Our hope is to make the Patreon more attractive, simple, and comprehensive. We also want to take a firmer hand over our content schedule to cover a wider variety of games on our flagship show Watch Out for Fireballs!, and give you more volume and variety of media covered on Unfilmable. The timetable for when these changes will take place is currently up in the air (excepting the ones outlined firmly above), but expect the bulk to hit around the beginning of 2027. If you have any questions, please ask them. There are always little things we haven't thought of, but we will do our best to answer whatever you ask. Because like we said, we want to be as transparent as possible. With love,

| Watch Out for Fireballs 527: Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel | 03 Sep 2026 | 01:34:32 | |
We’re running out of Fallout games to cover! Which means we’re scraping the bottom of the barrel to bring you a close look at the memory-holed PS2 and XBox entry into the series: Brotherhood of Steel. It’s a Dark Alliance-like that demonstrates that one of those can actually be a lot worse than the others, and it’s all made worse by how poorly it handles the Fallout setting. | Watch Out for Fireballs 525: Ogre Battle 64 (Part 2) | 13 Aug 2026 | 01:44:18
This week we continue our discussion of Ogre Battle 64, a sprawling and mysterious strategy game that eventually sheds the need for using strategy all together. It’s also a story of revolution that stops being about a revolution partway through. This leaves us in the frustrating position of wanting to like it more than we actually do. Thanks again Will for executive producing this! Our highlighted project for this week is the creator Mech Amalia, who reviews Gunpla and plays games on her YouTube channel and Instagram.
| Watch Out For Fireballs 524: Ogre Battles 64 (Part 1) | 06 Aug 2026 | 02:16:23 | |
Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber was a big game that many, including us, missed out on. It’s a followup to a cult classic RTS for the SNES, and it follows Magnus Gallant, a young noble who ends up leading a revolution against his own kingdom. This is a strange game mostly known for its obscure mechanics, but it’s very much in the vein of Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre in its story and presentation. This episode covers the game’s generalities, the prologue, and the first chapter. Big thanks to Will for executive producing this episode!

| [PREVIEW] Watch Out For Fireballs 523: Super Mario Bros. Wonder | 23 Jul 2026 | 00:05:00 | |
But what if Mario were... surreal? Going back to the original design intentions of the Super Mario Bros., Nintendo delivers a game where Mario gets... a little weird. The only downside is that these little shits talk too much.
| Watch Out For Fireballs 522: Parodius | 16 Jul 2026 | 01:13:08 | |
Specifically, Parodius! From Myth to Laughter. We've been itching to revisit the Schmup genre and this seemed like a perfect fit. Originally a parody of Gradius, it really just proves that Schmups are really easy to just think about the game in terms of a wireframe.
| Watch Out For Fireballs 521: Grunn | 09 Jul 2026 | 01:05:03 | |
If it looks like a horror game and quacks like a horror game, it's probably a horror game. Disguising itself (slightly) as a cozy simulator, Grunn is a gardening time loop game about solving micro mysteries in the Dutch countryside. It's neat! It's snack!

