| SEGA May Do Their Own Gaming Subscription Service, Nintendo's 2024 in Review # 427 | 24 Dec 2024 | 01:27:50 | |
Welcome to our last regular episode of 2024, as we are so close to another year ending and 2025 beginning. Speaking of that, Nintendo looks to start 2025 on an amazing high note by finally announcing the long-awaited Switch successor. However, before we get to that, Sean and Marc go through Nintendo's 2024 and what is there to make of what feels like a whole year of waiting for information on hardware. What were the stand out games? Are any of them up for Game of the Year? And what are the latest rumors about the Switch 2? Also, SEGA had one heck of a 2024 themselves and they capped it off with a very successful Sonic 3 Movie as well. But what about the future? Could a SEGA subscription service be on the cards? Rumors indicate it could very well be in the plans. Should it be something akin to Xbox Game Pass? Or more like PlayStation Plus? Or maybe EA Play? Should this even happen at all? Plus, some news regarding games shown at the Game Awards, Marc has played more Infinity Nikki, Xbox won't have any more exclusives, Sony buys more of Kadokawa, and more! | The Game Awards 2024 Review | 13 Dec 2024 | 00:57:28
The Game Awards celebrated its 10th anniversary this year and delivered some huge surprise announcements, awards, celebrities, and more. Last year had quite a bit of controversy, did the 2024 version rectify this? And which games are Sean, Randy and Marc excited about? There's plenty to discuss and review from the event, including whether this is the best edition of the Game Awards. Sean certainly thinks so, as this version of the show could be the magnum opus of what Geoff Keighley wants this gaming celebration to be. | More Trouble At Ubisoft, Fantasian & Infinity Nikki Impressions # 426 | 11 Dec 2024 | 01:24:20
In what has been a tumultuous year for Ubisoft already, the company delivered more bad news over the last week as not only are they sunsetting their live-service title XDefiant, a game that has been long-rumored to be in trouble on its own, but Ubisoft finally delivered the finishing blow and also issued several layoffs at studios involved in making the game as well. With more rumors swirling about Tencent and the Guillemot family talking about a buyout it feels like Ubisoft is in some real danger of having even further repercussions come down the line. Is there a way to stop this for Ubisoft? Does it have to involve a big buyout? Shawn Layden was once again interviewed about the state of gaming, this time focusing on game size and its major cost. Will we see shorter games in the coming years? Or is there something else that we will see as the new trend in gaming? Sean has been playing Fantasian and a little bit of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, while Marc has played Infinity Nikki and has beaten Alan Wake 2. Plus, Foamstars' seasonal content ends early next year, Illfonic Studios issues layoffs, we look at 2024 for Xbox, and much more! | PlayStation Making Some Big Moves for 2025 and Beyond # 425 | 03 Dec 2024 | 01:33:03
Although we didn't intentionally mean to take a week off, things fell in a way that forced us to, but at least it was only one week. At this time, Sony has made a few announcements and moves that may make for an interesting 2025 and probably beyond. Sean and Marc have quite a bit to talk about from the last few weeks. Sony has sent a letter of intent to Kadokawa Corporation for possible acquisition. If the acquisition actually happens, Sony would become the majority owner of the company and, by extension, a majority owner of From Software, Spike Chunsoft, Acquire on the video game side, several anime, manga, and light novel production houses, and a whole bunch of other stuff as well. Will this actually happen? Will From Software become the next PlayStation Studio? Or is this more of a Bungie situation? There are also reports via Bloomberg about Sony developing their own native handheld that could potentially play PS5 games. Effectively countering Microsoft's Phil Spencer announcement from the week before, but also equaling the context that its "years away." Will we actually see this handheld? What makes it different than having a separate lower res SKU like Xbox Series S? And will it play PS6 games? Plus, the duo also look back at PlayStation's 2024, the PlayStation 30th anniversary edition to the PS5, Shuhei Yoshida Leaving PlayStation, Could a Final Fantasy VI HD-2D Remake happen? Control 2 is going to be an action RPG, and more! | Should DLC Be Up For Game of the Year? Phil Spencer's Big Xbox Interview # 424 | 19 Nov 2024 | 01:30:59
Earlier today Geoff Keighley announced the nominees for the various Game Awards 2024 categories including Game of the Year. Sean and Marc discuss the nominees for several of the awards, who they think could win, and also bring up the biggest controversy which is the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC being included in the nominations for not only several awards categories but also GOTY as well. A special guest may even join in the discussion too. Also, Phil Spencer had a lengthy interview with Bloomberg in which he discussed several topics, including an Xbox handheld that is a few years off, the no-red-line policy regarding Xbox games going to other platforms, his dislike of predatory expansions, and more. Plus, Sean's been playing the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, announcements from the Warcraft 30th anniversary stream, the Splinter Cell movie is canceled, GOG's game preservation program and more! | Is the Era of Huge Games Ending? WB Games Narrows Its Focus # 423 | 12 Nov 2024 | 01:24:01
In an interview with Famitsu, Toshihiro Nagoshi, a former SEGA director who was pivotal at RGG studio, which works on the Like a Dragon games, says that the "era of game size" being pivotal to a game is coming to an end. Although it doesn't seem to be the case with the amount of large-size games still releasing in 2024, but could this be true in the near future? Could the size of a game's world finally not matter? Also, thanks to recent live-service failures such as Suicide Squad and now Multiversus it seems as though Warner Bros Games focus will come solely from four core franchises. Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game of Thrones. Could this narrowing of its focus actually help improve things for the publisher? Or does it have the chance of going the opposite way and just watering down all of them instead? What does this mean for some other somewhat successful games from WB in the past? Plus, Nintendo finally confirms the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch 1, Sony President Hiroki Totoki states PS5 Pro's price has not effected its sales, Mass Effect TV show is in development, and more! | Sony Officially Kills Concord And Closes Firewalk Studio # 422 | 05 Nov 2024 | 01:28:34
