Briogeo’s Brand Approach To Collaborating With Stylists - With Nancy Twine13 May 202400:55:46

Sponsored by Schedulicity

Sponsored by GLO

Interview with Nancy Twine

Nancy Twine has carved her own unique path in the business world. Pivoting from her first career as a VP at Goldman Sachs, she sought a different life filled with inspiration and purpose. Tapping into her mother's roots in natural product formulation, Nancy created Briogeo — the clean, high-performance hair care line that pioneered the "skinification" of hair movement. At the age of 29, Nancy became the then-youngest Black woman to launch a product line at Sephora, and the brand has gone on to win dozens of awards for innovation, including one of the highest number of Allure Beauty Awards in the prestige hair care space.

In 2022, less than 10 years after launch, Nancy sold Briogeo to The Wella Company. Nancy is one of the few Black CEOs and businesswomen who have successfully launched & scaled a global business, raised over $20M of Private Equity Funding, and who has sold her company in a strategic M&A process – all before the age of 40.

While Nancy continues in her role as Founder & CEO of Briogeo globally, she is now evolving once again, harnessing the power of her business expertise and life experience to enrich the lives of her community. By providing meaningful connections to information, tools and resources on NancyTwine.com and through her upcoming podcast, Makers Mindset, Nancy is helping to open up a world of possibilities for others—and to empower everyone to create a life well lived.

Today, Nancy is an active investor in multiple startups across the Beauty, Wellness, Food & Beverage, Tech, and Real Estate industries. She is also considered a leading expert in entrepreneurship, growth mindset, and female leadership and has been sought out for profiles and opinion from publications such as Inc., Forbes, WWD, NPR, Allure and Vogue. Nancy is the recipient of the Goldman Sachs Builders + Innovators Award, Entrepreneur’s 100 Women of Impact, Inc’s Female Founders 100, Essence Magazine Power 40, Black Enterprise 40 Under 40, and Gold Stevie Awards for Best Female Solo Entrepreneur. Nancy currently serves on the board of Cosmetic Executive Women and the philanthropic organization, Room to Grow.

How A Stylist Champions Individuality On Social Media With Fede Damiani11 Mar 202401:05:59

Interview with Fede Damiani

Fede Damiani is a 25-year-old, Italian Bleach & vivids specialist.

He/they have been in the industry for 10 years and moved to UK in 2019 intending to work at Not AnotherSalon. After they achieved it and stayed there for two years, Fede decided to go freelance and open up to new clients and the education business.

During the last few years, Fede also became an official Pulpriot artist and Pulpriot UK educator, blonde solutions artist, B3 sponsored, and was featured in magazines like Creative Head and Hairdresser Journal.

In January 2024, Fede opened a small new studio, becoming a salon owner. Their biggest dream is to incorporate a philosophy of "Freedom of Expression" in the global hair industry. Help other businesses to become more inclusive, not only with Gender neutral price lists and working easily with any type of hair ... but also with more accessibility for disabilities (hidden ones and not).

Mental health, breaking stigmas and stereotypes are their favorite parts of being an Educator, creating “FHAIRY EDUCATION”. In 2023, Fede also won the " L'Oréal Colour Trophy- Moving Image Award" competition, becoming the first freelance stylist to win that category.

Fede also loves the business and social media side of this industry, and since September has been able to reach a total of 1.3M accounts through their social media accounts with vivid and pastel colors and, probably, that incredible Italian/UK accent.

Intro Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thedadbodveteran/video/7308110768635907370

Interview with Autumn Yarbrough

Autumn Yarbrough didn’t want to go bald like the three generations of women before Her. So, she created a NU Standard to ensure no woman ever does.

NU Standard is a revolutionary company with a hair wellness approach toward textured hair. The products aren’t just for black women because it’s a black-owned company, NU Standard’s products are designed to help all women with textured hair. It’s about setting a NU Standard in the haircare industry and helping women overcome their hair challenges and achieve their hair goals

But it’s not just about hair wellness. Autumn caters to busy women on the go whether they work from home, corporate America or spend the day as CEO of their families. Bottom line: She understands some women have a few minutes not hours to get their hair just right, so they feel confident while avoiding what seems inevitable: hair damage and hair loss. Autumn wanted to create products that made it easy to care for textured hair without damaging or losing it. She was determined to develop a solution for her Busy Queens, especially those with textured hair, to prevent hair loss.

Autumn’s blessing is that the haircare industry has been part of her life since birth. After all, her grandfather, Comer Cottrell Jr., created a haircare company in the late 60s that became a global company. Her mom created successful brands that still thrive and her father has helped restructure several haircare companies and some have grown into overnight successes. Autumn grew up in the business. She worked on the assembly line as an eight-year-old and dabbled in various departments until she went to college.

After graduating from USC, Autumn found success in the world of finance and insurance. But the stress from running her company was starting to affect her hair. The more she thought about it, the more Autumn knew she needed to follow her passion and help those women with textured hair keep it healthy and strong. She initially struggled with changing her career midlife but she wanted to do something that would really affect people’s lives.

To build her company, Autumn emphasized one of her grandfather’s tenets of business:

Build a team of people who are smarter than you to make the dream come true. She set her ego aside and asked the best in the industry for help to build a NU Standard.

Welcome to PRINTED: Outloud

Your weekly listen to the stories redefining beauty, straight from the pages of salon‑pro‑first magazine.

If you already get PRINTED delivered, you know the gist - this is news so good, we had to print it. But you’re busy, so whether you’re behind the chair, behind the scenes, or just on the go, this is your chance to catch up on the conversations and trends making waves in our community, in audio form.

Our very first issue, launches a new era of beauty storytelling: celebrating the pros, founders, and creators who refuse to follow the rules. With the theme “They Told Me Not To,” this inaugural edition highlights the visionaries who’ve gone against the grain to build something extraordinary.

Through it all, the issue asks one big, question: What happens when beauty professionals stop asking for permission?

Good Dye Young: Working To Change The Narrative of Bright Colored Hair27 Nov 202301:19:41

Sponsored by OLAPLEX®

Interview with Brian O’Connor

Co-owner of Fruits Hair Lab, Brian O’Connor is a staple in the styling scene in the South’s entertainment capitol. With 21 years of cosmetology experience, his expertise in color, cutting, and styling is how Fruits came to fruition. While just out of his teens, Brian began creating looks on Paramore’s lead singer, Hayley Williams, and has continued ever since. In a few short years, Brian’s resume would include not only Paramore, but artists like Fall Out Boy, Josh Dunn, Sheryl Crow, Jewel, Lady A, and even former Vice President Al Gore! His artistry has been recognized by multiple credible publications including Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Allure, and Bustle.

In 2016, Brian co-founded Good Dye Young, a vegan & cruelty-free vivid hair dye company. With Brian as Chief Innovation Officer, Good Dye Young has grown into an industry-leading multi-million dollar company that is breaking the boundaries of what inclusion, community, and vivid hair color mean.

Even while running multiple businesses, Brian continues to stay passionate about working behind the chair. Through his versatile experience, he adopted an impressive skill set that incorporates various techniques to craft a style to fit each individual's needs. He is committed to ensuring that every client leaves feeling more confident than when they walked in.
