106 Multi-Cat Households - Treating more than just the Patients

mardi 28 octobre 2025Duration 25:06

Episode 106 – Multi-Cat Households - Treating more than just the Patients

Here in the UAE, I see many multi-cat households with behavioural presentations.

These households can range from 2 to 32 (my biggest ever MCH!) cats and are hugely complex to understand, assess, evaluate and treat.

If you know anything about feline behaviour, you know that cats are socially flexible, non-socially obligate, obsessed with resources and often unable to reconcile differences or hostile relationships with other cats.

This can lead to a whole host of problems including undesirable elimination outside the litter box, inter-cat aggression and physical health manifestations of stress.

In this episode I chat through my approach to large multi-cat households and how, even if the caregivers highlight only some specific cats in the household as showing problematic behaviours, I always consider the effect that these situations have on ALL the cats in the home.

If you'd like to learn more about Feline Behaviour, then my "Learn To Speak Cat" course is an absolute must for you!

097 Risk Assessment

lundi 25 août 2025Duration 24:20

Episode 97 – Risk Assessment

Comprehensively assessing the risk of a Behaviour Case can be one of the most important things to do when you are first presented with a patient.

Whether you're a GP vet faced with a tricky situation, a Vet or Veterinary Nurse with an interest in Veterinary Behaviour Medicine, or a non-Veterinary Behaviour practitioner, it is always really good practice to perform a risk assessment and have an open conversation with the caregiver based on this risk assessment

In this episode, I tell you my top 3 risks to assess against and give you 4 specific things to evaluate when it comes to assessing risk.

Following these steps will give you so much more clarity when it comes to advising your clients on the risk – and safety aspects of their pet's behaviour.

If you're keen to understand more about Veterinary Psychopharmacology, then check out my PSYCHOACTIVE course, which will give you so much more knowledge and confidence to proceed:
