TOLLY FOLLY SEASON 2 EPISODE 3: HAR HAR BYOMKESH & OTHER BENGALI ADAPTATIONS
Thursday, November 5, 2020 • Duration 55:22
Season 2 of the Tolly Folly Podcast features a Bengali icon: Byomkesh Bakshi. The various adaptations of Byomkesh, starring some of the best talents of the day, span decades of not just Bengali cinema but also Hindi film and television. Rooted in a uniquely Bengali aesthetic, the Byomkesh murder mysteries are complex sociological constructs that marry pulp with genteel morality. In Episode Three, our season finale, we head to Kolkata to look at contemporary Bengali adaptations - of which there is a surfeit. Our main review is Arindam Sil's Har Har Byomkesh starring Abir Chatterjee but we also discuss a selection of other adaptations such as the one directed by Rituparno Ghosh as well as the several directed by Anjan Dutt which includes one starring Jisshu Sengupta as Byomkesh. TOLLY FOLLY S2 EP2: DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY!
Thursday, October 29, 2020 • Duration 01:10:23
Season 2 of the Tolly Folly Podcast features a Bengali icon: Byomkesh Bakshi. The various adaptations of Byomkesh, starring some of the best talents of the day, span decades of not just Bengali cinema but also Hindi film and television. Rooted in a uniquely Bengali aesthetic, the Byomkesh murder mysteries are complex sociological constructs that marry pulp with genteel morality. In Episode Two we discuss the Hindi adaptations of Byomkesh - mainly Dibakar Banerjee's Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015) starring Sushant Singh Rajput but also the TV series starring Rajit Kapoor (1993-97). Although this movie proved controversial amongst Bengalis, it is perhaps the one adaptation that comes closest to the novels' pulp roots. Anchored by excellent performances, a vibrant score, and inspired direction, DBB is perhaps this podcast's favorite Byomkesh movie. Friday, March 15, 2019 • Duration 55:35
Made in Heaven is the new Amazon series from Excel Entertainment. It’s rich people behaving badly - in a recognizably Indian way.
This episode features two interviews: one with Reema Kagti and another with co-creator Alankrita Shrivastav, where we spoke about the challenges of long form narration, the democratization of streaming platforms and how to create content when freed from the shackles of Box Office and censorship.
