Kelly's Favorite Conversations: Owning Your Uniqueness, Guarding Your Energy and Growing in Relationships with Healing & Movement Teacher, Melissa Sgambelluri.   (The Velvet)05 Jul 202301:05:49

"Find people who have what you want and learn how they got it."

Kelly uses that tip to have a conversation with healing and movement teacher, Melissa Sgambelluri. Melissa's story of being on American Idol and getting out of toxic relationships-to finding her true self in a new career and love in a safe, loving, growth oriented relationship is intriguing to say the least. Kelly describes Melissa's energy as playful, warm, calm, peaceful, confident and creative and Melissa tells the story of how and why she got there.
Melissa explains why so many women are facing burnout.
"Sometimes the true power of the feminine is in the power of letting yourself be." Melissa talks about the messiness of healing, the power of not forcing and the beauty in owning your uniqueness.
"Everyone is out there trying to have the same body type and do the same thing, but your true power is in being uniquely you. Everyone comes here with their own gift or gifts."
Melissa reminds us that nobody actually has it figured out and encourages everyone to take some of the pressure off of ourselves. On most days (regardless of how it looks online) most people are just doing the best they can that day.  We say "I am not there yet........except 'yet' actually doesn't exist." It's all about today and the now.

Helpful dating tip: She explains the difference between a true masculine energy and a masculine man operating from a feminine energy (think bar fights and chaos).

: Kelly welcomes writer, podcaster, and entrepreneur with a passion for storytelling, Nicole Christie. Founder & CEO of Tulla (tools) Productions, and host of the Here For Me Podcast. Nicole spent many years working in communications for Microsoft and it wasn't until she had two major health crises back to back that she realized she needed a life change. Nicole speaks to the way our body processes or doesn't process emotions and how that can manifest physically. She also speaks to the chronic stress she was under working in the corporate world while trying to manage a marriage with narcissistic abuse.  Nicole and Kelly both let the listeners into the inner workings of their similar relationships and talk about how being a part of those relationships looked in their lives.

"For me it isn't about diagnosing anyone else anymore, it's about listening to my body when it's speaking to me and not trying to turn the other way. It's about how I am behaving and feeling in each situation, not the other person."
The women also talk about the recovery process from a relationship like this and often how difficult it is to actually leave.

"I kept saying to people- I just want my brain back."

The conversation is candid, but raw and real.

Kelly and Louie talk about the importance of gratitude on mental and physical health, why people who have been through hardship are often the most grateful and why real gratitude doesn't come from anything material.
"Ultimately, gratitude is a way of life.....even the hardships are activators of our potential. To look at it that way isn't easy, but it comes with practice."

Your Brain Is Just Trying To Keep You Safe (The Velvet)19 Apr 202300:30:11

Kelly is joined by her "brain therapist," certified LENS practitioner, Sheri Rowney, to talk about neurofeedback therapy and why it works. Sheri breaks down the way the wiring in the brain works and what happens to our brains when we experience something traumatic to alter that wire.

"The interesting thing about our brains is that they are literally always just trying to keep us safe. Sometimes they just go about the wrong way of doing that and it impedes our normal function."

Kelly spoke openly about how this particular therapy has helped her dramatically in the last few months after feeling like she was "sleepwalking" through life and unable to find any motivation or drive or even normal thought processes.

"I just kept saying, I just want to feel like myself again and when you told me that 95% of my brain was in Delta (sleeping state) and that you could wake it back up, it was the biggest relief I've felt in years."

Sheri describes the massive amount of patients she sees that have been deeply impacted by "Covid Brain" and talks through what is happening with that virus and our brains.
