VYS0041 | Technologies of Imagination - Vayse to Face with Bel Senlle - Show Notes

In the final episode of season 2, Hine and Buckley talk to a guest who ended up on Vayse after she appeared to Hine in a dream: Bel Senlle - artist, tarot reader, flower herbalist and creator of one of the most stylish and magical tarot decks that money can buy, the Clarity Deck. The discussion runs all the way from whether divination is reliable or deceitful, the question of whether tarot is supernatural or psychological, how Bel created the clarity deck and how she may have had some help from the other side, Bel does a reading for Vayse... and we finally try to get to the bottom of why a certain card is haunting Buckley... (Recorded 8 July 2024)

Thanks to Bel for her time and for answering our weird questions and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes - give the man a follow: @peakflow.bsky.social

We'll be back in September with more weird stuff...

*SideVayse: SVYS005 | Con-Vayse-ations Vol. II * Show Notes

Despite a case of Covid, political turmoil and relentlessly terrible weather Hine and Buckley bring their weird game for a catch-up conversation based on listener questions. The Vayse cadets consider the burning issues of these uncertain times: how do you rate and compare cryptids? (and is it fair to do that?) Can science ever fully explain the paranormal? Are hoaxes ever ok? (and which of the Vayse boys is a serial hoaxer?) and Hine describes the dream that guided him to the guest for the upcoming season 2 finale... (Recorded 4 July 2024)

This episode is inspired by questions posed to Hine and Buckley by participants in the Vayse Discord. VYS0033 | Battle-Owl vs Sci-fi Centipede - Vayse to Face with Loren Fetterman - Show Notes

In this episode artist, illustrator, esoteric free-thinker and Hine's tattoo-artist of choice, Loren Fetterman, completely blows Hine and Buckley's minds in a mushroom cloud of psychedelics, synchro-mysticism and inner astrology. Loren gives Hine and Buckley a whirlwind tour of his unique, self-styled brand of magick, detailing how he brings back and integrates life-changing ideas from this trips, how he invented a mirror point calendar system and bone watch to track his own personal symmetry, how he uses insight meditation to understand the recurring fractal cycles and patterns which form his life and wider reality and how he summoned a Battle-Owl to defeat an attacking Sci-fi Centipede formed entirely from his baby photos... (recorded 13 December 2023)

Thanks to Loren for being so generous with his time and insights and thanks, as always to Keith for impressive work on the show notes - give Keith a follow on bluesky: @peakflow.bsky.social

VYS0032 | O Buddha, Where Art Thou? - Vayse to Face with Roger Jayamanne

Season 2

mercredi 13 décembre 2023Duration 01:53:33

Bringing a much needed calming zen influence to the Vayse Institute of Over Thinking and Catastrophic Worry, Hine and Buckley welcome therapist and former Tibetan Buddhist monk, Roger Jayamanne to the podcast. Roger leads Hine and Buckley through a quest which is thousands of years and many life cycles old as they discuss his life within the tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and what it actually teaches: was the Buddha a real person? Is life just sorrow and suffering? What is the Tao?... and he divulges some of the weirder, reality-defying experiences he has had on his travels including mind reading, a monk's arm stretching to six feet long and a lama summoning a parliament of owls as a spiritual escort to Edinburgh Airport... (recorded 13 November 2023)

Thanks to Roger for putting up with our frenzied anxiety and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes.

VYS0030 | To Believe or Not to Believe - Vayse to Face with Emily Louise

Season 2

mercredi 15 novembre 2023Duration 01:12:32

VYS0030 | To Believe or Not to Believe - Vayse to Face with Emily Louise - Show Notes

Possibly the weirdest thing that Vayse could do at this point is to interview someone who doesn't believe in any of this phenomena at all, someone whose no-nonsense approach to searching for the actual facts behind well-known events in fringe history and UFOlogy has earned her Youtube channel tens of thousands of subscribers - it's British documentary maker and researcher Emily Louise.

Hine and Buckley find an unexpected amount of common ground with Emily as they discuss her journey from wide-eyed belief to pragmatic scepticism, what it is that makes human beings sometimes believe ideas that are provably untrue, which famous conspiracy theories Emily thinks probably do have truth to them and Vayse finally tackles (with the help of a hardened sceptic) the recent David Grusch revelations... (Recorded 17 August 2023)

Thanks to Emily for putting up with our weird shit and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes.

