Imagine if someone asked you to write with your non-dominant hand. It'd feel awkward, right? Difficult, uncomfortable and the results wouldn't be great. As I heard from 'the boy with the broken brain' (link to the podcast episode is below), this is just the feeling when we choose the wrong kind of learning or coach for us. You know what it's like. Two people can say the same thing. You ignore the first person, but the second person has impact. And I map this to other areas of our business, namely, how we shouldn't succumb to the pressure of shoulds. I felt it important to talk about since there is SO much in the tutoring world about how group classes are the only way to scale. I love my group classes, but I don't believe there's one way to do anything. Anyway, have a listen to this 2-minute soundbite, and let me know what you think! When we invest in any kind of support, whether it's a coach, a course or a mentor, we look for the return on investment - in short, we want results from what we've invested in. And if we don't get results, it not unusual to feel like we made a bad investment, like the trainer somehow let us down. Now, that could be the case, but it isn't always. A phrase I heard in a recent webinar that made me think about this was when someone said how "your return on investment is about what you create, not what your trainer delivers". I was listening to a sex therapist say how there was a large proportion of people in sexless relationships. She explored many reasons why, but one stood out for me, and it was this: People use the honeymoon phase - the first six months of a relationship - as an indication of their partner's sex drive. In this episode, I talk about how this maps to our business and how, we can't use ANY specific periods in our journeys as a template of what's to come. Memberships are a great way to create recurring revenue but of course, you can only do that if people become members. And the thing that gave me the confidence to go for it was by speaking to people. I formed the idea and floated it with existing clients. They gave me useful feedback, but it was their thumbs up that made me realise I was onto something people would want to be a part of. So, in this episode, I share 10 lessons learnt from running and growing mine! The main technology I use: Thinkific (they have a free account) This is my end-to-end solution for managing payments, enrolments and hosting the session recordings and resources. ConvertKit (they have a free account) This is my email marketing platform that I connect to Thinkific. It helps me support members during onboarding, and is what I use to send updates. I use this for my mastermind, 1:1 mentoring and tuition. Facilities like break out rooms allows for high-quality online teaching and learning. Here's a quick summary of them: 1. Be prepared for members to use your membership as they wish 2. Be open to it evolving over time 3. If it makes sense, screen people before they join 4. Be clear of the fundamental values and principles of your membership and safeguard them 5. Be clear on what your membership offers and guide people 6. Accept that you can't accommodate everyone 7.