Unfortunately, this week is the culmination of a previous problem for Sony, as the company officially decided to put the final nail in Concord's coffin and subsequently close down the studio that made the game, Firewalk Studios, along with mobile game developer Neon Koi. Sean and Marc discuss who should share the bulk of the blame if it means Sony needs to abandon the live service push entirely. Is there a franchise that lends itself to mobile in Sony's catalog? Also, Sean's been playing the Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster after never playing the series at all. Is this finally what hooks Sean into joining Aloy on her quest for the Nora? Sean also tried out the Pokemon TCG app. Is this gonna get Sean into collecting all the cards? Marc also finished Metaphor ReFantazio is it his Game of the Year so far? Plus, Call of Duty Black Ops 6 does big numbers in sales, and Xbox Game Pass, Xenoblade Chronicles X has finally been announced for Nintendo Switch, Path of Exile 2 is delayed until December, and would a major return of AA Games save the game industry? | Call of Duty Black Ops 6, Like a Dragon Yakuza Amazon Show # 421 | 29 Oct 2024 | 01:26:12
The biggest release of the year as far as industry sales is here in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and it also makes its debut on Xbox Game Pass as well. As a result, Sean has played a fair portion of the campaign and he has impressions of it so far. He's also been playing Shadows of the Damned: Hella Remastered which he can now speak about and guess what? It's just as good as the original just now looking better. Marc is also almost done with Metaphor ReFantazio as well. The duo also discuss their thoughts on the first three episodes of the Like A Dragon Yakuza Amazon series, does it do the first game justice so far? Are they fans of where it deviates? And what they do hope is still to come in the final three episodes of the first season? Plus, The Prince of Persia: Lost Crown is disbanded, and some of its members are working on a Rayman Remake headed up by series creator Michel Ancel. The U.S. Copyright office has denied that researchers should be given remote access to games through libraries, Netflix cancels its AAA game, should Killzone make a comeback? And much more! | Does Gaming Have a Remake Problem? Neva Impressions # 420 | 22 Oct 2024 | 01:23:33
The bombardment of game releases continues, and it does not seem to be going to let up anytime soon. Although there are plenty of new games on the horizon, the glut of remakes and remasters seems to have become a larger piece of the gaming pie in recent years. Does gaming have a remake/remaster problem? Or is this a symptom of the greater issue with so much uncertainty in the industry? Where do Sean and Marc stand on the number of remakes/remasters coming down the pike? Is there a preference for how they do them? Sean's been playing the latest release from Nomada studio, Neva, the development team behind the indie hit Gris. Does it deserve the same praise as their previous title? Could it perhaps be even better? Marc's been hammering away at more Metaphor ReFantazio and Diablo IV as well. Plus, our reactions to the Xbox Partner Preview, has Bloober Team finally turned the corner after Silent Hill 2 Remake? God of War Amazon show essentially starts all over, a mystery Nintendo playtest, and more! | A New Dawn Comes For Halo # 418 | 08 Oct 2024 | 01:13:19
Late night on Sunday during the Halo World Championships a surprise video debuted showcasing a project from 343 Industries that showcases what Halo could look like on Unreal Engine 5 as they officially make the move away from the Slipspace Engine used in Halo Infinite. They also announced multiple projects are in the works and that 343 is now called Halo Studios. Sean and Marc discuss all of this, does this give them hope for the future of Halo? And can Halo regain its flagship status as the premier franchise for Xbox? Also, Marc's been playing the Silent Hill 2 Remake that technically hasn't been fully released yet, but it certainly has a warm reception so far from other critics, but now Marc can give his thoughts on if it holds up compared to the original, do the changes make sense, and is it better? Plus, Metaphor ReFantazio's glorious critical reception, Why developers don't choose Xbox, Tecent and the Guillemot family looking into a buyout of Ubisoft, should Tekken get its own collection? Will the Horizon Online game be a big hit for Sony's live service ambitions? And More! * Apologies we didn't actually have time to talk about the Alien Isolation 2 sequel announcement * You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/wfdsxhRs15k Listen as a podcast and give us a review on these platforms... | Assassin's Creed Shadows Delayed # 417 | 01 Oct 2024 | 01:08:09
Tokyo Game Show has come and gone, and aside from Nintendo and another big publisher, pretty much everyone you would expect showed off at least something to be excited about. Whether it is the PlayStation State of Play, the Xbox streaming show, the Level-5 show, Capcom, Square-Enix, or more. Sean and Marc discuss some of their favorite games from many of these showcases with specific emphasis on the PlayStation and Xbox ones. The big publisher alluded to is Ubisoft who suddenly canceled their TGS live stream and then news came out that Assassin's Creed Shadows has been delayed out of 2024 entirely. Now released in February 2025, it seems as though shareholders are not happy with the company and are putting it into a review. Also, Star Wars Outlaws has not sold as well as expected, and other things that combined have led to this moment. But Ubisoft may be in trouble and does it all fall on how well Assassin's Creed Shadows is both received and sells? Sean and Marc also both completed the Metaphor ReFantazio demo and have major thoughts, the unfortunate news of Merge games shutting down, could Blizzard be once again working on another Starcraft Shooter, and more! | Best PlayStation 1 Games # 416 | 24 Sep 2024 | 02:04:02
