Some of these will seem obvious, some not as obvious, but I can tell you I’ve personally seen multiple examples of ALL of them in the real world, and one of them is not just common, but it runs rampant in our industry. Today, I’m going to break down these Seven Deadly Sins, explain to you why they are gigantic no-nos written across the sky in red neon, and what the consequences are for committing them are. This is my vision for what the voice over business should be. I have a vision for voice over and why this channel exits. Many think that there are voice over gate keepers or wonder is voice over too competitive. Is voice over rigged? In this video, I’ll lay out in my view what voice over should be, what the voice over business ought to be, why voice over is important, a vision for voice over, why this channel exists, why i started this channel, and why I'm a professional voice actor. I believe that voiceover should be a meritocracy. I believe that if you invest time and money and effort into training, if you work on your skills every day, if you're driven and you're passionate and you're talented, then you should be able to make a comfortable living in this business as I have. I believe that anybody can learn the basics of marketing and that it's crucial to have a system and a plan and a process and tools to grow relationships at-scale that lead to consistent booking revenue and income. Welcome to How NOT To Use Linkedin To Find Voice Over Work. When it comes to LinkedIn for voice artists, how not to use LinkedIn is important. These are the best LinkedIn tips for voice over when it comes to how to find voice acting clients. Now you've got a robust list of targeted leads. Congratulations! Great job. And, yes, you do have to reach out to them. And this is where most voice actors will take the next seemingly logical step and reach out to those folks with a connection request manually and painstakingly, one by one, on LinkedIn. That's where you're doing it wrong. You could reach out to connect with leads on LinkedIn. And yes, there is some usefulness in that. But not everyone is active on LinkedIn. At the time of this video, LinkedIn user statistics show 722 million active users, but only 310 million, or about 43% use the platform even on a monthly basis. And only 40% of those, about 124 million people worldwide use the platform on a daily basis. Only about one in six people on average are active daily LinkedIn users. And finally, you can only request up to 100 connections per week. Up until 2021, it was 100 per day, now it's 100 per week. So while connecting on LinkedIn does provide a touchpoint, it's not a timely and reliable way to consistently get in front of likely decision-makers who will hire voice actors. We’ll also show you some voice over website best practices you can use when creating your own voice over website, so that you avoid these website design mistakes. As solopreneurs, voice actors are often put in a no-win position, faced with having to oversee their website design, or do it themselves, and yet most have no experience or expertise in designing a website. The easy answer is to turn the task over to a reputable website designer. Most often, though, any given website designer/developer, no matter how accomplished, will not understand the voice-over business. Having a website that looks great doesn’t mean that it’s optimized for your business and will convert visitors to clients. The following post appeared December 21st, 2023 on the VOcation Facebook Group: “Hey everyone. I didn’t want to have to make this post, but I’m trying to look out for others. There is a demo producer and coach who specializes in Children’s Media who has taken money from actors promising to make demos, and then just never made the demos. Some of these demos came in a “2 for 1 package” where one demo was made and the other wasn’t. Other demos have just never been made. This person has also hired adult and child actors for jobs, which they completed, and never paid them. I really don’t want to call them out by name, but if you ask around, this has become prevalent enough that people likely know who I’m referring to. I hope this keeps some people from giving their time and/or money and getting nothing in return.” Soon after, that demo producer and coach was identified by multiple people on the VOcation Facebook Group as Lisa Biggs, and the original poster has come forward and identified herself as Carin Gilfry. Earlier, in November of 2023, a group of voice actors sent an anonymous letter to the National Association of Voice Actors detailing their allegations, which in some cases, date back possibly as far as a decade. As many as 100 people now allege that Biggs has violated agreements she made with them. Three of the alleged victims have courageously stepped forward to tell their stories.
