Her physicians told her that she could not live past 50 years so Lois decided to take her health into her own hands and now at the age of 77, she looks and feels better than she did at 50.

There are so many myths and recipes that we come across when it comes to juicing. Bottom line is that there should not be any 'recipes' to follow as we should only be juicing 1 or 2 vegetables each time.

Hello listeners and welcome back to the victim to victor podcast, my name is Anu and I am your host. In this podcast episode I have Developmental Neuroscientist Dr Denise Bossarte back on my show and we will be discussing the impacts of trauma on relationships. This is Part 2 of a joint series which we will be hosting for trauma survivors and we look forward to serving.

Traumatic incidents that occur before the age of 18 can have a significant impact on relationships with oneself and others later on in life. Traumas can lead us to choose unhealthy partners and can leave us with insecurities and feelings of being undeserving of love. Trauma survivors also tend to put up with more undeserving behaviours from partners, making excuses for bad behaviours.  Setting boundaries can become a challenge.

In this talk, we will look at how trauma affects one's identity formation, including the loss of childhood, missing parts of oneself, attraction to destructive relationships, avoidance of relationships, avoidance of oneself, difficulty integrating emotions into one’s identity and emotional dysregulation.

Many survivors tend to have rigid, negative beliefs about relationships and it is common for oneself to be triggered into traumatized states - “fight, flight, or freeze” when we encounter situations that remind us of the original trauma, ongoing stressors or situations which our brain deems important for physical/emotional survival.

Attachment styles can influence how we communicate with others, and how we handle separations, arguments and intimacy. In this talk, we will discuss a few of the attachment styles as well as shame-based responses which can make us hide important parts of ourselves from our partners. We may put up a “wall” or mask our insecurities by attacking others or overcompensating.

Dr Denise Bossarte is a poet and an award-winning writer, photographer, and artist. Denise is a certified meditation facilitator and contemplative arts teacher and holds a PhD in developmental neuroscience. And she is a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Hello listeners and welcome back to the V2V podcast and in todays episode I have Kris Pedretti on my show. Kris is a brave survivor and the 10th victim of Californian murderer and rapist Joseph DeAngelo, also known as the Golden State Killer.

Life changed in an instant for Kris Pedretti when, at the age of 15, the Golden State Killer crept into her family home and brutally raped her.

He was finally caught when police teamed up with a genetic genealogist who was able to use DNA data in public genealogy websites and eventually link it back to him.

With his capture, Kris felt that for the first time, she was on the road to healing. But what she found was that the real beginning of her journey of healing wasn’t his capture. It was the act of saying out loud, “This happened to me,” that was so very freeing and started her road to recovery.

Lizbeth Meredith is a writer, speaker, and online teacher based in Alaska with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in psychology. She has worked as a domestic violence advocate and a child abuse investigator, and retired from government service two decades as a juvenile probation supervisor with at-risk teens. 

In 1994, Lizbeth Meredith’s life turned upside down. She said good-bye to her four- and six year-old daughters for a visit with their non-custodial father only to learn days later that they had been kidnapped and taken to their father's home country of Greece. 

At the age of twenty-nine, Lizbeth now faced a $100,000 problem on a $10 an hour budget. For the next two years fueled by memories of her own childhood kidnapping, Lizbeth traded in her small life for a life more public, traveling to the White House and Greece. It was the generous community of Anchorage which became Lizbeth's makeshift family, one that was replicated by a growing number of Greeks and expats overseas who helped Lizbeth navigate the turbulent path leading her back to her daughters.

In todays podcast episode, author of ‘Finding Strength through tragedy’ Ashley Michelle shares her experiences after a series of tragic events, which could have killed and which she used to gain inner wisdom and strength to be able to help and inspire others..

Ashley was sexually assaulted and a witness to a murder where her ex-boyfriend had just killed someone whom she knew, he locked the door behind her and told her that she was next. Thankfully she escaped, but, from that moment, her life has been filled with Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and anxiety.

Instead of allowing this to take over her life, she chose to talk about what had happened, but more importantly, about her healing process so that it can help others to change their lives after going through their own tough times.