Sony finally unveiled the big promotions for the 30th Anniversary of PlayStation this past week and does it ever look enticing. Sean and Marc celebrate a bit themselves talking about the reveal, if they may pick up any of the accessories, and also give out their Top 10 Best PlayStation 1 Games at the end of the episode. Before that though, there are more current PlayStation matters to attend to, as Sony announced that a State of Play is happening on Tuesday afternoon. There are already rumors swirling about what could be announced. The guys discuss a few of the known ones and make their predictions about what could be shown at the 40-minute showcase. Also, Sonic Team is doing a Sonic Central and Level-5 also announced their stream for the same day. Xbox is also doing a stream on Thursday too. Welcome to Tokyo Game Show 2024 week, as it should be packed full of news. Plus, some big news about Concord's cost, and what it may mean for Fairgames and Marathon ahead, Sean has now platinumed Astro Bot and has some impressions on Plucky Squire, Stellar Blade being sued by Stellarblade, Nintendo sues Palworld, but not for what you think, Nintendo Switch 2 leaks, and more! | Is the PS5 Pro Worth It? # 415 | 17 Sep 2024 | 01:01:03
Mark Cerny revealed the PS5 Pro last week and it was met with an immediate reaction of excitement and then an immediate shock at its retail price of $699 (USD) and even more in other regions globally. Not to mention, the extra cost of the vertical stand and the disk drive as well, adding an extra $110 to the price if these are things you absolutely need. What do Sean and Marc think of the announcement? The price? Is it worth it? Will they be getting one? Sean and Marc have both now completed Astro Bot so they have full thoughts on the game, Sony made an agreement with AMD already for the PlayStation 6, Annapurna Interactive lost its entire gaming team, and controversy for Xbox with removing of 41 games from Xbox Game Pass Standard and laying off 650 more employees, plus much more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX You can also watch this episode in video form on the W2M Network Youtube Channel, please give us a like, comment on the episode, and give the channel a subscribe and follow as well: https://youtube.com/live/0uVGpsMLmVw - If you prefer podcasts: Listen and give us a review on these platforms... - Apple: https://podcasts.apple.com/ag/podcast/video-games-2-the-max/id886092740 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/2wjd0u3xO7TdAm4gKRM44L Amazon: https://www.audible.com/pd/Video-Games-2-the-MAX-Podcast/B08JJPTZTW Podchaser: https://www.podchaser.com/podcasts/video-games-2-the-max-181386 Podcast Addict: https://podcastaddict.com/?podId=2465904 IHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/53-video-games-2-the-m-28438312/ - Check out other W2M Network Shows - Latest Otalku Cafe Episode (Anime): https://youtube.com/live/4xVi0JSENXU Radulich in Broadcasting's Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Review: https://youtube.com/live/h_6kAC8P024 Radulich in Broadcasting's The Crow (2024) Movie Review: https://youtube.com/live/Nmo2IJtumH8 - Follow on X (Twitter): - Sean on Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/W2MSean Marc on Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/HumanityPlague W2M Network on Twitter (X): https://twitter.com/w2mnetwork - Other Social Media - Follow us on Tiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@w2mnetwork2 Join us on Discord: https://discord.gg/aydMgvUN9d Follow us on Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/w2mnetwork Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/w2mnetwork/ Follow Us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/W2MNetwork
| Astrobot Impressions # 414 | 10 Sep 2024 | 00:47:42 | |
Must Play Games are the rare title you'd encourage anyone to check out. A game that defines its generation, or perhaps even goes past that and could be classified as genre-defining or maybe even an all-timer? These are the sort of labels that Astrobot has garnered over the last week and Sean's been playing it. So he of course has some impressions. Does it live up to that crazy level of hype? Does it deserve all the accolades? Should you go out and buy it for your PlayStation 5 right now? (the answer is yes!) Sony is all but set to reveal the PS5 Pro at a just-announced Tech presentation headed by Mark Cerny. Will all the rumors come true? Could the PS5 Pro actually be released without a disc drive too? Plus, Marc's been playing more Star Wars Outlaws and Star Trucker, the PlayStation 2 receives a big honor in Japan, Amazon's Secret Level will still air the Concord episode, Destiny 2 may change its expansion strategy, Ubisoft keeps going in the wrong direction, and more! | Visions of Mana Impressions, Sony Takes Concord Offline # 413 | 03 Sep 2024 | 01:27:36
The fall release season is officially upon us as starting from last week up to December there's a steady stream of major video games releasing for everyone to discuss, preview, review, or whatever. Sean and Marc kick off the fall season with impressions of Visions of Mana, the first brand-new game to hit consoles in the series in nearly two decades. How does it stack up? Should you pick it up if you are a Mana fan? Do you have to play the others to play this one? Marc's also been playing Star Wars Outlaws and he has some major thoughts. Also, the bad news cycle continues for Xbox as another game is being delayed due to issues with the company. Certification issues are causing problems for the developers of Enotria: The Last Song, and thus the Xbox version won't be released at launch until this is resolved. Meanwhile, according to various reports, Sony helped with funding the port of Black Myth Wukong for PlayStation 5, which may be why the Xbox version has been delayed. But at least it isn't all bad news, as Capcom did announce that the two recently announced Fighting Game Collections will be coming to Xbox after all. Plus, Sony announced it will take Concord Offline on September 6, details on the PS5 Pro design, Sony raised the price of PS5 in Japan leading many to worry about it bleeding into the PS5 Pro price structure. Our favorite announcements from the Nintendo Indie World and Partner Showcase, Gamestop opening up Retro Stores, could we ever get another Dino Crisis game, and more! | Best Gamescom 2024 Announcements # 412 | 27 Aug 2024 | 01:15:27