| Duckfeed State of the Union 2026 | 16 Jan 2026 | 00:20:09 | |
This information is presented as both a written post, and as a short podcast episode where we talk about our reasoning. IntroductionHello Patrons and well-wishers: we’re here to report that the Duckfeed state of the union is strong, and we have some announcements about changes. Normally we do these in December, but Circumstances conspired to delay things a bit. Something we really love about this job is that we have the freedom to periodically reevaluate how we do things, and make changes to keep our work interesting and hopefully improve the quality of our output. And we’re fortunate enough that you all are patient and understanding as we do this. So let’s dip into the changes we’re implementing. These will take effect starting February 1, 2026. New Tier PricingAsking for money is hard, and asking for more money is harder. We’ve kept our tiers priced roughly the same since 2014, no matter how much we packed into them. After 12 years, we’re making our first change to this. But to be clear: if you’re backing us right now, nothing will change for you. With that said, this is the new pricing scheme going forward, for new members:
These changes track roughly with inflation since April of 2014, and we have no intentions of touching this again for a long time. Nothing is being taken out of the existing tiers, and nothing that is currently public is moving to premium. To clarify again: Patrons who are current as of when the pricing takes effect (starting February 1, 2026) will be grandparented in at their old price for as long as they maintain their membership. We want to do this to honor anyone who’s supported us so far. Unfortunately we can’t give you the old pricing if you leave and come back, since that’s not a capability Patreon has. More UnfilmableTo offset the above and sweeten the pot, we are adding one extra episode of Unfilmable per month, because Unfilmable is popular and we like doing it. One episode each month will remain a Gary pick or a Kaye pick, and we are opening Unfilmable up to Executive Producers. Because slots are limited, we are piloting the Executive Producer price at $200. The procedure for this will be similar to picking a game for WOFF! Because watching movies is different than playing and covering whole games, we will most likely go with your first choice. The only limitations are that the request must be a movie (not a TV show, and especially not a full season of a show), and that it not be hateful (we call this the Custer’s Revenge Clause). This kind of thing is in the eye of the beholder, but if we veto your choices you will get a full refund. StreamingNow that Kaye will be in the same time zone and locality as Gary, we are going to pilot doing more streaming, either on Twitch or here on Patreon Live. More details to come. Something that may happen is the VODs for certain streams may be hosted here for Patrons only. DiscordStarting in February we will be shifting our community chat from Slack to Discord. We’ve deliberated over this for a while, and it feels like it’s time to bring our community chat in line with 99% of other communities and use a service that’s not specifically built for workspaces. Community access will remain gated to patrons. The transition to Discord will take place over the course of February, with the Slack closing down at the end of the month. We maintain some reservations about Discord’s direction as a company and will do everything we can to limit annoying features in our server, and will keep an eye out for them deciding that everyone’s childhood memories belong to their AI or something. (If you notice that you were kicked from the old Duckfeed Discord we used for multiplayer game chat, it's because it's under construction and you can re-join later on). Executive Producer ChangesIn addition to changing the prices of our tiers, we are going to make some modest changes to how WOFF! and Abject Suffering executive production slots and demands work. The price to Executive Produce a Watch Out for Fireballs! episode will be rising from $300 to $350. We are moving Abject Suffering picks to the store where anyone can buy a demand for $50, though $25 backers will continue to get a demand thrown in for their pledge (you will get a coupon). Because of the way that the store works, it will continue to be one demand per year. Selling Episodes and CollectionsWe are going to begin offering individual episodes and collections for sale on the Patreon store, in addition to being available to monthly backers. This is something people have requested. For example, some people just want specific seasons of Bonfireside Chat. Others want to retain access to episodes after they drop their support. To clarify, monthly memberships are still the primary way to get our content. No back catalog material will be gated behind an additional purchase. The only thing I could think would end up being listed that way was if we decided to do another charity bundle.
These listings will be going up shortly. Annual MembershipsPatreon offers the capability to offer annual memberships, and we’re opening those up. If you want to sign up for a year of Duckfeed all at once, you can get a 10% discount. Here are instructions on how to get one of those. Community GiftingPatreon recently added the capability for fans to gift memberships to other fans. We just want to let you know about this, since it’s hard to discover on the site. SubredditWe would like to start a community subreddit, but we don’t want to add moderating it to our workload. We also don’t really know how to do this. If you have expertise in this area, please contact us. ConclusionThat’s the extent of what we have planned, and we hope you’re as excited about the additional Unfilmable episode, and the addition of streams to our schedule. Kaye being in Portland is going to open up some fun opportunities and we’re really excited for the future. If you have questions about these changes, please ask them in the comments and we will answer them as best we can. Thank you so much for your ongoing support!

The Legend of Zelda on the Nintendo Entertainment System is one of the most iconic games ever made. While not every trick it used holds up today's standards, the number of innovative techniques they used to make an adventure feel huge informs game design to this very day. | [PREVIEW] Watch Out for Fireballs! Premium: The Best and Worst 7/10 Games (feat. Retronauts) | 19 Dec 2025 | 00:05:00
To wrap up the year, December's premium episode of WOFF! is the live panel we did at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo back in October. Bob Mackey and Jeremy Parish of the Retronauts joined us to talk about the best and worst 7/10 games. One score means a lot of different things, and we try to get to the bottom of what's 7/10 (derogatory) and 7/10 (laudatory). Games we discuss: Shadowrun (SNES). Ghostbusters (2009). Yakuza: Dead Souls. Dragon Quest VII. Clash at Demonhead. The Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Ninja Five-O. State of Decay. Haunting Ground.

| Watch Out For Fireballs 498: Wasteland 3 (Part 1) | 04 Dec 2025 | 01:43:29 | |
Before there was Fallout, there was Wasteland. And after there was Fallout, there was Wasteland. In this combat heavy tactical RPG, we see many of the seeds that blossomed into the flowers of Fallout, while still having a distinct flavor all their own. This game is goofy, cynical, and generally wants you to have a bad time while you laugh.

| [PREVIEW] Watch Out For Fireballs 497: Hitman: Blood Money (Premium) | 20 Nov 2025 | 00:30:17 | |
We love Hitman so much, we had to see where our little, bald, perfect clone with a barcode came from. The levels are smaller, but a lot of the core concepts of what makes Hitman good are still here in the DNA of the series in a more rudimentary form.