This is a survivor who spent her childhood in a trailer park where her only source of food was her school meals. Her struggles led her to the most horrendous incidents where men, who were meant to protect her, took advantage of her vulnerability and survival needs. She then suffered from ongoing abuse from a sociopathic partner who took away everything that she owned. 

From trauma to triumph, she shares her captivating story with us.

It took just one person to believe in her and to give her hope that she was worthy, which transformed her life.

Self-judgement tends to hold us back though we all have untapped possibility and can reinvent ourselves at any age. The key is to make a commitment, set our intention to put things in motion.

Amanda is a best-selling author of “I Choose Me” as well as the creator of ‘The Mood Munchers’ Book Series For Children. She was nominated for the Global Woman of the Year 2020 awards with her podcast show ‘You Choose You Now’. 

With her passion, energy and enthusiasm, Amanda is courageous in sharing her own story of depression and low self-worth to reveal how she overcame her limiting beliefs and inherited family narratives to become a woman that lives in complete gratitude and alignment with her purpose. The benefits of meditation have been enjoyed by men and women for a very long time. It's no wonder that those of us who regularly meditate enjoy healthier and more fulfilling lives than those who don't. Some people try it for 10 minutes once and say it's no good. 

The key to meditation is not so much the time spent on it, but rather consistency. Every day, ten minutes is better than 20 minutes three times a week.  It can become just as much of your daily routine with a little motivation.

Ego states develop as a way to cope from traumatic events which may have occurred in childhood. When children are under repeated distress, they do not develop a healthy sense of self or ego. Instead, the ego splits off into different states that are connected to the 'fight-flight-freeze' response.

As a childhood trauma survivor myself, I found it difficult to show my emotions and to be vulnerable all throughout my life and this affected my ability to form healthy relationships as I kept reliving the past. It is only as I have become more self-aware that I no longer want my ego to keep taking me back to the past.

The shame & guilt which we hold are responsible for us re-living the traumas of the past. Lois calls them hackers and she teaches us that it’s all about identifying and releasing these hackers so that we can move on and live a fulfilling life.

Lois healed from an abusive childhood as well as chronic illnesses which she suffered at the age of 50. She is now 77 though she feels 50 again. Her secret? Ridding her life of shame and guilt as well as juicing daily with live vegetables.

In this podcast episode, I will be discussing hypnotherapy as a proven technique for the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Traumatic events leave scars on our minds which are encoded by the amygdala and stored with our other survival templates. If the tragic experience was judged by the brain to be life threatening, it triggers the amygdala to detect anything resembling the original traumatising event forcing you to continuously re-live the experience.

Even though we consciously understand that we are not in danger, we are powerless to resist the automatic emotional response that has been hard coded into our neural pathways.

Hypnotherapy is effective as it directly addresses the event(s) and their effects and allows us to access information and ‘data’ that is stored in our physical bodies, our subconscious mind, and our energetic fields. The traumatic event can be examined; the emotion surrounding the event and any negative beliefs can be released and transformed.

In this podcast episode, I will be discussing the powerful healing benefits of Reiki.  Reiki is a Japanese energy healing practice that is widely used for trauma as it can help improve physical and psychological health after just one session.  

The ‘Ki’ in Reiki  refers to energy and if it is flowing and unblocked, it is considered healthy.  Ki is the primary energy of our emotions and it flows within our physical body through pathways called ‘chakras’.  When healthy Ki is flowing freely in our bodies and our chakras are balanced, we experience wellness.

When we experience trauma, our esoteric body which constitutes our chakras and aura, can hold onto energy and if this is not processed, it can lead to mental, emotional, and physical blockages and discomfort. During Reiki, this stagnant energy is moved out of our energetic system and replaced with pure Source energy.

Trauma is not just a historical event that happened in the past, it is actually the residue from the past as it settles into your body and is located inside our own skin. 

Being traumatized is when we become afraid of our physical sensations and our breathing becomes shallow, we become uptight and frightened about what we are feeling inside.

In this podcast episode, I will discuss how yoga can be used as a powerful element in healing trauma.