Gamescom 2024 is fully in the rearview mirror, but the announcements don't stop coming as Nintendo is set for an Indie World and Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase very soon. However, Sean and the returning Marc Morrison take a look back at what was announced at Gamescom Opening Night Live and if there's anything they are excited about from the show. Not to mention, also going through some of their favorite announcements from other events around Gamescom. The one more thing for Opening Night Live was actually an Xbox title, Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, being announced directly for PlayStation 5 in Spring 2025, before Indiana Jones even gets an opportunity to release on its original platform. Does this signify that we might as well expect everything is now coming over? Should Microsoft just kill the idea of making a next-gen box? Or is this about something greater than we just aren't seeing? Plus, Valve officially announces Deadlock, Black Myth Wukong sells out big and sells out PS5's in China, will there ever be an actual competitor to Steam? Hyperlight Breaker is delayed again and more! | Madden NFL 25 Impressions # 411 | 20 Aug 2024 | 01:09:16
With this episode hitting right before the looming Gamescom where there are sure to be a myriad of game announcements, release dates, and gameplay previews galore, there's been quite a bit of this happening in the week leading up to it. Sean and Randy discuss some of the games that are coming between September to November, and some games that have been delayed too. Not to mention, the release of one of the year's biggest titles, at least in yearly sales, Madden NFL 25 is out, Sean's played it, and he gives his impressions. Does it eclipse the much beloved EA College Football 25, does there being a perhaps better Football game on the market hurt the game at all? And is there anything new that makes it worthy of a purchase? Plus, more discussion on Supermarket Simulator, Randy's played ENDER LILIES: Quietus of the Knights, will Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 be one of the greatest games of all time? Should it switch to Unreal Engine 5? Does the new trailer for Silent Hill 2 Remake excite us? And sadly, more layoffs at Ubisoft. | Hi-Fi Rush Survives Being Shut Down # 410 | 13 Aug 2024 | 01:11:09
In an out-of-nowhere situation, Hi-Fi Rush Survives being shut down along with the studio that made the award-winning game, Tango Gameworks, as the publisher of PUBG and Callisto Protocol, Krafton Inc., has purchased the IP and studio from Microsoft. Essentially, it saves the studio and invites its former employees to return as well. Sean is joined for one more week by Randy Isbelle to discuss the surprising news, if a Hi-Fi Rush 2 without much of its dev team could still live up to what made the first game so beloved, and what else could come from this studio? Also, some more info on Destiny 2 and Marathon a week after the disappointing Bungie layoffs, Max Payne 1 & 2 Remasters and Control 2 are in good shape, should actors play the games if they are going to be in a film or TV series about them? Borderlands Movie is not good, Doom 1 & 2 Enchanced Editions, Our favorite announcements from the D23 2024 event and more! | What is Going on At Bungie? # 409 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:26:00
In our latest episode, what has been a rather sour week of gaming with major layoffs in two different gaming industry sectors, amid more disappointing figures for Xbox on the Console side, games not selling well enough and yeah... just less than wonderful news in general. Sean is joined by Randy Isbelle on this episode to discuss all of these things, and also actual video games too. Firstly, Bungie is in some major trouble as the company once again lays off employees, seems to be losing more autonomy, not to mention, suffering from internal mismanagement in its scope with projects. Where does the blame lie in this whole thing and how much of it is on Bungie CEO Pete Parsons who's come under fire for his own spending lavish habits. Should Sony be rueing this decision to buy Bungie? And can they turn this ship around at all? As reports suggest this was happening no matter how well Destiny 2's Final Shape expansion performed. Also, Game Informer closes after 33 years in being a lightning rod and wonderful beacon of gaming journalism. Effectively, being the last major gaming magazine in the United States. The guys share their memories of game informer, while also discussing Gamestop's role in this, and if there is still hope for gaming journalism as whole? Plus, Sean and Randy have been hooked on Supermarket Simulator, they also discuss EA College Football 25, if Microsoft is pretty much admitting that Xbox consoles are a luxury and that their main focus lies elsewhere, bad news for those waiting on Avowed, and more! | Best Xbox 360 Games # 408 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:14:16
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/29/2024 * The advent of digital gaming has been a great convenience and has opened up so many different avenues for gaming to thrive, especially when it comes to indie games. However, this also means that entire stores can be shut down once the console's lifecycle has ended. Such is the case for the Xbox 360 digital store, leaving around 220 games that are now no longer playable at all that are digital only. Not to mention, the games that will now shoot up in price because the only way to buy them is physically. With that in mind, Sean and Marc shout out their Top 15 Xbox 360 Games. Also, in more current gaming news, Microsoft is considering even more Xbox Game Pass tiers, including the dreaded ad-based tier. Is this a reality sooner than we think? And how far could they potentially take it? Plus, Sean has played more EA College Football 25, Concord won't have a battle pass, Capcom wants to make Megaman games more regularly, STALKER 2 has been delayed again, SAG-AFTRA Video Game voice actors strike, and more! | EA College Football 25 Impressions # 407 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:08:19
