The Balance Between Our Own Happiness And Other People’s Happiness
Season 4 · Episode 5
vendredi 14 février 2025 • Duration 05:11
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A
Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to " The Balance Between Our Own Happiness And Other People’s Happiness” Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Google (Nov. 10, 2014)
🔹Question : I’m not sure if you are suggesting that appiness is sort of the state that we should ideally be seeking. But if it is, I think to the people that I know who are the happiest and they are actually the people that are most selfish. And I observe that they’re very happy because they spend, you know, all of our time and energy are limited. And they spend their time and energy on their own goals and their own interests. And they don’t really help others. And that doesn’t seem to be the ideal way of living. The ideal way of living seems to be some balance between seeking your own happiness and also seeking others’ happiness. On the other end of the spectrum, I see other people who are very selfless and help a lot of people selflessly. But actually because ey’re so neglectful their own needs they are unhappy. So it seems like we need some sort of balance, right? How would you suggest striking an appropriate balance between addressing other people’s needs increasing other people’s happiness, and our own happiness?

🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A
Ven. Pomnyun's Answer to "Worldly Life Versus InwardLife Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at Google (Nov. 10, 2014)
🔹Question : In your first answer that was a really beautiful. You talked about the importance of the how instead of the what. And I was wondering as people try to go down this path and look more inwards, how do you advise them in terms of spending their time inwards. Maybe people come to you for the monastic tradition. How do you advise people if the career or the worldly life versus more of an inward life? Do you have any advice?

🔹Question: I believe that human desires to be successful is unlimited. I understand why people around you expect so much from you. Sometimes because of this stress I feel that I'm being chased by life rather than taking for granted. I wanted to hear your opinion on how I can better manage my stress and control my mind better.

Finding Happiness from Where I Am
mardi 31 décembre 2024 • Duration 07:12
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A
Selection from a Dharma Q & A at Harvard University Sep. 20, 2017
🔹Question:
I am a third year undergraduate. This is my first year back after serving two years in the Korean military. I thought, after two years hiatus, I'd be older and wiser. I was in a situation where I didn't have any phone, I didn't have any alcohol. I was surrounded by a bunch of guys all the time. So at night, I
would always dream of coming back to school How amazing it would be. I was always unhappy because I had all these desires and yearnings not only about academia but about all the other freedom I would have outside. Now that I am
here, I get way too many emails, I have way too many assignments, I am always too stressed. It is the classic problem of grass is greener on the other side. I am really trying hard every day to think it is still better than being in the
army. It is still better than unclogging toilets and doing the dishes every day. But I feel like I am still swayed so much by this eternal struggle of finding happiness from where I am. So I was wondering if maybe I am doing something wrong, I am trying to brainwash myself thinking this is good this is
better than what I had before or if there is another way to do it.

I Have No Reason To Forgive My Friend Who Betrayed Me
Season 4 · Episode 15
lundi 16 décembre 2024 • Duration 22:04
🔹Ven Pomnyun’s Dharma Q&A
Selection from a Dharma Q&A session at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sunnyvale, California (Nov. 8, 2014)
🔹Question: As we live, we encounter problems such as love and betrayal. We encounter people that betray you like friends, business partners or even your loved ones. For me, it's very hard to forgive regardless of what happened. A lot of my friends tell me that I should for give the person regardless of what happened. I think betrayal is worse than getting love because betrayal means that you were being loved and thrown back. I tried to understand that we should forgive. But, then am I wrong? Animals don't forgive each other. Animals attack back if they were being betrayed. Am I wrong if I have no feeling, if I have no reason to forgive the person back?