Yoga helps us to slow down our breathing and reduces stress. It re-activates our self-awareness and the areas that get locked out by the trauma and which are needed in order to heal. Yoga opens us up to feeling every aspect of our body’s sensation, it is a beautiful way for us to befriend our body, including the place where the trauma of the past may have been stored.

This podcast episode follows on from my previous episode on ‘decision-making and resetting your limiting beliefs’ in which I discuss Tony Robbins ‘Dickens Process’.

Neuro-Associative Conditioning (NAC) is the process of conditioning a new habitual behaviour or response.  Whether you want to change your thoughts or your feelings or your actions, this is an effective and proven technique.

This process is so powerful and is based upon the strong emotional state that we create for the old belief/behaviour that we want to change. We also create a positive strong emotional state for the belief/behaviour that we desire and the goal is to naturally gravitate towards this based upon our emotional state.

We are all responsible for how we feel and are in total control of our emotional state and so any pattern of behaviour or emotion that is continually reinforced will eventually become conditioned and automatic.

Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) in treating Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)19 Apr 202100:13:22

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can be hard to treat and in this podcast episode, I will be sharing with you one of the most effective treatments which I used to help me to heal. 

In the 1920’s, Albert Einstein proved to us that everything (including our bodies) is comprised of energy. Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT) is a scientifically proven technique which can release any ‘blockages’ in our bodily energy and these blockages can be the source of emotional intensity and discomfort.

Research that has also shown that after 6 sessions, 86% of sufferers in one study reported a dramatic and permanent reduction of their PTSD symptoms. EFT involves a sequence of repetitive tapping on acupuncture points whilst you repeat an activating phrase, which is based on cognitive behaviour therapy. 

EFT addresses the fear associated behind the patients’ physical symptoms and is a form of ‘psychological acupressure’ to clear the emotional block and uses simple tapping techniques to input kinetic energy onto specific points on the body as you think about any negative trauma and at the same time, voice positive affirmations.

After tapping, you still have the emotion, but this emotion doesn’t own you. It’s not overwhelming. It’s just a memory. This is very similar to the outcome of EMDR.

Resetting Your Limiting Beliefs for a life of Abundance 17 Apr 202100:14:28

In this podcast episode, I will be discussing one of my favourite Neuro-linguistic techniques of all time and one which I learnt at Tony Robbins ‘Unleash the Power Within’ event. It is a decision-making technique which gives instant results and I used this to reset my limiting beliefs about myself, this technique is called ‘The Dickens Process’.

The essence of this technique is based on “Scrooge” and it shows the future that could be if he does not change his selfish ways. In this process, we use our conscious mind to visualise both paths - the path of destruction and the path to enlightenment. 

With the powerful emotion in the words that you use, it is easy to know which route you should choose and this process attaches the negative and positive feelings to both paths. 

What the process proves is that with a real emotional connection, we are more likely to succeed. I used this process to reset my beliefs about myself from feelings of unworthiness and of lacking self-esteem to those of self-love and empowerment. This process changed my life and it will change yours too.

The link between Trauma and Emotional Eating15 Apr 202100:12:40

Do you find that you tend to turn to food whenever you are feeling down? Emotional eating can be triggered by past trauma as it is a way for us to escape from and redirect any negative thought back to an area of positivity. Emotional eaters don’t tend to function well in the present as they are still living their past traumas.

Many trauma victims may rely on food to play out the role of the abuser by forcing food down their throat which imitates perpetuating harm to the body and the victim role is represented as the helpless role of receiving the abuse. This allows the victim to maintain the recurrent events of the trauma whilst also enabling themselves to dissociate, distract and then to soothe the pain through their food obsession.

Women who experience intimate partner violence are more likely to suffer from mental health issues. It is common for women to become secluded and to not want to socialise anymore as they feel they are under the control of their partner. They fear any form of contact with others in case it comes out that they are being abused, which would then lead to even more abuse and can even result in death.

Social support systems have been clinically proven to be vital in fostering resilience amongst abused women and includes social connectedness, social networking and supportive communities.