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/22/2024 * For 11 years, college football fans have been without a video game to call their own, and a court case effectively made it impossible to create a licensed CFB game. However, after three years of development, last week, EA College Football 25 became a reality, and with its release an outpour of hype and emotions swept over the nation as gamers and CFB fans could now go play as their favorite squads or alma maters yet again. Was the long wait worth it? Should you go out and buy it now? Or stick with what Madden's been offering over the years? Sean has his thoughts after spending almost a week now with the game. In more gaming-focused news, Microsoft and the FTC are perhaps in a battle again over the new edition to Xbox Game Pass and whether or not it degrades the service. Microsoft has responded to the FTC's claim. Who's right? Does the qualm really have any weight to it? And could the FTC actually win? Also, Bethesda Game Studios unionized, the Halo TV show is canceled, are big publishers not giving live service games a big enough window to succeed? Fallout TV Show gets a lot of Emmy Nominations and more! | Is Xbox Game Pass Still the Best Deal in Gaming? # 406 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:01:18
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/15/2024 * Has the day finally happened when Xbox Game Pass is no longer the best deal in gaming? Sean and Marc discuss Microsoft's big decision to not only raise up the price of their subscription service but also elected to remove Day 1 Games from their middle tier and make it exclusive to Game Pass Ultimate. Will gating away Day 1 games provide the FOMO purchase that Microsoft hopes it does? Is the prince increase a deserved one? Is this secretly about recouping money for Call of Duty? Should Console owners once again be worried that the end is nigh? Or is this much to do about nothing? Sean's also tried out Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess. Surprisingly, it may be the big hit in a week when many games are coming to the aforementioned Xbox service. Plus, Nintendo Switch now owns the record for the largest period without an officially announced console successor to replace it. Several games were in the works that now are not, including a Riot Games Smash Bros title and Crash Bandicoot 5 as well. At least we can all rejoice about a new Double Dragon game, right? | Most Wanted Video Game Adaptations # 405 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:12:05
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/08/2024 * It's National Video Game Day so why not discuss one of the biggest things happening to the medium and that's the surplus of adaptations. Sean and Marc rank their Top 5 Most Wanted Video Game Adaptations, which can include unreleased TV shows or movies that are known to be in development, or we can delve into our bag of hopefuls and put in some video games that have never seen the big or small screen outside of its native format. Marc's been playing more of Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance and also more of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC as well. Sean continues to have to focus on other things, but the video game drought will be ending very soon. Plus, more on adaptations as the Horizon Netflix show and Batman: Arkham Asylum are no longer moving forward. Paramount is now controlled by Skydance in an $8 Billion dollar deal. Ghost of Tsushima wins the month of May in the USA. Activision games could be coming more frequently to Xbox Game Pass beginning next month and more! | Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance Impressions # 404 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:00:25
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 07/01/2024 * It is yet another week in Video Games and the summer of Elden Ring continues as Marc has been playing more of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. However, this week he's also been playing the Director's Cut version of another game he enjoyed very much, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. In other news, Nintendo has a stocking plan to stop the potential of resellers and bots from buying up preorders of the Switch 2. Will this actually work? Is most of this just inevitable at this point with the way technology is? Or do they have a point that there is no longer an inhibitor to ensuring enough Switch 2's to go around? Also more of the usual gambit of stuff that's been the norm for gaming as more remakes have been announced or confirmed to be coming in the form of Dead Rising and an abundance of Assassin's Creed remakes. Not to mention, Ubisoft also added to the layoff tally as well. Xbox adds another device to its Cloud Gaming portfolio, One Piece Netflix Season 2 casting and release details, and more! | Best Games of 2024 So Far # 403 | 09 Aug 2024 | 01:06:07
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 06/24/2024 * It is finally here the long-awaited DLC for the smash hit Elden Ring called Shadow of the Erdtree has arrived for everyone to buy, download, and play. Marc has put some hours into it and he has some thoughts. Is this the new defacto game of the year? Is this perhaps the best DLC ever? Is the criticism of some of the bosses being too hard fair? Also, Nintendo had one that could quite possibly be its final Nintendo Direct of the Switch era, and it certainly delivered on many fronts. So many unexpected announcements with new games from its core franchises along with remasters, remakes, ports, and other games. Sean and Marc give some of the games they are most looking forward to, what the deal is with the Marvel Fighting game collection skipping Xbox, Nintendo once again not wanting to reveal the developer of the newest Mario & Luigi title and more! Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 06/17/2024 * Just ahead of a looming Nintendo Direct comes this week's edition of Video Games 2 the MAX where Sean and Marc discuss some older games that may finally be coming out like Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster, A Quiet Place game, and the Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition. Also, would Astrobot be just as awesome without all of the PlayStation nostalgia? Todd Howard says he's in no rush with Fallout 5 and Starfield is getting more Story DLC and possibly even annually. | Summer Games Showcase Extravaganza (SGF, Xbox, Ubisoft & More!) # 401 | 08 Aug 2024 | 01:05:32