VYS0029 | If There's Something Strange In Your Neighbourhood - Vayse to Face to Face with Field Lines Cartographer and Bob Freeman: Halloween 2023

Season 2

VYS0029 | If There's Something Strange In Your Neighbourhood - Vayse to Face to Face with Field Lines Cartographer and Bob Freeman: Halloween 2023 - Show Notes

Four middle-aged men bravely join forces to confront ancient evils, spooks, spectres and ghosts - ok, so, Vayse did Ghostbusters last Halloween but instead, this year, Hine and Buckley welcome back master of the liminal soundscape, Field Lines Cartographer and the Occult Detective himself, Bob Freeman to sit around the virtual camp fire as they each tell a ghost story from their home towns.

FLC tells a tale of Warwickshire plague pits and feelings of stalking dread in the dark, Hine recounts a gruesome murder in Preston which led to bloody revenge from beyond the grave, Bob spins a classic American yarn of haunted houses in the deep, dark woods of rural Indiana and Buckley tells of the spirit of a young boy who haunts the picturesque town of Great Corby bringing those who encounter him great fortune followed by certain death.

The conversation also turns to whether ghosts are actually, really all that scary, the differences between ghost stories in the UK and the US, the nature of reality itself (of course, this is Vayse)... and digitally transported flies... (Recorded 10 October 2023)

Thanks again to Keith for the show notes and thanks to everyone for listening - please tell a friend (or benignly neutral acquaintance) and ask them to do the same!

VYS0028 | Psychic Jizz - Vayse to Face with Stephanie Quick - Show Notes

Handing on a plate to Hine and Buckley the most potently inspired episode title in Vayse history is teacher, researcher, blogger and "the Julia Child of Sex Magic", Stephanie Quick. In an intense and varied conversation Stephanie takes Vayse through her near death experience, complete with a fall through the starlit sky, disembodied consciousnesses and sky-scraper sized entities, she talks about how to start off your own run of synchronicities and the conversation weaves itself around Carlos Castaneda, Gurdjieff, how to not lose yourself in your spiritual practice or join a cult... and, speaking of cults, enter the glowing orange 16-bit pineapple... Keith's Excellent Detective Work (gods bless you, Keith) - Based on SQ’s mentions of her age now (61) and at later events, I reckon the exhibition she must have gone to was ‘Wisdom and Compassion: The Sacred Art of Tibet’, held at the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco, in 1991. There is an exhibition catalogue available. Not sure if it’s worth including, but there’s a link to it here on Abe Books

I couldn’t find anything else specific to that exhibition that wasn’t behind a pay-wall or on a subscription site, but here’s a short video trailer for that museum’s similar exhibitions:

VYS0027 | Batchelor of Dark Arts - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 2 - Show Notes

*You can find part one here: *

VYS0026 | It's a Wand-erful Life - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 1

Thanks to Doug for making it through 3 hours of Vayse interrogation and thanks as always to Keith for the show notes!

In the second part of Hine and Buckley's interview with the indefatigable Douglas Batchelor, creator and host of the luminous What Magic is This? podcast, the dark side is calling. Having explored his guiding principle of positivity and kindness in the previous episode he now explains how his thoughts, philosophies and understanding of magic play out when applied to the spookier side: Hexes, curses, love spells, necromancy, black magic and the left-hand path. Doug also answers some weird questions about ancestor veneration, synchronicity, what books are currently inspiring him and which deadly non-human-entity may be the one that eventually ends each and every one of us... (Recorded 3 August 2023)

VYS0026 | It's a Wand-erful Life - Vayse to Face with Douglas Batchelor Pt. 1 - Show Notes

Hine and Buckley are back for the first episode of season 2 and they've brought Douglas Batchelor along with them! Doug is the host and creator of the incomparable What Magic is This? - a podcast about Magic, the Occult, the Esoteric, the Paranormal, the Supernatural and the Weird and surely the single most frequently mentioned magical resource throughout the first season of Vayse. In the first part of this two-part, slightly giddy interview, the roots of Doug's magical life are revealed as he talks about how he graduated from being a disillusioned materialist teenager to a punk-rock chaos magician to a self-styled-necromantic-performative-ritual-magician with an awesome occult podcast. The conversation bounces around: from synchronicities to Bob Ross, from how to start your own magical practice to Hot Wheels skating gear, from podcasting as a work of magic to the psychic influence of the Lost Boys soundtrack... and all whilst Hine and Buckley try their best to uncover and assimilate the source of Doug's seemingly inexhaustible enthusiasm and positivity... Recorded 3 August 2023

Big thanks go to Doug for being so generous with his time and enthusiastic with sharing his knowledge - we were not expecting for this to be a double episode!!! And thanks as always to Keith for the show notes! Give Keith a follow on Twitter @peak_flow for electronic music and weird stuff.