Have you ever been subject to online bullying? Maybe you have been internet trolled? The internet has become a scary place where bullies can now hide behind fake accounts to put others down. Being victim to bullying can really lower our confidence and self-esteem. Many victims have even ended their lives because they were made to feel so bad that they couldn't justify living anymore.

It's a sad world that we live in where people actually get joy by putting others down. We really need to raise our vibrations to live on a higher frequency where we empower and raise each other. Wouldn't life be so much richer this way?

In this podcast episode, I discuss the motives behind trolling and why these bullies try to make others feel as bad as they are feeling themselves. I also discuss ways to overcome these feelings of hurt and to find ways to rise above any negative remarks which may be made about you.

What if it becomes so difficult for the abused partner to carry out their daily functions as a parent as they are too fearful that their partner may snap at them at any time?

Parenting can be difficult and challenging at the best of times, but when children are exposed to and witnessing domestic abuse amongst partners, the effects can be devastating.

Children rely on parents for unconditional love, support and grounding though when being raised in an abusive household, these basic needs are not met and can severely affect a child's brain functioning, leading to mental health problems and trauma.

Ever found yourself subject to deception? Maybe you had a deceptive partner or maybe you were the one who had to lie to save somebody else from getting hurt? There are many reasons as to why people lie, it's not that telling a lie turns us into bad people, lying can also be a form of protection and something we have had to use to save ourselves from being hurt.

Honesty, on the other hand, is where you speak the truth. You are a person of integrity. You take responsibility for your feelings and actions. You are who you say you are and you act consistently amongst your friends, your family, your colleagues and strangers. Ultimately, you are true to yourself and to others.

In this podcast episode, I will discuss the reasons as to why people lie and the consequences of living a lie as opposed to loving a life of truth and integrity.

Critical people already know that criticism doesn't really serve any purpose apart from objecting negativity onto others. So why do we still do it? The answer lies in the fact that criticism is used as a tool of protection and as a form of ego defence  .

People criticise because they somehow feel devalued by a particular behaviour, an attitude or a service which they may have been provided with. It's not that they particularly disagree by a behaviour or an attitude. Critical people tend to be easily insulted and in need of an ego defence which usually stems from early childhood when they would have been criticised by those whom they were close to and this would have led to emotional detachment.

Critics will most probably be highly self-critical on themselves and so how they feel about themselves is how they view and feel about the world. In this podcast episode, I will be discussing why people are so critical about themselves and to others.

Are you somebody or do you know somebody who tends to take things too personally? What is it that makes a person so sensitive? Why do we let other peoples opinions and actions destroy our inner peace?

Wouldn't life be so much better if we just respected that people will all have their own opinions and views on life as well as each other so it really is none of our business as to what others think about us or anybody else.

Understanding the Shift From The 3D to 5D State of Consciousness20 Mar 202100:14:55

This is an episode that I have been wanting to share with you all for a while now as it is a topic which lies close to my heart having experienced the shift from 3D to 5d myself over the years. I used to think that I was an outcast, I started losing interest in what I used to have in common with my peers. 

I became disinterested in the big car, the big house, gossip and I started taking responsibility for my thoughts and actions, rather than blaming others. I started to reflect on things that I did, communicating and thinking on a deeper level. I started attracting others who lived off a higher vibration and repelling those of a lower vibration.  I was undergoing some major changes within myself and to a point in my life where peoples energies did not affect me anymore. This was my awakening.

Have you felt a change in your vibration? If so then you may be going through a shift in your state of consciousness. It’s a beautiful yet challenging process to go through as you are becoming more self-aware, spiritual and enlightened. You will be living on a soulful level, living a life of abundance, a life with no fears, guilt or regret and what a beautiful way to live. What leads to complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) and how does this impact on our well-being?18 Mar 202100:10:44

Domestic violence and childhood abuse survivors can face ongoing and challenging effects of abuse and trauma. This leads to Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which occurs when trauma is not processed properly and 'filed away' in the way that other memories are. Triggers such as sounds, smells and words can cause you to involuntarily and vividly re-experience the trauma at a later stage and when you least expect it.