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 06/10/2024 * Well, the Summer Game Fest weekend of showcases has officially come and gone. And they certainly were a mixed bag of goodness. Geoff Keighley kicked things off and delivered some interesting games, but wound up being much more indie-focused than it has been in years past. Did this wind up being a better show because of it? Or is it a big reflection on the industry itself this year? Also, do the encouraging changes give us hope for the Game Awards? Day of the Devs certainly had some really cool games and indie marvels to be excited about. Could Xbox may have possibly had its best showcase ever? What about Ubisoft? Did the guys watch any of the other showcases? We will get into all of that and more on this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX. Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 06/03/2024 * In the calm before the storm week, Sean and Marc discuss the PlayStation State of Play that occurred last Thursday and how it is a mixed bag once again. The big game we discussed in the previous episode was announced in the form of the PlayStation 5 Astro Bot title, but the rest had varying degrees of excitement. Also, PlayStation reiterated some of its strategies right before the State of Play in terms of PS4, Playstation games on PC, and Stellar Blade even topped the charts in April as well. | Call of Duty Coming to Xbox Game Pass, New Astrobot Game Coming to PS5 # 399 | 08 Aug 2024 | 00:57:46
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 05/29/2024 * Hopefully, everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. This wasn't the biggest news week but at least there are a few things to talk about including Microsoft finally confirming that Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be coming to Xbox Game Pass. Could this be the spark plug that helps liven up the service? Or is this a huge risk at possibly diminishing the cash cow in the first year of owning it? There are also rumors that a full PS5 Astrobot game will be announced soon and that it is not linked to the PSVR 2 like the first game was to the PlayStation VR. | Assassin's Creed Shadows, Big Moves at PlayStation! # 398 | 08 Aug 2024 | 01:11:48
Apologies, we've been having issues with our feed, so this is why this is just now being posted. * This was originally recorded on 05/17/2024 * This week is packed with news from all sorts of gaming channels. Let's see if Sean and Marc can even get close to touching most of it. PlayStation made some big moves at the CEO level and announced 59.3 Million PS5's sold. They also might have a surprise Horizon game and even get more Xbox games too. Details have surfaced on the next Assassin's Creed game officially called AC Shadows and it will feature two protagonists. Is Marc excited about this? Or is it not that big a deal with other games having eclipsed an AC Japan game. Plus, Square-Enix reveals its multiplatform strategy, actual word on FF 16 and FF 7 Rebirth sales, a Star Wars Total War game, a release window for Grand Theft Auto 6 and so much more!!! | Should We Have Any Trust in Xbox? Are Xbox Game Pass Days Numbered # 397 | 13 May 2024 | 01:26:05
This week in gaming showcased a bombshell announcement from one of the big pillars of the industry. Microsoft and Xbox announced the closure of three Bethesda studios and the consolidation of another one. Arkane Austin, Alpha Dog, Tango Gameworks, and Roundhouse are all gone. Although some of the employees will be put into other places or studios, many of these wonderful developers are now out of work. At what point do figureheads start to carry the blame for all of these bad decisions? How does anyone have any trust at all in Xbox moving forward? Should Xbox just rip off the Band-Aid and change lanes with Xbox Game Pass? Is this all beyond Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond, and Matt Booty? How much blame does the Activision-Blizzard-King purchase carry on this as well? Should other Xbox studios be on notice now too? Sean and Marc try to parse through all of this stuff and the terrible interview by Sarah Bond with Bloomberg as well. Thankfully, there are some positive things from this week, namely Nintendo dropping a lot of future news about the Switch 2, a June Nintendo Direct, game sales, and other things. Marc talks about games he's been playing and more! | More on Stellar Blade, Square-Enix's Massive Loss # 396 | 07 May 2024 | 00:52:47
This week saw a quieter period for gaming with everyone still catching up on the deluge of games released in the last few weeks and also some showcases highlighting upcoming games too. Marc has now been playing Stellar Blade and makes up for Sean not getting to make any progress in the game this week. With Marc having more familiarity with the Souls genre how does his opinion differ from Sean's last week? Is Stellar Blade a hit for him too? Also, Square-Enix announced a massive loss due to content abandonment losses totaling $141 Million. What does this mean for the company? And what could be the canceled projects? Should Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest fans be worried? Plus, 7-Eleven and Tetris, the ID @ Xbox showcase, shocking studio closures at Take-Two Interactive, and much more! | Stellar Blade, No Rest For the Wicked & No Blizzcon in 2024 # 395 | 30 Apr 2024 | 01:12:22
Gaming season has arrived at the end of April and the guys have some games to talk about on this episode of Video Games 2 the MAX. Sean's been playing Stellar Blade Another Crab's Treasure, and Tales of Kenzera Zau, and Marc's been playing No Rest For the Wicked. Quite a bit of Souls on this show. Also, Blizzard announced they will not have Blizzcon in 2024. Is this really a big deal? Or does it say something about not having really anything major to showcase? Plus, Embracer Group spits into three, Xbox financial figures cause a meltdown, some info on potential Switch 2 joycons, and more games are being delisted. | Final Fantasy XVI Rising Tide Impressions, Nintendo Indie World Faves # 394 | 23 Apr 2024 | 01:29:01
As we await the big game releases of next week, there are a few minor ones that have already made their way out to PC and Consoles. Sean's played Stop Motion narrative wonder Harold Halibut and the Final Fantasy XVI Rising Tide DLC. Does the Rising Tide serve as a seemingly fitting finale to FF16's content? Is Harold Halibut another indie darling that everyone should play? There's quite a bit of video game adjacent and actual video game news to discuss, with Nintendo providing a brand new Indie World and Sean has a few favorites to be excited about. The Witcher series gets a final Season 5, Sonic 3's Shadow has its voice actor, Mike Ybarra wonders if we should be able to tip AAA game developers, and are Final Fantasy VII Rebirth sales being overblown? Plus, Sean and Marc discuss more on the Fallout TV Show now that Sean has finished it. PC versions of PlayStation games will soon get trophies, Marc's been playing OuterWorlds and a lot more on this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX. | Fallout TV Series Impressions, Dead Space 2 Remake Shelved # 393 | 17 Apr 2024 | 01:09:45
* Apologies for the audio version coming out a little later than usual. Sean had some family matters to attend to. * This week saw the premiere of the Fallout TV Series on Amazon Prime and Marc has binged through it all, while Sean has watched the first few episodes. So the duo discusses their impressions of the series that's already received the greenlight for a second season. Also, this was a week of announcements, trailers, and lost possibilities. As the Star Wars Outlaws Story trailer released to much aplomb and wonder, but does it have the guys excited about what's to come when it releases on August 30? The Triple iii Showcase also took place and both of us have some favorite games coming out of it. Then, there's the whole debacle with EA and if there was going to be a Dead Space 2 Remake or even a new Dead Space game. EA has put an end to that not happening. Is it the best move? Plus, could we see less big-budget $70 games? EA Play goes up in price and more! | Stellar Blade Impressions & Saga Emerald Beyond Impressions # 392 | 09 Apr 2024 | 01:36:05
We are now fully into April and as we wait for the big games coming at the end of the month, there are some demos out for some of them. So, Sean has some Stellar Blade Impressions to share on this episode. Along with that, he's also played two versions of the Saga: Emerald Beyond. As well as a beloved game that was released bout a month ago in Unicorn Overlord impressions too. Marc is also just enjoying more Granblue Fantasy Relink. Some details have dropped on potential games for the June Xbox Showcase including a long-awaited Gears 6 reveal. Likewise, rumors abound that much like last year, Sony may opt to get ahead of the Summer Games Fest brouhaha and have a showcase in May. Xbox is also in the news for some others including making a games preservation team and Hellblade 2 being locked at 30 FPS. Plus, according to an annual report from Newzoo most gamers are playing old games or recurring annual franchises. Does this say anything about the state of gaming? And does this paint a grim picture for how many new players are available for recent Live-Service games? The controversial Tekken 8 Fighter Pass, the status of the Knights of the Old Republic Remake, and more! | Phil Spencer Wants an Xbox Handheld, Marvel Rivals Announced # 391 | 31 Mar 2024 | 01:20:51
After a week that saw some big releases and exciting announcements, we have a week of interesting announcements, and more layoffs, Gearbox is free from Embracer Group, and Phil Spencer has a big interview talking about Xbox. Sean and Marc discuss it all in this edition of Video Games 2 the MAX. Phil Spencer had an interview with Polygon while at the Game Developer's Conference (links further below in the description) where he speaks about all sorts of things including wanting PC storefronts like Epic Games and Itch.io on Xbox, the cost prohibition of exclusives, a potential Xbox handheld, and more! Could this be a potential lifespring for Xbox? Or is this all essentially wish-listing from Phil? Marvel Rivals was suddenly announced and seems to take a lot of its inspiration from Overwatch. With Overwatch 2 in a bad spot, could a game from a big IP like Marvel overtake it and become the Defacto hero shooter? | Final Fantasy XVI Rising Tide New Info, Larian Drops Baldur's Gate Franchise # 390 | 24 Mar 2024 | 01:37:15
A huge week in gaming with some major releases all occurring on the same day and also big gaming news with GDC and PAX East happening this week as well. Right before recording Square-Enix had their Final Fantasy XVI: Rising Tide DLC panel and they gave some new info on what we'll be doing in the DLC, an all-important release date and so much more! Sean tries to go through the gist of it, probably much to Marc's chagrin. Although the guys aren't playing any of the big games just yet, Marc did finally get to play Granblue Fantasy Relink and Sean finished the main story of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and also tried out the new Performance Mode Sharp as well. There's a ton of news including the U.S. Dept of Justice Suing Apple over Monopolistic practices which include Cloud gaming. Capcom once again being in hot water of its microtransactions, Helldivers 2 is the best-selling game of February 2024, PSVR 2 halting production amid overstock concerns, Larian dropping Baldur's Gate for something new, and much more! | More PS5 Pro Rumors, Reaching the End of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth # 389 | 19 Mar 2024 | 01:28:37
It's another week in gaming and another week of Video Games 2 the MAX as Sean and Marc are near the end of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, (actually, Marc beat it before we started recording), so the guys have some more thoughts on the game (without spoilers). And something that will help FFVII Rebirth look even better is a PlayStation 5 Pro as more rumors abound about the specs and insides of the future version of the PS5. Could 4K 60 really be a thing for consoles very soon? And will the guys think about maybe getting one? Plus, lots of announcements from Mario Day, including Super Mario Bros 2 Movie is official, Sabre Interactive is officially sold, and well, Helldivers 2 officially has sold extremely well. There are some other things to discuss too! | Getting Further in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Xbox Partner Showcase Thoughts # 388 | 18 Mar 2024 | 01:30:06