Children who experience early childhood trauma, abuse or neglect are more likely to go on to develop profound and long-lasting mental health problems in adulthood, such as Complex PTSD (C-PTSD). This differs from ‘PTSD’ which is more typically associated with a single traumatic incident or set of traumatic events.

The risk of developing C-PTSD is greater if trauma or abuse involves harm or abandonment by care givers and if it is repetitive and over a prolonged period of time, and if it occurs at a vulnerable age such as early childhood or adolescence, which are the critical years required for healthy brain development.

I will explore C-PTSD in this podcast episode because the effects can be devastating, so more awareness and education needs to be raised about the impacts that this disorder can have on us and our well-being.

Each rape case that we’ve ever heard of makes us think for the victim “What an awful thing she went through” “She must be traumatised” and the discussion almost always revolves around the victim “Was she alone? What was she doing out late at night?"

While it’s only human to feel empathetic towards the victim, what we miss is to comprehend the deep-rooted causes. Less often do we sit and think why a rapist rapes or what could’ve been so triggering for him that it led to such a monstrous act? What was going on in his mind? Is it possible that he was also abused?

I will answer these questions in this podcast episode and we’l go into the mind of a rapist and what motivates them to commit such unlawful acts.

Do you have somebody in your life who is always moaning about something and they never seem to take responsibility for anything, including their own happiness? Do you know somebody who blames others for their own emotions and circumstances that they’re in? Maybe this person you know is a friend or family member—or maybe it’s you?

Complaining seems so natural to human beings that we continually engage in it without much thought. Many of us are actually addicted to complaining. 

In this podcast episode, I will discuss the complaining and blame culture in which we live and how we can free ourselves from this addiction just by tuning in and developing more love and compassion for both ourselves and for others.

By living a life which is complaint & blame free will improve our relationships and decrease stress, allowing ourselves to feel more happiness, joy, peace and success.

You may have come across narcissists during your lifetime, you may have dated one already or you may be in a relationship with one right now. Narcissists are individuals with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) who tend to be self centred, manipulative, arrogant and selfish individuals who lack empathy.   

In this podcast episode, I will discuss what types of people the narcissist is attracted to. I will give the different types and stages of NPD as well as my personal experiences, which I hope will give you a better understanding of what to look out for if you are or have been in a relationship with a narcissist.

I never knew about this disorder until I was actually dating a man with severe NPD. The abuse that I suffered from this relationship resulted in post-traumatic stress disorder and I had lost my internal glow, my spirit as well as my hair. I became severely depressed and a woman whom nobody around me even recognised.

This is a really difficult topic for me to talk about as it was one of the most difficult experiences I ever went through but it was the one experience from which I went from being a victim to a victor. I gained strength and learnt how to become resilient and empowered.

For those who are trying to get out from a confusing, toxic and unhealthy relationship with a narcissist, please do get help. Tell somebody and physically remove yourself from the relationship. You will have a much healthier, happier and positive life.  Remember the first step towards healing is awareness.

The damage caused by domestic abuse can be deeply damaging and long-lasting and those similar to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) sufferers. 

If you want the confidence to live an independent life that is free from fear, it’s important that you complete a successful healing process to repair the damage that’s been done to your sense of self-worth. Without an effective healing process, you could find it hard to move on.  I will explore the steps to healing in this podcast.

Part of the healing process after leaving any abusive relationship involves being kind to yourself. Accept that you weren’t to blame. Accept that doing things differently wouldn’t have stopped the abuse.

Something which many of us struggle with is forgiving others when they have hurt us. To not forgive has negative consequences for us and our overall health as it creates negative emotional and mental states which can cause physical illnesses and create disharmony in our energetic system. It affects how we live our life, the experiences we have (and don’t have) and the type of people we pull into our life.  We may end up bitter, resentful and negative about life and we often have an endless list of things which we are angry about or things that haven’t worked out or people who have done us wrong. 

Forgiveness comes after acceptance. You cannot reverse time, you cannot change things that have happened in the past, all you can do is accept that it did happen and see what you could learn from it.  

Forgiveness & acceptance is an inner process, something you do inside of yourself and this meditation will help you and guide you during your own forgiveness and acceptance process.