Sadly a huge loss was announced to the world late Thursday/Early Friday with the passing of the legendary Akira Toriyama. The creator of Dragon Ball undoubtedly leaves a huge legacy not just in the Manga/Anime world, but also in video games with his character art for Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger, and Blue Dragon among others. Sean is joined by Marc and The Outerhaven's SithScott as they discuss what Akira Toriyama meant to them, their origins with Dragon Ball, and more. Scott also discusses his thoughts on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth as Sean and Marc have progressed to Chapter 9 in the game, along with some other games like Zoria, Skull and Bones, and Cave of Lores. Xbox also had their Partner Preview and there was certainly a varying degree of enjoyment in that, but it did have some cool games to look forward to. Rooster Teeth shut down. Deviation Games closes. Warner Bros looks to fully move into live-service games. Yuzu quickly goes into a settlement with Nintendo over their Switch emulator, and more! | Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is Awesome! PlayStation & EA Have Layoffs # 387 | 03 Mar 2024 | 01:32:46
This week has been absolutely incredible in showing the duality of the games industry at the moment. Two giants of video games, Sony and EA both have layoffs within a day of each other, closing studios, and echoing the same refrain of needing to reassess their strategies going forward. Embracer Group entered an agreement with Sabre Interactive so they can be owned by private investors. Borderlands studio Gearbox could also be sold off, and Toys for Bob, makers of Crash Bandicoot 4 and the Spyro Reignited Trilogy enter into an agreement to go independent from Activision-Blizzard-King. Oh yeah, and around all of this business stuff was the release of a small little game called Final Fantasy VII Rebirth that so many gamers, including both Sean and Marc, have been eagerly awaiting. Sean and Marc give their thoughts on the game so far, why Queen's Blood might be the best card game, and a whole lot more. Plus, the Pokemon Company announced Pokemon Legends Z-A set in Lumiose City is coming in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, Nintendo goes into yet another lawsuit, this time against the makers of the Switch emulator Yuzu saying that it promotes piracy of its hardware and games on the platform. Other studios also have layoffs, there's uncertainty over Apple Arcade and more! | Xbox's Subtle New Shift in Strategy, PlayStation Doing More with PC # 385 | 18 Feb 2024 | 01:28:21
Randy Isbelle joins Sean and Marc on this week's big episode, as Microsoft had its business update and wound up announcing four games will be coming to other console platforms. And while they did not announce which ones they are, reports are already out there that namedrop Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, Grounded, and Pentiment as the four coming over. There's also new console hardware being worked on and even announcements coming in the fall regarding a possible mid-gen thing. Should this be enough to calm the fears? Or is this just the start of a whole new strategy for Xbox? On the other side, a recent earnings report from Sony had their president, CFO, and COO Hiroki Totoki state that no major franchise exclusives are coming in 2024, that they need to be more mindful of business when it comes to developing games, and even mentions being more aggressive about PC. Could Sony also be looking at modifying their strategy a bit? Unfortunately, layoffs and bad news also continue with Embracer Group once again leading the way in both categories and now in making terrible statements concerning these layoffs as well. Bandai Namco also admits they had to cancel games amid big losses. What does this say about where the industry is right now? And how has Nintendo seemingly been able to stay above all of it? | Xbox Games Releasing on PlayStation 5? Persona 3 Reload Impressions # 384 | 10 Feb 2024 | 01:25:20
This week has been a whirlwind of rumors, speculation, and reports centered around Microsoft's possible direction for the future of Xbox as a brand, as a console, and what that means for the gaming world in general. Gaming social media imploded so crazily that Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer had to reveal a business summit is occurring next week that will cover this. Sean and Marc discuss this possible major change to gaming, will it really be all that bad? Is it a big deal if Xbox no longer has any "true exclusives?" does this mean that it is now Game Pass or bust? What avenues does Microsoft gaming really have at this point? And is this the death of the Xbox Console? Also, Marc is near the end of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Sean has some thoughts on Persona 3 Reload and speaks generally (without spoilers) about the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth demo and some things from the State of Play. Plus, Disney invests big money into Epic Games and promises a major Fortnite partnership, Capcom asks which of their franchises you'd like to see make a return, rumors on the Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, Knuckles TV show news, and more! | PlayStation State of Play Reactions & Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth Review # 383 | 03 Feb 2024 | 01:04:46
This week, Sony graced us all with a rather lengthy PlayStation State of Play showing off the promised games such as Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, but also delivering a few surprises such as an almost 10-minute look at Death Stranding 2 among other announcements. Sean and Marc give their thoughts on the State of Play and if they are more hyped about anything that was shown than they were previously. Also, Marc has been playing quite a lot of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, as he traverses through Hawaii with Ichiban and friends exploring the beaches, the Animal Crossing-like Dondoko Island, and battling it out with the Sujimon. Sean unfortunately hasn't been able to play much, but both of them will be able to discuss Persona 3: Reload next week at least. There's also a rumor that Sony may be working on a PlayStation Vita 2 or at least a true original portable device, but that it would not be released for at least another two years. Would it be possible to even have a PlayStation 5 portable? Does this mean we will see this become an even bigger trend in gaming? Or is this just another case of PlayStation and potentially Xbox going after Nintendo a little too late? Plus, sadly, more layoffs at Embracer Group, and SEGA of America also is set to have layoffs as well. games being delisted with no warning off Steam and consoles, Square-Enix saying a Final Fantasy VI remake would take 20 years to make, info on the PDP Fortnite Festival guitar and more!
